This is the Tamil translation of The 1% Solution by New York Times Bestselling Author - TOM CONNELLAN. This book shows you how to power up your next 30 days and then keep on going at a permanently higher level. Because it's based not upon opinion, but upon solid research that's backed up with real-life examples, this book is for those who want to be better right now.
This is a simple book filled with easy but useful information that anyone can do to become 1% better in each area of his life. Reaching any goal may seem like climbing Mount Everest. If you use the 1% Solution, you increase 1% at a time, but each increase will get you closer to your goal. My favorite part of the book is the author mentions that on average, the difference between first place and seventh place in Olympic competitions is usually 1%. Therefore, the difference between exceptional and exceptionally exceptional is 1%. Here are a few other quotes I liked to give you an idea of the book. "You can't be 100% better than everyone else, but you can be 1% better at hundreds of things." "You may not win all the time, but you can have a winner's heart if you do something better today than you did it yesterday." "Not everyone can be great, but everyone can be better than they are right now." "Aim to be swifter, higher, stronger- not swiftest, highest, strongest."
The 1% Solution For Work and Life by Tom Connellan is by far the best and easiest advice I've come across. This title is an extremely easy and fast paced read full of tips on how to make your next 30 days the best ever. We all know that it takes 30 days to develop a habit, or that we must set goals for ourselves to enrich our lives. What Connellan explains though is how to reach your goals and improve your life, whether its relationships, work or something about yourself, and reach them in small easy steps.
Told as a story of someone actually experiencing the 1% life changing solution, you will find yourself shaking your head yes at how much sense this solution actually makes, from changing your mindset to reaching your biggest goals.
If you're looking for a guide on how to change or improve your life, look no further because Connellan has brought it all to the table in a simple and easy to follow format. You won't be disappointed.
My Thoughts: This is a great book to start your New Year reading. Connellan does a great job motivating and giving tips, many of which we've all heard time and time again, but I like the way he doesn't force the concepts onto the reader. The premise of improving your life by making small changes is nothing new. Connellan does a pretty good job simplifying the concepts but perhaps just a tad much for my liking. I do, however, feel Connellan's 1% Solution for Work and Life would make a delightful presentation and imagine Connellan incorporates the concepts into his business and life skills seminars. The 1% Solution For Work and Life would make a great read for a new manager or a college or high school student.
1) Always do better than yesterday. 2) Increase 1% improvement in your work... If your goal to become an actor then just improve 1% in your acting in a day/week/month just 1% 3)focus on 1 goal at a time. 4) Sleep well at least 8 hours 5) Take a break after 90 minutes for 10 minutes 6) Example-: All Olympics player's position of 1st between 4th player is no more than 1% means you can achieve a lot by increasing 1% improvement in your life. 7) If want to make your good habit permanent then repeat your habit at least for 30 days.
A trite and mercifully brief attempt at a self-help book. The format is a thinly-disguised ripoff of David Chilton's The Wealthy Barber and the content a patchwork of sociological research and anodyne catch-phrases. This has been done-- and done much better -- by a host of others.
A lot of familiar concepts - goal setting, 80/20 etc but told as a story. Ending was a bit cheesy but understand the author was trying to recap the lessons
A good, quick read for anyone looking to make some work/life improvements
To a psychological nerd, this book can seem pretty corny. You can see right through the efforts of break down and repetition. Once, I started looking past that aspect into the actual message of the story, it was much more valuable. The principles are presented through one man's story which was so simple and linear. This model allowed the reader to focus more on concepts than on trying to follow the story line. The theories were awesome and totally applicable to life. I definitely felt more upbeat and positive after. It also was a very quick read which is always something to appreciate. Well done. I am excited to pass some of these ideas on to my friends and family.
"The One Percent Solution is about trying every day to be a little better than yesterday" (145). Based on some well-known psychology. Closely related to the kaizen approach to change and productivity.
While the storyline is fairly corny and some of the research conclusions are outdated, this book lays out a simple and effective plan for reaching your goals and improving your life.
I recommend this book to almost everyone. People that work for me, friends, etc. the way this story is told really makes it simple to show how to compound your personal growth and makes it seem more possible. It's an easy read and should be read again and again.
Motivation-->action-->motivation. Positive feedback loop. Start by taking small action. Get 1% better at 100 things is easier than 100% better at one thing.
Best part of the book was the sections that summarized the previous chapters. I actually took a picture of each of these sections to refer back to it. The key takeaway is that winners are never 100% better than everyone else. They're just 1% better at hundreds of things. An olympic gold medal winner is only about 1% faster than the fourth place finisher who gets no medal at all. You can use the power of leverage, a relatively small change in the way you do things can have an outsized effects on the results you can achieve. What can you be 1% better at? I'd open a notebook and start a list. I did.
A very easy read...almost elementary. However it gets the point across without a lot or unnecessary verbiage. It's clear and concise and gives good sound techniques and advice to help improve yourself 1% at a time. If you're at a crossroads and feel you are in a rut this book could very well be the jump start you need...but only if you are truly ready for change. I recommend this book for anyone needing and wanting change.
