Break in the Storm

Rate this book
Ex-Special Forces bodyguard Quinn Kavanaugh disdains everything “industry” when it comes to Hollywood. Despite this, she takes a job protecting up-and-coming singer, Xandy Blue. Little does she know the diminutive lavender-eyed singer is far from the drama queen type that Quinn can’t stand.

Xandy has had a tragic life and is haunted by the past events that turned her life upside down. In public, she hides it all behind a bright smile and a beautiful voice. But away from the limelight she’s broken, until she meets Quinn.

When the tragedies of Xandy’s young life catch up to her, will she take Quinn down with her? Or will Quinn save the day to bring a Break in the Storm?

Hooked!

I am totally addicted to WeHo. Each installment has an excellent plotline and with great characters. Quinn is a woman you can easily fall for. To say I loved this series is an understatement. Read it and you know why I love this series so much.

I liked this book just not as much as the first one. Even in the previous book and this one the attraction between the MCs is almost immediately that it barely gives you time to acknowledge it, nonetheless in this one was more difficult to believe.

In this story we meet Quinn Kavanaugh and Xandy Blue. Quinn is a wild woman, nothing stops her, she’s family oriented, loyal and the tough girl everyone wants on her side. Xandy Blue is scared; she has been through so much that she has been doubting herself all the way.

Quinn is Xandy’s savior. Although Xandy has never been in a lesbian relationship ever, she professes her interest in Quinn soon and Quinn’s response is very accurate, that she, Xandy is under a special situation, maybe not impartial at all because she feels that Quinn is like her savior. Not even 10 pages after, without any explanation/thoughts, Quinn changes her mind. Too much for me.

Besides that, the kind of information that Quinn shares with Sarah (Xandy’s aunt who hated both) so sensitive, private information, it was a no-no situation for me. Nobody is allowed to share so much intimate stuff about you.

Generally speaking, it was good. There’s a lot of drama, not between the MCs but what surrounded them.

Great adventure

When I first started reading this book, I was disappointed that Sklyer and Devin weren't in it. But Quinn and Xandy caught my attention very fast. I love how there is no beating around the Bush. These women are attracted to each and the relationship bloom just that. I loved Quinn and Xandy's trip to Ireland. Great story. Can't wait to read the next one. I definitely recommend this book.

Break in the Storm is the third book in the WeHo series. This story is engaging but not nearly as much for me as the first two.

Former Irish Army Ranger, Quinn Kavanaugh, is hired as a bodyguard by big deal music agent BJ, to watch over new sensation, Xandy Blue. Xandy is being stalked by ex’s as well as obsessive fans. There’s a lot of danger around and Quinn is always nearby as the knight in shining armor. She is badass extraordinaire and kicks major behind.

This one felt more like a traditional star/bodyguard romance and I missed the heavy military/first responder focus that zero and one had. Also, I wasn’t feeling the Xandy character as Quinn’s gf. Too young and troubled on so many levels. I still thought the book was worth reading and liked that Devin and Skyler peaked into the storyline. Whew, only 10 or 12 more books to go now.

Slightly disappointed in this one, having enjoyed the two previous books in the series. Quinn was just too over the top for me and seemed to get involved too quickly with a seemly immature young woman. And, please, why is everyone smoking???!!! Will continue with the series regardless.

Quinn and Xandy are the epitome of what I consider the perfect couple. Yes, they had their flaws, but they were not only meant for each other, they were aesthetically pleasing to my mind's eye. Quinn, the perfect butch with an edge; tall, strong body, intelligent, Harley rider, blue Mustang, kind, tender, sexy-as-hell. I could go on. Then you have small, timid, shy little Xandy, who slowly grew into her own skin and blossomed with confidence with the help and love from Quinn. I fell in love with them the moment they first met inside the recording studio where Xandy was laying down a new track for her album. Their professional relationship quickly became friendly the more Xandy's life was threatened by an old hired bodyguard who had been relieved of his duties after crossing the line with the beautiful singer. Quinn stepped in and stepped up in protecting Xandy, and boy, did we learn of her protective side. "White Knight" I believe she was called. This is my favourite WeHo story in the whole series and I can't help my smile whenever Quinn or Xandy is mentioned in any of the stories. I'm hoping, maybe, we'll see them further their relationship in the future.

Got to page 64 and I couldn't take it anymore. It's like delving into the fantasies of a teenager. Cliche after cliche. Beating Xandy's curiosity to death and the whole Irish thing was too much. Xandy was immature and Quinn was just annoying. I don't know how so many people loved this book...

I really enjoyed getting involved in this story. Sweet romance with some angst thrown in for good measure. The typos and grammatical errors drove me batty.

Two weeks in and they were already deeply connected, but it did make sense since they started the whole thing with a sort of U-Haul hahaha. Don't get me wrong, from the very beginning I was rooting for them, it just worked, you know. I really liked their story, it was sweet, funny and even heartbreaking in some moments. And their friends were just the champions!

But let me say that it felt a tad unbalanced. I mean, Quinn has her shit together and is a bad-ass, sort of almighty, honourable MC (I LOVE these kind of characters), in juxtaposition to her we get Xandy who is still struggling to find her foot in this world after being dealt some nasty hands by the universe. So I know that a relationship isn't made of "tit-for-tat" and she offers love, which is grand and a bit foreign to Quinn considering her relationship history, but with everything that happens here I don't think we got to see it much even though we know it's there so that's why it felt unbalanced IMHO. I hope we get to see more of them in the future.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and it was not just because there was lots of action, We have our heroine Quinn who is 5"8 special forces with the skills and the body to match, Irish complete with an accent so Irish I could hear it in my head every time her dialogue came out and she is proper old fashioned gallant knight in shinning armour with the annoying flaw of getting injured beaten up etc but I can live with that. The other heroine is Xandy who is the person Quinn is supposed to be bodyguarding is finding her own way in the world and we see her evolve from a scared vulnerable character into one who grows into her own. I especially liked the fact that the book did not paint all men as evil which can sometimes happen in books like these. There were a few cringy Mary Sue moments but all in all a thoroughly enjoyable read with a nice if abrupt HEA. If you like action and badass tattoed heroines with cool haircuts this is the one for you.

Now that I've found this series (WeHo) I continue to enjoy getting to know new characters and liked that Devin and Skyler made an appearance. Looking forward to the next book. I just realized there are like 16 in this series, so I have a lot of reading to look forward to. In this book, Quinn was the saving grace they all needed and loved the redemtion Sandra has. Wish that a tragedy did not have to occur for her to realize that she can't judge anyone by their appearance and although her religious believes, I loved that she was able to overcome the homophobia it teaches. Loves Xandy's character be it tragic at times but liked that it brought forth the issue with depression and what it can make one do. All in all, good book to read.

Although Quinn Kavanaugh was almost bigger than life in her talk and the way she carried herself, what a likeable character. She fit the butch stereotype in looks, dress, and need to protect. I also liked and appreciated her connection with family. It is a bonus when there is no drama about family and sexuality. Xandy Blue, is soft spoken and lonely. She grew in various ways throughout the read but I wanted to see her grow more in strength of character. I know she has much to deal with and process, so maybe as time goes on, she will hold her shoulders high and be the person I know she wants and can be.

Another light read - I sped through this one surprisingly fast. Not a tremendous amount of depth to the characters of the plot. Quinn reminded me a lot of Skyler - and lo and behold, when the two car crazy, strong and silent, smoking butches meet they hit it off. This could be read as standalone, but the characters from the first book (Devin and Skyler) pop in - I think by the time we reach book 14, its going to be a very crowded cast of characters wandering in and out of the plot.

This time around, Quinn Kavanaugh, former Irish Army Ranger and current bodyguard , is hired to look after Xandy (I'm sorry, but that sounds like a porn name), a shy and naive woman from the Midwest who is poised to be a chart breaking pop singer. There's a lot in the story that left me frowning - the author sort of speeds through things and skims through the different plot points without really digging into them and having things resolved pretty easily .

Quinn is Xandy's bodyguard and Xandy's curiosity about Quinn's jewelry, tattoos and Irish heritage slowly weave into and melt her chilly exterior. Quinn genuinely cares for Xandy's physical and mental welfare. So this story follows Xandy's blossoming realization that no one cares for her, protects her as Quinn and the conversations between them are telling. Quinn's character is strong, gentle, protective and totally bad ass. An enjoying read and the underlying stalking plot line was exciting as well. I read it in one sitting. Couldn't put it down.

Butch and Femme love

Kinda tired as a bodyguard for XANDY a singer. Quinn is definitely a butch with masculine tendencies and it’s very tough but he has a heart of gold.XANDY is a singer and needs protection. The characters are great and very different but shows great emotion and drama. The setting is in Los Angeles but also in Belfast Ireland. You learn about the great strength of character that both of them have and how Quinn can overcoming even the most derogatory remarks about her being gay and her tattoos.

This is actually the third book in the WeHo series. In this installment Hancock introduces us to two new characters. As always they are develop and complex. Hancock is a master of creating realistic characters. The theme of the work required for relationships is present as always. It is nice to read lesbian books that are not all about sex. This series is a must read for anyone who enjoyed The 'L' Word.

Really good story

This is the third book I have read by this author this week. I just can't put her books down. I thoroughly enjoy the characters in all of them and was tickled to find a cameo appearance in this one by Devin and Skylar from WHEN ANGELS FALL. My only criticism is the editing mistakes.

🌈😱TREMULOUS😱🌈
What a thrilling adventure! Though the story quickly resolves the emotional aspect of Xandy's sex life . Their is so much more that Quinn gallantly endears herself in to help Xandy grow mentally and physically ! I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who asked me for my opinion !😍
Definitely a five star 🌟rating!😍

Fabulous book

I loved this book on how Quinn was protecting someone that worked in an industry that she didn't like. Also on how they fell in love and how Xandy finally was with the only family she has left. I also liked that the author brought in some on the characters from the last book.

Weho

I enjoy this series having stumbled upon it in the middle. Each book however seems a standalone novel. The characters compile a unique set of people with ideals that I personally identify. I can only hope the future will see these ideals in commonplace. Great writing too, thank you.

Unusual story

The storyline was consistent and well written. Quinn and Xandy were great characters and well defined. I loved the love story and the fact that Quinn truly tried to discourage Xandy. The inclusion of the family tragedy being repeated in Xandys history and the action Quinn took in the families horrific accident added to the story.

Enjoyed this book but ......

The story was almost too predictable. I greatly enjoyed the character Quinn, but was really hoping to see more growth in Xandy. Quinn was a classic butch protector.

Touching

This story has a lot of eye opening truths about relationships and human behavior towards lesbian and gay love. This story is exciting and touching all in one. I really enjoyed this read and looking forward to more books by Sherryl Hancock.

Initially I wasn't sold on Quinn, my visualization would have been better in the beginning with a more physical description of her. I did enjoy the book, very different from the 1st in the series. I will keep reading the WeHo as it mentions prior characters in following books.

One of the better ones

This is one of the better books in this series as they get a little over the top further in to the series. I like Quinn and Xandy and they go fairly well together as characters.

Nice follow up

This story is a nice follow up book for this series. It offers a similar concept as the first one but with other circumstances & situations, tying it into the series by linking in previous characters & introducing potential future ones.
