"Lock your doors. Hold them tight. Close your windows. Every night. Don't go out, in case he's there. Always live in total fear."
Everyone knows of Alpha Kaden, a man of twisted riddles and cryptic puzzles. His identity is one of them. His touch, another. He is feared throughout all 13 packs for his reputation of stealing young women out of their beds. And tonight he has come to steal Mara to make her a player in his wicked game.

But when Mara discovers the truth behind his sadistic mind games everything changes and she finds herself questioning what is real, and what is not. Mara always assumed her mate would be a man from her own pack. A good man. Not a sadistic, sinful Alpha named Kaden.

I saw this book on a random youtube book haul video, and it captured my attention. And I have one thing to say about it.

And now commence my annoyed rambling.

This took me back to my wattpad days when I couldn’t afford to buy many books, so I would troll the website for my next read, and they were usually werewolf realted. I was in high school and vampire/werewolf romances were the only kind of books I would read.

This had the feel of being an unedited first draft, with the characters and plot still needing a lot of development and it had an underlining juvenile vibe. All the characters seemed to have the common sense and thought process of a petulant teenager, and the whole “plot” and twist, was ridiculous. It seemed like a cheap drama point that didn’t even make any sense.

I didn’t like the characters and everything jumped all over the place, characters were mentioned and then never to be heard of again once they served their point. And that drove me mad.

Partly my fault for getting recs from people who haven’t even read the book lol.

His reputation was thing of nightmares. He was said to steal beautiful young women in the night. His story was told in warning rhymes at bedtime. ALPHA KADEN was a monster to fear. As the alpha of a brutal pack of shifters, he ruled with a firm hand, but the night he took Mara, from her Purity Pack, was the night he met his match in more ways than one.

Hidden from her with a mask and gloves, Mara had no idea what disfigurement this monster must have as he informed her she was to mate with his brother as part of his political machinations. It only took one touch to know he could never let his brother touch her. She was his.

Strong and solid writing highlights Mikida Crane’s tale of the paranormal. Well-drawn main characters, also prove out this author’s talent. For me, I have to say, there was too much telling, no huge soaring moments and no lower than an ant’s knees moments, I never hung from my fingertips, never fell into the story. I felt like an outsider looking in, not understanding “the rest of the story.” I was told this reads as a standalone, and yes, it definitely does! I think this author has supreme talent that needs to be left to run free and allow her characters to lead the adventure and put some zip into their story.

I received this copy from Midika Crane in exchange for my honest and voluntary review.

second time read. first time review.

Alpha Kaden was something guys. It helped getting to know him a bit more to realize he's not the evil asshole everyone thinks he is. Well, unless you try to touch his beloved mate - which again, this was confusing.

If someone could explain to me why Coen was such a douche canoe, that would be great. I would be forever in your debt because that guy confused the shit out me throughout this book and the first one. Speaking of, in this book you will meet Kaden and Mara. These two were a bit better and I was totally digging the whole mate vibe between them. It was just weird that he was trying to get her to marry her brother instead? Then when she realized he was her mate - the whole insta you are the most amazing guy I have eve seen happened. Now that is what I was waiting for when it comes to meeting your name.

The only character that really intrigued me in this book was X, aka Lexia. Pretty sure the next book is about her and her crazy ass mate - because these two are so freaking crazy. So I'm sure that one will be less boring. Here's to hoping.

Divergent Werewolves?!

Finished the book. And I regret getting it despite it being free.
The synopsis is way better then the book, but the synopsis is just like a commercial for a movie, sounds waaay better then it is.
The girl shifts 2 times, the time lines are horrible, half the stuff don't make sense, build up of characters? Horrible, romance thrown in and you hate the guy then suddenly love him?! I liked Kaden but Mara... annoying. And Sex? Painful to read I've read way better. It had potential but it was thrown out from the beginning, trust me I'm holding myself back at how much I disliked this book. Sorry but it wasn't written well at all.

Kaden is feared by many. Lock your doors, close your windows and be in your house before dark. These aren't urban legends. They are the ways of life for the purity pack. You don't want your daughter to be taken next. Unfortunately for Mara tonight he has come for her.

Shifters have fated mates. Your true mate isn't always who you want them to be. Mara's mate may just be your worst nightmare.

This was an interesting take on a shifter romance. It's got action, romance, mystery and some hot steamy scenes.

4 stars out of 5. This series was recommended to me via Inkitt. However, I downloaded it via kindle unlimited.

Okay....
That had a really nice start but going through the story I felt disappointed as Kaden seemed weaker without a proper character depth, whilst Mara sounded really stubborn with high expectations and little empathy or deep feelings for her mate.
It was a pity because it could be a great story..
Maybe some more editing?

Adult-themed Romance at the Middle School Level

This book was written in first person, present tense format to induce a sense of realism and prompt full character immersion for readers. It takes place in a world where werewolves are divided into packs such as Purity, Vengeance, Love, Freedom, Discipline, and so forth in a minor mimicry of how people were divided up in the Divergent's series by Veronica Roth. Midika Crane uses this categorical method to represent each pack's unique characteristics based on their naming virtue.

We start out with the quick paced introduction detailing how Purity Pack is scared of Vengeance Pack because of a boogeyman type character named Alpha Kaden, yet our main protagonist, Mara, isn't afraid of what everyone says about him. He's used to keep the pack in line, for fear they'll be kidnapped or killed at the whim of this supposedly merciless antagonist. The pack has strict laws about how they must behave and she breaks the rules. Her parents scold her, she blows it off, in comes the scary bad guy we are expecting. We learn just moments prior to her abduction about the mantra (more like a scary nursery rhyme) Purity Pack has which encourages everyone to put their safety before anyone else when it involves escaping from Alpha Kaden. Through the book this character to whom all are supposed to be afraid of is routinely disregarded by all but a girl, Milly, who came from Purity Pack, that Mara knew. The other subsidiary characters, Coen, Kace, Evan, Grayson, and such aren't afraid of 'big bad' Alpha Kaden.

I'm afraid this book also brings about the wrong message for young readers with the continual offhand remarks about punishment involving an authoritative male figure bending a girl over a bed for their pleasure. It's done as a threat, but it happens so frequently that malleable minds may begin to accept this as the way things progress in a romantic world. We barely have Mara afraid about any of it in the book. There's a line about how alpha's have limited control, which is counterproductive to the very merit of the story when we're made to believe Alphas are all powerful rulers of their respective pack. This book constantly danced along lines of wanting to be an adult read and wanting to remain young adult. I'm not precisely sure which category it hoped to be marketed in.

As far as realistic, the author has no concept of binary phrases and believable scenarios with regards to it. The three and one quarter lines of binary on Coen's Achilles' heel being briefly glanced at by Mara while he removes his sock isn't enough time for someone to memorize a large group of 0s and 1s. Much less the description of it not being overly large, but small and hardly taking up any space as a tattoo. Kaden, meant to be the scary force that drives the story, isn't properly demonstrated and before the big reveal about the true threat in the story, he's undermined constantly in ferocity by the other characters and the news anchors treating his lackluster threats to Mara on the news like he's some cute, high strung celebrity. Ms. Crane attempts to use fancy similes for added flare, yet they are a far cry from making genuine sense. She may also wish to have an editor review the book once more to remove typing errors/punctuation mistakes.

What could have been a very interesting story fleshed out within staged chapters appeared more akin to a long run-on than much else. However, it was an easy read for those who prefer a short, quick book between responsibilities.

Midika Crane's "Alpha Kaden" was sent to this reader in ARC (advanced reader copy) format in exchange for an honest review. Crane apparently began publishing this tale on the Wattpad site, where it was discovered by the new publisher. The ARC contained a few spelling, grammar and punctuation errors that hopefully will be corrected before final publication; however, far less errors than this reader has observed in stories read at the Wattpad site. The tale itself was only so-so following the unstated but overtly implied theme of good versus evil. For a shifter story, the wolves rarely shifted into werewolf form.

Characters were somewhat two dimensional, lacking any true depth of character, little to no personality - which is typically observed by various quirks and traits in characters - and very few identifying features other than certain packs seem to have certain eye and hair color and might have a certain sound to their speech, which Crane simply identifies as "exotic" or something similar. Dialogue was fairly stilited throughout, making it unbelievable; in other words, each character sounded pretty similar to the next, without a truly unique sound to the speaker. Crane also seemed to slip in and out of showing versus telling in the entire story, missing some scenes where she might have truly engaged a reader by offering sensory descriptions instead of having the character just state what it looked or felt like. This also applied to most of the setting descriptions, never truly allowing a reader to visualize where they are. The two sex scenes were fairly innocuous and juvenile as written, and didn't really help advance the plot - if left out, the story might be considered a "sweet" romance suitable for young adults. Crane also slipped into multiple points of view, likely to increase the mystery or suspense; however, not giving readers a clue whose head they are currently in, makes it a confusing read. Finally, what this reader found most troubling was that several scenes were highly familiar to her, enough that she knew what was going to happen before finishing the scene. Although, it is possible this reader stumbled across the original story on the Wattpad site at some earlier date, too.

Midika Crane's story was an okay read; nothing particularly inspiring or awesome, but a passable way to fritter away some time. If the two sex scenes were removed, the story would be suitable for teens and young adults. The ending felt rushed and not all problems mentioned by the characters were resolved by story ending. This reader will not 'not' recommend the book, but isn't fully recommending it, either.

I received a copy of this book directly from the publisher/author in exchange for an honest review.

I have mixed feelings about Alpha Kaden by Midika Crane. From the synopsis, I assumed this was going to be a very dark romance tinged with bits of insanity--which is something I don't often read, but I do find fascinating... but that isn't really what I found. In fact, let’s be clear: the synopsis is incredibly misleading.

There were definite elements of darkness and insanity to the story (and a whole lot of romance) but not in the way I expected--and I'm not sure how I feel about that. At first, the romance between Kaden and Mara was everything it promised. There was this element of darkness and insanity that made the situation between the two lovers sultry and taboo...but then part way through the book there is a twist (and not a bad one at that!) that completely changes how we readers see Alpha Kaden.

Without giving too much away, he went from being this bad-ass, devilishly charismatic man... to being, well... kind of a wimp. On the one hand, I understand why the author changed his personality mid-way through, but on the other hand, I don't think it was the best way to handle the situation. Kaden is an Alpha... just because the twist happened, doesn't mean he stops being an Alpha. Frankly, I liked him before the twist a lot better than after. Mara didn’t agree with me apparently. She went from hating this man beyond words to falling madly in love with him n the course of a page—which was annoying, to say the least.

That being said, the chemistry between the characters was steamy, and everything you want from a romance once you get past the initial shock and confusion. The world building was interesting, the characters, though maybe a bit shallow, were compelling enough to carry the story. The writing itself was easy to read and flowed well. I just wish the Alpha hadn't become such a Beta. It felt rushed and sloppy the way it was handled.

If you like paranormal romances with suspense and werewolves, you'll probably enjoy Alpha Kaden. Despite its flaws, it was entertaining and definitely worth reading, but this isn’t going to be one of those books that you re-read over and over.

Wow, this book really impressed me. It’s full of memorable and very diverse characters, which I love. I also enjoyed that the book is quite unpredictable, and I wasn’t quite sure what was going to happen. Girls are going missing from the Purity Pack around town, and no one is quite sure what is happening to them, and if it is in fact Kaden who is taking them. Of course Mara isn’t too thrilled when she is kidnapped herself, and she certainly isn’t going to be taken willingly. Kaden has something in mind for Mara, and she doesn’t seem too thrilled about it. Kaden won’t let Mara see his face, and tells her that she would only want him if she saw him, and no other man. Of course Mara isn’t very impressed by this, and can’t stand him anyway. She can’t condone the power he has over the other Packs, and the girls he has taken against their will. Now she is in the same boat, and under the control of the Vengeance Pack. However she’s not like other girls and is willing to push the limits with Kaden. This is a very well written story, and it has an edge to it that I certainly enjoyed. It was quite easy to lose myself among the pages for few hours. I’m definitely going to keep an eye out for this Authors books in the future.

This was not what I expected! I went in thinking this was going to be much darker, much more ominous but it was a pleasant surprise!

Mara is from the Purity pack, seemingly the most disliked pack there is.
She grew up with fear of Alpha Kaden being beat into her and every other child in the packs heads.
Hiding out at night, keeping her curtains closed in fear of being taken is what her parents demand but Mara's a bit of a closet wild child. Not really afraid she peers out her window when her parents aren't watching. She knows girls from her pack disappear and has hear the horror of what may be done to them, everything from being sold off to criminal pack members to being killed yet she's still curious and is drawn to take the risk of seeing him.

Alpha Kaden is not what he seems. There are horror stories of the things he's done, rumors of what he does with the young girls he steals from the beds.
But all is not as it appears and once I saw that I was hooked.
While this isn't my usual genre I'm so glad I read this, I want the entire series, I need Grayson's story and look forward to Jasper's and hopefully more on Kace.
4 stars.

This is a major throwback to wattpad days. I have read the first book years ago and the second book just reminds me how enticing this series is.

This is a story about werewolves in a typical shifter-themed setting where there is an Alpha except that their strength doesn't rely on their other half that much. Their packs are set accordingly to what they stand for (such as Vengeance, Purity, Wisdom, Power, and others).

Anyways, this story follows Mara, from the Purity pack. Typical? Not till I tell you that the girl's mate is from a notorious badass pack. The story is indeed typical but I like the unfolding of the turn of events. This is a 'craving satisfied' read. It involves some mystery to solve with a possessive male that so powerful and hot. However, there are some cringe reads on some scenes especially with Mara.

HOLY MOLY Kaden...
Kaden is an Alpha of a Vengeance Pack who are very dangerous and other packs have been told to stay away from.
Mara is from the Purity Pack and is taught a saying about staying away from the Vengeance Pack but is a little uncertain with what they say and feels like just maybe she needs to go and be taken and joined with the Vengeance Pack.
Well that wish comes true and is taken by Kaden.
Is Mara just a prisoner to Kaden or could she just be a bit more?
I really loved the way this story was written for a werewolf story and I really like the different descriptions of each pack.
I found the story flowed very easily and couldn't put the book down.

Alpha Kaden was okay-ish read. There was really nothing really special about the story. I mean I need some drama in my books. Some suspense. I don't usually mind reading ACRs with mistakes and such but the way dialogues were written, I was constantly confused about who is talking. Characters were uninteresting and then world building was off, sometimes it seemed that they were in middle ages but then there were phones and cars and stuff so apparently not.

And covers. I mean I don't read romance that often but at least covers have hot guys. Or if werewolves, hot guy wolves whereas now...I mean he just looks creepy.

The book was ok. I do however have some problems with it. One mara worked my last nerve. At the beginning I just knew she was going to be a badazz, but then she became annoying and weak. She started out strong though especially with her mate. I was hyped up, oh snap!!!! Bad couple alert. ✋ Nope then come to find out her mate is not all that badazz either. I will be reading on, just cause I have to find out what happens next. 3 stars cause it wasn't bad,bad and some of it was good even when the characters were annoying.

What a great book! One of the best most suspenseful paranormal novels I have read in a long time. It's exciting and ruthless, seductive and intriguing, dark and mysterious, and keeps you guessing all the way up to the end. I admit I wasn't sure what to think but after this I'll be checking out the whole series!! Well done to the author for her originality, sensual prose, and a story that kept me riveted from start to finish. 5 breathtaking and heart pounding stars!

I read this book as the first of the Alpha series. I had no idea there was one before it. I was intrigued and lured in by the alpha that used riddles like lullabies sung to a babe. Mind-games, hide-n-seek, riddles, rules, fear and so forth. This was a world that Mara was now going to learn more about even if it was not the path that she chose for herself or even envisioned.

This was my first read from Midika Crane and she has my attention. I would like to find more about her world of werewolves and pack life. I want to see more from the women that capture the hearts of the alpha to the various packs.

I'm sorry. This should have stayed in Wattpad.
Writing a book is much more than a good story. This author had a great story and created a really good world but it failed miserably on technique, narrative, order and sequence.
The man in the cover is gross. Old and creepy and ugly.
What did I love? Kaden. Being bad while being good has its charm. That's it.

Good werewolf books are hard to come by. Usually, the author chooses to make the books either all about the sex (which isn’t a bad thing…believe me) or all about the violence. I can count on one hand the books that I have read that actually incorporates the two and does it well. So, when I was offered the ARC for Alpha Kaden and read the blurb, I thought to myself “Eh, going to be a typical werewolf book. Either a lot of sex or a lot of violence“. I decided to accept it because there was something about the cover that called to me. I don’t know if it was Mara’s expression or if it was the way that Kaden was glowering behind her. It was like the book said, “Don’t judge me by the blurb, read me“. Let me tell you guys, I am glad that I did because all I have to say is “Wow!!”

What I liked, and what people are going to say “Whaaaaat” about is that the main characters didn’t shapeshift into their wolves very often. But that didn’t take away from their powers. They are able to smell like wolves and the Alpha males definitely came across as Alphas. Kaden’s scenes, especially in the beginning, exuded his Alphaness (is that a word….lol). It was actually refreshing to read a book where they weren’t turning into a wolf every other chapter and it made me enjoy the book even more.

This is a first for the last few books that I have read/reviewed. I absolutely loved Mara. While she was very innocent about the ways of the werewolves outside of her clan, she didn’t let that hold her back. She wasn’t afraid to stand up to Kaden when she met him and every time after that. She also wasn’t afraid to let people know what she felt. Coen, Kase, Amelia, Landon and oh, let’s not forget Kaden. She needled him without even knowing she was.

Let’s talk about Kaden. He was the epitome of the boogeyman. The Purity Clan didn’t let their girls near the windows after dark because he took them. And he definitely did play the part. But little things slipped out. He treated her differently and he was different when he was around certain people. He did give off a dark vibe throughout the book. Very dark but there was light in him too. I felt awful when he told Mara the truth about him. Actually, my exact words were “Holy sh-t!! No way” after their talk.

The romance between Kaden and Mara, at first, really didn’t jive with me. Only because she was his prisoner and I really didn’t like it when the captor and the prisoner fall in love. It always screams Stockholm Syndrome to me. There was a definite attraction but it was kept under wraps until she went to Landon and Amelia’s clan to do a very dirty mission. It was only after Kaden kisses her (she was drunk and passed out) that it is revealed what she is to him and how hard he is trying to protect her. When she realizes what he is to her….Oh. My. God. Talk about an insanely hot, hot, hot sex scene.

Like I said above, Kaden really wasn’t what he projected. But I was surprised at who was behind his reputation and the reasons that this person had for forcing Kaden to do what he did. Put it this way, I wasn’t happy when certain events happened and that person got what was coming to them. Just saying. Wasn’t sad at all.

The secondary characters made the book. While Kaden and Mara were the stars, the secondary characters were close seconds. The author was able to successfully weave these characters into the main and secondary plotlines without them taking over the book. Which I enjoyed….a lot.

The end of the book was a little sad and it left on a small cliffhanger. Which means I have to read book 3 to see what happens with Grayson and Lexie. Not that I would mind.

How many stars will I give Alpha Kaden: 4

Why: I really enjoyed reading Alpha Kaden. It was a truly original werewolf love story that kept me engrossed for the book.

Will I reread: Yes

Will I recommend to family and friends: Yes

Age range: Adult

Why: Sex, language, and violence

This book took you from thinking that this monster, this killer is the worst Alpha ever. The author has you hating him in every way possible. He steals girls from their bedrooms at night to never be found again. Who is this Alpha? It is Kaden of the Vengeance Pack. Every girl is told to not look out their window at night for he may be watching and waiting to kidnap you.
Mara is a young girl in the Purity Pack. She is curious to see who this terrible man is. She looks out her window at night and get into trouble with her Mother for it. Little does she know, he is outside her window watching. He has been watching her for a long time and now is the right time to take her. And he does.
Mara is treated with darkness and a riddle. Her capture is clocked and she wants to know what Alpha Kaden looks like. He wears leather gloves on his hands at all times, which really picks her curiosity. He doesn't do to her that he would do to the other girls he brings here. Instead she finds herself in a room that looks just like her room at home.
Mara makes friends with Coen and starts to trust him and asks him to help her escape and he does. No one ever escapes Alpha Kaden and live to tell about it. She doesn't get far when she is caught by Kaden and so back she goes. She makes another attempt a little while later when Kaden wants her to kill a baby that isn't born yet. As she does what he tells her, she seeks help from the people that she is to hurt. They help her to escaped to the Freedom Pack, where she can hide from Kaden. But what she doesn't know is that he is hot on her tail.
So Kaden gets hurt and Mara can't stand to see him that way with feeling growing by the day. Mate! She needs her Mate and she now knows who he is. Good? or Bad?
The author picks up the twists and turns as you go and you hit a point where just about every other page you find yourself saying OMG and WHAT? and NO WAY! Things take a turn that you really see coming. Kaden and Mara heat up and boy do they both change, for the good? or for the bad? But the ending, oh the ending, my mouth hit the floor with a huge WHAT?????????????
