*****5-star Review of Mark Mulvaney Adventures: Spooky Secrets by Mary Hubbert Jones
Mark Mulvaney Adventures: Spooky Secrets is a nicely constructed build of intensity as the author skillfully introduces an engaging infusion of spirit and extraterrestrial phenomena. The story takes place in North Carolina where Mark Mulvaney spends the summer with his Papaw and Mamaw and meets some new friends. The characters realistic interactions give depth to the adventure. The story is well grounded in a fascinating and dramatic format. And don’t be a feared Ms. Jones certainly has the southern dialect down.
Mary Hubbert Jones, begins this adventure by introducing the main characters and their loved ones, but right from the start there is a sense of genuine intrigue. I was caught up in the enthusiasm for the supernatural and the scientific. The author transports her audience with details so realistic and engaging that I began craving a peach pie after reading the description of Mamaw’s preparation of one. I ended up baking one and gained 2 pounds.
Mary expertly weaves this adventure while cleverly educating the reader on the reality of Metaphysical concepts as she unravels the mysteries. There are moments that had me fumbling to turn the page quicker to see what was going to happen. The story builds toward a cliff hanger as this adventure screams for a sequel.
My hope is Mark Mulvaney Adventures: Spooky Secrets will inspire readers to delve deeper into this phenomenon as well as look for more books by this talented and prolific writer.
Wow! Such a wonderful read, and what an amazing concept and bringing together of ideas I have honestly scoffed at for many, many years. I have listened to my da talk about the thinking's of people like von Däniken and watched the shows about 'ancient aliens' with a note of disbelief; all the while I have no trouble believing in the Fae, Gods and Goddesses, and otherworldly beings. Mary has brought it all together in a wonderful, and plausible way. Though a YA book, a recommended read for all. (I definitely recommend starting at book 1-Spooky Secrets-I unfortunately did not and was kind of lost). Eager to continue with book 2, and can't wait to purchase book 3!
When the first edition of Mark Mulvaney and The Other Voices had to be revised, the opportunity to improve on the story was embraced wholeheartedly. Spooky Secrets is a shorter version of the first book, but never fear, none of Mark's story was lost. Spooky Secrets is an enjoyable read for all ages. Mark's experiences with his new acquaintances leads to mischief, mayhem and a memorable summer vacation. The Adventures are only just beginning.
