Her Dark Viking

Rate this book
After she is captured by Viking raiders, twenty-five-year-old Mairead is left with no choice but to depend on Gunnar Freysson, the battle-hardened leader of the Norsemen, to protect her and her young children. Though he makes it clear that she is his property to do with as he pleases, Gunnar shows remarkable concern for Mairead's wellbeing, and when she risks her life in a dangerous attempt at escape he does not hesitate to strip her bare and spank her soundly. The strict punishment leaves Mairead thoroughly ashamed yet helplessly aroused, and when Gunnar takes her in his arms and claims her properly she cannot deny her body's response to his dominant lovemaking. As the days pass, Mairead realizes that Gunnar cares for her deeply, and despite her situation she finds herself falling in love with the stern, handsome warrior. But can she truly give her heart to the man who took her from her home?Publisher's Her Dark Viking is a stand-alone sequel to Her Rogue Viking. It includes spankings and sexual scenes. Ashe Barker

Until 2010, Ashe was a director of a regeneration company before deciding there had to be more to life and leaving to pursue a lifetime goal of self-employment.

Ashe has been an avid reader of erotic romance for many years—historical, contemporary, fantasy—you name it. Now, at last in control of her own time and working from her home in rural West Yorkshire, she has been able to realise her dream of writing sexy and compelling stories herself.

She draws on settings and anecdotes from her previous and current experience to lend colour, detail and realism to her plots and characters, but her stories of love, challenge, resilience and compassion are the conjurings of her own imagination. She loves to craft strong, enigmatic men and bright, sassy women to give them a hard time—in every sense of the word.

When she’s not writing, Ashe’s time is monopolised by her role as grandma to a lively toddler. She shares her writing space with a tortoise called Teefer.

Loving💘 His Celtic Slave💃💋

Scotland 1105
Viking🐺🔪 raiders stop to enter some small villages along The coast of Scotland and their leader, Gunnar🐺🍆🌋🔪, sees a woman he must have, but she is pregnant. Then he discovers she has a little boy, too.
Mairead💃💋 is twice widowed and only 25, beautiful with red hair and green eyes. Gunnar🐺🍆🌋🔪 must have her!
Gunnar🐺🍆🌋🔪 speaks no Gaelic and Mairead💃💋 speaks no Norse, but he is able to confer to her that she is now his property. The new slaves are taken back to Norway.

The book does a pretty good job of world building and describing life at that time in history, which is important to me.
Just a bunch of erotic scenes strung together with very little story doesn't interest me. I read historical romances to escape into that time in history.
The XXX scenes are part of life, but are secondary to the story.
Gunnar🐺🍆🌋🔪👋 is a Spankmeister👋, but he treats Mairead💃💋 well, and her children become his.

Love the cover! The model looks like Keanu and drew me to check out the book

Well, thank you Ms. Barker. This is a story I very much wanted that of Gunnar and Mairead following the story of Ulfric and Fiona in 'Her Rogue Viking'. It did not disappoint. The character development of Gunnar is absolutely fantastic; and, I can now only hope that the story of Brynhild and Taranc is to come. If so, I do see Gunnar's story as central to this potential Freysson trilogy.
For those who love erotic historical romance, particularly with Vikings, this book is must read. The sex, D/s, and spanking scenes are well done and within the developing story lines and historical settings and realities, not superfluous or forced at all. With it's location mostly in the Viking homeland one gets a true feeling of life in 12th century Norseland. The best part of this book is the romance, where love at first sight meets the love that grows.

I really liked the first book in this series, but I think the author managed to improve on the story with this second release. This book focuses on Mairead and Ulrich's brother Gunnar. Mairead is in the late stages of pregnancy when the viking raid occurs, yet she somehow still manages to catch the eye of Gunnar. Mairead had not had the same quality of life as Fiona, so life with Gunnar was much easier for her to accept. Gunnar was the son of a slave, so it was much easier for him to accept Mairead. That left this story with less conflict between the two MCs. Although I liked the conflict in the first book, I think I liked this simpler approach better.

Just like in the first book, the story was very well written. The characters were well developed and I connected with them almost immediately. This story could definitely be read as a standalone, but I think having read the first book in the series made it better. The author definitely has me hooked with this series.

I received an ARC of this book from Stormy Night Publications.

I was sooo hoping we would get Mairead’s story and here it is. Enjoyed reading this book. Viking’s are sexy and rock, at least in Ms. Barker’s books. A well written story and the characters all had great personalities. A hot sexy read that will have you wanting more Vikings

Now this was the last of the series and it didn’t disappoint

I love all the books I read so far very much but this last also had a lesson that in 2019 I wish that all could learn it’s possible that all men can live as one no matter the difference. Oh yes this book like all the rest was just what lady Ashe said. A page turner but sometime there are life lessons to be learned for me this was the epic ending of this series. Like I said her work is addictive. DH from New York City 3/1/2019 now back to your library selves to get another good.

Sweet and steamy

After reading the first book, I knew I had to read Gunnar and Maidread's story. I'm glad I did. Gunnar is sweet, kind, and caring. of course there are some steamy sex scenes that heat up the story.

Ms. Barker is yet another in a long, long, long list of authors whose "heroes" punish their women for very reasonably objecting to being conquered, kidnapped, and enslaved. "How dare you try to escape when I'm trying to enslave you" is pretty much how this goes.

This was good, not typical of what I normally read but I did enjoy it. I thought the relationship felt a little instalovey but, it didn't bother me too bad. Mairead tried to make the best of every situation she was put in and Gunnar knew what he wanted and took it.

3 stars (4 stars if you enjoy these authors: Kate Pearce, Jess Michaels,Ashe Barker).

You get plenty of sexual content (if that’s your main goal for reading this book, totally recommend you read on...no judgment obviously since I read it).

I found the movement of the book ‘choppy at times’ especially around the story telling overall.

It lacks the excitement and well roundness of my personal markers for a great read throughout the book. I have no problem reading authors I deem 3 stars (3.5).

This book is worth a read but didn’t really have me excited about interacting with the book where I could not put it down (skimmed through parts of the book).

There was a lack of development and sometimes interest in main characters, again still enjoyed the charterers overall.

I also enjoy secondary characters and there were a few moments in the book.

There’s enough info provided that readers MAY be interested in reading past books and the upcoming book.

There were a handful of humorous scenes but nothing that stuck out.

Read this book once and that is enough for me.

I wouldn’t cross the author out of my potential reads in the future.
