It's 1998 and Tabs is partying hard at University. With an overactive imagination and an obsession with a new paranormal TV show, she becomes a “Techno Pagan”. She isn't really sure what that means, but magic at her fingertips would be seriously cool. And so on the eve of Halloween, Tabs conjures a spell to charm Mr. Right her way. He doesn't appear.
Meanwhile, in another 1998, Bryce Pendragon is contemplating the loss of his parents. Sat in the solitude of his Father's Study he notices an unusual disturbance in the sunlight by the door.
What has Tabs set in motion with her spell? And is Bryce Mr. Right? Because if “love conquers all”, then time and space should be easy.
This was a cute, sweet romance that crosses space and time. The description promised nineties and from the very first line, I was transported back to my own college years (and now I'm wondering if I'm ever going to get Tubthumping out of my head again). The story flows well, but we seem to get a whole lot more of Bryce than Tabs. The only real issue I have is that the end seems a bit rushed. I'd like to have another scene in there to see how their conversation over tea went
The short story spans a couple of years. There was a typo on one of the dates that confused me briefly (it was written as 2001 in one scene and 2000 in the other) and I would have liked more towards the end, but overall a very engaging and well-written story. If you like short stories, give this one a go.
This was a sweet story with a cool premise and lot of good description. I know it's a short, but would've enjoyed getting to know the characters a little more deeply, especially toward the end.
