The Original Harmless Five #1

A Little Harmless Sex

Rate this book
She's always been my complete opposite, and now I think she might be the one woman I need.

Anna has been my best friend since grade school. Then, she was just a nuisance who followed me around. Now she’s sexy and sarcastic, and nothing like the women I usually date. Sure, more than once I’ve thought about what she might be like in bed…how her flesh might taste. It doesn’t mean I’m going to give into those desires.

At least, that was before my fiancé dumped me and Anna tossed off her latest boy toy. A night of eating and drinking to celebrate our single status turns into a night of all kinds of debauchery.

Once I’ve had her in my bed, I realize I’m addicted. She’s the only woman for me—but she has other ideas. She doesn’t exactly believe in happily ever after.

Anna might be skittish, but there is one thing she doesn’t understand about me.

When it comes to love, I always play to win.

So much wrong with this book I don't even know where to start. If you took a shot every time the author used the word "turgid" (not sexy ever), you'd be drunk before the first third of the book was over. Breasts don't swell up unless lactation is involved. So much anatomy fail I wondered if the author had ever had sex before she wrote this. The main characters were supposedly high powered business owners, but they acted like spoiled children. Then there were the words that do not mean what the author thought they mean (hurdling is a track and field event, not something that happens during sex). I don't know about you, but I've never seen a vibrating penis. Every cliche you can think of (except pregnancy, thank the maker) rears its ugly head in this book. Jarring transitions, vital plot moments happening off camera then explained later instead of being shown - it's just a big sloppy mess. How did this get rated so high? Did an editor even look at this?

The one thing that saved my Kindle from the wall was at least she didn't use a lathe on any body parts. Thanks for that. Wow.

I really enjoyed this book! It was fun and sexy, however it also had a good story line, along with some smokin chemistry between the two main characters; Max and Anna.

Max and Anna are best friends... everyone thinks they are perfect for each other, except themselves. Anna secretly thinks Max is hot, and Max has always had the hots for Anna, but they are always seeing other people. All that changes when they both break up with their significant others at the same time. When they decided to console each other with margaritas and mexican food and Annas house, too many margaritas turn into a night of hot, hot sex for Anna and Max.

When Anna wakes up the next day, she is horrified! She fears she's ruined her friendship with Max... and she never lets any boyfriend get serious, so she has to figure out the best way to keep him at arms length.. well Max has other ideas!

Max is determined to win Anna over so that they can have a serious relationship... but if he tells her that, she will run away screaming! Max has to convince her that they belong together without Anna finding out what he's up to!

Really fun read, really hot sex! I recommend picking it up for a quick escape ;)

I have mixed feels about this one. It started out really good for me. Anna the free spirited small business owner is someone I admire. The fact that she doesn't have serious relationships totally makes sense. Given her past experience with Freddy the F-head, I can understand. Max is pretty hot. His drive and all together control is something I like too. The fact that they are best friends who fall for each other, very sweet and up my alley. The first third of the book was dead on for me. From there it started to go downhill. The contrived conflict in Anna's heads was plain stupid for me. If Max is her best friend, she should know better. I guess it's true when they say love makes people stupid.

I have been told this is a BDSM book. I beg to differ and have reclassified as sugarkink. There is a bit of bondage and nothing else. I recommend this book for people who love best friends becoming lovers. If you are reading it for the smutty aspect, this is not the book for you. If you are reading it for the BDSM, this is definitely not the book for you.

Another solid romantica/erotica novel (although rather short) from Shiloh Walker, "A Little Harmless Sex" is a story about two best friends who become lovers.

Max knows everything about Anna. They've been friends since she broke his nose at age six. Although he's had a few hot fantasies about her, he feels uncomfortable lusting after someone he thinks he should see as a little sister. When his fiance dumps him and he only feels relief, he and Anna get together for a night of commiseration.

Anna has had some pretty good fantasies about Max as well. Of course, with her reputation she has no intention of ruining their friendship with sex. Until, that is, they both find themselves single and a little TOO happy on tequila, and...well, some rules are just made to be broken!

Good story, hot sex.

Ok you finally have sex with a hottie who happens to be your best friend and you have been lusting after since forever and he tells you:
“I should have known you’d be shaved.”

What the hell you had imagined it would be like???The Amazon??...

That's the 2 stars for.

As a fledgling romantica reader I'm thinking I'm going to have to wade through a bit of mediocre smut in order to find the good stuff.

This book is more the former than the latter.

The story here is one of long-time friends finally acting on feelings that have been there for years. Normally I love this trope and there was potential here for this to be a really good read. Unfortunately, I didn't feel like the author had the chops to carry it off. Some of the characters and their purpose in the book needed some work (ex-fiancee and her father, I'm talking to you) and there was some pretty important telling that should maybe have been showing. And, finally, I know this is "erotica", but the constant description of her creamy juices gushing and running over her lips made me want to give her the name of a good gynaecologist.

Still, I liked Anna and Max, and I've wasted more time reading crappier books than this one.

2.5 stars, it was ok.

I like the way Melissa writes, but there isn't a lot to this story. It's a nice romantic tale of love and sex, but there isn't anything that really makes it stand out.

Boring plot, unlikable leads, and racial slurs make this a no

Max has loved Anna his whole life but hasn't been able to do anything about it. Anna's always owned her sexuality. So when their both single for the first time. They decide to indulge in a little harmless sex. Except that isn't want max wants and he's going to change Anna's mind if it's the last thing he does.

So where do I start? The plot is really just kind of there. I could predict the twists from a mile away and was disappointed with them. Horrible ex from Anna's past showing up to reveal her vulnerability. Check. His ex showing up for some slutshaming? Check. Beta male lead going all alpha male? Check. Yeah.

Then there are the leads. I liked Anna initially, but as the story went on I liked her less and less. Her sex positivity was revealed to be a front and that bothered me on a lot of levels. Max was a controlling ass who couldn't bear to lose face. He's a Nice Guy... In all of the worst ways. The fact that he couldn't tell Anna he loved her until she said it first put me squarely against him. His treatment of his ex fiancée didn't help matters. As for the ex... She's the heroine in the next book but the author has portrayed her as a spineless, vindictive woman. That is not someone I'm interested in seeing more of.

Then we get to the racial slur portion of the book. PoCs are routinely indicated as having coffee, mocha, and chocolate skin. And the g-word was used to indicate a style of dress... Something which the Roma people have asked to stop.

I won't be reading more from this Author...

This was a short sweet & very sexy read. U get alot of story for such a short amount of pages. Which is good. U get a feel for the types of people Max and Anna are and how their long standing friendship and personal beliefs & fears would make them getting together not only believable, but would have u rooting for it happen. If you are looking for a quick heartfelt, sexy read then I would recommend this one.

This was a surprisingly good read. I thought Max and Anna were genuine, likable characters. Their affection for each other and the obstacles they faced were very believable. The sex was pretty steamy and I was rooting for them to get their HEA. I'm looking forward to reading the next in the series.

I'm not sure where to start with this one. This was all over the place for me.

The whole Max/Cynthia thing was ridiculous. Let them break up and be done. Adding her back in a couple different times to use as angst just didn't work in this story. Not to mention, I have no desire to read an actual book about her either. And then the crap she pulled towards the end?!?!??! But now the next book is with her and Max's best friend? Yeah, that is not selling me on this series at all. Put Chris with someone else.

I'm not sure what this book was supposed to be about other than two best friends that have secretly loved each other. They don't deal with any issues between them. They break up with their people and then immediately have sex and that's it. They have sex over and over, talk about who's in charge, but there isn't really a "story" to get into. There's little things shoved in here and there, but then they just have sex and inner thoughts and it's over.

I'm glad I didn't pay for this, and not sure I will be paying for any more of the series. We will see...

Still, just as hot, just as emotional, but with more! The 20th Anniversary edition is expanded and updated, and what couldn’t be better than more Max and Anna? These two are seemingly opposites, friends forever, and circumstances have them single at the same time. They both know they’re messing with fire, but the heat will not be denied. All the emotions they’ve been burying comes to the surface, but old hurts, and ingrained habits keep putting up road blocks. It can definitely be annoying when your friend knows you inside and out, so you can’t pull anything over on them <3

What can I say but thank goodness for Amazon Kindle free reads that allow me the genuine pleasure of finding a fast, fun, sexy book to devour in a day's reading!

I love the premise of two people who have been friends since very early childhood, been confidantes since early adulthood and at a certain point in their lives discover that those feeling have become something so much deeper and richer than mere friendship for one another!

Anna is a very liberated forthright 28 year old woman living in a small Georgia town who has learned to keep her heart protected but enjoy her sexual escapades whenever she can!

Max is running his families business after returning in his early 20's to take over from his father and is Anna's best friend...

The two have always had the ability to connect intellectually and there is no shortage of fun when they are together, however their definition of fun takes on a whole new meaning when they both find themselves unattached and act on the mutual attraction they have been denying for over 10 years!

This book has quite a bit going for it, a wonderful sexy male lead and a very sensual and together female counterpart... The story lines go from present to past experiences seamlessly allowing the reader a chance to dip into what makes Anna and Max tick and also explains what leads up to their explosive pairing up!

I enjoyed watching these two dynamic people work their way through the relationship, from being friends to being lovers to finally admitting to being in love and wanting nothing more than to spend their lives together making each other happy!

The best part about reading this story was the fact at the end not only did I have a smile on my face but I have found an author new to me that intrigued me, gave me a wonderful sexy love story and convinced me to even like Max's ex-fiance Cynthia by the end of the book...

I am looking forward to at some point reading the next book in this seriesA Little Harmless Pleasure and if I like it will continue on with the ones after that A Little Harmless Obsession, A Little Harmless Lie, A Little Harmless Addiction!

Max and Anna have been friends their whole lives and each have been harboring a crush on the other since a harmless little kiss while Anna was still in high school. However, their whole relationship changes after they have a little too much to drink while commiserating over their recent break ups. And what looks to be A Harmless Little Sex ends up tossing everything Max and Anna thought, out the window.

I love a well written friends to lovers story. And that's what we get here. Max and Anna grew up together as their parents are friends. Max is a successful business man, but perhaps a little too staid. He's coming off a loveless engagement and is just wanting to spend some time with his best friend. And Anna, a business owner in her own right, is a free spirit who hasn't had a relationship last much longer than a month -- with the exception of her friendship with Max. So, when alcohol flows freely and walls come tumbling down... well, their relationship will never be the same.

Get out the fan and be ready to use it during some very spicy love scenes. Max and Anna burn up the pages as they overcome insecurities to find their Happily Ever After. I'm totally looking forward to continuing to read Melissa's Harmless series.

And for a fun short story allowing us to catch up with Max and Anna, check out A Harmless Little Fling, a free short story from Melissa.

This was a great little contemporary with lots of hot sex. it started off with a bang and just kept delivering. The characters were believable and endearing, Max stuck to his guns and to his heart where Anna was concerned, allowing her to work through issues but not run away from them. He was a strong hero with good values when it came to women and business and that truly made him a believable and worthy hero for this romance.

Anna also stuck to her character, she didn't waffle and get all wishy washy, she knew what she wanted, but she just honestly didn't believe she could have it. She didn't go back and forth in her emotions, they were true to her character, and I appreciate that because you could really see who she was and what she had to deal with.

I don't read many contemporaries, but I might read more Melissa Schroeder because it was quick and easy, I never wanted to throw my iPad across the room, I didn't roll my eyes and there was no WTFckry. The conflict was genuine and so was the resolution. She walked a very fine line, I could feel the eyeroll coming on when the ex-fiancee showed up but it didn't quite get there.

Overall 3.5 stars, I received this book as a free download from Barnes and Noble. Go quick as of writing this it was still free. I also picked up a couple more of hers because they were on sale for great prices, so look for those reviews...

Okay...the title lies. There is no way you can describe the amount of sex in this book as "little". *snort* From the book description I expected a one night encounter to take them on a journey of connecting.

Well they had their one night...and then banged like bunnies for most of the book. I'd say we got 50% plot and 50% smex. I enjoyed it, and the sexy scenes were really hot. The author still did a couple of fade to black scenes. Damn these two had a lot of sexual frustration to work out.

I found the resolution of the couples problems a little short. I really wanted to dislike Cynthia, who is the hero's ex fiance. She did some mean sh*t, and she came across as dumb as a box of rocks in the beginning, and then at the end it felt like she did a huge turn-around. Kinda left me wondering what the hell happened. (then I found out the next book was about her.)

But I was interested, and read through it quickly, and there was a cute story involved. Definitely a supersmut book. Good read.

Finished this book today on my Kindle. It was just under 200 pages so a little short (for me). I loved Max and Anna and how easy their frindship was. They have been friends since childhood.
I really liked how truthful and believable the story was. Anna was genuinly concered about their friendship. They have been friends for so long she was scared that them having a sexual relationship would ruin what they had previuosly. I like how Max was usually so uptight, but ince he started to date Anna, he became the man he really wanted to be. He stopeed working as hard, an more fun! I like his friend Chris, and the scenes when Anna had to bail them out of jail were hilarious.
I didn't like Cynthia (Max's ex-fiance) I thought she was pathetic and annoying so I'm not all that happy that her book is next, but I will read it because Chris is the other main character and I did like him!
Would recommend to someone looking for a short, fun, sexy read. It was a good story!

I felt like a little more time spent with the characters outside of the bedroom (or office, kitchen, living room - wherever they were having sex) would have allowed me to relate to them a bit more.

There were parts of the story that didn't just flow, it felt like it was inorganic to the characters, and I would have liked to seen more so I could connect with them.

There were a couple of times I wanted to smack the characters upside the head for their assumptions, but I was pleased that they fairly quickly came to their senses and actually talked with the other party (for the most part).

It was a quick read, and I was definitely interested in some of the secondary characters (Chris namely), so I immediately started A Little Harmless Pleasure which is his book.

Contains minimal light bondage and spanking.

Soooooo good!!! I would have given 4.5 stars if I could have. It was very sensual and sexy.

Maxwell is a slightly uptight business man who just got dumped by his fiancé. He celebrates his freedom by going to his best friend, Anna's house. She is freespirited and a little bit promiscuous. After a dinner of mexican food and margaritas, they unleash the passion they've always had for each other. Max decides he wants her for keeps and has to convince her they are meant to be. The plan mostly works until Max's ex-fiancé comes back. Then he must convince Anna that her love is the only one he wants.

I would have given 5 stars, but I thought the conflict with Anna's high school ex could have been a little more important. The book makes it sound like It was something dangerous or sinister, but it was more juvenile than anything. At least, nothing to be scarred for life about in my opinion.

I enjoyed the story line well enough. The characters were fun. These kinds of books are just for fun, nothing very scholarly about it but I have to admit the multiple spelling errors and use of certain words just made it hard to keep things rolling at times. Some words were used that don't really seem to mean what was intended and other times I just wish synonyms could have come into play. There is only so many times you can read the same word over and over without getting a little annoyed.

I typically enjoy the friends to lovers trope, but the promising blurb was a very disappointing story in reality. I never bought these two as friends to start with; how did they ever have a nonphysical relationship when they communicated so little? Why did they care for each other? Physical chemistry was all they had, and it got old. The chapters were choppy and ended abruptly. I kept reading and hoping things would get better, but the book just plodded on and on.

The concept of having a sexual relationship with your best friend was nice. However, I did not like how the book was written at all. The author kept elaborating on background even half way through the book including lengthy and irrelevant flashbacks even during sex. I did not think those we're necessary.

Coudn't connect to any of the characters. I got bored and jumped from 60% to the end and it felt like I didn't lose much. In my opinion it was too long without any real reason. The h pissed me off. I ended up not liking her at the end. The H was better. Yeah, no!!! The more I think about the h the more aggrevated I get.
At this point I don't even know if I continue the series.

About 2/3 of the way through this book I realized I didn't care anything for these characters. I read a Harmless Obsession several months back and really liked it, but this one just couldn't keep my attention. There just didn't seem to be much passion and emotion with these characters.

This is a story of best friends who get drunk and slide around between the sheets, something they've both wanted to do for ten years. Max wants more, but knows that telling Anna will scare her off, so he sets out to woo her. There's lots of hot sex and Max and Anna are a great couple.
