A new generation of wolves find love in Mountain Ridge

Jaspar is a young alpha who finds himself torn between worlds. Born as the verum Alpha of a land now occupied by the ruthless Alliance of Wolves, Jaspar and his father were forced to flee their own pack when Jaspar was barely old enough to remember all the Alliance took from him: His mother. His throne. The verum omega who was destined to become his mate.

Raised as a Mountain Ridge wolf, Jaspar would do anything for his family and the friends he grew up with--especially Tyr, the equally kind and gorgeous omega--but he's never been able to escape the feeling that this life doesn't belong to him. Tyr certainly doesn't, but the omega wants him despite his brokenness. Jaspar knows that if he and Tyr are to have any hope of a future together, he has to return home to settle an old score and finally lay the ghosts of his past to rest.

Tyr has everything he could possibly want as the Mountain Ridge Alpha's son. The war with the Alliance has always been a distant threat, one that could never touch his idyllic life so far from the painful past his parents knew. Everything is perfect, until the eve of his seventeenth birthday, when the unthinkable happens: Jaspar announces that he's leaving. With his childhood coming to an abrupt end and the only alpha he's ever loved halfway across the world on a deadly mission, Tyr is left to begin picking up the pieces of his shattered life. He would wait a lifetime for Jaspar, but when the alpha finally returns, will either one of them be the same?

Oh. My. Goodness. What is it with these authors making me crazy for their works? This book pulled out all the stops to make you come out the other end a teary-eyed, blubbering mess!

I'm still reeling from the shock of the events which happened. Why, Nara, why? I'm counting myself lucky none of my fellow employees at work caught me when I was like this while reading:

I loved Jaspar and Tyr, their strengths and weaknesses, their struggles to find a place in life which would bring them some peace after the chaos and destruction the war was causing all around them. It was so heartbreaking, watching the aftermath and brutal consequences, how one thoughtless action can cause havoc in the lives of those who are left behind to suffer.

It is a hard journey, and the author sure didn't hold back. Guys, prepare yourself by reading this while alone in a room and no one to witness your descent into incoherence when you just cannot process why the things are happening the way they are.

The ending is happy, yes, but the huge loss that we suffer is in no way compensated for. I don't think I can recover from the heartbreak and loss that I have incurred, even though it was a time for that to have happened anyway. I just was not ready for it, and I never would have been. The mention at the end about us maybe getting to know what happened is making me impatient to get my hands on the next book now! I'm guessing it may be Kent's story next (he grew up to be such a dashing, adorable alpha!), but I'm happy to let the author surprise me. I'm just relieved that there won't be any such shocks and curves in the upcoming books.

There were MANY typos in the book, the most prominent was Tyr's name being mistyped (?) as Jaspar, too many times for me to ignore. The author was also not able to keep the kids' names right. Sheri went from being Mitchell's kid to Hassan's! The story was perfect, the plot, the storyline, the characters, their development, everything was ace, but someone please edit this good book to make it a great one!
And that is the reason of my deducting 0.5 star.

Books like this and Dragons Sky remind me why PNR/MPREG/MM Shifter is my most cherished subgenre. I love the doting alphas, their overprotective nature, their absolute love for their strong omegas. I can never get enough of this subgenre.

Well, this book just wrecked me. Review to come, but I had a serious ugly cry while reading this and need something fluffy to end the night on.

ETA: YOU GUYS Is there any, any possible, slight, barely there chance that

UG this book is hard to rate, because I LOVED it, but it gutted me at the same time - but I truly think that's a compliment to the author for writing characters that we have fallen in love with, and really created a complex world with excellent storytelling. Each story has gotten better and better, and I love that we are seeing so many of the kids from the first few books now adults and getting their own stories.

I wanted to slap Jaspar and Tyr upside their heads at various times since they were just so....young and stubborn, but they grew so much through this story. I love that Tyr came to be independent, to find meaning to his life other than just being Jaspar's mate, but I wish that Jaspar had been there for Tyr and their families, and able to communicate with everyone all while trying to make things right with getting rid of the Alliance.

I LOVE this series but this one hurt, not gonna lie. Still, can't wait for the next book and more from this author. HIGHLY recommended!

His Verum Omega
By L.C. Davis

This book was so overwhelmingly heartbreaking. I literally cried through the entire story. While it does have POV's from both main characters you mostly get Tyr's POV and it's filled with anguish.

It took Jaspar far to long to realize what he had in Tyr and IMHO Tyr forgave him much to quickly for the heartbreak and wasted five years of their lives. Not only that, but when Tyr's father passed Jaspar couldn't even be bothered to write him a letter or call him. Their story, despite those 3 factors, was otherwise wonderfully written.

I also have a serious issue with the deaths of 2 of the MC's that have been in most of the books in this series so far that also took place in this book... Call me a temperamental reader, but when we're left with every question there could be about how they died... I can't forgive that.

I won't be -so- temperamental as to say I'll refuse to read any of the rest of the series (especially since I'm just finishing the next book after this already), but it was a huge blow.

Just a note to writers from readers who love your work... Never Ever EVER kill off beloved characters!

Emotional and special

Emotional and special story of destiny, choice, love, revenge, betrayal, stretch loss, and growth. Definitely a tear invoking journey for us readers and these charactes. I love that besides the main characters of the book, we get to still see the older characters and what they are up to. Love it all.

This book is about the next generation and it's great! Love the characters and story and the happy ending. No cliffhanger but I can't wait for the next one. Gentle teaser: 2 of my favorite characters die.

This one can be read as a standalone but it's best as part of the series.

Spoilers inc...

I rated this book four stars for the fact that there were quite a few errors, including swapping names and words completely and I wasn't a big fan of the way it was spaced out over four years >.<

Here come the spoilers so beware.....

I rated this book three stars because of the insane emotional trauma I was subjected to while reading this book and for no real reason I can understand especially since we were never really told what happened or why.

I spent the rest of the book waiting for the killed off characters to magically come back alive and well, even after a two year jump I was still holding out hope because I just couldn't understand how the author could do something so horrible as to murder off characters that we were made to love through past books, like seriously, wtf?? And why? So that the characters in this book would have some sort of emotional turmoil?? If this is going to be the new norm I'm really not interested in reading future books.

This book just caused too much crying for me to really be able to enjoy it, I'm happy Tyr and Jaspar got their HEAs (kinda, aside from the whole dead dads part) but it just wasn't enough to make up for all the sadness.

This book killed off the series for me. Was there no neater way to advance the overarching intrigue while pushing forward the lackluster plot specific to this entry than by confining to the grave a pair of major characters from the previous two instalments? Given the paltriness of the leads in His Verum Omega and the utterly bland and formulaic romance their antics fail big time to enliven, one can only speculate that Mrs Davis, having realized that she had backed herself in a corner, decided that the only way out was to off in dramatic fashion some of her recurring cast. She did not even pause to ask herself whether she had done nearly enough in the way of preparation, by disseminating clues in the previous books and in the first half of the present one as to a recrudescence of the conflict between pack alliances, for that dramatic escalation to make sense. Since the writing is as clumsily plodding as ever, borderline sophomoric, and the proof-reading shines by its absence, this was a signally cheap trick to play on her captive readership, even it must be conceded that an author does with their creation as they please and are entitled to flights of fancy in the form of a tabula rasa so as to jumpstart a new phase in a series. I am finished with Mrs Davis; whatever happens to her next generation of shifters is no longer of concern to me, as I feel confident that it cannot fail to be as bad and contrived as most of this series has been.

3,5*

PLEASE READ MY RATING SYSTEM!!!

To my ratings:
A 3,5* is clicked with a 4* but in review marked as 3,5*:

5* - very very good and rare (it would be a Blow-Away-book like ‘Jesse's Smile’ or ‘Joey’ from Angelique Jurd, ‘Save the the kids’ series
from EM Leya, ‘Love’s Tethered Heart’ from C.L. Etta or ‘Liberty’ from Seth King),
it's like an A+

4* - very good and will be often reread and is a WOW-book with interesting plot and surprises (like most of Andrew Grey books and Davidson Kings 'Haven Hart'-series)
it's like an A

3,5* - a really good book, which will be reread a few times (most romances where you can enjoy for relaxing and during waiting times in
hospitals). I can recommend them definitively!
It's like an B+

3* - it could be more then a one-time-reader (2-3 times a year),
it's like a B

2* - it was ok to read, but it's more a one-time-reader (I wouldn't recommend it heartily, but it was ok)
It's like a C-, D

1* - sorry, but that isn't really a book for me (too many mistakes, not nice plot, illogical, so an absolute NO-GO). It's like failure in the
whole line, dismissed, repeat the class

My biggest gripe with this book was all of the tissues I went through. Whether you're uber sensitive to heartbreaking romance or feel the loss of favorite characters as keenly as their fictional loved ones, you WILL cry. If you don't like the idea of precious characters from the earlier books getting killed off by the writer don't even read this book and keep them forever happy in your memories.

On the other hand, if you're anxious to read the stories of the children from the earlier books (like Jasper and Tyr), this is a can't-miss book. If you want to find out the outcome of the war that was brewing in the last book and what happens to the territory that was Jasper's birthright, you MUST read this book.

My only other complaint that lowered this rating was, as usual, the poor editing. Sometimes the names would be mixed up and the "Marouns" name appeared with at least three different spellings. I actually gave up trying to figure out which was the real spelling. Between the editing and the deaths of beloved characters, I gave this a 4 instead of a 5.

"His Verum Omega" received ONE stars.

This one felt very, very flat.

I wouldn’t say Davis is an excellent writer (or editor) but she is a fabulous story teller and I always enjoyed her stories. Not the case with this one. Hopefully the next in the series will be like the previous ones.

The novel gained *stars* for these items:

* gained for: "The book caught my interest in the first five pages."

The novel failed to gain stars for these items:

NO STAR gained for: "I thought about the book when I was forced to set it down and re-enter society."

NO STAR gained for: "There were no info dumps, poor writing, or copy edit mistakes that jerked me out of the story."

NO STAR gained for: "I was sad when the book ended. I wanted more!"

NO STAR gained for: "That's it. I'm hooked on this author. I will automatically try anything s/he writes."

This is an excellent book to read.

This is one of the most engrossing books in this series although we lose two big characters that made me sad.

The story is about Jaspar and Tyr who are childhood friends and the next generation of Verum alpha and Verum omega. The war between the federation and alliance has raged all their lives but when Jaspar decided to seek revenge in his homeland it shatters Tyr's world.

Years go by and both men change and mature and when Jaspar hears that Tyr is to be mated he rushes back to the mountains to claim his omega but what he doesn't realise is how much Tyr has changed.

Can both men get to know each other again and can Tyr forgive Jaspar for breaking his heart. You will have to read to find out.

Highly recommended.

Beautiful and sad. I couldn't believe what happened and I had to stop reading. I started again the next day and I'm glad I did, but still. It was such a shock.
In the end, life went on, and it was so well written that I just had to rate it high. Beautifully bittersweet.
It reminds me of that Dr Who quote from the end of The Return of Doctor Mysterio: Everything ends. And it's always sad. But everything begins again too. And that's always happy.

MORE THAN YOU COULD EVER IMAGINE

This book was more than I could've ever imagined. When I thought of Tyr and Jaspar, who would've guessed their lives could take such different paths. This story was INCREDIBLE. I couldn't put it down. It was intense, heartbreaking, encouraging, empowering and beautiful. It gives you every spectrum of emotion. But throughout, you never lose sight of the undying love, devotion and support of the pack. I absolutely loved this story. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK AND THIS MAGNIFICENT SERIES!!!!!

So much love.

This series has me hooked. Book 8 has been the hardest to read so far. It made me cry so much. I had to take a short break from it at one point. I was slightly peeved at the author. Not anymore though. Hassan and Tyr went through so much pain that made them stronger and better able to understand each other. The depth of the characters in this series is astounding.

I am quite dissapointed with this book. Jaspar is a straight up idiot. I knew Priya wasn't his destined mate from the beggining. I wished Tyr had a stronger backbone. He gave in way too easily to Jaspar and should've reprimanded Jaspar for his dumb decision the 2nd time around when he chose to leave again to save Priya. All Jasper did was make empty promises.

On the end note, I can't believe the author killed off two important (prior main) characters like that. How gut wrenching.

Epic Story telling!

So shocking the directions this book took I nearly did not want to read it but as the main characters developed and more of the older characters remained I am glad I read the entire book. This book became such a grand and epic story of growth and change and the most beautiful love story I have ever read!

Emotional rollercoaster!

I have read the entire series and this is by far my favorite! I definitely recommend keeping a box of tissues nearby. The and Jaspar's story is a love story of the ages. Like the rest of the series this book is well written and the characters continue to 've full of depth. Would love a story with lots of Toval. *hint hint*

So So

The story was going well, but The must gave back in to Jasper. There was no earning trust and love back, just hot sex and then forgiveness. After the extremely long read between Jasper leaving and coming back I expected better. The scenes with Oriya was just beyond underwhelming! Not this author's best work.

I was in actual tears...

This was by far the best one of the series. You can really see how the author's writing style has matured and grown. Very sweet and touching. The character development was complex and interesting. You're watching this family that has been around for 18+ years and watching the children find mates is really special.

Strong Alpha and Omega

Jasper and Tyr's story is full of angst from their past and struggles in their future. Jasper is Verum Alpha and if fated to mate a Verum Omega. He thinks he's destined to mate Pyria, who he thinks had been killed, only for her to make an appearance later in the story. I enjoyed this story and plan on reading more in this series.

No HEA

I thought this series was a genre romance series but the author broke the most important rule in romance by tearing apart two beloved couples. What a way to a) waste the readers time, b) give the reader the exact opposite of what they are looking for. If I wanted to read stories that don’t have an HEA I would just read the news.

I love this series and they keep getting better. This was was filled with a shocker I didn't see coming, but it was fitting for the story. I thought Doc and Blues story was my favorite, but this surpasses them all by far.
