Pharrell Williams: Blurring the Lines

Rate this book
In 2003, Pharrell Williams was responsible for (by performing or producing) 43 per cent of all the music played on radio across the USA, and 20 per cent in the UK. His prolific and varied collaborations with scores of the best-known musicians of the twenty-first century have earned Pharrell millions of radio plays, as well as album sales, songwriter credits and dollars. In 2013-14 alone, Pharrell has enjoyed two million-selling singles (in the same month, unbelievably), for the tracks 'Get Lucky' and 'Happy' - the latter earning an Oscar nomination for Best Song. Since 2001, Pharrell has established himself as a respected, and ambitious, musician, composer, fashion designer, businessman, charity-owner and 'universalist', whose star is showing no signs of falling back down to earth.

I thought this book was a very interesting read. Pharrell Williams is a big figure in the music scene, but it is easy to miss how significant his role is without being properly shown. This book seems to serve half as a biography of Williams' life and half as a timeline of his musical contributions. This book shows nearly every single project Pharrell worked on, from production to writing to guest verses to his own albums. After reading this book, it is impossible to ignore the huge effect that Pharrell has had on the music industry and even the world. Being an unstoppable creative force, music wasn't enough for Pharrell. He's dabbled in fashion, art, television and more fields, all of which this book accurately recounts.

Took me awhile to read this book because I really couldn’t get into it.

It read like fan decided to put what he gathered from media ,music docs. I didn’t learn anything new honestly.
I gave it 3 stars due the the pics on the book and the unique cardboard cover.
