Brand is the youngest bodyguard to ever protect the king, but he may never grow any older. A horde of mankind’s ancient enemies lays siege to Cardoroth city. During the day, the clang of blades, the mad shrieks of the foe and the hiss of swift-flighted arrows cuts the air. At night, the sorcerous chanting begins.
Brand ignores it all. His one duty is to guard the king. But the realm teeters on the brink of destruction and the king knows that his bodyguard, touched by fate in ways that neither of them understand, is the only man with the skills to save it. He asks Brand to undertake a last-chance quest to save all that they love.
Brand accepts the mission. Soon, enemies track him across strange lands, beasts of foul magic stalk him and an emissary of evil hunts him. Amid it all, he meets a beautiful but deadly girl who aids him – for reasons of her own. She knows secrets that she will not tell, but she does reveal that more is at play than just the fate of kings and realms. Ancient forces, drenched in long-forgotten blood, seek to plunge the world into the dark. The odds pile against him, but not for nothing was he the king’s last hope.
This boxed set contains the entire Durlindrath trilogy.
I am a man born in the wrong era. My heart yearns for faraway places and even further afield times. Tolkien had me at the beginning of The Hobbit when he said, ". . . one morning long ago in the quiet of the world . . ."
I love to read high fantasy and epic fantasy novels, and I have a passion to write, to weave a story with words that draws the reader into another world.
I didn’t finish this book, while I like the storyline there was just too many extra words, descriptions, etc. it took me away from the story and frustrated me
Thanks again Robert Ryan for carrying me far away, into another grand adventure!!! I'm glad you were born into our time, especially with an old soul and the ability to tell such imaginative tales!!!
I really liked the Lindraith trilogy and, to an extent, this revisits some of stories therein. I have seen comments to the effect that these are collection of recycled smaller stories - I can’t agree there are similarities, true. However in this type of Sword and Sorcery, perhaps all types, there are a limited number of scenarios and it’s how they are told.
I found myself caught up in the story and surely that is what matters most?
I love these books and I am hopeful more people will read them. I am so happy I stumbled on to this author! These books are full of light verses darkness and the heroes are amazing. The villians are truly creepy andl ruthless lovers of power. If you love ran and heroic fantasy, you will love this author!
By itself a decent story, but venturing into the tombs of the letharn in this and 2 other trilogies is repetitive and way overused. Why doesn’t Aranloth just set up shop in the tombs since he always has to go there for some reason
