On any given day, Keltie Sullivan tries to get by with the least amount of drama and strife. But when a chance encounter brings Bryce Montgomery into her life, she’s forced to take a second look at everything she’s been avoiding. Keltie’s initial reaction is to fight her attraction to Bryce. Determined to avoid the heartache and complications of a new relationship, she finds it difficult to resist his charms, and as soon as she allows him into her heart—the nightmares she’s endured for many years get worse. Plagued by a haunting and painful past, Keltie must make a tough decision. She knows her heart is strong enough to find happiness again...but is it strong enough to lose it? Will she let her past dictate her future, or will her stubbornness allow her to choose a different path? Rich with emotion and passion, G.L. Moore’s debut novel will have you wondering whether or not love is worth the risk.
G.L. Moore loves to read and write stories that make her feel any and all sorts of emotions. After studying psychology and journalism in college, she settled in Atlanta to work in a field that allows her to combine her love of business and numbers with her love of people. An avid traveler, consumer of the arts, and online shopping addict, G.L. enjoys soaking up experiences and crossing items off her bucket list. Refusing to Fall is her debut fiction novel.
Now I may be a bit biased when reviewing this for a very good and dear friend wrote this little gem. I got to be there as this person followed a dream and went on this journey to write and get this published. I will forever admire this person and what they went through to make this dream a reality.
These characters are funny, charming, and real. Although we must have a little fantasy when it comes to certain attributes about the yummy man in the book. But then it wouldn't be good fiction, right?
I tend to see a bit of my friend's personality in the character, Keltie. And every time she said or did something absolutely witty or silly, the character came to life for me and I got a peek at how this character came to be because of my friend and her strong, admirable traits.
Reading this in the setting of Atlanta, as that has now been my home for the last 3 years, was comfortable and homey. I loved the little details about Keltie's background from Beantown, LOL. It was super adorbs. ;)
I can't wait to read more about Keltie, JJ, Bryce, and the whole gang. It was sweet and I enjoyed it very much.

Rating: 1 star - DNF @ 41%
Refusing to Fall was not as I had expected it to be - which isn't necessarily a bad thing of course, but in this case, it unfortunately was. I was expecting some cutesy read about a cynical young woman, fighting against her feelings that slowly grow from distrust to an overwhelming kind of love for the love interest. Or something like that anyway.
But that's not exactly what I got. Firstly, the speed where Keltie, our MC, starts 'having feelings' for Bryce, the love interest, feels ridiculously fast. They've met twice until she loses a bet twice, resulting into unwanted dates between the two - Keltie is absolutely aversed to dating - but on the second date she starts to suddenly really like him and not just because he's "deliciously handsome" (gag) but he seems to "see right through her" after having spoken to her twice or something.
We also get some drama between Keltie and her job, and her father and goodness it was just so. Lame. I know, this sounds harsh but honestly??? This book is 360 pages long (I got to 41% so I've read, roughly 150 pages?) and I have been BORED the whole freaking time - except the prologue. I liked that. But the rest? Yeah, no.
Moreover, our MC Keltie is pretty unlikable in my opinion, reading her POV annoyed me quite a lot. Firstly because it often felt like she was around the age of 18 - I honestly thought she was that but then they were talking about how some of them were nearly 30, married and with kids, which left me flabbergasted. It's never an issue if the characters aren't around my age, really, but when they aren't yet act like they are then it does become a problem. Also, the things Keltie thought sometimes were completely ridiculous.
"I've watched him choose to date some incredibly wrong women - annoying, small-minded, fighting an eating disorder, you name it" uhM EXCUSE YOU how does fighting an eating disorder qualify someone to be a "wrong" person? HOW can being annoying and small-minded be categorised with fighting a freaking eating disorder???? (this was where I DNF'ed)
All in all, I did not enjoy Refusing to Fall, even though it had quite some potential.
Ever read a book that has characters and story that leave you thinking, "Whoa?". This book is one of them for me. Keltie is super strong. There isn't much this woman hasn't experienced in her short life, and I am amazed at how she's handled it. Besides being super strong and super secure in what she wants, I love how much she cares for the people she's let into her life. It obvious she would do anything for them and vice versa.
And what can I say about Bryce? He's swoon worthy. Even though there isn't a lot from his point of view, the parts that are really helped me understand him and his motivation better. If there is anyone who has a chance at storming the ramparts built around Keltie's heart, it's him, and I am so looking forward to him do so!
I got this book as an ARC from NetGalley in exchange of an honest review. It took me so long to finally get to reading it and I regret it oh-so-much.
I'm so in love with this book. I love reading books that portray a broken character and that one person who changes everything.
I fell in love with Sparky and Bean.
Bean is the most sarcastic, most awesome girl I've ever known. Also, she's so damn strong. I fell in love with the way she managed to continue living after all that she had been through.
Sparky on the other hand is a cute, caring cowboy that I loved immensely. The way he just knows what Bean needs/feels shows just how much he cares!
I was totally freaked at the plane crash thing, but the end made me warm all over, and I had happy tears in my eyes.
This book started out really promising to be. The description made me want to read right away and the story grabbed me from the start. Keltie has had a hard life and stuff that has happened made it hard for her to trust others. She's closed herself off for love. You find out soon enough when her father, who doesn't support her, tries to push his dreams on her. She's not really happy with her chosen career path. She is offered something else, but needs to think about it. Keltie does have a great support system. I loved her best friends. They try and push Keltie out of her comfort zone, but are there for her when she really needs them. Then comes Bryce. A guy she meets on the plane home and who wants to connect, but she's not feeling it. In the beginning he seems like the type of guy who wants every girl he sets his eyes on, but this turns out to not be the case at all. He is actually a really caring guy who wants a relationship. The author's writingstyle kept this book really interesting and made me want to continue reading. The fact that she wrote from different point of views really made me happy. I love being able to see all sides of the story. This story wasn't completely it for me though. I felt that Keltie really didn't grow during the book. She lets Bryce in a bit more, but falls back into old habits and I don't get the feeling she was really trying to change. The pacing of this book is pretty slow, so when I was close to finishing I really wondered how she was going to wrap everything up in the end. Wrapping everything up didn't happen in this book. The ending was actually kind of a cliffhanger. While the pacing seems slow, the months in the book flew by and I felt that we missed a lot. And from a little searching online I didn't see anything about another book to continue. If that is the case and another one comes out I do want to read to find out how everything ends. I felt really frustrated at the end of this book.
Gonna have to call it quits - I made it 60%, but I'm just not jiving with our female character. She's broken, refuses to fall in love, but nothing I'm seeing really explains it or seems so dramatic that she can't move past it. The hero, Bryce, is a doll. He nicknamed her "Bean", because she refuses to be called beautiful, honey, sugar, etc. And the way he came up with the nickname was brilliant. I won't be rating, since I couldn't finish it.
I love getting lost in a good romance. This book took me away from my everyday drudgery and I enjoyed every moment of living Keltie's journey. I was quite surprised by the ending which left me wanting more. Get to work G.L. I'll be looking to see what happens next!
Refusing to Fall is the debut book by G.L. Moore, and what a debut it was. I read a lot of books, and a lot of both new or debut authors, as well as established authors. What struck me immediately with Refusing to Fall was how well written and well-crafted this book was, particularly as this is the first book from this author.
I really connected with Moore’s writing, and with the main character, Keltie. Keltie has had a pretty rough go at life. She experiences considerable loss at a young age, and has some pretty crappy experiences with relationships, which impacts the person that we meet when we meet Keltie in her late 20’s. Luckily, she has some wonderful and very strong friendships, who play parts as supporting characters. Clearly Keltie loves her friends. When it comes to them, she is selfless. But, she is also selfless when it comes to herself and her own happiness. She makes decisions that prevent herself from ultimate happiness, which over and over again made my heart hurt.
She meets Bryce on an airplane (which – without giving you any spoilers, sort of comes full circle at the end of the book - you’ll know what I mean when you get there), and there is an instant physical attraction. Moore describes Bryce as this gorgeous man who is quite possibly unattainable, but she also immediately humanizes him to the reader (and the heroine).
“His knee bounces nervously next to me as he checks his phone. The image is jarring. This well-groomed, well-dressed strong-looking man has a nervous tick. And in that instant, it is as if I can see his soft underbelly. I’m no longer as put off as I was before.”
Moore gives us insight to Keltie’s past through her dreams and nightmares. I actually would have appreciated even more development of her past, which clearly shaped her present. And through those dreams and nightnares, we understand why Keltie does not want to commit. But Bryce is a formidable opponent, and however hard she tries to protect herself, little cracks in her armor begin to appear.
My only criticism of this book is the ending, which cause me to hold back 1 star in my overall rating. However, my dissatisfaction with the ending did not in any way hinder my enjoyment of this book, and you should not be swayed by this either.
I see big things for this author if she keeps writing stories like this. I’d love to see a continuation of Keltie’s story, or a book centered around her best male friend, Jacob.
Book provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.
Why do I keep reading book that are set in Atlanta? I’ve never even been to Atlanta- save for the airport. I feel like I know Atlanta now, especially after reading Refusing to Fall. Anyways, Refusing to Fall was a beautiful book. The dialogue was witty and creative, and the plot made sense, as well as the layout of the book, with names of the different months helping to create a cohesive timeline. That doesn’t always occur, and with Refusing to Fall it was extremely helpful. Character-wise, I felt for Keltie and her struggles. While I have never gone through anything to the magnitude that she has, the author, GL Moore, illustrates this beautifully. She gives the necessary details, and wonderfully communicates Keltie’s various trust issues. The supporting characters, as well as the love interest, Bryce, are also written well. While Moore could have slightly elaborated on their backgrounds, the details that were present were sufficient. My only complaint is the ending, which is why Refusing to Fall garners four stars instead of five. It set up for a sequel, but I felt that the story would be too dragged out with one. Overall, I highly recommend Refusing to Fall: it’s perfect for a fast-paced beach read that will make you smile from end to end.
*Read more of my reviews at Whoo Gives A Hoot* Refusing to Fall by G.L. Moore takes readers on an emotional journey of a young woman's troubled past...
As this is the author's debut novel I decided to read reviews before diving in...I was a little concerned by the mixed review, but I decided to give the book a chance because I am all about supporting debut authors! I have to say that I was surprised by some of the DNF comments and I couldn't agree less with some of them if I tried. Sure everyone has their own opinions and that is what makes this book community unique.
The reason I decided to give this book a 4 star rating instead of a 5 star rating was because although the prologue immediately hooked me in...the first couple of chapters were a little slow moving for me, but before I knew it I was hooked again and wanted to know what the ending would hold. This story gave me that gut-wrenching emotional feeling and I loved the author for taking her readers on that journey.
I would certainly read from this author again in the future!
Keltie has been through a lot of pain in her past so she goes through life trying to avoid drama and anything uncomfortable. On a chance flight back from a work trip she meets Bryce who makes her second guess everything she has been avoiding for years. She soon finds out that Bryce has recently moved to Atlanta and has become friends with some of her friends. She is attracted to Bryce but is afraid to let down her guard as she has been burned before.
Will Bryce be able to chip away at the emotional wall Keltie has built? Will Keltie be able to let go of the past and let Bryce in?
I found the book a little slow to get started but the more I read the more I got into the story. Was eager to find out what happened. This was a good debut novel and I will watch for more to come from Ms Moore.

3.5* As much as I liked this book, sadly I didn’t love it.
I think it's because I struggled to resonate with Keltie, the main character. I don’t know why? Or what it was? I didn’t get that, click with her.
I did, however, enjoy reading about Bryce and JJ. I especially loved the way they both care for Keltie. They soften her harder edges, but it’s clear from early on her self esteem is lacking in many areas. I didn’t dislike her character, not at all, and I understand how past experiences can reflect how you may see things or act in the present.
I’m not sure if this book was meant to be part of a series or a stand-alone?
Was it a cliffhanger, is there another book? Or was Keltie’s epiphany where this story ends?
I’m still not sure, so the question is if there’s a second book would I read it? Yes, I would.
Refusing to Fall was an easy to read, and get lost in type of book. It brought to mind the works of KA Tucker, and Colleen Hoover somewhat, so if you've liked their books G.L. Moore is another author to add to your list.
Keltie is a twenty-something who has endured more than her fair share of heartbreak and disappointment. She has sworn off love when she meets Bryce on an airplane home from Texas and despite their instant connection doesn't think she'll ever see him again. How wrong she is, and the rest of the story slowly unfolds Keltie's past and her developing relationship with Bryce.
Refusing to Fall by G. L. Moore is a story of love and the ups and downs of falling in love. While Keltie is a strong woman she has had a rough life that makes it difficult with not only trust issues but love too. Bryce loves Keltie and is so patient with her – you can’t help but root for him to win her over. The twist and surprise at the end of the book is realistic, although one we as a reader make not like. Ms. Moore wrote a very good book I’m sure her others will be just as excellent as this one.
This isn't your normal romance.. its not a book where they meet, fall in love and live happily after. Keltie has had her share of heartbreak. She has been hurt by family and guys she dated. She's very guarded and refuses to fall in love. She meets Bryce on a plane and fate steps in. He suddenly enters her world and it throws her off kilter. I totally felt sorry for Keltie, she's been with some real assholes, who just used and abused her. She got her heart broken a lot. I was really hoping Bryce could break the cycle but with new changes happening it was to much. I felt so bad for Bryce, he was all in with her. He was patient, sweet and very charming. He knew his way around the bedroom. This book was really good but I upset with how it ended.
I love the main character's name: Keltie. It's so cute! The story though, is very slow moving to me. But writing is great! What Keltie has gone through in her young life, is written well and will resonate with you. I'm excited for the second book. Bryce seems to genuinely love Keltie. The characters surrounding her are also very caring people. I would love to read about J.J.! I hope he gets a book!
Wow... I REALLY enjoyed this book! There were many facets to the story and I really liked how the backstory of the main character was introduced using dreams. There were a lot of realistic issues throughout the book, and I felt that Keltie dealt with them in ways one would expect. I loved the pacing of the story, done in a way that made me want to keep reading to see what happened next. For a debut novel, I am really impressed! I hope that there will be more stories about Keltie and Bryce!
Im not sure how to review this book. I loved how the author wrote this book but I was left wanting more wasn't thrilled about how it ended. I thought the main characters were great the the story was wow...The things that came up you didn't expect and I liked being kept on my toes.
First time authors debut novel is well written, flash backy through dreams and nightmares, love story. Bean irritated me and enchanted me. Her protagonist was lovingly written, given depth. Hated thee ending. Period. Which is why its four star in my estimation. Ending a big disappointment to me, having tried to connect with Bean. Loved him, not so much her. Recommended reading.
I really liked reading this story it was interesting. This girl went through some things and was scared to let some one in. I was emotional reading it!
Very off putting plot lines with little or no character development. Kelsie declares she doesn't date and through a series of nightmares and flashbacks we find out why but do we really?! The nightmares and flashbacks are confusing and off-putting at times because they interrupt the flow of the story especially the part about mean notes being left. She never really grows as a person and is really quite annoying. I only finished because I was hoping something would happen or there'd be a come to Jesus moment for Keltie but alas no...
*Special thanks to NetGalley for providing me with Refusing to Fall in exchange for an honest review*
Keltie is on her way home from a business trip when she meets Bryce - a tall, handsome, blue-eyed Texan who, for reasons she can't imagine, has decided to talk her up.
At the conclusion of the flight, Bryce asks for her number and Keltie is adamantly opposed to sharing it. Who is this handsome stranger and why is he so interested in a girl with thick thighs and pale skin, she wonders.
Determined to forget the handsome Bryce, Keltie goes about her life as usual. She works hard at a job she dislikes for a man who hates her, meets up with her selfish and manipulative father and his new (secret) wife for dinner, then recovers with friends over drinks. Rinse, wash, repeat - until Bryce appears at a friend's poker game as a new regular.
Bryce wants to get to know her and makes his romantic intentions clear from the beginning, but a dark past has left Keltie jaded and unable to allow herself to love.
As things intensify between the two, the reader begins to wonder if Keltie's bad relationships in the past were merely the result of an inadequate vetting process on her part and not, as she is wont to claim, the result of bad luck.
Then we learn more.
Keltie's past is littered with verbal and physical abuse from those who should have been her protectors and most trusted confidants. Can she allow herself to love again or will the past remain in the shadows of her present?
"Refusing to Fall" receives 3/5 stars for its genuine characters, psychological realism and interesting plot. What brings it down are the constant referrals to past pains without the revelation of real growth from those times. Why is Keltie still the same broken woman throughout the story? Why, even with therapy, is she unable to see that not every guy is the same? Particularly since her roommate is the very epitome of the proverbial "good guy."
There wasn't enough character growth for the book to receive full marks and the constant dredge of Keltie's negativity became tiresome.
This is my first book from this author. Keltie is a paralegal with a crappy boss. She meets Bryce on an airplane, then again through friends. Her roommate, Jacob/JJ secretly has a crush on her, but she doesn't know it.Sarah is a therapist and another of Keltie's best friends. Apparently Keltie has had a bad childhood. Her dad left when she was young, her mom was an alcoholic, but died when Keltie was a teenager. Because of her horrible past relationships with men, plus her bad relationship with her parents, Keltie doesn't trust many people, and doesn't believe in love.
I think that if Keltie was a real person, she would be diagnosed with PTSD and bipolar disorder. She's happy and loving one minute, that next she shuts down completely. She's also a whiner. Her boss hates her, she has an option to start her dream job, but turns it down, all the while still complaining about her boss. She and Bryce start dating, burnished vehemently refuses to see it as a relationship. She's hot and cold with Bryce, to the point where I had slung my kindle down a couple of times because I was disappointed or actually pissed off at the decisions she was making, especially when it came to her job or Bryce. This book ended somewhat in a cliffhanger. I'm on the fence about reading the following book, but I really want Keltie to realise what she has when it comes to Bryce. If he was a real person, women would stand in line to get his attention. Bryce, Jacob, and Sarah earned this book the third star.
I reviewed this book for Kylie's Fiction Addiction.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange of a review. I'm giving an honest one right here. This book has so much potential. I even have a good feeling when I read the synopsis, hence I signed up for a free copy. Once I start reading the book, doubts also started to creep in my mind. The start where they met on the airport and was seated beside each other was interesting but after that, it became too dragging. Too much flashbacks, and too many pages were used on each flashbacks (or it feels just like that). Both, I think, were not that necessary. I understand though that the author wanted to emphasize that the heroine had experienced too much to justify her too jaded view on life. Her mother is dead. She has three significant ex boyfriends who were jerks. One who has a sick mind when it came to intimacy, one who just disappeared and a fiance who cheated on her. And on top of that all, her father, whobwas supposed to support annd care for her, only tried to manipulate her life. But there's this guy who came from a loving family, who will try to break down her walls and make her believe in love again. But well, I didn't reach that part because I stopped reading it. And I don't regret it. There were times when I think this would just be a 2-star book and in some parts, I feel like I could give it 3 stars. So I just settle for 2.5 stars. I'm at the chapter 13 when I stopped but based on how dragging it is, I feel I've already read 25 chapters. This book has so much potential though if only each page of this book has been used wisely. A book doesn't have to be too detailed to make the story appear "real" to the readers.
Keltie Sullivan is a paralegal and trying to get over her difficult past. She is roommates with Jacob Joachim, whom she met in college and moved to Atlanta with her.
When Keltie meets handsome Bryce Montgomery on a flight back to Atlanta, she is very attracted to the man but is not interested in anything more than a casual relationship. When the two bump into each other again the two begin to spend more time together but Keltie still does not want more.
Will Keltie allow herself to heal from past incidents and move on with Bryce or will she push him away to keep her heart safe?
I liked this book but I found parts of it a little frustrating. I liked Keltie but wish that she was taking care of herself more and seeing a therapist to get through the tough times as it was obvious she was still suffering from her past. I would have definitely liked to see some growth with her in that aspect as I think it would have warmed me up more to her.
I liked Bryce and found he had a lot of patience for Keltie and he definitely put up with a lot. He worked hard and was focused on his work as well as Keltie. He knew that there was a lot going on with Keltie and had to be patient until he had enough of her trust so she could tell him what had happened in her past.
One of my favorite characters was Jacob and I really hoped that he would confess to Keltie how he felt about her as to me personally I thought he had feelings about her.
The ending kind of left you hanging and I wasn't sure what really happened. I don't know if the author is planning on writing another book or if it just ends like this.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review. First and foremost I appreciate the opportunity to read this book, and I loved the writing style of the author but I just did not love the book. I liked the book well enough to finish it, but quickly regretted it when I realized it ended in a cliffhanger of sorts, which I hate and there was no information about a sequel. While I liked the idea of the plot of the book and the quality of writing and I did not like the fact that Keltie, (the main character) had no growth throughout the whole book. Throughout the whole book Keltie talked about her issues and her past, but made no effort to try to change her situation or improve her quality of life, even with the amazing support system she had. I liked The other characters well enough, but honestly speaking J.J was my favorite character because he was the only one who actually went after what he wanted.I honestly wanted to like this book and love the main characters but I just couldn't. I would read something from this author again simply because I love their style of writing, but this book simply wasn't for me.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I don't know what to say. It took me a while to get into this story. Kellie has a lot of baggage, it seems like she has gone through every emotion there is in a relationship physically, mentally and verbally abused. She tries to come off as a strong independent woman but in reality is not. I loved all the other characters. Bryce and J.J being my favorite. Then that ending what was that I have no words. Is there gonna be another book to this or is that it.
I tried... really hard to enjoy this book. I was just not feeling "Bean." I want to shake her and yell at her.. Nothing really explains why she is fighting falling in love and being happy. I'm over the dramatic way of life she lives.
