War is coming. The Lady of Battles will have it no other way.
Lillian and Gregory fear the demi-goddess is already moving her pawns and dark knights into place, preparing for the first strike. Earth must be ready, but first Lillian needs to ensure that the uneasy alliance between the Fae and the human military does not fail. Every ally is needed if earth is to have any hope of surviving the coming war.
As fate draws friends and enemies closer together, one new player has appeared unexpectedly—Lillian’s new doppelganger clone. She isn’t certain if it’s pure, old-fashioned jealousy or something more sinister that has her watching the newly cloned Sorceress with distrust, but the fact remains that her doppelganger’s allegiance remains mysterious.
For the good of the alliance, Lillian needs to find out if this new sorceress is on their side, playing for the Battle Goddess, or if she has an agenda of her own—one that no one can predict.
Lisa Blackwood is the USA Today bestselling author of the Gargoyle and Sorceress Urban Fantasy series. She and her new co-author, S.M. Schmitz, are also embarking upon a new Space Opera Romance series. Book one is titled, Vengeance: Warships of the Spire. It can be found in the Dominion Rising boxset anthology.
As well as writing, Lisa is also an avid gardener, horse enthusiast, and dog lover. She grudgingly lives in a small town in Southern Ontario, though she would much rather live deep in a dark forest, surrounded by majestic old-growth trees. Since she cannot live her fantasy, she decided to write fantasy instead. Freya, her ever faithful and beloved hellhound, ensures Lisa takes breaks from the computer so they can rid the garden of cats with delusions of conquest.
Another great book from Ms. Blackwood and a great new chapter in Lillian and Gregory’s story. Some of my questions were answered in this book but some I am still wondering about and new questions have come up. This series really keeps me on my toes. I can’t wait for the next book’s release. I was really happy about the way Gregory dealt with his relationship with Lillian and the Sorceress.
I recommend starting with Dawn of the Sorceress, Sorceress Awakening, Sorceress Rising and then Sorceress Hunting before reading this. The background is quite important to full enjoyment of this book. I like the writing style, the characters, the storyline and the descriptions. These may not be to everyone's taste, but I thoroughly enjoyed the story.
This continues the adventures and romance of Lillian (Dryad, Gargoyle, Sorceress, Avatar) and Gregory (Gargoyle, Protector, Avatar). The book starts with the Sorceress Lillian's hamadryad giving birth to another dryad, Lillian's clone, Daryna. The viewpoint is Daryna's. Gryton turns out to be the son of Gregory and the hamadryad/Daryna/Lillian's, which shattered sacred vows; but none of them remember how it happened or why they were not destroyed for the sacrilege. He is a fire elemental, and very dangerous; but he would be a valuable ally against the Lady of Battles. The interactions among Lillian, Gregory, Gryton and Daryna are fascinating. Anna is becoming more of a gargoyle and closely attached to Shadowlight, and Daryna accelerates the change. Shadowlight gets captured, Anna goes on a rampage, and with Daryna's help, goes to the Lady of Battles realm to rescue him. Daryna tries to convince Gregory and Lillian that Gryton is their son, and should be rescued from the influence of the Lady of Battles. To be continued...
This book was so well worth waiting for & i loved the fact that the story took up exactly where it ended in Sorceress Hunting . The Hamadryad finishes opening & Lillian's identical twin steps out & that's where things get even more crazy than usual for Lillian . With all the knowledge Lillian lacks of her past lives Daryna enters the human realm not only to help Gregory/Durnathyne protect & train Lillian but to fulfill her own secret agenda & it's a massive secret . Bonds & loyalties are tested , even friends are turned on each other . My favourite characters are now Anna & Shadowlight , i love the thought of the young Gargoyle being fiercely protected by his self appointed human guardian . As usual Lisa Blackwood leaves us begging for more with the ending of this book & i for one can't wait . This series just keeps on getting better .
This is a fabulous series, and one that has many strands going on in a complex pattern. It’s one that really requires reading the prior series’ novels to fully grasp but that’s not a terrible burden as those books were excellent. Similarly this latest chapter in the series is equally superb. It’s plot, full of adventure, thrills, lots of unexpected twists and turns and some real emotion (and even romance), is beautifully done. It’s lead characters and supporting cast, from the dryad/human (and now gargoyle) mix Lillian and her gargoyle protector Gregory on down are also superb (with particular note for newly born dryad Sorceress Daryna, who is a beautifully complex character). The war with the Battle Goddess is here and we readers are in for a true treat.
I find it frustrating when Kindle books are published when they still need editing. Dual instead of duo, passed instead of past, and “have having;” these kind of mistakes are just sloppy. Oh how I wish I could use a red pen instead of “highlight” and send it back!
Sorceress at War (A Gargoyle and Sorceress Tale Book 4)
To say this story with each book gets better and better is an understatement, a couple of twists and turns really does keep you reading and on the edge of your seat...
The drama continues in Sorceress ad War! And gets deeper and deeper with Daryna's assistance, Gryton's fiery anger and sweet Shadowlight's antics. Another good read from Lisa Blackwood.
Things couldn't get any worse for Lillian. She found out she had a younger brother and her father gets killed and her mother goes into a coma. Gregory is trying his best to keep things calm between humans and the far.
I loved reading about the Sorceress at War. Modern weapons along with sorcery combine to make an interesting alliance. But having a duplicate sorceress sure complicates things.
I'm glad I kept reading this series because the story got so much better. Cross worlds, family drama, humans getting swept up into supernatural happenings, clones.
