Inclusions

Rate this book
When Melanie Cahill turned her back on Luke Harrison seven years ago, she cut ties with him completely. Not once has she checked on what happened to him. Nor does she care. Then her incarcerated brother asks her for an unthinkable favor that puts Melanie directly back in Luke's path. She needs uncomplicated. She needs easy. Luke has never been either. Luke hasn't forgotten about Melanie. He built himself a flawless reputation in the business of selling gemstones. There's room for few imperfections in his life, including Melanie. He sees through her the second she walks through his door. She wants something from him. If only the attraction didn't get in the way. If only he could put aside his selfish agenda. Luke puts her in an impossible situation... one that promises their past won't stay buried.

Inclusions is not your typical romantic suspense story with alpha heroes and damsels in distress. Of course there is an alpha hero, and also a distressed heroine, but that's not where it ends.

The beginning is probably the best part about this book. I started the first page, and I just had to read the rest of the book then and there. Luke and Melanie meeting just amplified the effect.

“I see you still begin your sentences with lies.”

Unlike most romance stories (and trust me because I have read more than enough of them), there is a lot to learn from Inclusions. The whole story revolves around gem-hunting, about which I knew nothing about before reading this book. I also learnt quite a few things about speech therapy for kids.

And that reminds me of one of my favorite things about this book. The addition of Vivian. I am not going to give spoilers by revealing anything about Vivian, but lets just say that everybody's attitude towards her told me so much about their characters.

My only disappointment was Luke, there were so many parts where I really did not like him. But I guess it was necessary for the character development.

“Once I see the clarity, I know if I want it in my future.”

Summing it up, if you want a short read filled with romance and supense that also teaches you about diamonds, this is your book.

Note: This book has no cliffhanger, but I still suggest you read the next book in the series, because the story doesn't really end here.

This book isn't too long so I would've gotten finished with this quicker, but I have school, and the beginning didn't pick up too fast. Once it did though, I really loved it. This book is new adult, and I've never read one before, but this was good. The sex wasn't too heavy to the point where I was uncomfortable, but it had enough romance to give you the feels.

I haven't read much in the genre of contemporary like this also, but I really enjoyed the plot once it got on. Once the plot twists started to come I didn't want to put it down. This book gave me some basic knowledge in the world of the gem business and child development.

I have mixed feelings towards Luke and Mel's relationship. My reasoning for this is that I know in the end things clear up, but I feel their relationship was very hormonal with not much reasoning. I know (as much as a 16 year old can) that when you love someone you don't always have reasons for what you do and how you act, but I felt that they didn't have much reason. I've never gotten back together with someone I've had sexual relations with so I may just not understand.

Overall, I like this book. I think when I'm older I will read this again, maybe I'll get something I missed the first time. Emily Duvall does a good job at keeping up with the times and not having references that will fade in a few years so that readers in five years won't read a reference to something and only vaguely get it. I've read books where there are references to artists that were popular in 2006 and aren't at all anymore.

One last thing about the epilogue, What happens with Kendra? There's a small hole and I'd like to know, but maybe that's covered in the sequel, Cut.

Pretty averagely good :)

It's so badly written it's embarassing. Grammar, spelling, vocabulary, plot and character inconsistencies, you name it, there's at least a dozen examples. I'm really wondering about the 4 and 5 star reviews. I'm not quoting, waste of time.

I had the privilege of reading this book before it was released. Emily is a good friend of mine and so reading her books and seeing how she is developing as a writer is just amazing to me. #Inclusions is brilliant. I read this book in the space of a 13hr flight home - I was that obsessed by it! The story jumps straight in which I loved because it meant there was no time to wonder "Am I going to like this book?" The detail of the relationships is stronger than what I have seen in her pervious books and as you go through the chapters you are continuously left wondering what is going to happen! This is what got me obsessed. Emily has created something in this book which screams Trilogy to me! I really hope I'm right!

Well Done, Emily! You're just getting better and better!

I was the lucky giveaway winner for this book. This was a great read that got me hooked from the first page. I will say that I loathed Luke for a good portion of the book; That's probably the one thing that made it so hard to keep reading. Everything he did was sudden and out of nowhere, and it was hard to keep up with his constant mood-swings. Part of me wondered why Melanie even put up with him. I think I would've understood her tolerance and love for him more if I got some more insight on their past relationship. But other than that It was very well-written and really intriguing.

I received this book from a Goodreads giveaway.

I didn't want to put the book down, and that's saying a lot considering I don't normally read this genre. It's a love story with a twist of adventure and mystery. The characters are likable and interesting. A great read!

Had some issues I associate with independent publishing, but still was so good I could barely put it down when I picked it up. Full review to come on Lisa Loves Literature.

I was ecstatic when I received Inclusions and Cut in the mail through Goodreads Giveaways! This was a beautiful and honest love story. The focus on other aspects such as child development and the diamond business really allowed this story to go beyond the surface. The ending seemed fast, and the protagonist's rapid change in her emotions towards her family seemed a bit extreme. To go from completely trusting then isolation over one betrayal seemed stretched. Excited to dive into Cut!
