Although there was a lot of good information and it goes over a wide variety of topics, this book is only good if you really like to read and want an introduction into a ton of topics. Its straightforward but it's a lot of information on a ton of different topics so it may be overwhelming to some. As a book worm, I enjoyed reading brief summaries about so many different topics but the one thing that really takes away from the book is the sexist generalizations about women. There are many statements such as
"a lot of people, particularly women, sincerely believe they don't care for wild meat."

This book was clearly written in the 50's because women are portrayed as being a stay at home mom or a damsel who is going to be under duress if they get dirty or if they venture out in the woods. Would I recommend this book for others? Yes if you like to like to learn about a ton of topics. If you are hoping to head out into the woods on your own after reading this book, this may not be the best book as it doesn't go in depth on how to survive... this book is more of a summary of the knowledge you'd acquire during a lifetime spent in the woods. I'm definitely glad that I read this book because I learned about 2-3 topics I had not heard of previously (and I own a LOT of books on wilderness/survival), but this is not something that I'll be keeping on my bookshelf as it doesn't have enough information that I would refer back to in the future.
