If Alena in Kingdom of Embers reminded me of Hope Mikaelson then Camille is definitely Lizzie Saltzman.

description

I'm happy to get 'Ivy's' point of view. But she doesn't seem to remember her childhood friends. Hunter and Alena recognized each other pretty quick. And it took entirely too long for her story to get going. It felt too much like filler. I also don't like mental illness being used for a dramatic plot device. Idk. I've gotten this far, so I'm going to pick up the next volume to see what happens.

(review request submitted by the author for an honest critique)

People, of all ages, are fixated on vampires and witches. They are moneymakers for retailers, book stores, movie theaters and add allure to some touristy spots. Admittedly, back in the day, I was addicted to cult favorites such as The Craft (1996), Charmed, Blade, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and The Lost Boys (1987). As a grown up, my love for the paranormal world hasn’t wavered a bit. Truth to be told, I have watched every Harry Potter movie (more than twice), never missed an episode of True Blood, and I always root for the evil witches/sorcerers in fairy tales.

No doubt about it… People love the supernatural world. The endless possibilities of what if certain magical beings were real and what it would be like to harness their power. For me, I think possessing the ability to levitate, control the elements, mental telepathy, and invisibility would be amazing skills to have in my arsenal. Jude and Camille really did put their newly discovered powers to great use. They were on a mission to save the witches and their respected fathers.

Before they go on the great adventure, they attend a camp focusing on helping those dealing with mental problems. Before the camp, they each thought they were just two teenagers who were delusional, schizophrenic. When you don’t realize magic is real, how else is your mind supposed to explain the unexplainable?! Visions. Hallucinations. Those are scary things for any person to face — especially a young child/teenager. Tricia Copeland tapped into those fears from a bearer’s perspective and from their family members.

After Jude and Camille realized they weren’t schizophrenic, really 1/2 witches, that’s when the real magic begins. It’s where readers will be treated to scenes where Jude and Camille learn about their powers and how to master them. We also fear they might be in over their heads.

The ending especially had me on the edge of my seat. It was one helluva cliffhanger.

In summation: Solid plot, great character development, lovely pace, and great set-up for Kingdom of Honor (book 3).

Oh and on a final note…. wait until you read whom the witches are descendants from... MIND BLOWN!

Wow! This book is amazing! The mystery about Jude, I would go back and forth on whether or not to trust him, I’m so happy he is the good guy though! Be still my ❤️ I knew not to trust the rest though. They were shady from the beginning. Yet I still found myself hoping they were the good guys though 😞 I’m looking forward to seeing where how this all plays out. Tricia Copeland is a fantastic Author and quiet possibly a new favorite of mine! On to the next…..

This second book did not disappoint! I couldn’t read it fast enough wishing to get to where she discovered her magic and meet up with Alena and Hunter. Not wanting to give up the storyline, again think of a bunch of teenagers, on a co-ed camping trip with supervision of course. Young Love interest along with magic, suspense and danger! Off to start volume 3, Kingdom of Honor!

Interesting read

I wasn’t sure where the story was heading. I think I felt what Camille felt the whole time. Once they got to the castle I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. Adding the next book to my TBR list.

Excellent with an Unexpected End

Just like book one in this series, I couldn't put it down. Kingdom of Darkness introduces you to another very important character with don't interesting twists in the end. Who to trust? Is anyone who they say they are? The end leaves you with a nice twist and even more questions. I can't wait for book 3!

I know I went MIA from reading this book but I had to take a break from reading due to.....things.
It took me a while to work my way up to finishing this book and I apologize for that.

I've missed these characters!! I've missed their world and their dedication!! But I still don't feel as connected to them as I do Alena and Hunter. I have no idea why and it kills me!

As weird as it sounds, I feel like Camille is a weak character. Like she's the little sister the group is gonna have to protect. And I know in shouldn't think that because I feel like book 3 is gonna make me regret it. Lol like she's gonna end up being the baddest b*tch in the series.
Who knows. I could be wrong. Lol

I loved this book almost as much as book one......almost.
My only problem honestly is the whole "descended from angels" bit. When religion ends up involved in a story, its off putting. (That's just me though. Others may love this idea. Its just to me, it always starts arguments and we have enough of that in the real world. Lol)

Anyway. Back to the story,
I knew that ending was coming!!!
Yet I was not prepared for it. It still took my breath and made me see stars lol.

Can't wait to read book 3 and see how it turns out!!

So many feels with this book. Camille is having these dreams that she can't seem to get rid of. But they aren't just at night time, they are also during the day. So when she finds a camp near her in Iceland that specializes in helping troubled youth, things don't seem like they should. She befriends Jude, another troubled youth with the same schizophrenia diagnosis as her. Together they figure out what they are, but it could be too late.

Tricia creates a world that you can get lost in. She writes like she is right there next to them documenting everything as it happens. I can't get enough!!

Wow this book was wonderful and very different than anything I've read. I loved the paranormal, fantasy, urban, suspense aspects of this book. Camille is a great character. She is so strong while dealing with her crazy dreams. After some searching she finds out that things ate not as they seemed and she is not the only one.

Stellar follow-up to an exciting fantasy series!

Kingdom of Darkness (Kingdom Journals #2) by Tricia Copeland is the second book in a series and cannot be read as a standalone. This is a clean YA, fantasy and may be appropriate for younger readers.

Camille has always struggled with schizophrenia. She has been to a number of doctors and her mother has moved her to a number of places to try and be as healthy as possible. She thought she had it beat since relocating to Iceland. When she began having hallucinations of her pretend childhood friends she was afraid she was backsliding. In an effort to help, her mother was able to get a prescription for the schizophrenia medication that kept her in a drugged stupor. She did some research to find an alternative to the medication. What she found was a month-long camp run by Dr. Antos. He had proven methods in the ability to heal schizophrenic patients without the use of medication.

This camp allowed her to end her medication while meeting several new and interesting people. She even began to have feelings for a boy while she doubted his identity. The more she learned, the more she began to doubt the camp entirely. It appeared to Camille that Dr. Antos may have nefarious reasons for conducting the camp.

This was a great follow-up to Kingdom of Embers. I enjoyed the fact that this book went in an entirely different direction. While the previous book was told from Elena’s point of view, this one was narrated by Camille. The reader got a glimpse of Elena and Hunter at the start of the book but this one focused on Camille and her life.

I was puzzled at the purpose of the camp at the beginning. I also wondered about the focus on other campers personalities, however, I am sure the intention is to bring them back later in the series. I would like to see more of Frida and even some of the minor characters at the camp. As the story progressed, I began to see the necessity of the camp to bring Jude into the story. Although I am still very confused, it’s in the best way possible. It’s the kind of confusion that makes me want more of the story so I can find out what will happen! I was left with another cliff hanger at the end but this was well done. Instead of making me angry, as cliffhangers tend to do, I am merely eager for the next installment. I also have to express my happiness for the way things played out with Jude. I don’t want to give away any spoilers but his character will be fun to read about in the future of the series.

I give this book a 4. I hope I don’t have to wait too long for the next book!

This is the second book in the Kingdom Journals series. Camille is the main focus of this novel. A young teenage girl battling what she thinks is Schizophrenia. She keeps having dreams of her childhood imaginary friends. But then she starts having visions when she is wide awake. She doesn't want to be put back on her medication. She will do anything to stay off zombifying meds. No one should have to live that way. After an incident she does some research and finds a doctor who is willing to try a holistic approach. She can't believe her luck when he accepts her as one of the lucky few who get to attend a workshop for several weeks in the wilds of Iceland. While there she meets Jude. Jude appears to suffer from the same malady as she does. Camille starts to grow suspicious of others including her doctor. She doesn't know whom to trust.

This book was well written. The characters are strong. The only issue I had was it started to become redundant. The day to day. Not enough action. Or mystery. I loved Camille and her story. Yet the day to day at camp was just on and on redundant. I wanted to skip forward to the end. It was too much filler not enough meat. But I do like the introduction of Jude. His character was just the push Camille needed.

I bought this through kobo after being given a copy of Kingdom of Embers for an honest review. I loved the first book so much that I bought the next two in the series. If you’re hoping to get more of Alena and Hunter you will be disappointed. This book focuses on the third person in this trinity, Camille. At first I found Camille to be a bit weak but eventually she grows stronger once she comes into her powers. I like that this book starts off exactly where Kingdom of Embers left off and we do get a small glimpse into Alena and Hunter’s lives. The challenges Camille faces makes her stronger and I grew to like her as much as I do Alena. Again Tricia Copeland has developed her characters really well and you can’t help but wish you knew them personally. This was a great follow up to Kingdom of Embers and I have already started a Kingdom of Honor, the third book in the series.

This second installment of the series is incredible. It grabs your attention from the beginning and doesn't let go till the last page. The story flows beautifully, and each scene and action is so easy to visualise thanks to Tricia's simple yet amazing writing. Camille is so likeable and you can really sympathise with her ongoing struggles with "schizophrenia". I really enjoyed the different characters at the camp and I would have liked Tricia to have built up a little more on that side of the story that features the teens' different mental health conditions but I guess, so much was going on, it would have been hard to fit it in. Regardless, I scored the first book a 4 star but this one is truly deserving of the top mark. 5 star! There's never a boring moment and I'm already a quarter of the way through book 3 which, so far, is really promising. ☺️

Kingdom of Darkness is the second installment from the Kingdom Journals series by Tricia Copeland. This is my first experience reading this author and series. I believe this book can be read as a stand alone. I loved Camille’s magical tale. I was fascinated from the start and it held my attention until the end. I thought it was a great read.

I had the pleasure of listening to the audio version of Kingdom of Darkness. I thought Amy Deuchler's performance was perfect to bringing this story to life. I loved how she told this tale. She did an awesome job.

I am giving Kingdom of Darkness four and a half stars. I would love to read more books in this series.

I received the audio version of this book from the publisher. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.

Okay book 2 tugged at all my emotions. I grew especially frustrated with Camille as I felt she gave up on Hunter and Alena much too quickly and wished she would have fought through her “pain” and let them communicate with her. But obviously that would have meant we wouldn’t have a story. I had my doubts in Jude until the end but I will say I am so glad he ended up a good guy. I am anxious to know what happens next and hoping the three best friends are finally reunited! On to book 3…

I was very much anti Camille and Jude because the entire time I thought he was secretly evil. Wish she didn’t put that thought in so early into the book so I could’ve cared a little more about their connection and potential romance.

What a phenomenal 2nd book in the Kingdom Journals Series! Kingdom of Embers was a good start to the series, but I just couldn't get into it. Kingdom of Darkness, this book. WAS FANTASTIC! This was one of the best sequels I could have ever read!

I don't want to give too much away, however I think you DO need to read the first book to get a feel as to who is who and what is going on in this book. I want to believe some of the people are good and some are evil. I guess only time will tell.

Tricia Copeland's writing has developed so much over the past 2 years! I am amazed at the thought process and what all went in to this book. I give her 5 amazing stars! Well done Tricia! Again a phenomenal follow up to Kingdom of Embers! LOVED ALL OF IT!

I love this series. Each book leaves me wanting more. The kingdom of darkness did not disappoint me. Again the storage drew me in and had me guessing. The story is well constructed, with no corse language and very little violence not going into a lot of details.
The story does end in a cliffhanger. Leaving you wanting the next book.
Narrated By Amy Deuchler does a great job. She gives each character their own voices. I suggest that you listen to the voice Sample before getting the Audiobook.

In Kingdom of Embers you met Alena and Hunter, two witches of a trinity. In Kingdom of Darkness we are introduced to Camille, the third witch of the trinity. Like Hunter, she had no clue she has magical abilities. Her path to becoming a full witch is rocky and danger presents itself at every turn. Fortunately she finds a friend, but she's never sure who she can trust.
