MISSING TEAL AND TRENT? CHECK OUT ROGUE IN LOVE, THE BEGINNING OF A SERIES OF STANDALONES FEATURING TRENT REED'S NEW EMPLOYEES!
Hope & Abel
A Love Against the Odds Novel
If you could see your life from inception to your death, would you change things or would you let your death play out as fate intended?
Abel is in search of only two things. A stable job and a safe place to lay his head at night after a mistake that cost him eighteen months of his life. As if fate had plans made only for him, Abel is offered a complicated job, and a chance to redeem himself to his old boss. And then he meets her… And Abel adds another item to his list—Hope.
At twenty-six, Hope has only ever slept with one man, and at her boss’s unsolicited advice, Hope plans to forget the abuse and degradation she suffered at her ex’s hand by seducing and bedding the next man she meets. Only, after Hope finds a promise of death at her doorstep, her plans are derailed and only chance at staying alive rests on the dedication of her new bodyguard and her own sheer will to live the life she deserves.
Inger Iversen lives in Virginia Beach with her tree-hugging boyfriend Joshua and her overweight lap cat Max. When not reading or writing she spends her time watching reruns of True Blood or killing zombies in Call Of Duty.
Everytime I finish a book by Inger Iversen I feel like I've read my news favorite book by her. It's the same with this new book by her. I pretty much loved it right from the start and I also think that Abel and Hope are my new favorite couple from her books (I probably say this every single time too but it's true.)
This story is about Hope who's been running away from her abusive husband, Mark. Soon enough Mark finds out where she is and that's where Abel comes in as Hope's bodyguard and her only hope (no pun inteded) to keep her alive. The only things Hope and Abel hadn't counted on was to be fiercely attracted to one another.
Seriously, this book was such a great romance. It definitely ended up being my favorite one of the year so far in this genre. I loved both Hope as well as Abel (and not just because he can cook, although I felt slightly obsessed with the food he made for Hope.) The romance between them was sexy, steamy and just amazing!
The thing I probably loved the most was the change Hope made throughout the book once she met Abel. He helped her find the strength and confidence within that she needed to finally stand up to Mark in the end, which was really powerful.
Overall, Open Wounds was another hit for Inger Iversen. Not only was it a quick read, romantic and well written, there was also the element of suspense that made it even better. And I also feel like I should say how totally gorgeous the cover is. I can only say: go read it now!
2.00 Stars. (?W/WM). Audible Escape audiobook with narration by Melissa Moran and Joe Hempel. DNF. I read a little over 50% of this story before abandoning it. The narration is good and doesn’t diminish the story in any way. This story’s plot, events and characterizations and storyline are almost identical to COLTON’S DEEP COVER by Elle Kennedy...in Kennedy’s the White heroine is a registered nurse whose is fleeing physical and mental abuse from her husband, upon her arrival to town, she is employee at the hero’s medical who is a Black doctor, they become lovers and her husband finds her tries to lure her back with expensive gifts and threats of violence when the lures and taunting failed. This story followed those lines but with less interesting characters or believable dialogue between the main characters. Abel and Hope had insta-lust, immediate unexpected sex and ZERO romantic chemistry.
Even though I read snippets of this book before it's release date, I really wasn't sure what to make of it. The premise...a woman on the run, once tortured by her husband; now finding a little peace with an ex-con in the wild of Kentucky who wants to protect her. It's not far-fetched but something just wasn't exactly sure of. That being said...the story was captivating and Hope is a true romance heroine (strong, resilient, kind-hearted). You really want to help her. Abel is your standard Alpha-male book boyfriend with a sketchy past. They worked well together and deserved their HEA. I've kept up with this series and their connection to Trent and Teal (Inevitable and Indeliable) and I can't wait to read the next one. Great story!
Hope and Abel are both looking for a new start but past mistakes are standing in the way. When these two meet they realize that maybe they could be what the other needs to move forward. Hope and Abel's story is one of healing and finding themselves, while trying to give love a second chance. What I loved the most about these characters is that they are both broken and while they're trying to heal themselves they also begin to help each other heal. This was a sweet romance with passion between the hero and heroine that can not be denied. This is another great read by Ms Iversen and I give it 4 tars.
Hope and Abel's journey of healing and second chances resonated deeply with me. Their brokenness and mutual support were touching, highlighting the power of love in personal growth. While the story had its sweet and passionate moments, it lacked the depth I was hoping for. Overall, it’s a heartfelt read, though it didn’t fully captivate me.
steamy and fast paced, this novella packs a punch...its truly about survival, courage and hope for a better life....will read more books from author, i don't usually read MC, but i would love to know more about these Blackwater Renegades MC men...:-)
