I put off writing this review because I was at a loss as to how to summarize or evaluate this book. I can sympathize with the author's attitude of rejecting the monoculture, that is, the mass culture inculcated by television and social media, but I found it hard to buy into the idea that everything produced by mass media and our social and cultural institutions is tainted. Just for starters, even though I stopped watching television at the turn of the century, I still have fond memories of Sid Caesar and I, Claudius, not to mention Saturday Night Live and Sesame Street. The author expresses many arcane opinions which I have no idea how to evaluate. I am happy to participate in the counterculture, but I am not quite at the point of endorsing the nihilism or the anarchy which the author recommends.
