GALEN

Lust.
My ultimate downfall,
And demise.
I'm shackled to a life I can't escape.
A life I never asked for.

Now, I'm trapped--soulless,
Burdened by a Watcher lurking within.
He wants out, he wants her.
But I can't let that happen,
Won't let that happen.

She's mine.

Somehow that doesn't matter.
I can’t have what I crave.
What I want.
What I need.

As the Watcher fights me,
Battles for control,
I refuse to succumb.
It's a power I'll never relinquish.
I can't unleash what lies beneath,
Without paying the ultimate price,
And losing her in the end.

Okay, I have to be honest here. This is my first read by this author.
I requested this book because I totally dig this cover. I had no idea it was a paranormal genre, and paranormal is usually not my thing, so I tend to avoid reading it.
When I started reading Waking the Watcher, I was like, damn, I don't think I will like this one.
But boy, was I wrong... so, so wrong.
I ended up really liking it! One of the first PNR books I liked! That's a huge thing for me :)
The writing, story line, characters... it was just amazing and unique.
I highly recommend it!

DNF at 10%

I can't remember the last time I gave up on a book this early on, but Holy Hell, that was awful...
I'm aware that this is supposed to be Erotica, but is it really too much to ask for a little subtlety, some build-up and tension? In the first chapter alone, Galen mentions his cock/dick/crotch/erection more often than I ever cared to read about it.

Obviously, once again I am the odd one out with my opinion, as everyone else seems to have loved this book, so I'll just give you a little piece of advice: make sure to read the sample before purchasing this - if you're into it: good for you. If you're not: you're welcome.

No rating for obvious reasons.

So excited to get back into some awesome paranormal romance. It's been a while, and Waking the Watcher reminded me why I love this genre so much. Who doesn't love a sexy, powerful vampire? And Kim Loraine definitely did hers justice!

Kim Loraine weaves an incredibly unique story that combines folklore, spirituality, and supernatural beings with love, lust, and vivid characters. I couldn't stop reading until I finished at 5am!

When I first started reading Waking the Watcher, I hadn't known what to expect. I don't usually read paranormal romance, because honestly, I tend to hate them. In the first chapter or two, it seemed like this was going in the usual "vampire love story" direction, and I was like...oh boy...but, BAM! That changed really fast when I realized how complex this story actually is. Fallen Angels, Guardian Angels, Vampires, Incubus, and so much more. This is a brilliant plot, and I can't wait to get my hands on the next book to find out what happens to the other characters in the world!

Definitely recommend for anyone who loves paranormal romances, high-concept universes, and an insane amount of hot sex!

DNF! MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD!

ARC kindly provided via Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

This is really unusual for me. There are very few books that I haven't finished and Waking the Watcher was one of them. The story started nicely! The plot was looking promising. The chemistry among the heroes was really intense! What went wrong? The heroine! One moment she wanted the hero, the next not, then again yes and then again no! After the third time that she decided that she didn't want him, I didn't want the book anymore.

Please don't take me wrong, there is nothing wrong with a bit drama in a book but this one really didn't work for me! I couldn't take it anymore.

This is my personal opinion and it shouldn't discourage you from reading the book.

Wow. This one was not what I was expecting but actually turned out very well. The story was interesting and captivating. The unique characters made this a very different type of read for me. I've enjoyed reading Waking the Watcher by Kim Loraine. It's the first book I've read by this author and I'm looking forward to reading the upcoming books in this series. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for a honest review.

This was an okay read. It wasn't long and the narrators were pretty good, especially the guy who did great accents. The plot was kind of confusing and I didn't completely understand how things were happening. The was a lot of smut, which saved this for me lol. It was pretty often since it was a main point of the story, with Galen/Sariel needing Reece's blood and to "feed" from her. The ending was alright, but I don't know if I'll continue with the other books.

3.5⭐️⭐️⭐️

Style: Paranormal Romance (Vampire)
Story: 3/5
Enjoyment: 3.5/5
Dark Level: 2/5
Sexual Level: SEX-citingly APPEALING
Triggers: Yes
Violence: Yes
Male: Vampire, Sensitive & Sexy
Series: Book 1 (Cliffhanger)
Pages: 241
Audio: GOOD
Kindle Unlimited: No

STORY:
This book was a little crazy mix with a huh? This story follows Reese, 23 and has the pressure of wanting to get rid of her virginity. One night she meets Galen, who is a century old vampire who is desperately in need of feeding. After a taste of Reese sexually and by blood he becomes obsessed and can not control his need for her. This awakens (the watcher) inside Galen, thus beginning a a strange ride. The whole sharing a body thing was annoying, but it was different as well.

Galen to me was sexy, I think his constant need for Reese weirdly is what gave him that appeal to me. He can be a bit sensitive, but internally with what’s going on it makes sense. Reece was very naive I felt at times, but seeing her slowing come around made this an interesting read. There was a lot going on even including fallen angels and it sucks you in, so I was entertained. The one thing I didn’t like for me personally was the religion aspect of it.

CHEMISTRY:
Wow, so I noted Galen is obsessed with Reese and couldn’t get enough of her. With this, the watcher has woken which to me is almost like a male version of a succubus because sexually OMG they kept going at it. It was a good intensity but can get boring when it’s too much.

SECONDARY CHARACTERS:
There were a lot of interesting characters good and bad that made this story appealing.

OVERALL, a good read, maybe confusing for some, and it may not be others cup of tea. Although I enjoyed this, not sure if I will continue the series as it’s a cliffy and there are 3 books.

✰✰TRIGGERS: as noted before it may or may not be a trigger but some religious aspect of this book.

****I don’t equate these stories to real life. It’s about personal taste and what you would or want to tolerate with the books you read. I know we all have different opinions and preferences with what we read. I based my book reviews on my preferences and what I like, and while these preferences may not be the same for others, I hope this review was still helpful.

This was quite confusing at times, with the vampire hero being inhabited by some kind of angel/spirit, something or other and a mishmash of Lucifer/Archangels and other pseudo-Biblical characters appearing at intervals.

I wasn't convinced. I found the vamps a tad unpleasant (not a vamp-lit fan), the biblical references awkward and really tired of the word fuck, and variations thereof, which seemed to appear several times a page. If the heroine could have avoided the words holy shit as an exclamation, it would have been nice, too, especially when God and his servants were in the picture. It was lame. And repetitive.

Most importantly, I just couldn't feel a connection or any empathy towards the MCs. Read it if you like dirty, vamp/apocalypse/end-of-days stuff, and you don't mind that the conventions of these genres are messed with.

So much more

This book is not really a paranormal book. Sure there are vampires and angels and vampire/angel mashups but what this really is is romance in the purest sense of the word. Galan and Reese s love is deep and old, unshakable and true. Tears started running down my face long before the book was over. There is mystery and treachery . This is definitely going on my reread list.

Waking The Watcher
by Kim Loraine

This review will be short and simple since I needed to dive into DtW and I didn't had time to process the book because I just had to know what was gonna happen next.

Ok so, this is what I have to say; HOT VAMPIRE, SEXY FALLEN ANGEL, STRONG GORGEOUS woman, lots of action and hot burning passion. Do I need to say more??!! If you love Paranormal Erotica, this is the series for you. You need to meet the sexy Galen. He's a dark and dangerous vampire who his libido had been dead since the day he was turn. His only way of pleasure and excitement is drinking human blood but that will change when he meets gorgeous Reece. The beautiful virgin who will turn his life around. Galen has a problem there's someone else dying to take Reece away from him. Who is this man??! I WONT TELL. You need to read jajaja I'm bad I know but trust me this adventure is only beginning.

Where to start. this story line was not really for me. I was left with too many questions in the beginning and although you get some your still like the story doesn't make perfect sense until the end. There were parts that I liked. I like Galen and how he turns out. I think it would have been nice to find out if anything was different about the baby.

*Reread Review*
LOL I spent this whole book thinking... man this seems familiar.. so familiar, not realizing that I had read the book last year. I thought maybe I had read something in the series before and thats why it seemed familiar but I couldn't remember anything about it... Nope as it turns out I've read this exact book and couldn't remember anything about it except vague impressions. Therefor I'm keeping the 2 star on this since its read #2 and I'm still not that into it. I will say that I did this time via Audible listening to the audio. As I get more and more into audio books I've really had a lot of time to differentiate and compare the different production types. This book is done "In duet" which means that every time the female characters speaks the female narrator chimes in and vice versa. This was fine for most of the story.. except the intimate scenes... which seem to make up most of the book.. there was this slight pause while they switched that for some reason created an awkwardness that just I just couldn't shake. I feel like plot wise this book, while, having an interesting concept, never got into the concept enough.. like we hovered on the edge of the plot while the author basically kept us in the bedroom for most of the book. This put a damper on things, story wise, for me.

Our characters were really flat when it came to range and chemistry. They were attracted to each other because the author said so.. not because they meshed together well. In fact the only thing they had going for them through the entire story was their sexual attraction to each other.. there really wasn't much else. I don't feel like the author put in enough about the watcher and the "watcher" connection which was the best part of the story. Everything was overshadowed by their constant need for sex..

It just could have been better for me and felt like it never really went anywhere. I see why I gave it 2 stars last year and am kind of embarrassed that I had read the book before and had almost no recollection of it.. but yea tha'ts where I stand..

I love PNR but was wondering would I like this book if she has two men...

This is my first read from this author and what a great job she did of this book. The vampires are traditional, they can't go in sunlight, sleep in the day and can't eat normal food.

Throwing the car into Park, I step free of the pheromone-filled torture chamber and breathe in the cool air.

The story pulled me very quickly and I took to the characthers well, I was rooting for Galen all the way through, I liked Sariel but Reese and Galen were good together.

"Oh f**k," I growl. "You're a bad girl wrapped in an innocent package. That's Cruel."

I like a vampire love story, this book has a twist in the tradition vampire meets girl and falls in love and a selection of other paranormal beings - no spoilers here!

I thought this was a great read and will be looking up more books from this author.

Oh my goodness, Waking The Watcher blew me away! This unique twist on the paranormal made this so much more than another vampire romance. I was riveted to every page from the very start, so much so that I bought the audiobook so that I could continue with the story when I had to put my kindle down to work. Galen was so much more than your average vampire hero. The beautiful true love between him and Reese and the sacrifices he was willing to make, along with all the battles he face just for her left me with tears in my eyes. I can't wait to get my hands on the next book!

This was an ok read for me. Not sure what I think about it. I listened to this on my way to and from work and wasn't sure how I felt about the narrators and maybe if I read it instead of listening to it I would have enjoyed it more. All in all it was just a three star read for me. Not that that is bad just not sure I want to continue the story.

Wow. This is not a genre that I usually enjoy but this story was fantastic. The chemistry between Galen and Reese was off the charts. The struggle that they endured to be together was epic and the sex scenes were hot!! I have been converted and cannot wait until the next story.

I really tried to give this book a chance. I got to chapter 11 and couldn't take it anymore. His cock hardening every 2 minutes was annoying. For this to be a trilogy I figured there would be more of a story. #DNF

Waking the Watcher had some potential and I enjoyed the way this book started. But, it ended up just being okay for me. The main characters Galen and Reese were just ok and very whiny. Reese was very annoying and jumped to a lot of conclusions and threw fits over trivial things. But whatever. The sex scenes were very sexy, but I felt like there should have been more of a connection between Galen and Reese other than purely physical need. I get the reason why the sex is so intense, but I needed something more. There were definitely things about the story that I liked, like why the Watchers were after Galen and story behind the fallen angels.

I didn't hate this book, I just didn't necessarily love it either. I will probably read the next book in the series though because the writing is really good and I'll admit the story is still entertaining. I want to know more about the Watcher.

“Redemption is not about equalizing the good and bad, it’s about repentance and your choices moving forward.”

HO.LEEE. SMOKES! Wooeee! What a story that had me captivated from the start! Vampires & fallen angels, and woah, what a great story line!

And there is an element about this that is exciting! Let’s just say, when that 3rd point of view suddenly pops up, I was so excited to see where this was story going to go. Who is it? Well, you’ll just have to read and find out. And trust me; you want to read this story.

Details….oh no! You definitely don’t want any. The twists that happen give you chills and excitement. The only thing you need to know is that you need to read this!

Incredible plot! Loved it from start from to finish! Filled with good action and an anticipation of what’s to come, this exciting story takes you on a fascinating ride and is one you don’t want to miss!

Paranormal romance I am told, and I think to myself, I just don't know if I can listen to this. It is not my choice of genre, but it's Kim Loraine! I love her Golden Beach series, so I have to listen. I will muddle through....but oh was I completely entranced! This book from start to finish captured my attention. Vampires, fallen angels, friends, incubus, wooden stakes, sunlight...so many intricate details are woven into this story of Galen, Reece and Sariel, not even mentioning the incredibly erotic scenes. Kim Loraine is a master at integrating the supporting cast of characters too, giving us Devin, Gabriel and even Lucifer, making them memorable and important. Passion, heat, anger, sadness and every other emotion you can think of will be felt as you read this book. I can tell you I am looking forward to book two and the continuing struggle between heaven and hell...you know it will be a wild ride.

Will M Watt and Susan Fouche...this narrating team is complete perfection.Their talent is beyond extraordinary. Will's ability to switch between Irish brogue and an American accent is flawless and Susan is able to make you feel every emotion that Reece is going through. I could not have enjoyed this book more! Love it!

Waking the Watcher (The Watcher 1) by Kim Loraine

### 4.5 Stars ###

Brilliant book ! such a different paranormal read. I love a good vampire read and lately I'm finding some can be a little predictable - this one definitely wasn't ....it was totally unique.

I loved the chemistry between Reese and Galen, their constant battles, twists, turns and the story as a whole.

I slipped my rating down slightly as I'm not a fan of the whole 'Virgin' thing ... then progressing quickly into full on steamy scenes, but having said that I still thoroughly enjoyed this book and will look forward to reading the next book in this series.

I liked it! I have never heard of this author before and took a chance. I enjoyed the read and I liked Devin and Galan. These characters are strong. I didn't like how she would run and never give Galan time to explain. This is a good story line. Is doesn't feel rushed and There is enough back-story to keep you engaged and wanting more!! There has to be more Devin in this series. Will read definitely!
