When meeting Sam for the first time I just loved his little face. He is a special cat and he has no idea until he meets up with other animals in the neighborhood.

His differences are written about with acceptance and his journey is illustrated with the perfect image for the mood. Captivating and empowering for all ages. I enjoyed reading this with the granddaughter.

This is a book that all children can get a lot of strength from.

Wonderful illustrations, quite colorful and attention keeping!

The story moves quickly and with the interactions among the cats, it lightly delves into the realm of self-esteem and how others can make one feel unwanted because of differences. The story also touches on how differences makes you unique and suited for different achievements.

Really good story for discussing these complicated issues with young ones. I can't wait to read it to my grandchildren.

I also like how Gloria subtly points out using our skills to do for others helps put self-esteem in the proper perspective.

I read the eBook version and it works very well as an eBook read.

The author gave me this book, and my voluntary review is above.

Sam: The Cat Without a Tail

Rating: 5 stars

This endearing story of Sam, a cat without a tail, is one that children will enjoy. That enjoyment is the criteria of a well-done children’s book.

The captivating illustrations by Kristina Tosic enhance the story, showing not only the actions, but the emotions.

Alex’s Mom brought home the kitten to him. He immediately named his new friend Sam.

“Seeing the new kitten, Alex’s big brother Richard burst out laughing. Pointing at Sam, he said, “he has no tail! All he has is a stub of fur. He’s a ‘stubby.’”

Confused, since he has always looked like this, Sam goes to Alex who he knows likes him. After a few days, however, when Sam first ventures into the backyard, the other cats he meets make him aware of how he is so different from all the other cats who have beautiful tails.

The story continues with his sadness at the awareness of his difference but is turned around after an incident with a visit from Aunt Marsha teaches Sam how his difference makes him special.

After the story is an explanation of Manx cats, which is what Sam is, as well as information for parents and caregivers to support children in the development of their self-worth.

This Academics’ Choice Awards winner will be a welcome addition to every child’s library.

Sam: The Cat Without a Tail by Gloria Lintermans

Sam: The Cat Without a Tail is a beautiful story with a strong message for children that everyone has different qualities, so we don't have to compare ourselves with others.
Alex is so happy to get a new pet as a gift, a Manx cat Sam.
Sam looks different from other cats as he has no tail, and whenever he goes outside the house, other cats and dogs make fun of him.
So he decided to stay in the house with Alex because he always adores him.

I was given a copy to review.

This is the first hardcover children book I have reviewed. It reminded me of the Dr. Seuss books I used to read.

If you would like a book to help teach your child about self-esteem this book is for you. Sam, a kitten, finds himself with his newly adopted family and a boy named Alex. He then meets other cats in his backyard, a Persian cat, and two tabby cats. Sam knows they’re different from him and that makes him feel bad. I mean Sam is the only cat without a tail. Things change when Sam meets Aunt Marsha. You learn how this meeting improves Sam’s self-esteem. You’ll also learn some other ways to improve your own child’s self-worth. A great book to read at bedtime or any time. The illustrations are also really great.

I was looking for a new book to read with my niece, she is 3 years old and loves animals of all kinds, and is particularly fond of dogs and cats. So 'Sam: The Cat Without A Tail' by Gloria Lintermans seemed like a good choice. It follows adorable little fluffball Sam, a cat who doesn't have a tail like all the other cats. Sam learns to love himself and embrace his differences, and it makes for such an uplifting and warm children's story and a character that they are sure to fall in love with.

My niece just loved the story and I think it teaches her an important lesson just as she is about to start nursery. She now understands, with help from this adorable book (with amazing illustrations by the way) that being different is a good thing, and you can really benefit from spending time with people who are not exactly like you are. I hope she uses the lesson in this book to make lots of new friends at nursery.

Sam, a precious cat with just a fluffy puff of a tail, was adopted into a new home. But soon after, to his supreme embarrassment, Sam began to experience mockery by those who looked down upon the poor, sweet cat because he had no tail. Feeling ashamed of himself, Sam began to hide from others. He didn't like being teased for being different. But then one day Sam learned that what made him unique was actually quite special, and his lack of a tail was nothing to be ashamed of. In fact, Sam learned to be proud of his tail... or the lack thereof.

Sam: The Cat Without a Tail, by Gloria Lintermans, is a wonderful children's picture book with a beautiful message of self-acceptance. Illustrations by Kristina Tosic are a wonderful addition to this delightful book. Recommended for home and school libraries, Sam: The Cat Without a Tail earns the Literary Classics Seal of Approval.

Sam: The Cat Without a Tail by Gloria Lintermans is a helpful book for children when it comes to boosting self esteem. Sam is a Manx cat, and without a tail get teased mercilessly by other cats in the neighborhood. He regains his self worth when he discovers that even though he is a bit different, he is still wonderful. This is a valuable little book that extols the virtues of tolerance, and provides an awesome example of self acceptance and awareness for children. At the end of the book there is a section that builds on these notions with actionable steps to teach self worth for kids ranging from finding ways for children to experience success to avoiding stereotypes of what is appropriate play for boys or girls. Lovely illustrations round out this helpful book. Highly recommend.

This was such a rewarding book to read with the little ones. Being read out loud to formed so many lasting, happy memories in my childhood, and I think it’s important to carry on traditions like these. Lintermans has written a book that is engaging and entertaining, and also teaches some very valuable lessons for youngsters too. I enjoyed it as well and I have no doubt it will be one I’m asked to reread quite often now.

Everyone is uniquely wonderful - a poignant read

A truly lovely book about Sam, a cat with no tail. Sam feels insecure and excluded and through the story we see what a tremendous and great heart Sam has. Valuable lessons for children. A joy to read with pictures capturing his moments of feeling alone and then Sam discovers how amazing and special he is. Beautiful.

More Than a Cat Without a Tail

Even though this is a story about Sam, the cat with no tail, it applies to all children and adults as well. We need to recogonize that it's okay to be different and to accept differences. Highly recommended.

This is the kind of book I would pick for my students when I was an educator.
A lovely story with a pressing message of belonging, friendship, and tolerance.
The illustrations sell the story. The message comes across through the illustrations.
There is one particular image of Sam alone cover in darkness with his big eyes wet which I dare you not to feel moved by it.
Ms. Lintermans book is highly recommended and I would buy it for my younger nieces and nephews.
A must read with a topical message worth learning at any age.
The fun facts about Manx cats and the caregiver's teaching self-worth guide at the end are a nice bonus.
