5 IT’S WORTH IT STARS!!!
I’m telling you. From the moment I first saw this blurb. I knew I HAD to have this story on my kindle. HAD. TO. HAVE. IT. There is just something about a forbidden romance that reels me in. But on top of that, add second chance romance to the mix? Well that just grabs me by the balls and doesn’t let go.
Sometimes I get so wrapped up in a story, I feel like I’m living every moment with the characters. I become attached. I FEEL what they feel. Their love. Their desire. Their sadness. Their longing. Their anguish. I just want them to be happy. This was one of those times. Fractured Love made me feel all of those things and then some. Probably about a million other emotions actually.
Landon and Evie’s love journey had me cheering for them throughout the whole story. God. The pull that these two had toward each other made my heart swell. HUGE. To see what Evie did for Landon’s heart and soul brought tears to my eyes. I was so giddy over these two and their playfulness. And the WAY that they SAW each other, not just looked at but SAW. *clutches heart* And oh god, their longing for each other had my guts all over the place. Because, it was meant to be. Right? Yeah. Well....then came the heartache. And I swear my heart shattered into a million pieces. I ached for these two to be together. I NEEDED it to happen. NEEDED. IT. TO. HAPPEN.
Fractured Love slapped me across the face with it's realness. That's saying something. So what happens? I’m not gonna say. I hate spoilers, so you won’t be getting that from me. Just know that I read this book from start to finish, it was THAT good. And I don’t bullshit. So if you see me GUSHING (this review is considered gushing, if you didn’t pick up on that) that’s MEANS SOMETHING. The way that Ella told Landon and Evie’s love story had me mesmerized with hearts in my eyes and butterflies in my guts. I really could not get enough.

Ella James is a new-to-me author and Fractured Love was a pretty good introduction. Whilst, I admit it wasn't entirely what I was expecting, it held plenty of romance, sweetness, heat and heartache between a couple whose time together was abruptly ended before it even really got started.
Written from a his and hers POV and in two parts—the past and the present—we're taken on a journey of friendship, first love and second chances. I loved how part one introduces us to a teenage Landon and Evie and despite their younger years, I was cheering them on from the start and they quickly worked their way into my affections.
“He took my heart. I’ve never found it.”
Fast forward ten years and despite all the heartache they've experienced, Evie and Landon have both become surgeons and find themselves working in the same hospital where the magnetism between them is as strong as ever bringing passion, emotion and revelations. But at the same time this part didn't have quite the overall impact of part one, with some aspects of importance feeling rushed through, and others feeling a little neglected.
“I want to be where you are. Always.”
Had that been tighter, and possibly simply a little longer, then this would have taken Fractured Love from good to great as Ella James has a writing style that was easy to get along with and she clearly knows how to give her reader characters to love and become invested in. I just thought Landon and Evie deserved that bit more, but all in all an enjoyable read which, with the exception pausing for the day job, I read in one sitting: I'll definitely be checking out more from Ella James.

Book three in Ella James’ popular Off-Limits Romance series; Fractured Love takes the ‘almost-sibling’ trope and turns it on it’s head with Landon and Evie’s story.

I won’t lie I have had very little luck with the whole step-brother romance phenomenon, and although this story is different in that Landon starts out as Evie’s foster brother, the taboo associated with their relationship back in their teens is still pretty much the same.
To have met her somewhere, anywhere, but here. To be able to touch her, talk to her, to know her, without consequences…
But I have heard and seen great feedback for this author, and decided I would make this book, my first foray into her writing.
"You’re the kind of good girl bad guys always go for."
And I am so glad I did, the story is basically broken up into two halves, the before and the after, with roughly a ten year separation between their reconnecting, I read the first half that focuses on their secret coming together in their teens with my heart in my mouth, waiting for the inevitable ball to drop, and when it did the author did not mess about, job done and we moved onto the present without a huge amount of depth or expansion as to what the pair go through after being separated.
He’s not my foster brother anymore. He’s not my secret lover. I don’t know who he is now…
There is a reason for this, which you discover in the telling of the second half of the story, I have to say Landon’s letter’s which recollect that time after being moved to another home were heart-breaking to read.
I did however take against Evie a little at this point though, because holding off telling a person the truth to keep things easy for yourself is never something that sits too well with me, and I really struggled with Evie’s motivations for doing it. as a couple they had already been through so much that lying through her teeth at the point she did just felt like one step to far to the side of selfish.
"People forget, you know? When you’re just passing thorough…"
But the plus on this is that it wasn’t dragged out, for all the drama and angst associated with themes in this book the author kept things moving along at a swift pace, with everything being dealt with on an almost chapter by chapter basis. I think this is a big plus personally, because nothing annoys me more or bores me the most than when erroneous drama is overplayed or dragged out incessantly.

So to sum up, an enjoyable read, it was my first, but definitely won’t be my last, and I look forward to seeing what this author has in store for her readers going forwards. Fractured Love was pretty much read in one sitting, and I am interested to see how the author fares over a longer page count.

17-year-old Landon just met a very interesting girl at his new school. Evie. She fascinates him.
But ... she's also his new foster sister.
Evie and her family expected a seven year old boy to move into the newly decorated Star Wars / Harry Potter room. But social services screwed up, and now Landon moves in.
Landon. The boy that - within minutes of meeting him at school - changed Evie forever. She doesn't know what it is, but she somehow knows that this boy belongs to her now.
And even though her parents are amazing, they kinda draw the line at their little girl getting too close to the new foster kid.
The Evie and Landon story might've ended once Landon had to leave the family, but fate has other plans. They'll meet again one day .....
Fast forward 11 years to present day Denver. Doctor Evie is meeting her new co-1st-year-intern at the hospital: Dr. Landon.
Let the fun times begin!!!! Because their story is sooo not over yet!!!!

I loved this story!!
The first half is an adorable and slightly heartbreaking young adult romance and then we fast forward those eleven years and the real love story can begin. With all the problems that go with not seeing each other for 10 years and everything that happened in that time. And also everything that happened back then. There's a LOT that needs to be discussed and cleared up and forgiven and forgotten.... But we'll get there.... ☺
A few decisions were a bit too ... weird maybe. I didn't like the parents' reaction - compared to how amazing they usually were. And ... just ... I think 11 years is a too long time. I would've done some things differently. BUT - I didn't write the book...☺
Also, the second half of the book was mayyybe a tiny little bit too insta for my tastes. Even though it's stupid saying insta because they've known each other forever.... but still... I wanted a bit more depth added into their grown-up relationship. It all happens really fast.
But I still loved reading it. It was cute, funny, sexy, exciting, sad and soo moving - I cried a lot towards the end!!!
Great romance - especially for those YA romance lovers who always wonder what happens to the characters once they're all grown up! ☺

I'm a relatively new reader to this author's work (this is only the second book that I've read by her, the first one being "THE BOY NEXT DOOR") and what made me eager to read this book was the author's incredible voice.
Man, this girl can write!
I LOVED the complexity and strength of Landon and Evie's characters.
How they just knew there was something special, unbreakable... forever, between the two of them.
Even at their young ages, the chemistry between them was undeniable.
They started out as best friends - confidants, constantly fighting the growing attraction and insatiable need for one another.
They know they belong to one another - body, heart, and soul and they can no longer fight what's been growing between them.
Then the unthinkable happens.
Landon is forced to leave.
Both are lost.
Both are fractured.
...Present Day
Landon and Evie find each other once again.
They've grown.
They've changed.
They both had to make impossible decisions in order to survive.
But, the attraction, the chemistry, the desperate desire for one another still remains.
She is his, and he is hers.
Landon and Evie's journey back to one another is an incredibly heartbreaking story that will have you on the edge of your seat craving for more.
I'm so glad I found this author!

Ok read. A second change of romance. The story is so so. Not too angst , no dark twisted plot. Even what Landon experience in the group house, is forced into a blur. Even when Evie secret is out, the aftermatch is.... flat. The resolution of the conflic is rushed and hurried.
I like this book OK. I wish it can be longer, darker and more twisted. But overall its OK.

Fractured Love was overall a great story. I enjoyed it but I found it lacking in some ways. The chemistry and love between Evie and Landon was undeniable but I wasn't invested in their story. I felt that part one was fast paced at certain times and I would have liked a little more detailed descriptions instead of only getting a casual play by play feeling. Part two was great but the last 20% was a little tiresome and predictable.
Landon and Evie were the reason I kept reading because of their long history together. Also because of Landon. He was beautifully flawed, yet strong and determined as hell to be with Evie and make something out of his life. He was definitely my shining star.

I am a sucker for second chances. I am a sucker for friends to lovers stories. I am a sucker for any book that can evoke emotions like FRACTURED LOVE by Ella James did for me.
Being introduced to new authors is always very exciting for me. This is a first for me by James, and I can honestly say it wont be the last. Her writing is flawless, it flows beautifully, and she really knows how to capture the essence of love on the page.
My heart broke and rejoiced on so many occasions for our two mains. Landon and Evie are an unlikely duo, but that's what made them so appealing to me. Opposites do attract, and in this case, even though they seemed like opposites on the outside, their hearts were actually molded from the same cloth.
At times, I ached for these two, while at others, I enjoyed the struggles they went through in order to find their way back to one another. True love really is just that. True. When you do everything and anything possible for the one you love. Landon and Evie had their fair share trials and tribulations, but NOTHING stopped them from following their heart. And their hearts belonged to one another.
A lovely tale, full of second chances and thought provoking emotions. I was consumed by this book and with our two powerful leads. Not for the faint of heart, but a story that will capture you in its web. It will chew you up, but spit you out whole and it was worth every word. I loved this book and am excited for more from James.

DNF at 21%
Look, I'm a sucker for second chance romances. Throw them at me, bury me with them, shove them down my throat, the 'Buy now with 1-click' button is my bestestestestest friend in the world!
However, at 21% I was still stuck with two teenagers who were talking about which Hogwarts House they'd be in. Authors, I know you love inserting pop-cultural references, thinking it'll make the story more relatable, but Harry Potter is getting old. And this is me who loves, no adores, the Harry Potter books. But it's not particularly original anymore! Neither does the author show any kind of talent creating funny scenes with this overused reference.
And I had this strange feeling, wondering how long it would take for the story to jump to the present day. Woot! Part 2! Present day: 49%?!? So I would have to spend in the heads of two teenagers for half the book?
Guess what?
I'm too old for this, and I have no patience for this. At the very least put a YA with sex or NA tag on it. Nothing wrong with that, but I would have thought twice before buying it. Besides, every now and then, I do read NA; choosing carefully now, though. Once (no, quite a few times) bitten, twice shy, and all that.
Aaaaand, off I go rereading my favourites again.

I love second chance romance but this one felt flat to me. I blame weak and overly dramatic storyline. (I have never encountered heroine who would cry so much in so few pages and overall story was quite unbelievable...)

The moment I read/saw the teaser of this book I knew that this is going to be a great read for me and surely it was! Ella James was able to captivate my attention the moment I started reading the story of Evie & Landon. It was a second chance romance between foster brother and sister.
When Landon became Evie's foster step-brother, the attraction was already there. Trying to fight it was useless and so they try to sneak in behind her parents back but of course, they are bound to get caught. And when that happened, Landon & Evie went on their separate ways. Moving forward to part II, both are now medical doctors. The tension of their first meeting and how will they react when they finally meet again after 10 years are just too much. Will they remember each other? Will they continue where they left off? Will they be able to rekindle those feelings?
It's an indescribable feeling when I reach that part of the book, I'm excited for both Evie and Landon. It's really a page-turner story and Ella James was able to execute the plotlines brilliantly. Definitely one of my favorite book this year! I highly recommend this one if you're into this kind of story.

Seriously, everything.

A damaged hero who isn't a jerk: ✓
Emotional depth: ✓
I wonder if there’s a dark version of soul mates: people meant to hurt each other. No amount of love, regret, or effort can change that now. Just like no amount of sense can keep me from him.
Fractured Love is on the shorter side, but don't let that fool you. This small book makes an impact once all is said and done. I actually prefer the length of this story because Ella didn't fill it with unnecessary drama just for the sake of making it longer. Everything that happens feels like a natural progression towards a heartfelt ending.
I'm going to keep the rest of this review vague so that others can enjoy it as much as I did. (But I will say, if you enjoyed Hearts and Thorns by Ella Fields, Fractured Love is a must-read.) Best paired with It's Nice to Have a Friend by Taylor Swift.

La seconda parte non è meno emozionante, si ritrovano dopo 11 anni, i loro sentimenti non sono mai cambiati, riprendono a frequentarsi, ritrovano la loro familiarità e complicità, quasi tutti i tasselli del passato vengono ricomposti, ma ce n'è uno che potrebbe scombinare tutto...
Mi è piaciuto, ma avrei desiderato che l'autrice avesse ampliato e curato maggiormente alcune situazioni...

Oh. My. God. I am super in love with this book!
The blurb just held my attention and I was just a goner from there. Both the MCs are going to be neurosurgeons and I assumed their back story would just be that, a back story. But I was blown away!
The book is divided into two parts. And I'm like, this is something new. And so I was intrigued and that feeling of anticipation is building within. The first part gave me a feel that I was reading a YA. I thought it would bore me, or I would hate the immaturity but I was proven wrong. I get to experience a sweet, young innocent love that is idealistic and pure. I felt in love and the feels just tug at my heart.
The second part, the characters have grown and matured into the person they've become. And ohmygad, this is where the time jumps didn't matter. I was prepared for it, and the build up and anticipation from part 1 made it so that the second part transitioned perfectly well and created a whole different kind of conflict. The characters get to mature and grow into the person they become and I feel like I'm their bestfriend for being with them along the journey. And ohemgee, hot!! The perv in me approves! Definitely two thumbs up! hahaha
But aside from the refreshing way this book was written, my love for it doesn't just end there. The second part was mostly spent in the ER, OR and the Donut Room and it felt so nostalgic for me because it reminded me of my fave Korean Dramas and omo omo~~!! Saranghaeyo! It was like I was watching Doctors, Decendants of the Sun, Yong Pal and Doctor Strangers. And my heart just sings with joy and happiness!
I think that this book was written perfectly with equal parts that even if I could research the procedures and I had to search my mind of what little I know of Thoracic Surgery and emergencies, I didn't because it really didn't matter to me. I love Evie and Lyndon and my heart was happy and heartbroken at the same time. It was left fractured but not broken. And I love every second I spent reading this book.

Dividida entre passado e presente, Fractured Love é uma história contada sob o ponto de vista de Landon e Evie e aborda não só o romance Tabu entre eles, mas também a amizade, o primeiro amor, as segundas chances e amadurecimento.
Gostei bastante, tem muitos elementos que gosto em uma história e a escrita é uma daquelas que você não larga até acabar. Só não ganhou nota total pois a reaproximação deles foi rápida e os acontecimentos do final foram um pouquinho corridos para mim. Alguns acontecimentos, frases e características dos personagens mereciam um pouco mais de cuidado da autora ao finalizar a trama.
Em um trecho por exemplo, quando Evie comenta que para a mãe dela "nada ocorre por acaso " dentro daquela família, fiquei sentindo falta de vivenciar o pedido de desculpas dos pais dela e todo o desenrolar que foi apenas narrado por Evie mas que não pudemos vivenciar enquanto leitores. Passei vontade!
Landon é aquele bom garoto pouco comum nos livros do gênero. Ele passou por diversos lares adotivos e por ter essa experiência, sabe como agir para não entrar em apuros. Ele é sensível, inteligente e leal, e por essas e outras características desperta a atenção de Evie, que também é doce, companheira e bem curiosa.
Ele é um tanto quanto comedido mas se desnuda para Evie. Eles se enxergam, conseguem ler um ao outro muito bem e fica claro que não sentem somente atração pelo outro. Esse tipo de interação entre eles na primeira parte gera um delicioso slow burn, que prende nossa atenção para seguir com a história e ver até quando eles conseguirão se conter
Algo bem legal foi a opção da autora em não tornar Landon um daqueles personagens idiotas e amargurados comuns em alguns livros envolvendo passagem de tempo e o tema perdão. Mesmo depois de tudo que ele passou, ele seguiu com sua vida e convive bem com os outros.
A forma como a autora direcionou e conduziu a história despertou aquela vontade de não parar até chegar ao presente e descobrir tudo que aconteceu com esse casal. E meu doeu um pouquinho quando uma das revelações foi mostrada. Foi algo bom para refletir e pensar nos diferentes tipos de família que podem existir.
Novamente a capa não representou com a história como o outro da série que li, mas ok.

“You’re the kind of good girl bad guys always go for.”
Second chance romances aren't one of my favourite tropes ever - I know, I'm in the minority - but then there's sometimes where I stumble upon a really well written second chance, and it changes my perspective. If you want to make me believe that these characters had a past and loved each other, you need to SHOW me! I'm a show, not tell type of gal. Pretty words won't fool me, give me proof. That's exactly what the author does in Fractured Love.
This book is rightfully broken down into two parts, part one, the past, and part two, the present (logic, I love it). Starting as teenagers, I loved every scene and detail that this author created for these characters. I fell so fast and hard into their world, I didn't care if I ever got out. And please, you can't tell me that you've never been tempted by something deemed as forbidden...
“I know—as he holds me in his hard, strong arms, as our frantic mouths wage tender war—why they call it falling.”
In a romance book, I always want to see the characters meet and ultimately, fall for each other. This is especially important in a second chance book, so don't try to skip out on the details, I'll notice! But Fractured Love felt exactly like those sweet YA books I can't help but swoon over. Troubled boy meets golden girl. Can you see how this story is going to go? Sure, you get the unlikely friends and bonding moments but it was so much more than that. I could feel Landon's struggles through the page. He almost felt haunted, in a way. And Evie, with her caring soul, jumps in head first to bring him some calm, some happiness in his tragic life. There were the monumental changes in their relationship, through car rides and soccer practices to late night conversations, but I felt every moment that the relationship shifted. The tender, the scared, the aloof, the heartbroken, the joy, all of it. And too I really appreciate that Landon didn't show up at school and become the new kid who all of the girls wanted and instantly became popular. He has his issues and he found his people but in a far from cliched, overdone way.
“Stay with me forever, okay,” he says softly. “I don’t ever want to live without you, Evie.”
“You won’t have to.”
“Never leave me.”
“Never.”
Now moving into the present day when the characters face each other for the first time in ten years. Based on how their story ended as teenagers, I was so flipping excited to see how this would go down. Would there be tears? Guilt? Reservations? Ignorance? Flippancy? THERE ARE SO MANY OPTIONS! I could've cared for a bit more emotion but ultimately like how this ordeal was handled. Even the two of them moving forward with work and each other was nice to see, but then I feel like nothing really happened? It sort of coasted, in my opinion. Now for those who read the book, yes, stuff actually does happen, otherwise this would've been pretty boring, but there just wasn't anything that sucked me in like it did in the first half. I didn't care for the characters like I did in their teen years.
“I’m sorry,” I say softly. “I’m a mess.” I don’t even plan the words, they just roll out, because I’m me and he’s Landon.”
I'm not usually one to point out mistakes, especially when reading an ARC because, well, it could be changed by the final copy, but there was something that didn't add up here for me and it's the ages/time apart/year. It's math! LOL. This tripped me up. It's mentioned in the blurb that Evie is 16. The story starts in 2006. Okay, so far so good. Nothing is mentioned of Evie's age at first, though we know she has her own car and can drive on her own. For where I live, the teen either has to be 17 or very close to 17 (like within a few months of their birthday) for this to happen. Enter Landon: Landon is 17, in a class with Evie and they are the 'same age'. Okay, so from here I expected her to be 17. Maybe she has a late birthday that wasn't mentioned?. Small difference from the blurb, so whatever, but then it's mentioned that she's 16. I just ignored it from here on out. So now we get to present day (I'm assuming 2017, unless this is written for a time in the future and I just didn't know?) and the characters are 29 (the blurb said, they never did). I would've expected 27 or 28, you know, depending on when in the year their birthday is. ;) I'm a smart ass, don't worry, I'm aware. SO then, they talk about how they have been separated for 10 years. Basically what I'm getting at is you can't be 16 in 2006, 29 in 2017, and have been separated for 10 years because, well, math.
So being my first book from this author, I did enjoy it. If things stayed as emotionally charged as the first half, I probably would even become her new biggest fan. Alas, I also know that not every story will always be as heartbreaking and angsty as I want them. <3 All is fair though. And if you discount my little math rant, all is well that ends well! I do though feel a need to buy some of her other books like right this moment.

FRACTURED LOVE is definitely a SERIES FAVORITE for me! I was HOOKED from the synopsis, but that's usually the case with an author like Ella James. She hooks me in so quickly and with so few words, and then she transports me to something truly beautiful and heartbreaking. And that prologue?! My heart was in my throat for those few pages alone. I think I knew then, that Evie and Landon's story was going to be something special...something tough...something beautiful.
"It's wrong - but it feels so damn right."
Leave it to Ms. James to make it so damn easy to fall in love with her characters. Even though I adored both Evie and Landon, it was Evie who took this one home for me. I was envious of how she was as a teenager, and then as a woman. She is so genuine...so special. She just has a really big heart, and I think that is what spoke to Landon from the very beginning.
I really enjoyed the way this book was set up. You had the gut wrenching prologue, then there was Part One which introduced us to the younger versions of Evie and Landon, and showcased how their young hearts started to fall for one another. Then there was Part Two, fast forwarding us 10 years, and we get to witness a young love reignite and grow into something deep, yet so very fragile. Told in both POV's, we get a real sense of what both characters are going through and how they are dealing with having each other back in their lives.
Evie and Landon go through SO MUCH in this book...some expected...some NOT so expected. This is a true testimate to how deep their love has truly grown. FRACTURED LOVE made my belief in fate and in the idea of soul mates, so much stronger. I rooted for these two the whole way through, and that is what you will have to do as a reader for this book. This may hit home for some of you. This isn't an easy happily ever after. You will have to work for it, power through, and trust that the happily ever after you WILL get out of Evie and Landon's story, will be so worth the heartache that you felt throughout the book.

The blurb is what hooked me to read this book. I love a forbidden love & Medical/Dr Love tropes. This book had them both! I read this as a standalone & that's what it was to me.
This starts off as a typical YA romance. Evie is the daughter of two Doctors (the Rutherfords) in affluent suburban North Carolina. She's 16 y/o, very well adjusted and very intelligent like her parents. Evie's parents are very busy but have it in their hearts to take in foster children.
Evie's sister Emmaline is a few years younger (she plays a minor role in the story). Their parents are told they're getting a 7 y/o boy named James. There's a clerical error & Landon James is really 17 y/o- closer to Evie's age than Em's
Evie adjusts to having a same age foster brother. She's very kind-even before she knows who he is. I had to question- why didn't Children's services bring Landon to the foster home (the Rutherfords) to be sure he got there safely? Evie was left to greet him first & bring him home from school. Hmm. Okay, I moved on to their great (& realistic) chemistry. I felt the attraction right from the start.
Evie was very supportive of Landon. He had been in the system since he was a toddler. He was abandoned at the hospital by his birth mother. He had an understandable lack of confidence while excelling in his school work. His memory and retention was off the charts. He did school work ahead of the due dates. Landon was very respectful to Evie and her parents.
Evie and Landon try to fight their attraction. Unsuccessfully. Their affair was closed door (still under age) and details were discretely described.I appreciated that. After being found out, Evie's parents send Landon away. Evie is traumatized and tries to reach Landon. Landon has a very rough time being back in a group home. The way he's treated was criminal. He runs away to avoid constant abuse. Evie and her parents have no idea where he went.
What happens in this time period to 10 years later isn't explained until Evie and Landon meet again- when they both are starting their Surgical residency in Denver, CO. What a coincidence, right? I think not.
The second half of the book gradually explains what happened with Evie and what happened with Landon during those 10 long years.
Now comes the NA part of the story. They're both 27 y/o and 1st year Resident Doctors in a fairly large medical center.
I just loved the flow of this story. I'm way over the YA/NA age group. I read very few YA/NA books.
They didn't just rush into each other's arms. There was some hesitation. Their terrible separation.
This was dual first person POV-another great thing that was so necessary.
There were so many things that were explained for me in the last 25% or so: Landon's struggles; how he got through college and medical school; what did Evie have to deal with during this time? Why was she in Colorado? Did Landon follow her there?
Their relationship was really starting over. Evie and Landon really did work for and talk through their heartbreaking separation and where they go from this point. There's a traumatic event and tearfully coming to grips with a new reality. The medical aspect was very good. The terms and the medical cases fit well into Evie & Landon's story. The senior medical staff was well portrayed. No bad guys like you'd expect. No ow, no om. No cheating. Both H & h showed tremendous growth & I loved them both.
The ending was terrific and had pretty good epilogue. The author has an extended epilogue in her newsletter. I need to get my hands on that.
One of my favorite books of the years & maybe my favorite YA/NA ever (actually more NA than YA).
I got this through KU, but I will probably buy it so I can read it again.
*As a side note-- the beginning of the story with Landon's mom abandoning him reminded me of Christian Grey in FSOG.

This starts off as a typical YA romance. Evie is the daughter of two Doctors (the Rutherfords) in affluent suburban North Carolina. She's 16 y/o, very well adjusted and very intelligent like her parents. Evie's parents are very busy but have it in their hearts to take in foster children.
Evie's sister Emmaline is a few years younger (she plays a minor role in the story). Their parents are told they're getting a 7 y/o boy named James. There's a clerical error & Landon James is really 17 y/o- closer to Evie's age than Em's
Evie adjusts to having a same age foster brother. She's very kind-even before she knows who he is. I had to question- why didn't Children's services bring Landon to the foster home (the Rutherfords) to be sure he got there safely? Evie was left to greet him first & bring him home from school. Hmm. Okay, I moved on to their great (& realistic) chemistry. I felt the attraction right from the start.
Evie was very supportive of Landon. He had been in the system since he was a toddler. He was abandoned at the hospital by his birth mother. He had an understandable lack of confidence while excelling in his school work. His memory and retention was off the charts. He did school work ahead of the due dates. Landon was very respectful to Evie and her parents.
Evie and Landon try to fight their attraction. Unsuccessfully. Their affair was closed door (still under age) and details were discretely described.I appreciated that. After being found out, Evie's parents send Landon away. Evie is traumatized and tries to reach Landon. Landon has a very rough time being back in a group home. The way he's treated was criminal. He runs away to avoid constant abuse. Evie and her parents have no idea where he went.
What happens in this time period to 10 years later isn't explained until Evie and Landon meet again- when they both are starting their Surgical residency in Denver, CO. What a coincidence, right? I think not.
The second half of the book gradually explains what happened with Evie and what happened with Landon during those 10 long years.
Now comes the NA part of the story. They're both 27 y/o and 1st year Resident Doctors in a fairly large medical center.
I just loved the flow of this story. I'm way over the YA/NA age group. I read very few YA/NA books.
They didn't just rush into each other's arms. There was some hesitation. Their terrible separation.
This was dual first person POV-another great thing that was so necessary.
There were so many things that were explained for me in the last 25% or so: Landon's struggles; how he got through college and medical school; what did Evie have to deal with during this time? Why was she in Colorado? Did Landon follow her there?
Their relationship was really starting over. Evie and Landon really did work for and talk through their heartbreaking separation and where they go from this point. There's a traumatic event and tearfully coming to grips with a new reality. The medical aspect was very good. The terms and the medical cases fit well into Evie & Landon's story. The senior medical staff was well portrayed. No bad guys like you'd expect. No ow, no om. No cheating. Both H & h showed tremendous growth & I loved them both.
The ending was terrific and had pretty good epilogue. The author has an extended epilogue in her newsletter. I need to get my hands on that.
One of my favorite books of the years & maybe my favorite YA/NA ever (actually more NA than YA).
I got this through KU, but I will probably buy it so I can read it again.
*As a side note-- the beginning of the story with Landon's mom abandoning him reminded me of Christian Grey in FSOG.

Ella James has the ability to make my heart soar and rip it out all in the same day. Reading Fractured Love today was an emotional roller-coaster which has left my heart reeling in the aftermath.
Taking two complete strangers and bringing them together with intense emotional intimacy all within the confines of a few pages is an amazing skill Ella James brings to her books.
Fractured Love begins with Landon and Evie meeting as teenagers. Landon is perfect; Brooding, snarky, intelligent, and loyal. He's pretty much my new book boyfriend, so hands off! Evie is his match; devoted, open, observant, and loving. Learning the background to Landon and Evie is quintessential to understanding their adult characters. And I have to admit Evie is absolutely adorable in every which way. I guess she can keep Landon for the time being. :)
Part 2 of the story brings together all the pieces as these second chance lovers find each other again. Putting this book down was impossible as each new chapter opened up new questions and kept me on the edge of my seat.
One thing I loved about these two characters was how they observed each other - like how Landon knew she'd still have those freckles across the bridge of her nose or how Evie notices the circles under his eyes. It's those little but totally dynamic details which built up an amazing love story of Fractured Love.
ETA: I just read the updated ending and Fractured Love has left my heart in my throat. The love between Landon and Evie has left me punch-drunk with giddiness. Their love was totally worth everything!

4 "Loving Landon is like breathing," stars.
Sigh.
I feel like Ella James really enjoys making people cry. Yes Evie and Landon's story is so super duper sweet. It's young taboo love, and you want to root for them even though it may be a little bit wrong. It's young love that you pray is lasting. Ugh. I feel like I can't really say much more or it will ruin this story. The basics are that Evie falls for her foster brother. Should she be doing this? Probably not, but you sometimes can't help who you love.
This story is sweet, angsty, hot, and passionate. There are bits where I was crying. There are bits where I was laughing. There are bits when I was so angry at some of the characters! Agh. This is just a good read. It starts light and gets a bit heavier... if you're looking for a mix of new adult and contemporary then this is an excellent read for you!

I loved this one, it's neck and neck with The Boy Next Door. This is a childhood lovers, second chance romance full of drama and feels. Two people that went through a whole lot, and even separated through the years, they were fated to be together and even though they didn't necessarily made the best choices at some point, they found each other again and got through it together. I'm such a sucker for second chance romances, and this one absolutely did not disappoint. This series was my first experience with Ella James' books and I definitely loved her writing.
The audiobook is fantastic as well!

O passado dos dois me interessou mais que o presente.
Não consegui me envolver com os personagens e é com dor no coração que eu dou essa nota, porque esse livro tinha TUDO pra ser incrível.
Até 50% do livro, a história me levou, eu tava curtindo, daí depois ele foi corrido e só foi me perdendo e me perdendo e perdendo. Pena. :(

La prima parte che racconta l’inizio della storia dei protagonisti ai tempi dell’adolescenza appassiona da subito, è intensa e dolce ed è stata raccontata perfettamente. Purtroppo per la seconda parte non è stata usata la stessa cura: accade tutto troppo velocemente, poco approfondimento proprio quando invece sarebbero serviti più dettagli possibile. Resta comunque una bella lettura, ma poteva esserlo ancora di più.

Yet again, Ella James took my heart for a ride and wrenched my emotions before gently placing them right where they should be again--happy, satisfied, and in love with another couple. I’m not sure how she brings her characters to life in such a way you feel as if they’re part of your life, but she does it...time and again.
Forbidden love isn’t a new subject in romance, but this story is written in a way that not only makes it feel fresh and new, but connects with the reader’s heart and makes you feel every single emotion right along with the characters.
Evie and Landon...what to say without spoilers...I love them. I cheered for them, I ached for them, my heart was broken for them, and it swelled with love for them. I longed for their healing, for them to find a way to put the pieces of their lives back together again. And as with any Ella James book I’ve ever read, I walked away wrung out and pleased and ready to do it all over again.

- Told in 2 parts. Part 1 is high school age. There is no high school drama and the story focuses on their budding relationship. Part 2 is 10 years later when they are first year residents at a hospital in Denver.
- Landon’s attitude about the initial mixup was awesome. He wasn’t a surly teenager with an attitude even though he had been in the foster system all his life. And when Evie explained his “7 year old bedroom” to him and he just took it all in stride, the author established his easy going personality and warm heart.
- ”Let me tell you this,” I say, daring a glance at him. “Your room is awesome. It’s got a Star Wars poster and airplanes on the sheets. In your bathroom, there’s a Hogwarts shower curtain. My little sister and I picked it all out for you, for seven-year-old Landon. Em, she wore her favorite Minnie Mouse dress to meet you at her elementary school today. You have to love her or you’ll break her heart. She’s expecting a new friend. I think you’ll find your clothes a little bit too small, but don’t go stealing any shirts. We’ll get you more.” His smirk bends into a smile.”
- I really liked Evie and Landon. I thought they had great chemistry from the very beginning.
- I liked that a foster family was actually portrayed as good place to be rather than always having the foster home be a crappy, scary place (which did actually come later).
- Pretty low on angst, but there are some heart tugging moments.
- These two cried a lot. Some emotional scenes called for it, but sometimes it felt like they were crying to pull that emotion out of the reader.
- The second chance portion of the book felt a little rushed
- I would have liked to see the meeting between Landon and Ashtyn

Ella James took me on such an emotional roller-coaster ride. Just from reading the blurb, you get an inkling of what this book is about. But oh my gosh, it's that and so much more. You get reeled in and you get lost within the two main characters (Evie and Landon). There so much depth to this story. So much emotion. Just, so much.
"The boy standing beside her is the physical equivalent of a secret, and in looking at him, I just heard it whispered straight down to my soul."
Evie and Landon meet when they are teenagers. He walks into her homeroom class and that's it, as her eyes meet his, she's lost. She's captivated by his beauty, but more than that, she wants to know him. Know everything there is to know about this mysterious boy. What Evie doesn't know though, is that Landon is her new foster brother. Her family and her expected a seven year old boy, but with a small glitch in the paperwork, they got a seventeen year old teenager instead.
Evie's attraction towards Landon increases with each passing day. She can't stop the stares she has for him. She can't stop thinking about him. Everything that Evie feels, Landon feels just the same. He tries to play it cool, but it's hard when he's living under the same roof as Evie. He doesn't want to jeopardize the kindness the Rutherford's have shown him. He knows one mistake can cost him everything.

'Fractured Love' was an absolute gem. I loved the story and especially Evie and Landon. These two made me ache, I hurt for them both. I just wanted them to find happiness because they deserved it so much. Ella, great job as always. I really enjoyed this one.
