This is a three-in-one collection by Darlene Franklin. All the stories took place in Maple Notch,Vermont. It started out in 1777 with the Revolution and the Green Mountain boys. The next story which fascinated me the most takes place in 1816 and it was the year of No Summer. Now I find historical details fascinating and am always looking up and checking the accuracy of what I read. I didn't know about the year of No Summer in 1816. You may want to look up the details yourself to find out more. The last story was in 1864. The stories were connected together by the families and had a common theme of hard work, faithfulness and love. I think you will enjoy reading this story about historical Vermont!

Not sure if it was just me but the book really did not hold my attention. I skipped a good amount of the book and just read the first and third story. It was ok and I liked the first story and the plot but it was not the greatest book.

I LOVE this book and have read it more than once. This was my first Romancing America Novella Collection I had ever read. It is FABULOUS!!! Maple Notch Brides flows beautifully from one book to the next as is goes from generation to generation. The wonderful concept of linking all of the books in this way is wonderful. Each story was unique and different. Linked by family ties and Jesus all of these stories are fabulous. Historical and refreshing. I can't wait to read more Romancing America after this, and I must recommend that you read this book. Darlene Franklin is a great writer and she leads you through adventure after adventure!

I have one song choice for this book. It is one that I have used before, and it is one of my favorite hymns that works with every story through the book: "He Leadeth Me" by The Cluster Pluckers

I enjoyed this collection of novellas set in Maple Notch, Vermont, and about 3 descendants (and their sweethearts!) of the Tuttle family. I thought it was interesting that each story was set around the time of a war (American Revolution, War of 1812, American Civil War), and how the convictions of the Tuttle men figured into their service in said wars, and of course into their personalities as well.
I think the 3rd of the 3 stories was my favourite. Clara was a woman ahead of her times, who knew that she (and others of her gender) were far stronger than many men gave them credit. She had opinions and wasn't afraid to voice them, and Daniel was the rare kind of man back then who listened and valued what she said.
I also really appreciated how each of the 6 main characters put Christ and His gospel at the heart of what they did. Love it when characters not only 'talk the talk', but 'walk the walk'.

I absolutely loved Maple Notch Brides by Darlene Franklin. The history was so interesting and much of it new to me, even though I have lived in New England all of my life. The stories were varied enough to be continuously intriguing. I loved the theme of the three generations of the same families. There was plenty of adventure, suspense, romance, patriotism, and inspiration woven into these captivating tales. I highly recommend this book.
