This outstanding book breaks down the important things today’s parents need to know and do — from first diagnosis to educational steps in the journey toward raising a listening and talking child. Chapters include tips (such as helping your baby or toddler ease into hearing device use and exposing him to language at home) plus easy to understand information on relevant topics such as pediatric hearing tests, IEP team roles, resources and more. This valuable resource doubles as a college textbook for deaf education and early intervention programs.

This book needs to be updated to incorporate the importance of bimodal bilingual education for deaf children. If we could ignore the unique needs of a deaf child and force every single one of them into a listening and spoken language world it would probably earn 5 stars but unfortunately we can do better and so must this book. It was very helpful for understanding the process of learning spoken language so perhaps those without deaf children should read? But if you have a deaf child, you should supplement it with some education from the Deaf community.
