Chance knew love once—a long time ago. She died when they were eighteen and the best of him died with her. Since then his work on a ranch in Montana has allowed him to keep his distance from people and from happiness. Eighteen years later, he may be ready to start living again—maybe. He’s watched all his friends find love and embark on the next stage of their lives. Part of him would like to do the same; part of him would rather cling to the past.
He’s hoping that a trip to the Oregon Coast, and a couple of weeks away from his normal life, might help him figure out how he can move forward and maybe even be happy.
It’s taken him eighteen years to get to this point, but a chance encounter on the beach will make him want to figure it all out in just two weeks.
He’s come a long way, but can he really open his heart up to happiness—and to Hope?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Chance Encounter is the first of three books in A Chance and a Hope Series. These are not standalone reads. In fact, when you get to the end of this story, you may be faced with a cliffhanger – or you may not. The choice is yours!
What do I mean? Well, when you reach the end of Chapter Twenty you’ll be left with a warm and fuzzy Happy-For-Now. Then you’ll be faced with a choice – read on, all the way up to the edge of a cliff where I’ll leave you hanging, or stop right where you are and wait for Book Two to come out on June 13 and read Chapter Twenty-One then. If you love a cliffy, you can have one. If you detest a cliffy, you don’t have to deal with it! And if you hate waiting for the next books in a trilogy, don't worry because they are coming out one month apart:
Book Two: Finding Hope releases June 13 Book Three: Give Hope a Chance releases July 11
Hi, I'm SJ. A coffee addict, lover of chocolate and drinker of good red wines. I'm a lost soul and a hopeless romantic. Reading and writing are necessary parts of who I am. Though perhaps not as necessary as coffee! I can drink coffee without writing, but I can't write without coffee.
I grew up loving romance novels, my first boyfriends were book boyfriends, but life intervened, as it tends to do, and I wandered down the paths of non fiction for many years. My life changed completely a couple of years ago and I returned to Romance to find my escape.
I write 'Sweet N Steamy' stories because to me there is enough angst and darkness in real life. My favorite romances are happy escapes with a focus on fun, friendships and happily-ever-afters, just like the ones I write.
These days I live in beautiful Montana, the last best place. If I'm not reading or writing you'll find me just down the road in the park - Yellowstone. I have deer, eagles and the occasional bear for company, and I like it that way :0)
Wow, just wow. I like many others have been waiting to read Chance's story and see if he can get his happy ending. Chance encounter is the 1st of 3 books in his story. We first meet Chance in the Remington range series so if you've already read those then you know his history. Chance lost the love of his life 18 years ago when he was 18, now 18 years on he's made a decision to keep living his life, but he didn't count on it happening so soon, enter Hope. Hope is a rich business woman/ex model who has just been cheated on by her movie star boyfriend. Neither of them is looking for anything more than a quick easy fling but emotions get in the way. This is the beginning of what looks to be a long road full of ups and downs, Will family and past history get In their way? I for one am hoping they give it a chance and spend the rest of their lives together but I guess we'll have to wait and see. Great start to Chances's series, I loved it from beginning to end, kinda wishing I didn't read on to the end as SJ McCoy gives you the option to stop but I just couldn't help myself. Now I'm counting down the next month till the second instalment comes out! Well done SJ McCoy, as always a huge fan. Xx
Eighteen years ago, Chance met the love of his life. A girl who died young and who he never got over. Eighteen years later, he's finally ready to start living again. Hope had a feeling her boyfriend was cheating on her and it all came to light as rumors and pictures hit the internet. Little did they know that their lives would come together in an Oregon town where they each took a loved one and friend to a clinic for strokes. For two weeks, they spend their time together giving each other a chance at hope. But Montana and California are miles apart and two weeks isn't long. As part of a series, SJ McCoy's readers have the option. They can end story one with a temporary HEA or they can read on for the cliffhanger. I read the cliffhanger, and I guess I'll have to wait until June to figure out what happens next. I'm not patient. In the meantime, if you haven't read the other books in this series, go back and read them.
Chance needs to find healing in his life and let go of the past. It truly sounds way easier then it really is. When he gets a two week break to help out his dad he hopes to find the closure he is looking for. Hope is in a life she is questioning everything but knows she needs to keep plugging along. When she gets news she starts to question weather or not she's been making all the best chooses or if she's been to self absorbed. Will Hope and Chance be able to get their lives put together in the two weeks away that they have, or will it all become to much? Wow this book is wow, The emotions lots of them that make you feel deep for the characters. This storyline will have you laughing crying all with in the same page. I loved getting a chance to read this book so amazing. I was super bumped out at the end because I wanted so much more. The book has two endings you can stop at chapter 20 or you can read the cliffhanger and I love that the author gives that option. I can't wait to finish this series. This book does have some strong language and adult scenes so may not be right for all ages, other then that this book is perfect keeps you drawn in through out and you find yourself having a hard time putting the book down, grab it you won't regret.
Cliffhanger Alert! But I still have to believe there is a Chance and a hope (pun intended) for HEA!
I knew before I started this book that it was part of a series featuring Chance Malone from one of SJ McCoy's "Summer Lake" series. As such, it was bound to have a cliffhanger. I HATE cliffhangers but as SJ McCoy was becoming one of my fave romance writers and I knew I would not have to wait long for the next book, I took a chance on reading it. I am very glad I did. SJ McCoy writes about having fun while falling in love. Her characters suffer through all the angst that real life lovers have the doubts and misgivings, but always seem to find their way out the other side. All the while surrounded by family and friends who with laughter and some good natured teasing support ,help each other sort out their happily ever after. So while "Chance Encounter" left me shouting at the main character like he could really hear me, I have no doubt Chance Malone will find his happily ever after someday. If you don't mind waiting for a someday, happily ever after pick up "Chance Encounter" for alight feel good love story. Oh, it has just the right amount of steamy love scenes also...enough to make you wish that Chance was real without overpowering the story.
It was both an honor and a privilege to be able to read the ARC for the first installment of Chances Story. Chance Malone worked his way into my heart whole visiting his hometown and sister in California in the "Summer Lake" series and still held my heart all the way to Paradise Valley Montana in the "Remington Ranch" series. Who doesn't love a gorgeous broody cowboy? Chance lost he's true love his high school sweetheart at the age of 18 years old. And now at 36 he still hasn't forgotten her or her memory and learned to move on and love again. Then when he decides it's time to get on with his life he meets Hope Davenport an ex model/businesswoman in Oregon of all places. From there first sight of one another sparks fly between them. Will she be able to win over a brooding cowboy. This gives you two options a HEA or a cliffhanger. I must say I hate cliffhangers but I read it because it was too tempting. Kudos to you SJ totally fangirling. Love Love Love me some ♡Chance Malone ♡
This is Chance's turn to tell his story. Eighteen years ago, when he was eighteen years old, he lost Chloe. She was the love of his life and he thought she was his forever. In all these years he has not been able to feel. Mason, his 'brother' and confidant knows his story and tries to help him. Sure he goes out with women but to him it is just physical and no emotions are involved. He decided that he just wasn't meant to find another love and feel and was destined to be alone.
Then he had to bring his father to a rehab clinic in Oregon. Hope Davenport brought her assistant and his mother to the same facility. It was the facility that was the common thread for Hope and Chance. They each now had two weeks and decided to enjoy each others company during that time. Hope is an ex-model and the name Davenport is well know in LA where she resides. Chance is a cowboy from Paradise Valley in Montana. They each knew that in two weeks they would be going their separate ways and would just live one day at a time.
But things don't always work out as planned. Chance had never felt so comfortable with a woman as he is with Hope since Chloe. In fact, he did something he had never done. He opened up to Hope and told her everything about Chloe, how she died and how he has not been able to feel since then. My heart ached for Chance. I cried for him because he knew what he wanted but didn't know how or if he could reach out and get it.
I knew going in that this book could possibly end in a cliffhanger but this author gave you a choice. You could stop reading at the end of chapter twenty and they have a what appears to be a HEA or read chapter twenty one that ends in a cliffhanger. I waited until I had all three books before I started reading as I am not patient waiting for the continuation of a story. Chances story will keep you turning the pages anxious to find out what happens next. It was a story I loved and now am on to the next one.
Chance was meant to marry his childhood sweetheart Chloe, but an argument and a fateful boat trip with another boy put an end to all that. Anger and desolation can take over when your future dies and Chance lets his anger get the better of him. This puts him on a path of destruction which takes him away from Summer Lake and lands him in Montana with the Remingtons where he finds himself welcomed into the family. Over the years his adopted brothers find their soul mates and Chance begins to make amends with his real family. After his Dad has a stroke, Chance contacts a man in Oregon he thinks can help and while Chance's Dad attends the clinic Chance has a lucky encounter with a beauty named Hope. Hope is a socialite trying to avoid the press when her movie star ex is discovered in bed with someone else. Can Hope and Chance have a liason without strings? They have two weeks to find out.
So if your a fan of the Summer Lake series then you were probably waiting and waiting to learn about Chance's story. Well this is story one of three. The question is can Chance move on from his past? Can a woman like Hope be the one to help him? If you read the series then you know that Chance doesn't open to anyone not even family really. He is away from the ranch for 2 weeks to try to figure out his life. Will 2 weeks be enough and how will Hope help? You have to read the story to find out...go ahead and start...like now! Oh and this story is alittle different. You can stop reading when you get to the end or you can go ahead and get a look into the next book but then you will be left with a cliffhanger 😩what's great about it is that you get to decide. And my decision is that after I finish this review I'm reading it! How can you not?! I know I need to know what going to happen next even if it will probably leave me with more questions and counting down the days.
This book will have you laughing a loud with lines like; I'm fine, I just needed to catch my balance and the wall offered to help.' (I have been known to say the floor looked lonely and needed a hug.) I so relate to Hope. But sad news, the drive thru tree has now fallen and is no more. Insert sad face here. (Just in case anybody plans on coming and driving through it. The area went into mourning) Ms McCoy had a nice ending, could choose from two and that was nice---no it is not a ruined surprise as she talks about it before the book begins. I am soooooo looking forward to the next book in this series. I did NOT want this book to end, I read as slow as I could but it ended anyway!
There's a Hope for Chance after all. Those who've been following S.J. McCoy met Chance a while back. We've been watching him watch from the sidelines and keep himself held back from the love and life that was blooming around him. Now he has decided that he was ready to live. Live with his lost love Chloe, who died when they were 18, while trying to live with any possible love that may come his way. And along comes Hope! She literally falls into his life and starts to show him he can care and love for someone besides Chloe. But...S.J decides to throw in a twist. A great book with wonderful possibilities.
For so long I have been waiting to find out what Chance’s story is. Now we start to find out about the hot, hunky Montana cowboy. We know he has a past, some of which we have learnt from other books. However, this can be read as a standalone as some of the details are filled in and I guess the rest will come over the next instalments. A chance meeting with Hope opens his eyes to a whole new world of possibilities, since saying goodbye to Chloe, he now, finally feels he can start to move on with his life. But is life ever that simple? A really great book, can’t wait for the next part to be released. Chance is my favourite cowboy!!
I have been so eager to read more about Chance that I read this book in one evening (Happy Birthday to me)! I enjoyed the storyline and the evolution of Chance's character, although I was frustrated by yet another character who jumped to conclusions and assumptions. Another thing that continues to frustrate me are the British euphemisms spoken by Americans throughout the Remington Ranch and Summer Lake series as well as this one. Still, I come back for more because I really enjoy the stories and have become attached to several characters. I'm looking forward to the rest of Chance and Hope's story this summer!
I love chance, I have from when I first came across in him in the other series that have him in them.. My heart goes out to him for all he has been through and all he blames himself for. This book let's us know more about him and his way of thinking about his past and what he wants in his future to a degree, finding his happy ever after. I was pulled into this book right from the start, I laughed, I cried in chapter 1 believe it or not, I may have said a few choice words at the book as well. This book is so worth reading. So worth the 5 stars I have given it. Looking toward to reading book 2.
What a great read! SJ McCoy is an automatic buy for me. I love everything she writes. She makes me feel, love, laugh, cry. Her descriptive writing allows me to picture where and what and how the character are feeling, saying and doing. I feel like a have a vested interest in Chance and Hope's happiness. These are believable, honest and likeable characters that you will find yourself rooting for. I could not read the last "cliffhanger" chapter but it was so perfect to have the option if I wanted to. Great job SJ! Looking forward to the next one. ❤️
WOW! I loved it!! This is the 1st of 3 books about Chance 's story, and if you have read SJ's other books, you hope that he gets his happy ever after. Having lost his first love 18 years ago, it's now time for him to find his soul mate. SJ has a great writing style, and I truly love her books! I can't wait for book #2 to come out... I wanna know how Chance's story will go on!!! Thank you SJ!! Great as always
SJ does not disappoint with Chance Encounter. Chance has been a secondary character in both the Summer Lake and Remington Ranch series. He now has his own story and what a story he has to tell. SJ puts such life and passion into her characters. Chance is so complex. He offered to Ben from Summer Lake "where there is life ther is Hope." Is Chance ready to trust himself and someone else? Is he willing to take a chance on hope for a fresh start? This is a another must read by SJ McCoy.
Chance Encounter was everything I anticipated! Chance is damaged and closed off, until he finds Hope! She's relatable and has her own issues, but opens Chance up! SJ never disappoints in developing characters that you immediately fall in love with! The book has everything even an optional cliffhanger! Give yourself Hope and read Chance Encounter! It makes you remember love is hard and comes along when you least expect it!
A 5* rating is not enough for this book I'd give it 10/10**. This insight into Chances past and the start of his future is compelling and I can't wait for the next two books to finish reading this awesome trilogy. I hope sjmccoy will expand the Summer Lake books so we can carry on reading more of these stories. I recommend this book and this author to anyone that likes well written and exciting books.
With every novel SJ writes I fall deeper in love with her writing. Although I found this novel a little wordy, (I may have preferred more dialogue) I loved how the plot for this first third of Chance's story unfolded and I'm now eager to get into the second part of this plot (the second novel in this series). Chance has always struck me a lonely soul. I love that his story is finally getting told.
When the lonely daughter from a wealthy family and an emotionally troubled cowboy meet a connection sparks immediately. The story that follows is a sweet but confusing love affair. Chance and Hope both need to slay the dragons of insecurity and fear. Their story is complicated and is written as a series of three books and after this first one I'm looking forward to following Hope and Chance to see if their hearts can overcome the past.
Like many others I have been waiting to read Chance's story and it was everything I hoped it would be and more. SJ McCoy is fast becoming one of my favourite authors, if you haven't already read any of her other books your really missing out, can't wait to see where the rest of Chance's story take us
I have wanted to read Chance's story since the first mention of him in the Summer Lake series. There is something so raw and honest about him and the way he processes emotions. I picked up this book and couldn't put it down until the semi-colon at the end. SJ McCoy thank you for writing such intriguing stories!
Chance Encounter by S.J. McCoy.......A beautiful heartfelt story by this amazing author. Chance's heart is broken years ago and is due for some happiness. This book is one of three books and I can't wait for the next. S.J. McCoy is one of my favorite authors, she always writes beautiful 5 star books. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
S.J. McCoy books are so good they will always deserve a five star rating. Happy to see Chance get this story told, he and Hope make a great couple. I look forward to Finding Hope and reading how there story continues. Chance has met his match in Hope. They have great chemistry and both deserve happiness in their life.
I have been looking forward to Chance's story how can you not open your heart for this man. He has found Hope and I hope he hangs on to it and her. I know the book ended with a cliffhanger but I can't wait for June 11th for the next book. You Rock SJ. Absolutely love all your books
Sweet, enjoyable, engaging, heartwarming and extremely easy to read. This was a brilliant start to Chances story and I really can't wait to dive into Finding Hope. And I would happily recommend Chance Encounter to others. Especially if your a fan of either the Remington Ranch or Summer Lake Series.
I started reading this series with the Summer Lake box set books 1-3)..... After I finished I kept readingthrough the series... Each story is its own standalone HEA, but then they ALL blend together and go SO well together. I've read through them all-(not just this series!), you will do the same!! I CANNOT wait for SJ's next book!!!
