She's running for cover--and straight into his arms.

A born and raised Maritimer, Sydney Somers fell in love with writing when she finished her first story, Jenny and the Glowing Green Mittens. While getting her degrees in psychology and education, Sydney tried her hand at journalism between part time jobs before finally returning to her love of writing.

Twenty-five novels and novellas later, Sydney is thrilled to spend her days slaying demons, running with shape-shifter packs and making the people in her head fall wildly in love. When she’s not writing or curled up with a good book, Sydney can be found chasing after her herd of kids, talking her way into a gourmet meal, exterminating rogue dust bunnies or joking about the pending zombie apocalypse. This book has nonstop action right from the beginning until the end. It's one that kept me on the edge of my seat. I had a hard time putting it down because these two would get out of a situation to find themselves right into a new one. The strength and integrity Max has makes her one strong heroine. Everything Lucas thought he knew is about to be turned upside down. Buckle up because Max and Lucas take one hell of a ride with every bump and turn imaginable.

After being framed for her best friend's murder, Maxine Walker, a New York detective is discovered hiding out in her friend Sherri's gift shop. She is essentially kidnaped by Lucas McAllister, a private investigator who managed to track her down to the small New Brunswick town. Oh yeah, she is also running due to a price on her head from the Blackwater Group whose mission is drug and arms dealings. You'll love the strong characters and sassy interplay between Max and Lucas and hold your breath as they stumble from one hair-raising encounter to another. Trust Me is a very good who done it drama with lots of action and hot enough to keep the romantics happy. I liked the way several of their scenes were laugh out loud funny when they were bickering. They made a great team when working together and protecting each other as their encounters move from small town to forests to New York City and on to New Jersey. It's well worth the read but it's only fair to warn you that you might not be able to put it down. I will be looking forward to reading more from this author.

Trust Me is a great police drama with lots of action and suspense and just enough sizzle to keep the romantics happy.
After being framed for her best friend's murder, a New York cop has to learn to trust the private investigator who manages to track her down to a small New Brunswick town or fall into the hands of the drug and arms dealer who wants her dead.
You'll love the strong characters and sassy interplay between Max and Lucas and hold your breath as they stumble from one hair-raising encounter to another. It's well worth the read but it's only fair to warn you that you might not be able to put it down.

Trust Me is an engaging romance with quite a bit of suspense and action mixed in. Even though I already read it a couple of weeks ago I can still vividly recall the plot and the characters, thanks to their high entertainment factor.
Maxine and Lucas are enjoyable protagonists and they make a sexy couple. Fortunately they don’t fall into lust at first sight when they first lay eyes on each other. In fact, their feelings are rather hostile and the first part of the story they spend a great deal of the time snapping and lying to each other. Which was funny and amusing until I started to wish for a wee bit of sweetness… There’s only so much of toughness and snark I can handle from a romance heroine, so I was glad when she finally started to be taken with Lucas.

Not that Maxine’s initial defensive reaction wasn’t understandable. She had every reason to dislike him, since he’s the one who found her hiding place and starts to drag her back to New York - thinking she killed his partner - meanwhile having a few violent criminals on their tail. Even so, her verbal responses started to get on my nerves a bit, despite the fact they made me laugh a couple of times too. Therefore I was pleased when her attitude changed.
Lucas’s feelings start to change as well, when he comes more and more to the realization that Maxine is innocent. And even though he seems a bit of over-qualified (with his history in Special Forces) to be making rookie mistakes like letting Maxine escape a couple of times, he is quite endearing in admitting his wrong as to her guilt. And their physical attraction grows with their emotional connection, which eventually leads to them exploring their undeniable chemistry:

“You can trust me, Max.”
Her cheek grazed his. “That doesn’t mean I should.”
“Still don’t believe I’m one of the good guys?”
“Either way you’re dangerous.”
He lowered his head and his lips skimmed her bare shoulder. She gave a little moan of approval.
“You don’t sound too worried.”
“I can handle it.”
He trapped her jaw in his hands. “At least one of us can.”
Her lips parted, and he nipped the bottom one then slowly pulled it between his. This time he knew that sharp intake of breath was definitely his, and when she fit against him completely, her hands sliding around his neck, like she needed something to hang onto—and Christ he knew the feeling—he had to tamp down the satisfied groan that vibrated through his chest.
So damn hungry for her, he opened his mouth over hers, taking complete possession. She arched against him, rubbing just hard enough that the slow, sweet friction left him aching to get inside her. Catching her hips, he rocked against her, and she released a deep a carnal sigh. He swept into her mouth, stroking deep with his tongue.
Trouble.

As this quote shows, we also get Lucas’s point of view, which I think is great. I love the male perspective in my romance books very much. The quote also shows Ms Somers pleasant and easy writing style that added up to the enjoyable reading experience for me.

But honestly, I was glad when the chase-and-run part of the plot, that was amusing at first but took up a significant part of the pages, came to a bit of a rest and started to lean more towards a physical exploration of the blooming feelings between the main characters, and also towards the resolve of the mystery story arc. I found that arc pretty suspenseful and well-developed, even though a few things felt unlikely (for example why Maxine stayed in hiding for three months while she should be catching the real killer). However the conclusion of it all was rather thrilling.

I understand that this is the first book in a series: The Lassiter Group series. And although I can’t find any information about other books, I suspect that the author has more of her well-written, entertaining mystery and suspense in store for us, which probably will involve other colleagues of Lucas in a romantic situation. I’m wondering which colleague will be starring in the second book… Trust Me was actually released before, in 2006, and this is a re-release, so, let’s hope Ms Somers won’t let us wait another couple of years for the next book.

Not too bad a book. It was hard to relate to Max at first, but Lucas was great, even when being such a ...guy. I look forward to more in the Lassiter Group.

Cara Beckett is dead, and now Maxine (Max) is on the run. Set-up for her death, she has been hiding in Canada at a store one of her friends own. But she won’t be alone for long. Lucas McAllister is looking for Max – Cara was his partner. Working for The Lassiter Group, “a private paramilitary unit outsourced by the U.S. Government for covert operations and intelligence gathering,” Lucas wants to find Max under any circumstance. While many feel Samuel Blackwater, a drug and arms dealer has probably taken out Max (since she screwed up his last deal), Lucas is still hunting her. And can’t believe his fortune when he finds her. But his good luck doesn’t last long.

Blackwater’s men also discover her, and Lucas knows what they would do to her if they got her. Lucas just wants answers from her, so he decides to “help her out.” Of course, Max wants nothing to do with any of them – but she soon finds herself on the run with Lucas. She doesn’t want to trust him, but they soon discover secrets and a building attraction that can’t be ignored.

I have really enjoyed Sydney Somer’s books in the past. But I have to say I am disappointed in Trust Me. My frustration first starts after Lucas and Max go on the run together. Lucas spent six years in Special Forces and three years in the Lassiter Group. He has hunted down the worst of the worst. And yet – he gets outwitted by Max more than once. He doesn’t handcuff her until she escapes. She steals his gun. Based on his experience and what we are told of him, he doesn’t come across as a man who has been up against the scary drug lords and murderers. At one point he scolds himself for having his judgment clouded “by a sexy, determined woman.” Really? He never acts professional. And I actually love his demeanor and the way he acts – I just wish he had been presented with a more believable background.

I had a hard time warming up to Max as well. She is extremely smart mouthed and stubborn and I think it was too much. And for that reason I had a hard time believing in Lucas’ lust and eventual love for her. They just didn’t seem to go together.

Like I said, I really have enjoyed Sydney Somer’s work in the past, and I will definitely be reading her in the future. This one just didn’t work for me.

Detective Maxine Walker has been on the run for three months. Her dogged pursuit of drug and weapons dealer Samuel Blackwater has gone terribly wrong, leaving Max’s old friend Cara Beckett dead and Max accused of being the dirty cop who killed her. With no where else to turn, Max has ended up in Riverbend, New Brunswick with her old friend Sherri.

Lucas MacAllister is still not willing to let the death of his partner go, even when his boss Joe Lassiter orders him to. Pretending to take some time off for a reflective fishing trip to Florida, Lucas follows a lead to New Brunswick - and right into the kitschy gift shop where Maxine Walker is hiding. Lucas is not convinced that Max is responsible for Cara’s death, but he would like to ask her a few pointed questions about the night in Blackwater’s warehouse when everything went so wrong. Unfortunately for Lucas, before he can ask Max a single question, Blackwater’s thugs show up and start shooting.

Max is grateful for Lucas’ help in escaping Blackwarer’s men, but when he turns right around and kidnaps her she figures it’s a case of ‘out of the frying pan, into the fire.’ Max and Lucas distrust each other on sight and they both have plenty of good reasons to lie about their actions and motivations. But with Blackwater’s men stalking their every move and passion threatening to erupt between them at any moment, they’ll have to learn to trust each other or risk losing everything they hold dear.

No one writes sexy romantic thrillers like Sydney Somers. All of her books, whether they have a paranormal element or are straight up thrillers like Trust Me, are gripping reads. Her heroines are strong and sassy and her heroes are pure alpha males with just a hint of tenderness and that combination, as in the case of Max and Lucas, leads to all kinds of sparks. The plot of Trust Me grabs you from the first pages and the strong writing keeps you hooked until the end. This was a fun read, full of action, humor and passion. I blew through Trust Me during one rainy day off from work and as soon as I was finished I started looking forward to more stories about The Lassiter Group.

After hearing so many good things about Ms Somers writing I couldn't resist the temptation to read this one. I'm not much of suspense reader in general but I really enjoyed this one. It is a wonderful contemporary novel with an intoxicating fast paced plot that didn't let me go.

We meet Detective Maxine Walker who's currently on the run not only from the NYC police force but also from the dealer Blackwater who got her into this situation to begin with. She's a strong woman, full of determination and a strong sense of honor. No matter what she won't back down from what's right even though her life is ruined by this decission. She knows how to be her own woman, she's tricky and strong and even a strong man like Lucas won't be able to tell her what to do. I really liked her, she was fun even though she regrets which turns her life took. She feels responsible for teh death that brought her into this situation and she desperately needs something to cheer her up and a bit of help with bringing Blackwater down won't hurt either.

Lucas works for the Lassiter Group and the afore mentioned murder which killed his partner. He can't give up searching for the culprit. At first his company thought Max had done it but he's sure she isn't. When he finally finds her he needs her help because she is the only one who can lead him to the murderer. Lucas is strong and a protector at heart. I liked him even though it was strange to see him so "helpless" against a woman like Max. A professional, like he is, should be able to stand his own more against an ordinary cop. But yeah I could ignore that fact in lieu of him being sexy as hell.

I loved the romance between those two. The attraction was strong from the start and I loved their little and sometimes even big fights. The balance between plot and romance was great and I was enthralled and never lost interest. As I said I'm not much of a suspense lover but this story really did it for me. I already know I can't wait to get more of this author- her writing is right up my alley. An absolute recommended read.

They could save each other. The key to their survival is trust. But with so much deceit and so many lies, how could Max trust Lucas, and vice versa? Well, being on the run together, staying ahead of the bullets and killers is enough to force two strangers to put their trust in one another. No one said it would be easy.

All Max wanted was a place to hide out. Who would have thought Sexy and Dangerous would walk through the doors of her friend's shop, one right after the other? The running begins yet again. Can the mysterious and elusive Lucas really be trusted? Is he one of the good guys or not? It's hard to guess right away. The reader is taken on a wild goose chase from nearly the beginning, with the villains right on their heels. The storyline revolves around a murder of a woman Max and Lucas both have connections to, and both want to find the truth of why she was killed. The evidence points to Max. Was she framed? Does Lucas honestly believe she killed his partner?

With just the right amount of backstory to keep up the heightened suspense of what's going on, Ms Somers creates a thrill of a journey with Max and Lucas. Just when you think to slow down and catch a breath, the character's are whisked away once again, Questions arise when Lucas reveals his identity and the real reason for finding Max. The two fight their immense attraction to each other, both knowing that it's not a good idea. The author has created such dynamic, believable characters that you can't help but root for.

With a whirlwind of events, this suspenseful story was completely engaging and filled with edge of your seat action and romance. Romantic suspense fans, don't miss this one! If you enjoy a story about a woman on the run, a man who wants only the truth and stops at nothing to get it, sizzling sexual tension, then trust me, this book is for you.

I presume you know what the book is about. I'm letting you know what I liked or disliked about it.

As always I enjoy reading Ms. Somers work.

This book does not have the same level of action or intrigue as Shadow Destroyers which I enjoyed very much. The characters were well developed, I enjoyed Ms. Maddy very much, as well as Eli, Tess, Burton, and especially Lucas and Max. I genuinely liked this heroine.

It's no easy feat to write a book that's interesting and easy to read. Nope, I don't mean short words in big print - I mean a nice, smooth, easy paced read, but this book has it and I recommend it.

Enjoy.

On to my next SS read :)

I love Mac's resilience and since of humor even under such stress. She makes a great heroine. I love how confident she is throughout and how loyal she is. I can sympathize with her shaken confidence at the end. Betrayal is always a confidence shaker. I don't think I would have handled it as well as she did. Additionally, the support of her family was perfect.

Lucas makes a really good hero. Tough and resilient, despite the rough start. I'm glad he comes around in the end and has the patience of a saint.

This a good and exciting story from beginning to end. Well, worth the read if you like a good cop story.

This was a fast-paced, suspenseful read. The chemistry was believable between the hero and heroine. Best of all the sex scenes were hot and setup in a way that made it reasonable that they would be in the mood for anything other than shuddering in terror or hiding from the bad guys.

I really liked the heroine. She was tough and unapologetic about it. So nice to have a smart, tough woman who talk or shoot her way out of any situation. She was never shamed for it, nor did the hero do anything other than admire her.

I enjoyed this book. I'm going to buy the next in the series.

Wow! What an intense and action packed story from start to finish! I was tired for Max and Lucas and all they endured. You know those fast paced action films everyone loves, that is exactly how it played in my head as I read. Max was a total badass strong female cop. And Lucas was a no holds barred ex special ops turned secret agent. Several of their scenes were laugh out loud funny when they were bickering. They made a great team when working together and protecting each other. I will have to read more if this series because Eli, Caleb, Tess, and even Joe were intriguing to me, making me want to know them too.
