Found this gem of a book at MTTA’s High Hut on an overnight snowshoe trip this weekend. Gave my friends and me some good giggles, but alas, I cannot recommend. 5 stars for the hut tho! Must visit in Washington winter. I wish this app was like Strava, so I could add pics 🌄☃️🔥🥟🎂🥞☕️🃏
The Baby Assignment by Christy Barritt is a short novella from Harlequin. The romantic suspense novel is a quick read with non-stop thrills. From the first moment Special Agent Tanner Wilson arrives on the scene, he makes a huge splash, causing the world of Macy Mills to turn upside down. The romance and the suspense is formulaic, but Barritt does a great job at creating interesting types of suspense twists that keep me turning the pages. The romance heats up the moment Tanner and Macy meet each other again. I really enjoyed the novel especially because Barritt does a great job at creating original stories. Overall, I finished The Baby Assignment really quickly, but I enjoyed spending time with Tanner and Macy and watching them fight for each other and the baby.
I received a complimentary copy of The Baby Assignment by Christy Barritt from Christy Barritt, but the opinions stated are all my own.
Content review: Mentions of unwed pregnancies, murder, cruel behavior toward a baby, looking through reports of women who were killed, threats, and talking about miscarriage that happened to the heroine in the past.
THE BABY ASSIGNMENT is the first book in a new series Love Inspired Books are doing, each book written by a different author, so they are all stand-alone. Christy Barritt's is pretty much formula Love Inspired Suspense. FBI agent, mole in the department, heroine running for her life with no clue why and of course the bad guy knows every move she's going to make, spur of the moment or otherwise.
I've said this before and I'll say it again, I'd never survive as a heroine in a Love Inspired Suspense.
The action being what it is, the book is edge of your seat tense at time. Would the gunman notice her hiding under her desk at work? What about the baby who WON'T stay quiet? That at least added a realistic touch.
Macy and Tanner were former lovers and broke up so she could pursue her career dreams and he could pursue his, Now, years later, they are thrust together in this run for your life story with a baby neither one of them knows. And no clue who she is. None of the leads pan out. Until, of course, the final reveal at the end, for the HEA.
I had a vague idea who the mole was in the department, but had no idea who wanted the baby or why Macy was involved or even why the FBI got involved in finding out simply because the baby was left at the offices. So of course I had to keep reading to find out.
Fans of Ms. Barritt will likely love this book. I received a copy free. All opinions are my own.
Honestly, I do not know how Christy Barritt manages to come up with new and original story ideas on such a continuous basis. I mean, have you seen the list of her releases in 2018? This author is the definition of prolific. But that’s the best gift for us book lovers, right? In an attempt to figure out why baby Addie has been left at his office, FBI Agent Tanner Wilson must face his former fiancée for the first time in five years. Especially since Macy Mills name is the one left with the baby. In true Love Inspired Suspense form, the action ramps up from the first pages and the couple continue to run from danger throughout the book while dissecting what went wrong in their relationship. Macy and Tanner have a good, solid history that makes this story fire on all cylinders as they work together to protect the baby who Macy bonds with. The connection to Macy is unexpected but believable. The question of who is after this duo is slowly revealed until it all culminates in an intense and heart-pounding conclusion. Once again, Barritt delivers a fantastic suspense with plenty of action and plenty of sparks between the hero and heroine. The Baby Assignment was a compelling read that was filled with action from the first page. Tanner and Macy’s past ended on a bad note five years ago, but when Tanner appeared in her counseling office with a baby that needed protection Macy wasn’t sure what was happening. Then the eruption of gun fire, action, running, hiding and being discovered. Who was the inside person giving tips to the suspects? This mystery suspense is filled with everything needed to make it another outstanding story by Christy Barritt. I look forward to reading more books by this author.
I received a gifted copy of this book from a friend. I was not required to write a review, but have shared my own thoughts.
Intensely breath-snatching. An awkward truce forces these star-crossed lovers to work together to solve the mystery behind baby Addie...while trying to stay alive long enough to do it! Action from the get go keeps Tanner and Macy fighting to protect little Addie from a relentless force. Add to the mix the complications of tiptoeing around a messy end to what was once a promising future together and you get enough angst to keep a reader on edge for the duration. A sublime mix of romance and suspense with plenty action thrown in.
My review today is on the Love Inspired Suspense, The Baby Assignment. Christy's books are always a treat. This one is no exception. The story is well written, action packed, and full of suspense. Faith is interwoven throughout the story. You are going to love this one.
A small baby girl is left at the FBI office. The only evidence to the child identity is a scrap of paper with a child psychologist's name on it. Special Agent Tanner Wilson is assigned to find out how his ex-girlfriend is involved in the case. Someone is trying to abduct Macy and Addie. He is determined protect both his girls, find the abductors, and not lose his heart?
Child Psychologist Macy Mills has no idea who the baby could belong too. She can't identify little Addie and has no idea who would want to abduct her or the baby. She must work with Tanner to save the baby. The one man who crushed her heart; can she work with him and not be destroyed again?
A journey of two broken souls trying to work together to save a baby. A journey of righting misunderstanding, the power of assumptions, and the consequences of heartbreak. God has a plan for these three a plan for a hope and a future. God has a plan for you too; a good plan and not for evil. Make Him Lord of your life and watch Him turn your life around.
“The Baby Assignment” is a fast paced mystery/suspense that kept me engaged to the very end. When a hero and heroine who were previously engaged agree to help protect a baby left at the Houston FBI office, their lives become connected again. Despite danger at every turn and a mystery to solve, Tanner and Macy manage to rediscover the spark between them but is it strong enough to keep them together this time?
I enjoyed this book with multiple plot twists and surprises sprinkled throughout. Dialogue was excellent and helped keep it interesting. Loved how quickly Macy became attached to the baby and how protective Tanner was of them both. A major plus was that I didn’t have it all figured out before I was halfway through the story.
As always, this novel by Christy Barritt was entertaining yet contained a faith-filled thread that was encouraging to this reader. I recommend “The Baby Assignment” to anyone who enjoys a short but action filled suspenseful read.
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book provided by the author. A favorable review was not required. All views expressed are my own.
The Baby Assignment was filled with action and suspense. It had some intense moments that made me hold my breath. This story is also a second chance romance for Tanner and Macy. They were engaged five years ago, but Macy left a note for Tanner breaking up before she moved away. Fast forward 5 years, and Marcy is back working in her home town as a counselor. Tanner is an FBI agent and needs her help with a case he is working. A baby was dropped off at the FBI office and the only lead they could find was a piece of paper with Marcy’s name written on it. Not sure who wants baby Addie, but they don’t care who they hurt to get to the baby. The first chapter was intense, and it only got better the more I read. Tanner and Macy have made a commitment to keeping her safe. You would think Tanner would have a good FBI team working with him. I’m sure most of them are good, but there is a mole in the department. The bad guys found them in every safe house they stayed in. Christy Barritt did an outstanding job writing this one. I loved the end of the book. I’ve always loved a happy ending. I literally teared up from all the emotions. If a book can make me cry, it’s a keeper!
Misty Mills is going through an average day of work at her therapy office when she looks up and sees her ex Tanner, whom she hasn't seen in five years, standing in her doorway holding a baby. He tells her he's there on business with the FBI and needs her help finding out who the baby's mother is but three armed men come in to get the baby. Macy is pulled into the mystery and Tanner has been put in charge of keeping her and baby Addie safe until they can figure out what's going on. Why do people want the baby? How is Macy connected to the baby's family?
The action kicked up quickly and I was anxious to figure out how the bad guys were tracking Addie and how the mom knew Macy. I was engaged in the story and couldn't put the book down. I read it in about five hours. I also enjoyed learning the backstory between Macy and Tanner and seeing how they interacted in such close proximity while navigating their reintroduction into one another's lives. If you like action, suspense, mystery, and a little romance then you will thoroughly enjoy this book.
The Baby Assignment was book #1 in the Harlequin Love Inspired Suspense Baby Protectors series. In this episode, A young mother leaves her six month old baby at the FBI office in Houston, Texas, saying she will be safer with them than with her. Then the woman vanishes. In the baby's possessions, there is a note that says to give the baby to Macy Mills. Tanner, the FBI agent that takes the baby to Macy, is Macy's former boyfriend, whom she hasn't seen in five years. Tanner and Macy have to protect this baby from evil people who want to kidnap the baby. When the mother is found dead, the situation gets more dangerous for Macy and little baby Addie. Who is leaking information about their safe house locations? How do the bad guys keep finding them? I gave this book 5 stars. This is book 1 of 6 books, but the entire mystery behind who Addie is and why the bad guys want her is cleared up by the end of the book.
The Baby Assignment is the newest Love Inspired suspense from Christy Barritt. This book is full of heart-pounding action from beginning to end. Addie is left in the care of Tanner, an FBI agent, by her mother who is obviously in danger. In the diaper bag, a slip of paper contains the name Macy Mills, a name from Tanner's past. It becomes apparent very quickly to Macy and Tanner that someone desperately wants this baby and will stop at nothing to get her. How do these people seem to know their every move? Is there a mole? Are they being tracked somehow? Through shootouts to car chases to fires, Tanner and Macy work tirelessly to figure out why people are after Addie. All of this while realizing they still have feelings for one another. For fans of romantic suspense, this is a must read.
I was given a copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.
This book is part of the Love Inspired Suspense series. Macy Mills is a counselor at a psychotherapy center. Tanner Wilson, a former boyfriend, arrives with a baby. The baby's mother had dropped her off at his FBI office. Macy had some connection to the mother, but couldn't remember her even though her name was on a note in the baby's diaper bad. The search for the mother proved to be very dangerous for Macy and Tanner, not to mention the baby. People chase them, attacked them and took the baby. Read this to find out how this is all resolved. You won't regret it. I always like Ms. Barritt's books, but I believe this one was the most exciting ever! I read it at Christmas time. Thanks for the present, Christy. I have not had time to post my reviews lately because of many family events and church obligations. Do yourself a favor and read this!
Making a difficult situation worse, Tanner must rely on former fiancee, Macy, to help solve a dangerous mystery involving a baby dropped off at the FBI. Where is her frantic mother and what happened to her? Macy is anything but pleased to see Tanner at the door to her office. She spent years placing distance and walls between them in an attempt to heal from the painful breakup. Circumstances won't allow that now and Macy and baby Addie require Tanner's protection in order to stay alive. Is this really a coincidence or a chance for hope and second chances?
Join this perplexing tale and gain a few hours of inspirational distraction while testing your sleuthing skills.
I received a complimentary copy of the book without obligation. This review is my own opinion.
A new book by my favorite author! This is not your mother's Harlequin book. I had no idea that they had an inspirational category.
Why is baby Addie in danger? What kind of person wants to get their hands on her, no matter the cost? Special Agent Tanner Wilson has been assigned to protect Addie and he will do anything to keep her safe, including facing his ex-girlfriend. It is only minutes after greeting her that the sparks begin to fly, sorry, that is bullets begin to fly. What has he dragged Macy into?
Catch younger attention? Mine too. I very much enjoyed the balance of action, emotions and second chances. Buy this book as soon as you can.
I received this book free from the author/publisher. The above is my honest review.
Special Agent at the FBI Tanner Wilson and child psychologist Macy Mills didn't expect to see each other again after a painful break-up. But, a baby, left at the FBI office where Tanner works, throws them back together in the most mystifying way. A note left with the baby gives Macy's name, but neither one can figure out why. Tanner has to protect the baby and Macy too, as they try to unravel the mystery surrounding the baby's parentage, and why someone is willing to kill to get their hands on that baby. On the run, being chased by possible killers, and a lot of emotional baggage between them, threatens to tear them down before they can find answers. I received a copy of this book from the author.
Each time I pick up a new Christy Barritt book I am reacquainted with the delight of a story filled with chills, thrills, and plenty of romance! The Baby Assignment more than proved that rule and I enjoyed every minute spent within the pages. This book had lots of twists and turns that left me guessing!
Fans of Christy Barritt, and Love Inspired Suspense, will be sure to love this first book in the new Baby Protectors continuity series! So, grab your copy of The Baby Assignment and spend some fun time trying to figure out who is after baby Addie and why...before it's too late!
(I received a copy of this book from the author. All opinions are entirely my own.)
This fast paced story focuses on FBI agent Tanner Wilson and his search to find out why a baby was left at FBI headquarters and how his ex-girlfriend Macy Mills is connected. After finding her name inside the baby's diaper bag, he brings the baby to her office but just as they are trying to figure things out, gunmen arrive trying to get the baby. Gunfire, car chases, and broken hearts are all part of this mystery - who wants this child, how do the bad guys keep finding them, and can Tanner and Macy figure out where their relationship goes from here?! Another great read from Christy Barritt! I did receive an author's copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
I loved, loved, loved this book!! The name might not draw you in but wow the story sure will. With tightly written characters and a well-written plot line with lots of twists and turns, the readers will be wondering what comes next. I love the humanness of the characters and the vulnerability - - how I could relate to each of the main characters. It was a perfect blend of mystery, suspense, and romance. The thing I would have changed would have been that since the author is upfront about the characters being Christians (which I love!), I would rather there not be references to a "Higher Power". Overall, a great read!!

The hero and heroine were once engaged, but things ended badly and they haven’t spoken in five years, but this case has throws them together when Macy’s name connects her to the baby that was dropped off at the FBI office. Tanner is tasked with the duty of figuring out what Macy knows. But Macy can’t figure out how she is connected. The action begins almost from the first page and doesn’t let go until almost the end. Just when I thought it had calmed down a bit for the characters to catch their breath, something else happens keeping them on high alert. Will they catch a break and be able to figure out who is after them? Who can they really trust?
I really loved these characters. Macy was a nurturer and it was no surprise how quickly she connected with the baby. Tanner was the typical FBI hero readers expect, out to catch the bad guys while protecting those in his care. I really enjoyed the reconnecting of these two past loves and that they finally addressed what happened between them five years ago. I had an inkling of who one of the bad guys was going to be but couldn’t figure out how everything connected together. Ms. Barritt did a wonderful job of tying everything together and keeping the reader on their toes. (I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.)
Pretty darn good I’ll have to say! Tanner Wilson with the FBI is trying to figure out why someone left a baby girl at FBI headquarters and why someone else wants her so bad. Having to go and confront his ex- fiancé is an act he’d rather avoid but baby Addie’s life depends on it. Macy Mills can’t believe Tanner is standing in her office after all this time and especially after the way she left him. Then she notices a baby in his arms and is taken aback until she realizes he’s seeking her help in finding out who the baby’s momma is and why someone wants to kidnap baby Addie at any cost. Can Tanner and Macy put past feelings and misunderstandings behind them to protect Addie from evil?
Awesome !! This is a Love Inspired Suspense book that was 171 pages on an EBook. Christy Barritt takes you on another action packed suspense and romance story that is clean and an easy read. I loved the epilogue that told you what the main characters were doing six months later. She didn't leave you hanging and wondering........ Also Christian elements woven into the story. The only thing is that I don't understand why it is considered a "Western" as it takes place in modern times. Tanner is an FBI agent in Houston, Texas in modern times and he wears a cowboy hat and cowboy boots. That is as close to "Western" as it gets and Macy is a psychologist. Oh well, I loved the story !!!
The Baby Assignment by Christy Barritt is a romantic suspense novel. While I love mysteries, romance is not my favorite genre. However, Christy Barritt is masterful at creating the perfect blend. This book is a quick read with non-stop action.
When Special Agent Tanner Wilson arrives at Macy Mills' office with a baby in arms, she is not quite prepared to see him. However, things very quickly go from bad to worse and before long, Macy finds herself on the run.
I received a complimentary copy of The Baby Assignment from Christy Barritt, but it no way affected my opinion.
Sometimes we make hasty decisions before we think and it cost us years of regret. That's what happened to Macy and Tanner. One hasty decision five years ago, but God had a plan. A lady dropped off a baby at FBI headquarters saying to keep her safe, in the diaper bag was a piece of paper with Macy's name on it. Of course Tanner was assigned the case. This story has action from start to finish. Attempted murder, arson, kidnapping, murder, greed, and reconciliation between Tanner and Macy. I thought I had figured out who the mole was but I was so wrong.
Christy Barritt writes a good suspense story. This book starts out fast and keeps going. A baby left at the FBI office for their protection by her mother. Tanner is assigned to head the protection detail for the baby. There was a note inside the diaper bag with his former fiancé’s name on it. When he confronts Macy as to why the child would be in danger she is stumped. Who is the child? Why is she in trouble? Will Tanner be able to save both child and Macy without leaving his heart behind again?
Five years ago, Macy Miles left a "dear John" letter for her fiance before heading to Oklahoma to earn her doctorate degree in psychology. Now Tanner Wilson is at her office door with a baby in his arms - because her name was found in the baby's diaper bag when she was dropped off at the FBI office. Within a very short time, gunshots sound at the office, and Tanner, Macy, and baby Addie have to run for their lives while trying to figure out exactly who Addie is and why people want to risk so much to get the baby.
Other than a few missing words early in the book (random and just slightly annoying), I enjoyed this story. It did not distract from the story, and the last three-fourths of the novel were clean and well-edited.
I loved Macy and Tanner's difficult relationship. Add in a baby in danger and life gets interesting. Christy Barritt is an excellent writer and her story telling show that.
I received this book free from the author/publisher. The above is my honest review.
This was a beautiful romance about overcoming misconceptions to have a second chance at love. Suspense ,the nail-biting kind, grab you and propels you through the book.,as Macy and Tanner race to save baby,Eddie from kidnappers and solve the mystery of her mother's disappearance. I recommend this book to those that love Christian romantic suspense. I received an ARC from the author. My opinions are 100% my own.
The Baby Assignment by Christy Barritt is a great installment the Love Inspired Suspense series of books. In this book, psychologist Macy is stunned to find her ex-boyfriend Tanner, an FBI agent, at her office carrying a baby. This story starts strong and never stops with twists and turns. I highly recommend it as a fun weekend read. I received a digital copy from the author, but I would have bought it anyway. These opinions are entirely my own.
