Rate this book
Talia never planned to go into space. Enlisting as a crew member for the first space ship to leave the entire galaxy was meant to be the biggest adventure of her life. Wow, did things escalate quickly! If being boarded by sinister, frog-faced aliens wasn't bad enough, now she's stuck in an escape pod with a half-naked alien and headed light years from Earth.

Stranded in a primitive place where violence is a way of life, Talia's only hope is the strange, red alien man who shared the escape pod with her. And this is before she becomes the grand prize in a sacred tournament of death, one in which her new alien lover must compete!

Karthid is a hot warrior from another solar system, covered in tribal tattoos, red skin bulging with gigantic muscles. He's the last of his proud people, and he's taken a real liking to Talia's curvy body and pretty blue eyes. How could a guy from an alien species be her fated mate?

WARNING: This book contains steamy love scenes, deadly and exciting new locations, a hunky alien with privates that'll remind you of a sex toy, and a story of passionate love between a BBW Earth woman and a HOT warrior who's out of this world.

This is the first release in a fresh sci-fi romance series. Each new book is a standalone story, featuring characters from The New Horizon space ship who find themselves stuck on a distant world. Is it possible to find love on a savage alien planet? Find out now!

*sigh* I am just not having any luck with short stories it seems lately. I liked the characters and the idea here so this could have been good...if it was developed more (ie: longer) because sooo many things made little to no sense and/or were not explained nearly enough, and if it didn't make me roll my eyes so damn much. I was actually pretty okay with it until the two main characters started declaring their love for each other after knowing each other for mere hours and screwing once in a wagon when they were being held prisoner. Then I was constantly rolling my eyes so hard I think I saw my brains a couple times.

Talia is basically a farmer with a degree on the first Earth space ship to leave the galaxy. Everything is all well and good until the ship is attacked by these aliens that I guess look like frogs show up and start attacking. The humans are exceedingly out matched and easily overwhelmed. Talia and two of her friends manage to escape after being caught and flee for their lives only to encounter another alien. This is a big, red guy that they're pretty sure isn't the frog people's ally but that doesn't mean they can trust him. Especially when after they run from him, he simply catches up, swipes Talia and takes back off in the other direction.

Karthid is the last of his kind after all of the rest of his people were slaughtered. When Talia and her friends escaped, what they did ended up also releasing other prisoners and Karthid was one of them. Not one to let this opportunity slip past, he takes his new freedom and runs. What he didn't count on was spotting a female that calls to him on every level. Too bad neither her nor her friends can understand him when he tries to warn them that they're going the wrong way. So he decides to take things into his own hands, literally, and carry this female he so desires to safety.

Talia is understandably freaked out when Karthid grabs her, but it's soon realized he did it to save them when they see the escape pods. Two are left, with two seats in each. Forcing Talia to separate from her friends and wait as Karthid fights off the frog people so they can flee. Finally they do get away, the pod knocks them out, then they wake up on an alien world. A Savage Planet if you will.

By this point Karthid knows that Talia is his true mate and Talia buys it because she feels safe with him instead of scared. Also, because he's hot. Good reasons, sure. They're soon attacked and being taken to who knows where. During said ride in a cage, they decide to have a different kind of ride with each other. Because, why not? They could be heading to their deaths after all and that is what everybody should do first. They're forced apart upon arrival. Talia off to become some "sacred" prize and Karthid to be locked up as a fighter.

See, this is where things got very eye rolly for me. I didn't understand so much of what was going on here or why. Why are prisoners given the chance to gain more honor than the ruling council? How did these people come by so much treasure that they can just give it away like this? Why in the world is this fight even a thing? And why the ever loving fuck does Talia become some sort of sacred prize to be given as a bride at the end of it all? I kid you not, she shows up there and is treated like a prisoner, then gets "cleansed" or some shit, and all of a sudden she's looked upon highly, treated like a princess, and nobody is allowed to touch her. What.Did.I.Miss?? Also, somehow during these hours apart, Karthid had gotten so deep into Talia's heart that she couldn't imagine loosing her beloved and perfect mate. Again. What.Did.I.Miss?? I just don't know what happened here that made her fall so madly in love with this guy. Was the sex that one time that good or something?

What happened at the end of this tournament of blood and violence was just so goddamn ridiculous that I couldn't help but laugh and be like 'seriously? SERIOUSLY?' And the very end was fine, or more of a whatever at that point. Needless to say I won't be continuing because I simply don't care.

Pent Up Frustration😈

Karthid😈 is a huge 💪red handsome tattooed⚓ warrior🔪🔫. He is the last of his kind because the slimy frog men🐸 destroyed all the cities on his planet. He was captured and imprisoned on their ship. He finds out there are many other prisoners of different alien species also imprisoned.

Talia💋👒 is the "farmer" on the human ship, New Horizon, she lives on, when they too are attacked by the Frog men🐸. She is captured along with the two other human crew, but they are separated.
Somehow, Talia💋👒 gets the upper hand while the three humans are in the medical bay. She grabs one of the frog's🐸 shock sticks⚡ and starts to destroy the electronic equipment, starting a smoky 🔥fire. The frogs🐸 are easily overcome by the 🚬smoke and heat and the cell doors open automatically, freeing the prisoners.
Talia💋👒 and Karthid😈🍌🌋✋🔫🔫 get the very last escape pod and she is forced to go with him. The sexual attraction is mutual, and Karthid😈🍌🌋✋🔪🔫 quickly realizes she is his fated mate.💘
The two lovers💕 get captured by another race on a distant planet and imprisoned again. Seems like they spend much of the book in chains, tied up, or in a cell.
I liked the book but it was one imprisonment after another!
However, Karthid😈🍌🌋✋🔪🔫 is quite a lover💕 and his huge Johnson🍌 has special properties that Talia💋👒 would never find in a human lover!
YEHAW! Ride em Bareback🍌, Cowgirl!🐎🐎🐎🐎

The book is a shorter read and is the first book in a series

Not Great, Even for the Genre

Alien barbarian/first contact novels are a guilty pleasure of mine, and I know not to expect too much, but if this book was any longer, it would have been a DNF.
The typos/grammar weren't as much of an issue as sentence structuring and phrasing. Some didn't make sense or didn't fit with the rest of the paragraph. The narration didn't fit either; it was third person, but with colloquial phrasing and excessive use of exclamation points - "It was the sound of people, lots and lots of people!"
The plot was a fairly typical girl meets alien, love at first sight, captured by other aliens, hero alien fights everyone and wins, and happily ever after. There were no new takes or twist and many plot points didn't make sense or seemed random and had no explanation or anything integrating them into the rest of the plot.
I might try this author again in a few years to see if her writing has gotten better, but I will not be reading the rest of this series.

Can't wait to read next one.

Talia was on a Earth ship out for checking out the galaxy. They were attached and boarded the kidnapped by these frog looking aliens. Then she was put in a cage next to other aliens that were taken prisoner too. One of the humans started a fire then released the locked cage door on all the cages. They managed to escape on the evacuation pods that the ship had. She had to be with the alien Karthid. He already had a transmitter that understands and speaks languages. He had to learn English so he tried to get her to talk so he could learn it then talk to her. He found out that Talia is his mate. When the pod lands on another foreign planet they are again taken prisoner. They make Talia into a most wanted prize in the death game Karthid has to win.. So this ends up with a happy ending after he kills every other player in that game. They finally have great sex. I like this series and now going to read Book 2.

Action packed sci fi hotness!

I absolutely LOVED this book! The story was intense and different with characters and dialogue that were so well written that it was easy to imagine them as real people having real discussions. Talia was a really strong leading character and i wonder what happens with Lauren and the other New Horizon survivors. There was so much fighting action detailed in here that I stayed engrossed in it, but when Khartid and Talia got busy? Wow. It's a really strongly written book with just a few editing glitches that did not detract from the story but just got to my ocd tendencies. Read this book! The fight scenes alone will keep you entertained on top of everything else.

Karthid doesn't need a common language to understand

Karthid doesn't need a common language to understand the simplest of truths when he first meets Talia. They are all in a bad situation. He knows where escape loss are. She is going the wrong direction. That's when he has the greatest revelation of all... He wants her to survive.

There were aspects of the Alien cultures they ended up dealing with that I wish I had understood better, but a novella means fewer pages, and not everything can be explored. This focused on our leading characters, and was lighter in the world building than I typically choose, but I really enjoyed Karthid and Talia and their journey to understand one another.

From the moment Talia is made a 'Sacred prize', everything went downhill quickly. Apparently she became a self centered numb skull. People fighting, dying and she's getting off on that. Then she's this self pitying idiot who is only concerned about a few extra pounds she's carrying around. For goodness sake zip it.
I totally lost respect for her and in no way was she worthy of the hero.
The female character Talia needs a rewrite and a few good slaps. She's a really annoying character and thankfully not someone I've met in real life.
A disappointing read overall. 2 stars for the start of a good book.

The idea was good but...

I liked the overall storyline. The idea behind the book but....it had a lot of errors and the dialogue between the H &h especially in romance scences was comical and not in a good way. No one would say things like that. It through the whole thing off for me. Could use a rewrite and would be a much better book. It got a 2 from ke because i liked the idea of the book.

Crap

There is no character development and the world building is lacklustre at best, completely missing in the worst spots. The relationship between the two main characters was ridiculous and impossible to believe since none of their reactions made sense. Don't waste your time on this if you're looking for an actual story.

Good book but,.....

Found a few type-os and the ended great but abruptly with no thought to what happens next. Oh and I was missing a whole page, on an eBook that was a little disappointing.

Karthid and Talia

Awesome Alien romance. Both taken as captives, now they must fight for survival against their captives. Can they resist the lure of each other? So fun to read. Good stuff.

I don't know what happened. The first few chapters promised an interesting read and then the entire story turned moronic, ending with the cheesiest, corniest, most eye-rolling scenario possible. Save yourself and move on to another story.

Thos was a fun book, although very unrealistic. I don't read these books for depth or intense plot lines, but more for fun, and this was a fun book and the hero was a kick-butt warrior.

Fighting for the prize

Karthid was a red alien who escapes with Talia from their captors the frog men. They land on a planet where fighting is revered.

Didn't think this would be interesting because it was free at the time. I didn't care it was a series. I hate series, but that's ok because I was only going to read this book and it was really intriguing and written well for it's genre.
