Sector 64: First Contact: A Sector 64 Prequel Novella
(Sector 64 #0.5)
by Dean M. Cole

Great prequel! This got me interested in the story right away! This is set back in time a bit to after WWII. The nukes attracted attention of beings that have been monitoring life here. When one crashes and a military guy finds her, things get crazy.

He could turn her in or help her. He decides to help. It's a short but awesome story!

Spaceship crashes always lead up to a good story. This one doesn't disappoint either. And makes a very strong case, too :-)

Apparently, this is a prequel to Sector 64 stories. Unbeknownst to me , the series was pretty successful and this was just an icing on the cake. Or, a pre-icing on the cake that was about to.... You know what? Let's move on :-)

So, should be good. Right? Especially when I saw who the narrator was!

Having zero doubts, I requested a copy immediately! And Dean Cole was amazing enough to grant my request and I quickly began listening to hypnotic voice of R.C. Bray.

Mandatory line: This book has been provided to me free of charge by the author. :-)

Main protagonist, Major Anthony Spinelli, to whom we're introduced has a ton of issues but a heart in the right place. If I were him, I'd be freaking out 200 km/h. He was a badass and did it only a few times :-)

Characters are well-developed, particularly alien ones - as much as it was possible. Oh, did I say alien ones? Guess what - aliens are coming to Earth! And, guess again - they don't want to ruin us all and take our water/air/carbon/whatever since their planet/people/whatever are dying/starving/needy/evil/whatever! That fact alone puts the plot already in top 1% of all original book plots in the history of ever, unlike this sentence :-)

I really did enjoy the story, and the narrative, especially since I learned it's the prequel to more of the same (or better?) goodness. There was also the fact that the narrator is one of my favorite guys, which made rating process a no-brainer.

Dean may not have written many books, but he's certainly on the right path. Can't wait to dive deeper into the series, which is already praised by everyone who touched it.

Pick this up on Audible [US/UK] for the price of a coffee. It may be only 2.5 hours long, but I'm sure any Sci-Fi fan will like it. 5* from me.

If you do, even better, for the main two books are bundled together and you can get them both for a single credit. It is a crime, really.

But a word of warning - They're not narrated by R.C. How good is the other guy remains to be seen.

My original Sector 64: First Contact audiobook review and many others can be found at Audiobook Reviewer.

Major Anthony Spinelli is flying high, in his bomber jet when he encounters a deadly storm that totals his plane; he manages to escape the doomed plane in midair.  Before the storm knocks him about and dumps him in the middle of the desert, he sees something...

The story takes place during Harry Truman’s presidency when technology is in its infancy and Roswell is a new mystery.  Spinelli must decide which side he’s on and do it quickly.  Earth doesn’t have much time!

A very short story that sets the stage for what promises to be a strong, well-written sci-fi story.  Dean Cole, the author packs the prequel with action, suspense and the promise of more to come.

R.C. Bray, as usual, narrates the story with a strong voice that is deep and resounding.  He moves the story forward and keeps the listener engaged.  But then Bray is an excellent performer!

This is a must listen to sci-fi enthusiasts!

There were no issues with the quality or production of this audiobook.

Wow!! So I am not entirely sure if I did this backwards or not but this was my first read or listen I should say into the Sector 64 series and I am definitely hooked. I listened to this one fast and it just came so easy and flowed so nicely. It has a superb main character that I just Loved from the start. This story visited every single place in the southwest United States that, if I could, I would visit. I also tend to read and watch a lot of conspiracy programs and this fit right in with those. Right from the start this story is action-packed and will keep you on your toes. What can I say about the performance. RC Brey is a master in the recording studio and he delivers, yet again with this story. He brings Coles story to life. The short story has everything I could've possibly wanted. Please give it a listen, I am definitely not the person to tell you if you should listen to it first before the others in the series or last. I am definitely moving on to the main stories in the Sector 64 series. I can imagine they will be just as good as this short story.

Sector 64: First Contact by Dean M. Cole

Now we know! I always wondered. Anyway, thanks to Major Anthony Spinelli, Earth still spins around its sun in the Milky Way Galaxy. I enjoyed this Prequel Novella. It is an easy and very interesting read. Of course, it helps that I am a conspiracy theorist!

“Sector 64: First Contact” is a short but intense prequel novella in the acclaimed Sector 64 series written by Dean M. Cole. The book is masterfully performed by well-known narrator R. C. Bray; who voiced The Martian and Solitude to name just a few of the hundreds of books he had voiced. Both the writing and narration comes together to create a wonderfully crafted science fiction story that in its small form-factor packs a lot of punch. I may be one of the few who have not yet listened to the Sector 64 series, however after listening to the prequel, it will be one of the next series I intend to tackle. If you enjoy fast-paced and well-written stories involving aliens, nanotechnology, or if you have already listened to the Sector 64 series, I highly recommend you pick up this book to continue the journey.

The book opens with powerful action and excitement. It quickly envelopes and shrouds you in mystery and questions of what is about to happen. Some of this may not be new to people who have already listened to the series, but for a newcomer like me, I was hooked from its start to its finish. The book includes topics involving aliens, nanotechnology, telepathy, glimpses of new and exciting worlds, and what some would call an abduction. The story left me feeling like I had just watched an X-Files episode and afterwards wanted more. I enjoyed the authors use of similes to better assist me in understanding some of the stranger technologies. I also thought there was a good balance between hard-core science and a great piece of fiction. Even if you are not a science fiction fan, I think you will enjoy this novella. However, if you do enjoy this genre of book, you will find this one is right up there with some of the better ones. There are also aspects of friendship, loss, and the desire to fulfill one’s orders.

Let me move to the narration of the book which is done by R. C. Bray. This man is a veteran when it comes to published audiobooks. At the time of this review, he has nearly two-hundred and fifty works available; and many of them are award-winning pieces. Although this piece is rather short at only 2 hours and 23 minutes, the attention to detail is what makes him a professional in his industry. The narration was clean and the narrator’s voice was rich; giving depth to the story. For some, having the same narrator for a series is important and gives a consistent feeling. Be aware that only the prequel is performed by Mr. Bray. The rest of the series is narrated by Mike Ortego. As this is a prequel of the series, I do not think it will be an issue for most, but I did want to call it out in this review.

In all of my reviews I include a section for parents and younger readers alerting them to books containing anything that may be of concern to this age group. I do have to mention that this book includes some very light use of vulgar language, but apart from that, the book lacks any other potentially objectionable content. This is only relating to the prequel and is not speaking to the complete Sector 64 series.

To summarize, the book was a good toe-dip into a much bigger series called “Sector 64”. If you are like me, the prequel is enough to whet your appetite for the remaining books in the series. The author even has a boxset available on audible for those who want to pick up the rest in the series and have over 22 hours of audio to listen too. This is a recommended read.

Most Intriguing Series, A New Take on a First Contact Scenario

I read the description of the first book in the series, Ambush, and was intrigued enough to take it for a spin. Certainly glad that I did. I was hooked in the very first pages and read through all three books in two days. Now I have Deal with waiting g for the next book to come out. I hope Dean Cole remains in good health and in fine writing nick.

Ever since i found my first ST book, Starman Jones, I have devoured thousand of books in the genre. I am so pleased over the years that the quality of plots, characters and overall story telling have gotten better and better. Dean Cole is a fine example of that kind of growth. I wish him continued success in his writing so we can continue to enjoy them.

Started reading and then acquired the AUDIO and enjoyed some of both--reads easily and smoothly and excellent narration enhances enjoyment and thrusts you into the action.

This is a new spin on Area 51, Groom Lake, and Roswell, describing the "incident" from the pilot's perspective, and setting us up for a series to come. Oh, don't worry, there are no cliffhangers per se ("What will become of us" is kind of a daily thought given the ultra urgency of the newscasters reporting anything from heavy traffic to apocalypse, so that doesn't count!) and the immediate events are concluded tidily. A nice little tale.

I voraciously read almost anything involving WWII because it was such a rich, interesting point in history. Take that setting and add in aliens?! I was already sold. Then throw in R.C. Bray, who is an amazing, veteran narrator, and this is a recipe for a fantastic book. I wasn't let down. The experience, though short, was enjoyable all the way through.

This story takes off from the beginning and doesn't slow down. I haven't read the series that this is a prequel to, but you can believe that I will now. I am completely sucked into this world, and I need to know what happens next.

I received a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Definitely a Prequel and Very Short

It's incomplete. Fascinating, but not much here. It seems Tony's vocabulary consists of "Oh, s---" and "S---" exclusively. I exaggerate, but not much. The ending clearly points to the next book. The science is pretty well explained. I would probably enjoy a full novel but I could wish for more creative dialogue. I know the story was more about the buildup to the apocalyptic books to follow than about dialogue. That building was done very well.

A very good prequel to the Sector 64 stories. Dean M Cole brings current conspiracy theories about aliens and weaves them in with historic events to create a very entertaining story about America’s first contact with an alien race, that may or may not be humanity’s ancestors.
A must read for Sector 64 fans.

Sector 64: First Contact

Wow! I have spent all my life being fascinated by the space race and 'is there life out there'. This is a fantastic novel. The Roswell incident has been hashed and rehashed over the years and still the matter is debated.
This book kept me turning pages long into the night. I loved it.

Well I only wish you could have been longer

Loads of fun. Well thought-out reimagining of Area 51 and a possible visit to Earth. The story has a lot of potential and I'm looking forward to where it leads. Our lead character is a troubled hero who is thrust into a role that he wasn't prepared for. I'm looking forward to finding out how he does in the future

I read the first book and enjoyed it before I was aware of the Prequel. I was already hooked on the story and I recommend that you read this as well. However the earthbound characters in the Prequel do not appear in Ambush. Not to worry you'll love the characters in both. Now I'm starting to read Retribution, Book 2, that I'm sure you'll want to read as well.

I read this before book 1 ambush (it is a prequel), but you can read it on its own or even after book 1.

Like book 1, the storyline is predictable and not unique in any way, but the character development by the author saves it. I almost found that I missed the alien charactor by the end of this short story.

Great (new to me) series! I'm a bit disappointed that I'm starting this so late. it's been sitting in my library for a while. I'm super excited to see where this series goes. Aliens from another world that look like us? Not aliens, but ancestors if they are telling the truth. Are they truly peaceful? And of course, Mr Bray is always fantastic in his narration!

Excellent other worldly.

Of course we human are not alone. Of course it's time we met the numerous aliens. So glad they were friendly. Couldn't put it down. Great down to earth, but science-fiction story.

This is the story of what "really" happened at Roswell. As the description suggests, it is a novella and the prequel to a series. I have to admit to being left a bit unsatisfied as the story is left hanging. It was well written and edited but little more than a teaser.

It was ok

Chose a rating of 4 stars because it has potential. Since its a prequel, I'll just have to read the next book. The drawing of the characters was not as deep as I would have liked

Intriguing

A different view on the Roswell alien spacecraft, this was a prequel but the first book in the series for me. I enjoyed the novella, the characters were interesting and the story fast-paced. I find novellas always too short but it makes me want to read more
