When a family friend is murdered, it falls to Rowen Greensmith to crack the case. The whole family is upset, and why shouldn’t they be? In Lainswich, a friend of the Greensmiths is a rare thing indeed. They like to keep as many of those in the land of the living as possible. On the other hand, they have plenty of enemies. They could certainly do with one less of those when a Stonewell shows up in town. The Stonewells have always been the natural enemies of the Greensmiths. They’re another family of witches, one that moved away from Lainswich quite some time ago. So what are they doing back now? Worse than that, Flint Stonewell is an old flame of Rowen’s. Surely he’s only here to make her life more complicated. It’s like he can just sense the fact that she and her husband have been bickering over the most minor things lately. Now she has to worry about mending her relationship on top of solving a murder. And that’s only if she can keep the rest of her family from killing Flint first. Rowen will count herself lucky if she makes it to the other side of this one. Solve a murder, try to right a family feud that goes back generations, repair her marriage, and oh yeah, find the guardian spirits that have decided to up and abandon her family at, perhaps, the worst possible time. Work is just never done when you’re a Greensmith witch. Nineth Volume of the Lainswich Witches Mystery Series. Approx. 50,000 words in length. It is a standalone (reading prior or future volumes not required to enjoy the book, no cliffhanger).
. This is a cozy, paranormal mystery series. The heroine, Rowen Greensmith, belongs to a family of witches. The townsfolk of Lainswich hold this against them.
Eric and David had quickly become household members of the Greensmith's home. Rowen's cousin, Margo, and Eric's brother, David, were romantically involved again. Yet, now she may be questioning that decision. Two ex-boyfriends show up, as well as mommy dearest with her own new version of an outlandish, significant other.
In this installment, the unthinkable happens! No one saw it coming. . . . . There is a murder that affects the entire family personally. It rocks the Greensmitths to their core, or at least you would think it would. As usual, Rowen is on the case, looking for a resolution. At first, Eric assisted in her investigation, but then he returned to his detective agency. The conclusion will change life as the Greensmiths know it.
There are a few grammatical errors. It does, however, lack a certain appeal factor. It is often difficult to follow Rowen's thought process since many clues are left out of the presentation. But all in all, it is an interesting piece of entertainment combining humor, paranormal activity, and mystery.
This book is able to stand on its own, it is a clean read, and they solve the mystery of who murdered the woman and set the scene so bizarrely. There are sure to be more mysteries in the future.
You never go very long without a murder in Lainswich and this time it's right under Rowen's nose. As always, she is determined to solve it and bring the culprit to justice. Generations-old family feuds come to light and you wonder whether old flame Flint Stonewell can really be trusted.
I can definitely attest to the fact that each book in this series can be read as a stand alone. I just had finished reading and reviewing book 1 and book 2 when I was asked to read and review the 9th book in this series! Did I enjoy it? Yes I did. Every bit as much as I enjoyed the first two. This witchy family are characters--that is for certain. Poor Rowen is about the most normal of all of them and it seems it is up to her to keep the rest of them out of trouble.
The rest of the town of Lainswich barely tolerates the Greensmiths. Reality--they are just as bad. Talk small towns and gossip and who is with who and when! Meanwhile one of Rowen's premonitions comes true and a murder occurs---and her ex fiance appears in town. He is part of the Stonewells--another witch family who no longer live in the town and are long time arch enemies of the Greensmiths. Rowen never told her husband about this period in her life--and since they were already having problems----
This is a fun read----and wait until you read what the recently deceased tells them via the Ouija board---this murdered lady was not a happy camper!

“Old Flames” Supernatural Witch Cozy Mystery Lainswich Witches Series Book 9 By Raven Snow
The Greensmith's Get Stonewalled
Rowen Greensmith and her new husband Eric are doing fairly well with their marriage. There are rough patches just like anyone else experiences. Rowen seems to be balancing between splitting her time with the Lainswitch town paper, now run by her cousin Rose and Eric's private detective agency. A juicy story comes up involving the wealthy owner of the local tv station and his wife and their rather messy divorce and various lovers that both had taken. Of course how was Rowen to know that one of the attorneys representing the wife was none other than her ex-fiancé! Well, in true Greenwich style, murder and mayhem ensue along with a long held family feud coming back to light. On top of that, the family guardians seem to have abandoned them making solving the murder a nearly impossible feat. What another great book by Raven Snow! This is the 9th book in the Lainswich Witches Series and it was amazing!
Rowen and the other Greensmiths make a grave error and manage to offend their family guardians by not showing them the proper respect. This leads to their powers being blocked for an indeterminate amount of time.
While trying to figure out how to appease the guardians, Rowen runs into her old flame, Flint Stonewell. As you can imagine, this doesn't set well with her family, or Eric.
Can Rowen and the other Greensmiths put aside their differences? Or will one of them go down for committing murder? You'll have to read to find out!!
Rowen certainly has her work cut out for her in this adventure. First, she and hubby aren't exactly seeing "eye to eye" on some of the most simple things. A family friend is murdered, and that causes discontent throughout the family. Then there is Rowen's ex-boyfriend, Flint Stonewell. The Stonewell's are enemies of the Greensmiths for ages. Can Rowen get through all this and keep her family and marriage intact? This time there was so much Greensmith drama that the whole thing comes off as scattered as they are. Most of the piece was centered on an argument between Eric and Rowen with some drama with an old flame for whom we had no backstory. The murder mystery was a side issue. Not my favorite Greensmith story.
This was a nice quick, enjoyable read. So much drama for the witches, and Rowen really struggles with her emotions. A few laugh out loud moments along the way, and real life marital strife make it easy to relate to the characters in this book.
I received an arc, and wanted to leave a review because it was so much fun to read.
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. I have enjoyed every book of this series. I have enjoyed how the characters have evolved over the course of time. I can't wait to see what happens next.
I loved this ninth Lainswich book. The three situations to be resolved blended perfectly in the story, the background of the "old flame" and Rowen's family was entertaining, and the experiences in a young marriage rang true. Great read.
I fell in love with these characters and the story just flows making a book you can't put down and enjoy so much your looking for the next one. Great Reading Everyone!
