The black middle class—saviors of the American way.
Liberalism or How to Turn Good Men into Whiners, Weenies and Wimps documents the role of the 21 white, self-avowed socialist, atheist and Marxist founders of the NAACP and their impact on the Black community’s present status at the top of our nations misery index. It highlights the decades of anti-Black legislation supported by liberal black leaders who prioritized class over race in their zeal for the promises of socialism. Their anti-Black legislation, dating back with the 1932 Davis-Bacon Act, continues today to suppress inter-community Black capitalism, federal construction related Black employment, work and job experience for Black teenagers, quality education access for urban black children, and the role of black men as leaders within the family unit.
Liberalism or How to Turn Good Men into Whiners, Weenies and Wimps highlights the strategy, used in 1910, to inject the atheist ideology of socialism into a once enterprising, self-sufficient, competitive and proud Christian black community. A portion of that community, the conservative Black middle class, is positioned to pull our nation back from this abyss.
Americans can ensure that the century-long sacrifice of lost hopes, dreams and lives made by the proud, courageous, patriotic, capitalist, Christianbased, self-sufficient, education-seeking Black community of the early 1900s was not in vain—but only if we choose to learn lessons from those past Black generations.
Anytime I learn something historical from a book, I'll give it 5 stars. Burgess taught me several things I didn't know, including:
- The NAACP was started by white socialist liberals, some of which publicly advocated for the extermination of the black race. Given their associations, the 'Advancement' portion of the NAACP acronym meant 'control', which is still in place today.
- W.E.B. Dubois was the antithesis of arguably the greatest Black American to ever live, Booker T. Washington. Dubois was a tool of those white socialists & his monthly NCAAP newsletter was screened by them before it was sent out to the unsuspecting black community.
- LBJ knew that his welfare programs were decimating the black family and spoke to the importance of black men leading their families. He & his associates' message was passed off as mean-spirited and was ignored. The 'victim mentality' became en vogue and it is still flourishing today.
- BET is run by white socialist liberals at Viacom. White folks push trash disguised as entertainment and give them a purely liberal political message which reinforces the victim mentality message that's sure to keep most of them dependent on govt for another 100 years.
In other words, since the early 1900's, there's been a strong, direct connection between white liberal socialists and the struggles of the black community. Black liberal politicians have sold out their people for political & financial gain.
There are no shortage of evil charlatans in the black community such as Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Barack Obama, and on and on. They live the American Dream and live better than 99% of us but they wouldn't be caught dead in the black community except to gain votes or to organize the next march. Yet they gain & retain their power by this sick charade.
There are such leaders popping up in the Hispanic community and if our Hispanic friends fall prey to the socialist's false promises, they will follow the same path of generational poverty and anger.
You don't really see this with other minority groups. Asians, in particular, don't spend much time whining or blaming whites or "the rich" for their problems. While the black and hispanic communities are looking for someone to blame, being agitated by posers like Jesse Jackson, Asians seem to spend their time in more constructive ways.
Burgess has the same desire as I do, which is the uplifting of all races and colors through free-market capitalism and the elimination of class warfare by organically creating more minority-owned businesses. Race-hustling politicians don't create these; smart, hardworking minority entrepreneurs do.
Can you imagine the message of Booker T. Washington being the source of the black community's thinking? Or any community, for that matter. I know a lot of my white liberal friends that could benefit from reading Washington's 'Up From Slavery'.
This is a long book packed with information you probably were unaware of. Read it.
Just bought Owen's book. It is worth reading just for the introduction where he has bullet points about what he believes. He obviously has given this a great deal of thought. I could easily adopt his personal believes as my own; I think I will. Can't wait to get further into the book.
Can't remember ever reading a book that makes me feel sick like the Owens' book has done. I could not stop reading it, word by word. I am ashamed to admit that this is part of our American history that I was ignorant of. It was never taught in any school I have attended. In fact we were taught a "whitewashed" version of slavery. I have never liked Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton but that was just a dislike for what they obviously were doing. Owens' book explains exactly who they are. why they do what they do, and how they have been propped up by "the man behind the curtain" the elites of the country/world, referring to the Wizard of Oz.
I have seen references of how Hillary Clinton was so impressed by Margaret Sanger. I watched Hillary's America and the reference to Margaret Sanger. Owens puts an exclamation mark on Sanger's history and activities to murder (for a lack of a better term) minorities who didn't match up to her definition of being exceptional. We are about to elect someone who idolizes Sanger who idolized the likes of Hitler and Stalin.
I read Andy Andrews book, How Do You Kill 11 Million People and it was startling. Since 1972 over 16 MILLION black babies have been murdered by Planned Parenthood an organization started by Sanger for the purpose of eradicating the undesirable segments of Black Americans who didn't, in her opinion, measure up to being exceptional. The collective voices of Black America are silent on this issue. Why?
I had never heard of the term Black Royalty before or the Talented Tenth. It certainly explains why so few Blacks seem outraged over the abortions of Planned Parenthood or the high murder rate in places like Chicago, Baltimore, New Orleans et al. These two groups represent a thinking of elite Blacks that they are better than 90% of the rest of Blacks and that the 90% need to be weeded out in order to preserve the prestige and power of the "Talented Tenth" (10% of those "special" Black AND White people).
This book fits in very nicely with the plans of the world's elites to create a one-world government where the elites "know what is best" for the rest of us and we. the rest, are just too stupid to know what is best for ourselves.
I love this book but it sickens me to know what people in powerful positions including our own government and even the Supreme Court have done to Blacks since the Civil War when slavery was finally put to rest. I was totally unaware of how many Blacks support programs that have been responsible for the deaths of so many Blacks IN AMERICA. It also explains how our FIRST Black President has been silent on these issues as well – in simple terms because he considers himself part of the “Talented Tenth.” Sickening.
As a kid growing up in Youngstown Ohio (the melting pot of America because of the availability of jobs in the many steel mills in the area), because of playing sports at the local playgrounds, I was aware that "light skinned" blacks disliked the "dark skinned" blacks. I didn't pay much attention to it at the time but now I understand because of this book how the "light skinned" blacks think of themselves as being part of the "Talented Tenth" group of Blacks.
The people that should be reading this book (Blacks) most likely never will and that is truly sad. They as a race are being screwed by both the White AND Black elites of the world and America and have no idea that they are being screwed. Worse, they keep electing the very people (the Talented Tenth) who are screwing them.
We are witnessing the possible election of a new President who has supported very racist policies and in my world that makes HER a racist of the worst kind - a stealth racist; a Margaret Sanger racist. And 92% or higher of all Blacks will vote for her. The world is upside down for sure.
Please read this fabulous and very informative book. Obviously there are people (Owens) who understand what is happening and that means there is still hope for America.
I encourage everyone to read this book and share it with any black friends! This information is so needed right now in our country for everyone's sake!
The high rating for this book is really deceiving. It is poorly edited, repetitive, and much of it does not seem to be in support of the title/central theme, but exists as an extended rant. It is a 100 page book stretched into an unnecessary 350-pages.
The effort is barely amateurish; many of the citations are for Wikipedia, Bing searches, or to non-primary sources when references to the primary sources exist. The punctuation and formatting mistakes range for merely incorrect to outright baffling. One bullet list contains the same item as the first two items of the list; some sentences end without finishing or pick up halfway through another sentence; capitalization, quotes, italics, and bolding are all used for emphasis with no discernible consistency; and on and on. There is at least one instance that can be considered plagiarism; more may exist, but I only caught this one.
Most of the book serves as an extended (and often slanderous) rant of WEB DuBois, Margaret Sanger, the NAACP, BET, and others. Not once, not twice, nor three times, but ad nauseam. The term "liberalism" is seemingly used here to classify any position the author doesn't like. No attempt is made to define the term, though it does seem to be a combination of "positions of the Democratic party" and "establishment positions".
Whether you agree with the underlying points (so far as they exist), there are surely much better books or articles covering the topic. If this was run past an editor, they should be fired and never re-hired. Do not be fooled by it's high rating (at the time of this review: 4.4). It is unmitigated garbage.
Burgess Owens has done a great job in describing the honorable history of the black communities of the 1930's through the 1960's. He comes from a self reliant family that taught him the value of hard work, dedication and the tenacity of accomplishment! His recount of generations of honorable, respected and successful black Americans prior to the introduction of the welfare state was truly inspiring!
I found myself being shocked and angry at the same time being fascinated how the liberal message has been soaked up by the black community. This book should be read by everyone. The message of how living as a victim of the system and not owning your personal responsibilities can literally ruin generations of a society. He demonstrates how the liberal agenda has robbed able-bodied men of their innate role as provider and protector of their families and actually encouraged these men to shirk their responsibilities of being head of the household.
He spends a great deal of time on the honor and efforts of Booker T. Washington as well as the underhanded socialist, W.E.B. Dubois and how each effected the black community then and now. The sections on Margaret Sanger and her mission to eliminate the "human weeds" aka the black community, by enlisting help from members of the 'Top Tenth, Royalty Black Class', and black ministers of the black community are enough to make you sick.
In chapter 12 he outlines the history of the Davis-Bacon Act which was fascinating but I disagree with his take on that law of today. There is a huge opportunity for black Americans to not only thrive in construction but to take advantage of the Davis-Bacon wages that are open to ANY contractors who work on government funded projects.
That aside, I think he is spot on with the title of the book. In many ways it's a sad but excellent read!
He quotes many people in this book. One quote by Frederick Douglas drove it home for me: "What shall we do with the Negro? I have had but one answer from the beginning. Do nothing with us! Your doing with us has already played the mischief with us. Do nothing with us! If the apples will not remain on the tree of their own strength, if they are worm-eaten at the core, if they are early ripe and disposed to fall, let them fall! I am not for tying or fastening them on the tree in any way, except by nature's plan, and if they will not stay there, let them fall. And if the Negro cannot stand on his own legs, let him fall also. All I ask is, give him a chance to stand on his own legs! Let him alone!"
I think this book is a must read for anyone. With the current situation the United States is in, our people need to know what's really happening in our country and why. A few of his sources come from sites that don't have the best credibility: sites like Wikipedia for example. But don't let that discredit the information which is proven true by many sources. I also think the title is a sad truth. Good people are being turned into cry babies due to liberalism. Burgess Owens is a smart man and a former NFL football player. And seeing how he feels about what has happened and what is still effecting the black community to this day, is simply jaw-dropping and eye-opening.
I found Liberalism or How to Turn Good Men into Whiners, Weenies and Wimps by Burgess Owens to be a fact-filled and full of surprising information like the founders of the NAACP were all white atheist Marxists. The author who is a black former college and NFL football player who is known as a conservative author and commentator, examines and analyzes the many causes and reasons the black communities remain at the bottom of the American economic classes. Much of the blame he places on liberal policies that seem well-intended but tend to lock blacks into the lower rungs of society by making them dependent on government. He discusses the phenomenon of black communities generally holding and living their lives by what are considered conservative principles yet continue to support and vote for liberal promises to improve their lives but are instead slowly indoctrinated into socialist and atheist ideology. The author discusses strategies to reverse this trend and allow blacks to take ownership of their own lives and begin their journey to success. This was a well-written and thought-provoking discussion about why liberal socialism is holding the black population back from their success. If you are reading about racial tensions and what can be done about it, you should definitely include this book in your reading list.
What an engaging and informative book. I learned many things I was ignorant of with regards to many people and organizations. The author’s insight and perspective on racism, loyalty to your country, and self determination were detailed and backed up with historical facts. I highly recommend this book to all.
A very enlightening book about the difference between earlier (beginning of 20th Century) Black leaders Booker T Washington & W.E.B. Dubois. It's a review (with detailed references) about what happened to the once prospering Black middle-class families & communities of the late 1940s-mid 1960s, & what role BET (Television), the NAACP, & Planned Parenthood all have in its demise. It gives the detailed history of Planned Parenthood, the the real reason it was started, as well as describing DuBois' "Talented Tenth" that supported her from the beginning & (a few of) the current supporters who are betraying their Race. Owens points out that the Black Royalty Class (the Talented Tenth) puts their own self interest above that of their Race, & that Eugenics (in the form of abortion has done more harm by far in the last 30+ years than the KKK & slavery did in hundreds of years...& it's still doing great harm at an unprecedented rate. Owens is currently running for Utah's 4th Congressional Seat; I picked up this book from our Library after hearing him interviewed on local radio station. I liked what I heard from him at the time (even though I don't remember anything about the interview) , & I learned a great deal in reading the book. Owens says there is still hope to redeem & build up a Black middle class where fathers take responsibility for their actions, honor their wives, teach their children to be & act responsibly.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Of the 27 books I've have read about liberalism, progressives, communism, which all incorporate Racism, this book is too me a very well condensed read on the spoils of human endeavour. All of the above forms of government forms, are ego driven power, thinking they know more than you, when in reality government only works when altruism is they main theme of their governing. Socialism which is part of the above mentioned so called leaderships have never worked too any success throughout the world. The countries than installed socialism, all experienced debilitating returns. The only place that it worked for a while, was in the Kibbutz in Israel in the early years and in the first years until the Begin administration which was conservative.Socialism in the Kibbutz just dried up,mainly because it down played family. Before you can have good government, you have to have good families. Roger A.Harris
This book should be required reading. It should be taught in high schools and colleges as are taught progressive ideas. I will never forget what I have been reminded of ( not learned) by this book.
Great detail and in-depth analysis on how we have arrived at this time of so much devisive politics. Detailed history into the characters and organizations that have shaped our history.
This entire book was that of a rant. This author appears to label anyone who doesn't share his ideology, as godless, atheist, liberals. He appears to be pandering to the current republican party by using misinformation, and inflammatory language, based on misinformation he cites from other right wing sources and wikipedia. That's only when he sites sources. Some of his "data" has no source sited for reference.
For reference, one example of an inflammatory "fact" stated by the author is this; "Based on a 2010 Census, there are approximately 40 million black Americans, representing 12.3 percent of the U.S. Population. This is down from 14.8 percent of the population in 2000. This represents 40 percent of the present Black population that has been aborted for profit or convenience at the alter of the ideology of Liberalism."
Since politically, I tend to move one way or the other according to the current environment, I try to remain open to varied opinion and current in the thoughts and actions of our evolving society. I read the book because of a recommendation from someone that I respect. From the title of the book, I wasn't quite sure what to expect. This definitely fell below any expectations that I could have had.
This book, out in 2016, clearly fits the narrative of that timeframe. Things like, "The Liberal Black Man would rather position himself as a cowardly beggar, if ever called upon to defend the life and honor of own wife and children", "Liberalism resides in it ability to neuter men" and The anti-American, Anti-God, Anti-Free Enterprise ideology has finally after decades, gained enough acceptance through years of progressive education that many are now proud to call it what is has always been... Socialism". By the way, I noticed this author then ran and was elected to Congress. No surprise there.
Besides the fact that this book must not have had a proof-reader/Editor, which was distracting, there was a great deal of material that was repetitive. It just felt like the author was fear mongering throughout the entirety of this book. I learned of atheist, liberal abortionists killing babies, "the man behind the curtain" who owns CBS & UPN cable television networks, and the liberal political leadership disarming the remaining 240 million law-abiding American gun owners.
Perhaps the most eye-opening revelation, is the projection within the rant. There were many instances of blatent hypocrisy throughout the book, but the most obvious was when the author stated, "This explains the vitriol, name-calling, mean and angry demeaning of minorities who step out the line with the prescribed ideology of Liberalism." (and yes, that is the way it was written) It was with that statement in mind, that I reflected upon this book and its title.
I liked the book a lot. As a Black conservative and an author who grew up during the 50's and 60's, I understood much about the breakdown of the African-American family structure. I also learned most of the history the author exposes about the NAACP and Planned Parenthood on my own. Just for that knowledge this book should be a must read!
I heard Burgess Owens interviewed on a national radio program and was very impressed. My only disappointment was the little insight given to the psychological and spiritual weakness that has infected the black males because of over emotionalism. The embrace of a victim hood mentality and the prison sub-culture has corrupted too many Black youth! Group Think is evidence of the withering ability for critical independent thinking among Black males and females. The prevailing belief's of too many is still that African-American's deserve to be wards of the government because of past injustices. I hope this book will help some discover that they are still on the Plantation, but it's called Democrat or Social Justice. Remember that the death of the Calmly strong, dignified, intelligent, and independent Black child is being buried by the public school system and it's soft bigotry of low expectations! @williamingramAuthor
I would give this book five stars, but I couldn't because of the sourcing (in some cases) and some of grammatical errors that slipped through. This information is available in many historical books and other books. I have studied history (minor in college) and learned all of this. It is a message that needs to get out before our next generation grows up as victims, rather than proud, strong people. Owens has a dearth of information here. I'll wager a bet that most people have absolutely NO idea that the NAACP was founded by white elitists.Imagine how much our society would change if our children knew this and were taught this. I recommend the read even though the sourcing could be better.
I found some very interesting ideas and statements in this book...
the outstanding statement is that liberalism excuses the need for self-responsibility, independence, and integrity.
The premise that if we always do what we have always done, then we will always get the same results.... seems like a rational assertion.
Clinton changed the welfare program, which needed to be overhauled. America's promise is hope, not free. We are only required to do our best... to inch your way to better. The changes were for the betterment of the system.
We shall overcome. But you have to try.... there is no easy path when you are overcoming.
Honestly, this was not an uplifting read for me. It is very sad to hear the negative impacts of liberalism and how it has impacted the black population in our country. I am thankful for the perspective of Burgess Owens and others who have the courage to say what needs to be said. Policies that treat blacks as victims of the system rather than as human beings who are capable of succeeding are not helpful to anyone. There is a desperate need for the conservative, black middle class to be heard. The success of the enterprising, self-sufficient, competitive and proud Christian black community is emphasized in the book. Their example and leadership is the hope for the future!
Owens covers a lot of the history of Blacks in America, focusing on the impacts of social programs and of "Royalty Black Class" influence and organizations, such as the NAACP. He contends that while groups like Planned Parenthood and the NAACP have worked to keep Black Americans in line and voting Democrat, while pretending to work on their behalf, it is Conservatism and free enterprise that offer the best opportunities to improve their lot in life. Owens is clearly very passionate, and that definitely comes through. It is a tough read, much in need of a good editor, but it is worth the slog.
As a life long Democrat, I ventured into a Republican's space for a change of pace, another view point. What I found was rhetoric , rhetoric and more rhetoric Same as all of the other politicians. I had hoped that with such a bold title I would get more than a history lesson . More than a reading list. I would think that someone with such purported insights and knowledge would have some concrete ideas to share about fixing the problems that plague the communities, since he bothered to put pen to paper.
Full disclosure, I bought this book but I didn't read it, and I really wanted to. I think we need books like this written by conservative and/or libertarian black Americans. My problem with it was the sourcing is beyond terrible. Owens pulls information from what are basically random websites even including Wikipedia. I'm shocked tgus book escaped an editor.
I would recommend this book to junior and senior high students. It is a good jumping off point towards the writings of Thomas Sowell, Dr. Carol Swain, and others. I would have liked to see more documentation via original resources instead of references of sources citing the original source. I did appreciate the different perspectives from other authors in their entirety.
I feel 100% unqualified to comment on this book other than to say I’m glad I read it, because it is a very progressive, outspoken, and surprising portrayal of history.
I would love to know what others think of this book, I am going to seek outside reviews, and I am not fond of the title at all.
It definitely strays from the generally accepted narrative of what is going on with race in America today. Personally I think that's a good thing.
It misses on a number of occasions when the author makes bold claims that might be accepted by traditional conservatives but don't quite hit the evidencial requirements of academic or skeptic audiences, but the overall narrative is still at least interesting and consistent.
I read this along side The New Jim Crow to offer an alternative view. The New Jim Crow meets academic and skeptic needs, but falls back on generally accepted progressive assumptions - so they're very similar books taking the same results (race differences in America today) and creating a narrative that fits their political views via data selectivity.
Definitely worth reading side by side, but not very useful by itself unless you already hold conservative views of race and just want to hear it from a black man.
I think it's going to take an understanding of both narratives to progress from where we are today.
