Pride and Prejudice Variation

Mr. Darcy's Secret Desires: A Pride and Prejudice Variation

Rate this book
Mr. Darcy has a secret, one he can never tell his innocent new bride... But what if Elizabeth has been keeping secrets, too? Mr. Darcy loves Elizabeth Bennet with all his heart. And now that she is finally his wife, he would do anything to make her happy. Even if that means locking away his most secret desires. She would run in terror if she knew the ways he wanted to love her…and dominate her. Darcy would do anything to protect his sweet Lizzy. Even—and especially—hiding that part of himself from her, forever. But then he discovers that Elizabeth has been keeping secrets of her own… Darcy will have to decide if it's time to take matters—and Elizabeth—into his own hands. Will revealing his secrets save their marriage—or tear them apart? This sensual, intimate variation of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice features naughty gamekeepers (and an even naughtier Darcy), misunderstandings, steamy scenes (and one steamy bathtub)…and true love! With its high heat level, it is best enjoyed by readers 18 years of age or older.

This seemed like it would be a fun journey to take. It is a unique take and is 4 months after Elizabeth and Darcy have wed. I remember thinking it took awhile before Darcy is even shown. It starts at Lizzy's pov and she is dealing with insecurities and uncertainty concerning her husband. She doesn't feel as close to her husband as she wants. I wish we were there to see what the first 4 months were like I think it would have made me feel closer to how Lizzy and Darcy must feel at this stage of their marriage. The author wants to change Darcy's whole being by creating this dark side if you will and Elizabeth with a show of weakness. He has secret fantasies and are you ready for this ladies? He gains all he knows from an older married widow from his youth. I think that with this first blow I felt like I don't know this man at all. While I've read many where he kept a mistress this seemed different because of the nature of his intimate taste. It sort of felt like betrayal to Lizzy to share that side with other ladies and not with her. It could have been any man but this was Darcy. I have my own ideas of what I want to see in his character. He has to be confident, strong, protective, gentle, affectionate, devoted, loving and yes just a little bit proud. The next chapter went to Darcy's POV so you do get both sides.

The shift from everything we know of our characters made it hard to accept them fully. Lizzy discovers this side to a married couples relationship she never could have imagined and it opens this curiosity in her. She is a woman unclear rather or not she makes her husband happy. He is cold, proud and she fears she is struggling to make a good mistress. Linda Berdoll wrote a book called, "Darcy Takes a Wife." What made me love it was it was that it starts out slow letting the reader experience doubt, fear and confusion that Lizzy experienced. You could imagine yourself in her place and relate to her growth as things changed in her life. Darcy had that cold and passionate side but we watch as he begins to show her another side behind closed doors.

If you're going to make such drastic changes in the original couples personalities I think this slow build up is crucial to sell your idea. Everything has changed that to me would include to beginning as well. Wouldn't it? Maybe some flashbacks. Darcy hooking up with an old widowed lady made him less special to me and he is written semi shallow. I'm not sure why other than the image of him being described as a youth learning all manner of depravities was a side he did not want his innocent wife to see. Later when he learns of Lizzy's curiosity he tells her he can show her things that he has learned from many years prior. It was hard for me to hear and would his experience been from a book. The thought of Darcy telling Lizzy of his past exploits bothered me. Thank god we did not have to witness it.

Men did this as common practice I know, but is it in good taste for Darcy to share this with his wife? I guess both sides would have its own point. I felt the things that made Darcy special in my mind were shattered with such a short read. Lizzy did not have her strong sense of self which took away from what I admire in her as well. I did like how affectionately she thought of Darcy but these feelings were not by this authors design but the precedence Austen had created. It took what we all know from the original and built from there. The 4 month gap was an unfortunate oversight IMO. I want to see those early beginnings of being introduced to such a drastic change. I'm not talking just the marital bed but everything she left and putting all her faith in a man she barely knew. What she did know was a great start. I think what any potential reader of this book should know is that a Darcy trying to hide his sexual side because he doesn't think his country miss could bare it and an uncertain Lizzy who can not talk to her husband is the main angst you deal with in the book.

I still gave it 3 stars because Darcy and Lizzy were together and while surrounded by secrets they still remained devoted. The author shows writing capabilities. I have read far worse books of this angle and feel that she did attempt to make it a little more than just sex. There are not many spelling or grammatical errors either. The length of the book is not shown but it is a short book.

Four stars... would be five but then!!
Okay, really liked the writing, for me the POV Switches were good, the sex fabulous, really good writing, and I had no issue with the characters. Each person has their own interpretation on who Darcy and Lizzie are and this is this writers interpretation. I found that fine.
The reason for four stars is it's too short, I read in an hour! And... oh the opportunities. The writers builds up to what should be an amazing "scene" between them both, Darcy threatening to Make Lizzie beg when she tells him she will not, the chapter finishes and there is no "scene", just a quick brush over of Lizzie considering "all the things Darcy did to her" gah!!! But after all the buildup you don't see it.
Seriously please please please write this scene or I will... consider an updated edition on this because I like it soooo much and I was so sad you didn't go the whole way.
So that's my review. Purists, sex happens, even in JA's world, get over it. So I recommend this book to everyone unless you have delicate sensibilities.
But please Caitlin, write the scene. I wanna see.
Oh I've bought all your other books. :) keep the faith. ;)

The best intimate variation I have read.
Contains light BDSM. Contrary to the theme, it didn't feel vulgar and that's why I decided to leave a review which I usually do not in this genre. Blush...

Not for JA purists

This was another story based on P&P, though loosely threaded with a Fifty Shades of Grey theme, regency style. Why do authors initially have Elizabeth as a strong well-spoken woman pre-wedding, but once she is married she becomes this meek maiden?!?!

The Darcy's have been married for 4 mos, Elizabeth witnesses something while on a walk in the grove near Pemberley. This experience sets her thinking. But her interactions with Mr Darcy are ridiculously meek and OOC, even Jane mentions it. All the while Mr Darcy is dealing with his demons, therefore he tends to retreat from Elizabeth. Things come to a head and the dam breaks.

Sorry, I am not a prude and I love when things are changed up a bit from canon, especially since if it stuck too close to canon it would be plagiarism. This story just did not do it for me. I did not rate it lower because it had good bones and was well written. There is a lot of mature content.

Austen purists and sexual purists, just don't read this piece. Very well-written and somewhat believable Darcy dom erotica. Not full hardcore BDSM...gentle Darcy and innocent Lizzy don't go too dom/sub. Story and angst leading up to and behind their naughtiness makes the premise a solid possibility. If you want to be tied up and spanked by Mr Darcy, then tenderly cared for...this is the read for you.

Steamy story...

Steamy story that in my opinion stays true to the characters I've come to love. This story was very well written and flows really well....if you have a few hours of down time this is a great book to read.

Mr. Darcy's Secret Desires

If this type of thing is what you like, then it was a good book, and it would be recommended for strictly adult readers. If you are more prudish, then do not even bother to consider buying this book.

A well written naughty book. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Adults only.

Newlyweds who discovers the joy of learning watch others sexual preferences as only Darcy and Elizabeth can. A good and spicy read. 50 Shades of the Darcys.

Hot and sensual

This hot sensual book was incredibly written. Not too sexual, but enough to make you want more. Darcy is in command, but Elizabeth knows how to get what she wants
