Title: ➳ Kane Series: ➳Alexander Shifter Brothers 1# Author: ➳ ❤Selina Coffey Published May 19, 2017
💞 This is a new author & new world for me… I was certainly impressed. I enjoyed getting to know both Kane & Damesha. This is a great introduction to this series!
ღ Damesha Parker , Is 28 years old & she is psychic & writer/researcher on African-American anthologies and biographies. She lives in New York City, but she is going on road trip to Kansas to get info for her book
💞 Kane Alexander has plenty of secrets. Secrets that his clan doesn’t him sharing with Damesha since they had that instant connection.
► Maybe it’s my imagination, but lord have mercy Kane’s brothers seem very rude throughout the book. I get the whole keeping our world secret – anyways I hope they lighten up when we read their book
♥●•believe or not I usual don’t like it when the charioteers form an instant connection, Cuz that usual means the romance part is not going to be believable. No worries in this case
► There isn't a lot I disliked per say I just feel the story is missing a few things that would have made it solid 5 stars for me in my opinion, but no worries I still gave a 4 stars. I believe had to with the author trying to draw you in for the next book
💞 I do wish the author would have gave us Lil more back story on the charioteers
♥●• if you are looking for book that has somewhat new twist on shifters this the book for you.. You’ll also find family & clan drama & suspense to keep you interest
➦Hope you enjoy this read & also always keep in mind this is just my opinion
➦ 💕 would I recommend this book: Hell Yes.
➦ 💕 I received an EXCLUSIVE copy of this book in exchange for my honest review of it. 💕 💕 . .**This has not influenced my review.* ** 💕 ✎Paulette Review ❤💕
I am a fan of shifter books. In the beginning I was into both Damesha and Kane. Instantly, I felt the spark between them both. Additionally, I enjoyed the fact that Damesha is a strong, intelligent woman. Kane appreciated this fact as well. However, I did not react after the first or even second time that these two hooked up.
I kept reading waiting for the story to pick up. Yet, it did not seem to have much movement. I got two-thirds of the way into the book and was done reading. I had yet to meet any of Kane's pack or see his abilities. However, on a high note; Damesha was the stronger of the two characters. I am always glad to see strong, female leads.
This is a shifter book that is not like any I have every read before. It was definitely an interesting read. It was kind of a strange story. At first I was thinking wolf shifters, but that was not quite right. The story held my attention and has me wondering what is going to happen next. I am starting book 2 about Cade tonight. I am really interested to see where this story goes.
This book is about Damesha, an author who goes to Kansas to do book research. While in Kansas she meets Kane. Kane is a handsome sexy as hell man. A man with a dark secret. While Damesha is in town he can not stay away and it may cost him his life and maybe hers as well. Will Kane's family learn to understand that he has found the one? The other half of his soul?
Kane is so sweet and caring. He is always protective over Damesha, even standing up to his family. Damesha is smart and strong-willed. She has a secret of her own also. These two characters have an unbreakable bond it seems from the beginning.
I was a little disappointed in the wording errors I came across. Sometimes when the name should be Kane they actually put Cade. Some sentences seemed turned around also. But overall the book is a mix of sweet, sultry, hot sex scenes and some drama. The story is a new take on the shifter world and definitely worth checking out. It is a surprise in the paranormal genre.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is my first foray into Selina Coffey. I came across her on one of the paranormal sites that I follow. I love finding new writers and also I love shifter books. So I assumed that this would be a good fit. And boy was I ever correct. I have to say that I did enjoy being introduced to the Alexander Brothers. We have Kane, the baby brother, the hero of this story. Cade, the oldest brother, and the leader of the family. Also we have Jacob who we do not know anything about. Finally we have Jadrian, the adoptive brother.
This story is about Kane and a writer named Damesha. They're meeting, if you believe in fate, would be considered that. I just love the relationship. Even though the story was short it did not have come across that in the book. They did end up falling in love over the course of three months and I did enjoy that because it seemed more natural versus the instant love that so many paranormal/shifter tomance writers tend to do.
This story did end with a cliffhanger of a sorts and I want to know what ends up happening with Damesha's vision.
Not a bad read and a lot of readers will like it. I'm more critical with my books and what I expect. To be honest at the beginning it started out ok. A little slow and although Kane and Damesha had some chemistry there were times it was stagnant and times it felt rushed. Thats the best I can describe it. Almost reads like a YA but not. It did feel wavy with the plot as you get through the book. I put this book down a lot trying to read it. I liked both characters. I think it could flow better and not feel so choppy and smooth it out a little. Otherwise not a bad book at all. I wish we could do 1/2 stars. I wont read the next one but I dont want to discourage anyone who enjoys it. This was a solid 2 1/2 stars for me. Not quite the 3 but not a 2 either. I DO want to give her props for good story development too. Especially the background and the topic Damesha was writing about. Could use some better editing.
Kane is a sweet and steamy romance between Damesha and Kane, but I found myself having to go back and reread the blurb about the shifter part. There is a bit of suspense surrounding Kane, but about 75% of the book is what I would contemporary romance. Other than Damesha's psychic ability, which isn't prevalent through most of the story, there's little in the way of the supernatural. From what is given about Kane's family through much of the book, his older, overbearing brother could've been nothing more than just that. He didn't have to be a shifter for that. The romance part is good, but just another romance, and by the time it got to the shifter part of the story, it all felt a bit rushed. Overall, an okay romance read with a smattering of a shifter tale at the end. The writing style is good and the pace is steady but fell short on the shifter side.
The characters are not well developed and neither is the story. The book appears to be randomly thrown together with horrendous editing. There is slight chemistry between Kane and Damesha but not enough to sustain this storyline. Since when have black eyes been anything but creepy?!
Although this series isn’t the usual shifter tale of wolves, bears, lions, etc., the idea of shifters taking any form is refreshing but there is very little shifting—only mysterious background sounds. There are other factions mentioned—the Mungons (unknown origins as no description is given) and the Vampires. But again, no action and only murmuring about them.
Disappointing introduction to the series. I can only hope the second book, Cade, is more entertaining with better editing.
On my Were Scale of Hotness, 2 stars...barely. Proceed with caution.

••••••••••
REVIEW: KANE is the first installment in Selina Coffey’s contemporary, adult ALEXANDER SHIFTER BROTHERS paranormal, romance series focusing on the Alexander brothers. This is shifter Kane Alexander, and Damesha Parker’s story line.
Told from dual third person perspectives (Kane and Damesha) KANE focuses on the building but forbidden relationship between shifter Kane Alexander and author Damesha Parker. Damesha Parker is a New Yorker of African American decent and is heading to Kansas to do some research for a new book about the local history of slavery where she will meet Kane Alexander, and within weeks our heroine will fall in love with the town and the man that calls to her heart.
Damesha has a secret-she is a little bit psychic- with the ability to ‘see’. Our heroine is gifted with visions and premonitions of the future but what Damesha doesn’t realize is that the man with whom she is falling in love is more than a ranch hand-he too, is supernaturally gifted-a shifter with the ability to shift into virtually any animal he wants. What ensues is the building romance between Damesha and Kane but a romance forbidden by the pack Alpha-Cade Alexander.
KANE is a slow-building, introductory story line that missed the mark on many levels. The shifting into jungle /pet/zoo animals felt farcical, and the gestational observations were less than believable. The character building was limited-I was hoping for some more background information about Kane (and his brothers) including the who, what, where and why of their abilities; the local shifter history and their connection to the town is all but non existent. The premise is interesting but needs to reveal more background about the characters; the characters felt one-dimensional; the romance struggles due to a lack of emotional ‘feels’. The series has potential but the author needs to ‘up’ the details in both character and world building.
Also, another round of editing may catch some issues of grammar and juxtaposed names.
3.5 Stars for the start of this compelling shifter series.
Damesha leaves New York City for a visit to Kansas to research a Civil War/abolitionism figure for a book. Kane is a local who Damesha meets in a coffee shop. He gives off the impression of being a poor ranch hand, but his wealth isn't the only secret he's got.
Lots of potential here for a terrific shifter series. I like that Damesha has her own little paranormal secret, and I like the way the author wrote her with a balance of confidence and humility; she was strong, but not belligerent. I also like the dysfunctional dynamic in Kane's family - it has lots of potential for drama and plot development. The teaser at the end for Cade's story has me hooked.
I would have liked to get more backstory/origin story on Kane's particular kind of shifter, since they are unlike any I've ever read about. Pacing might be improved. More specifically, it took me at least 50 pages to get hooked into the story and then the last 30 pages seemed to rush. And can someone explain the lady at the airport? Was she real?
The Alexander Brothers are a rare breed of shifters, they can shift into any animal they want, but they are very, very private and will not mate with humans at all for fear of exposure.
Kane Alexander is the youngest of the brothers and the black sheep if you will,he will not live under the same codes that his brother Chief of the clan imposes. At first impression, you would think that Kane is just another small town hick, but he is by far that at all. He sets his eyes on the new girl in town Damesha against all the warnings from his brother Cane about being with a human... I could result in their deaths, but Kane is hell bent on staying with her if it means leaving all he has ever known. Damesha was always different as a child, but her grandmother stifled her abilities, so she always kept them to herself, but not now that she has seen one of Kane's brother is in danger. This just might change the outlook of Cane and the Clan, or will it be her death?
Kane is Book 1 of Selina Coffey's Alexander Shifter Brothers series. Ms. Coffey is a "new to me" author and I was certainly impressed. I enjoyed getting to know both Kane and Damesha. They seemed to have great chemistry and I finished it very quickly.
There were certainly some loose ends that I hope are tidied up in the rest of the series. Kane is a unique kind of shifter and I'd love to hear more of the back story. Cade also seems to be a bit of a hard @$$ and I look forward to reading his story.
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this story provided by the author.
Good story of feelings, magic vs psychic, seeing daydreaming and dreams that come true. Secret unveiled, looking forward to the next story of this series.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
I actually started writing my review before I finished reading the book because I needed to get my thoughts down.
I could not get lost in this book. Every time I almost did, something would happen to throw me off. From the multiple uses of the wrong name to turned around phrases such as “You need to spend more time in that office and less time outside,” to unrealistic things, it was just very difficult to get lost.
This needs some serious, serious editing. The beginning was good, I could tell this book had a lot of potential but then it just started to go downhill. I also don’t know how I feel about these guys being able to turn into any kind of animal. It just doesn’t make sense when there are elephants and monkeys where there shouldn’t be. It just took some of the realism out of it for me.
I know it’s a fantasy fiction book with shifters but there needs to be some realism.
The cover is great, I would probably think that this would be a wolf or a bear shifter book, it’s eye-catching but I don’t think the story inside matches. As I said, there was massive potential for this book, it just really needed some editing.
Nothing shifter happens until 80% in. Hardly anything paranormal. The weird noises could have been explained by someone trying to break her sanity to get her to leave. And when he finally reveals his shifter nature to her, she screams for like two seconds and then she’s OK. I get it, she is psychic, but she’s suppressed that side of her pretty much all of her life, so it felt weird that she just went from catatonic to accepting in a matter of seconds. And the gaslighting! He made her think she was going mad, and only after his brother almost broke her does he say anything, and never apologizes for making her think she was imagining things. I wished she had gone back to New York then, fuck this asshole. He’s never been honest with her, and he justifies it by saying “well, she’s got a secret of her own” Dude! so not the same! She didn’t gaslight you! And none of them are held accountable for all the shit they did to her. Cade just accepts her and that’s it. Never faces any consequences for all the stuff he pulled. Same for Kane. The MCs hide the most important things from each other, I hate that. They can’t possibly love each other if they don’t trust the other person. Another thing is that 80% of the book goes by and we know nothing of the shifter world, and then the author tries to cram it all in that last 20%. It felt rushed for obvious reasons, and as a result, a bunch of things are introduced but not explained at all. And, lastly, the whole pregnancy thing. How can she not notice something is weird when she has a bigger belly each day? And how can’t she figure out he knows when he touches her bigger than normal belly and says nothing? It made her seem stupid. I would have given it a higher rating if not for this stupid last 20%, it really ruined the book for me.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Hmm. I enjoyed this story and it has a boat load of potential. 3-3.5 stars.
I really enjoyed the different shifter aspect of this story. Not only was Kane a shifter, he could shift into any animal.. cool right? I thought so. The storyline is interesting and different. The characters are likeable. Theres a good mixture of sexy, sweet and angst in here to keep things fresh.
Why not 4 or 5 stars?...
- the over use of Demesha. She called herself by her name when talking in her POV which baffled me to no end aswell as threw me off guard. - the lack of history on the characters in general. I found it really hard to connect to them when I didn't know a lot about them in the first place. - lack of information on the shifter background.
There isn't a lot i diskliked per say I just feel the story is missing a few things that would of made it 5stars for me in my opinion. However this is only the first in the series so I will wait for the next release as that may hold more information that this one lacked.
Like I said it's enjoyable, short and sweet. I enjoyed it I just didn't love it. It has a tonne of potential and I have a lot of faith that this author is definitely on the right track. Her writing has a distinct style that I haven't read before and I enjoyed it.Her characters are great. The World she's wrote holds so much potential for greatness due to its diversity, the possibility are kinda endless here. This won't be the last I read from her for sure and I'm looking forward to what she bring to the table next.
The prevalence of shifter romance novels on the market means that it is difficult to stand out. Unfortunately, this novel is not all that different from other books in the genre. However, the story is still really good and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Just because a book is like many other in a genre does not make it a bad book, especially if the reader likes the formula of the genre (and all genres have a formula), which I do. The only real thing that I did not enjoy about the book is that there are several places in which time has passed, but the author is not careful to indicate to the reader that it has done so, and that creates some confusion at times. I would really have loved to have more information about Elspeth, the slave whose story Damesha goes to Kansas to research in the first place. I get the sense that her story is important to the overall story of the family. Perhaps there will be more information in further books in the series. I will say that I despise Cade, Kane’s brother. I understand that he is the head of the clan, and duty is very important to him, but I hope that something cracks his shell and makes him a likeable character in the future. While I really love the chemistry between Kane and Damesha, I have to say that my favorite relationship in the book is between Damesha and her rescued dog, Annie.
There are a number of sex scenes that skirt the edge of being explicit enough to push the book into “erotica” territory, so I would definitely recommend the book to only 18+.
The Alexander Shifter Brothers series by author Selena Coffey starts out with Kane. I really enjoyed this story. There is real chemistry here between the characters. I also would want more from the series in the future. It pulls me in and doesn’t let go. I love stories I can sink into and this is one of those kinds of stories. Dameska her best friend finds a beagle wandering the street. She wants Dameska to keep it because she cannot have pets in her house. Dameska is a great friend and agrees to help. But she is leaving in a week and wonders what she will do with a dog. Some other great things about her are she has dreams that sometimes come true. Gets a deja vu feeling a lot. She is a well written character. She is caring and strong. I liked that about her. She is not a weak person she is strong and self-reliant. Kane is kind and caring. He scares off a bigoted police man who is harassing her. Strong and handsome he has many secrets. I liked this kind heart. He is a strong character that I loved getting to know more. Over all a great fast paced book. I loved the characters and the storyline. I cannot wait for more from what promises to be a great series.
I discovered this book through an email is received. I was drawn in when I began reading it. Kane knows that he wants Damesha the moment he sees her. He knows that his family particularly his oldest brother won’t be happy with this. He is a shifter and his brother is their alpha. Damesha has a gift of her own however she has always been told to keep it a secret. They find themselves drawn to each other. Damesha is in town for research for a book she is writing. She just had a feeling that she needed to be in Kansas and so she went. She never expected to meet the man of her dreams. She wasn’t even looking. Kane makes her feel like no guy has ever made her feel before. She wants to give whatever is happening between them a shot. Will Kane stand up to his family for Damesha? How will she take finding out that Kane is a shifter? I like how this book is slightly different from other shifter books. Kane and fellow shifter can change into more than one animal. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series and see what happens next. I look forward to reading other books by Selina Coffey in the future. I was given this book in return for an honest review.
I really enjoy shifter books and this was a totally new look at shifters. Kamesha, who is a psychic but keeps it under wraps, travels to Kansas to do research for a book she is writing about a former slave who escaped to that state during the Civil War. She meets Kane Alexander when he makes the sheriff stop harassing her as she is sitting in the outdoor part of a restaurant. They form an instant connection. He is able to help her with her research and invites her to stay at a guest house on the ranch where he lives. When a steamy romance develops she moves in with him. She is unaware he is a shifter and he is forbidden by his brother, the clan leader, to let her know. This is really a great book and I enjoyed it tremendously. I received a free copy from the author and am voluntarily writing a review because I want to let others know about it. I highly recommend reading this book to find out how Kane and Kamesha are able to get an HEA.
This was such a really good book, it keep my attention from beginning to end. I loved the chance way Kane and Meisha met him coming to her rescue right away you could just imagine the way those two were falling in love almost immediately. They grew together in such a fun way slowly getting to know each other over the months. The mysteries and secrets were very well kept and really I was guessing and getting it wrong every time. This is not your run is the mill shifter books, and wow once you find out what's going on its so exciting. I can't wait to read the next one and find out what's going on with Cade. I do hope in the next one we get to experience the birth of Kane's baby. I really liked Selina's writing style and will be reading much more of her books. I reviewed this book as a arc reviewer.
k 1) (Kindle Edition) I voluntarily ARC for honest review. This story take place in New York City , where 28 year Damesha Parker is a psychic and writer/researcher on African-American anthologies and biographies. Her best friend Erika has find a puppy and wondering if Damesha , will have her. Now the puppy name is Annie. Damesha is going on a road trip from NYC to Kansas. In Kansas , she meets Kane Alexander for the first time . He has a secret , also. I love and recommend this book to everyone 😆 😙 The strong structure storyline and well developed characters and supporting characters brilliant exquisitely well written . The story is drama rom-com adventure emotional rollar coaster captivating sizzling chemistry strength of character intriguing hot streamy explosives animalistic sex and captivating from start to finish 💋 💖
Damesha is researching a book when she meets Kane. It turns out that Kane can help Damesha with her research. As these two spend time together they develop feelings. Not everyone is happy about this. Kane's keeping a family secret and his family wants Damesha gone. Will the family get their way or will Damesha's own secret help her have a HEA? This is the first book in the Alexander Brothers series. Overall there is a good plot line for this series. I liked Kane but his brothers, especially Cade, is going to be hard to like. Will this book make it to the "keeper shelf"? Probably not. Will I read the rest of the series? Yes, my curiosity on where the series is headed has been piqued.
* I received an Advance Readers Copy of this book from the author thru Shifted Sheets which I am voluntarily reviewing*
Damesha hasn't always had an easy life. Being brought up by her grandmother who denied Damesha's claims of being some sort of psychic. So as she was getting older she tried to ignore that as much as possible due to people making fun of her or thinking she was crazy. Damesha is a writer and decides to go to Kansas to do some research for a new book. When she gets there, she runs into their sheriff who is obviously racist seeing as she is black with bright blue eyes. When he is harassing her, Kane walks up and tells the sheriff to leave her alone. Kane has grown up in this place as well as his family. The two of them get along perfectly and he helps her feel calm. They both have secrets but as things heat up will they be honest with each other? What will happen when Damesha finds out about shifters? Can love survive anything? I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. This set of books about the Alexander Shifter Brothers is very erotic with lots of hot and heavy sex and thrilling danger as the Murgon's a fanatical group of shifters try to kill off the brothers and most of the magical community. The brothers Kane, Cade, Jacob and Jadrian are all quite different in their personalities which makes the stories about them finding their mates all the more entertaining. Out of all of the brothers I enjoyed Kane and Damesha path to their happily ever after the best although they all still feature throughout the series. I especially like Annie, Damesha's dog she makes you love her from the beginning. A big thank you to Selina Coffey for the wonderful review copy.
This is my first book by Selina Coffey and I loved the different take on Shifters this book entailed. However, I had a hard time connecting with the characters due to the lack of background information and the ending left me wondering. This book has the makings of one great series and I enjoyed reading Kane and Damesha's story- I think it's just missing a bit of "meat on the bones" to make it an epic story.
All in all- I look forward to the next book in the series as Selina Coffey offers us a different take on Shifters which I find interesting.
I voluntarily received an ARC for my honest review.
This is a different kind of shifter story. One that really grabbed me and sucked me in from page one. Kane is the youngest brother and wow just wow. It is one of those books that for me was like a great history story that I wished I had had in school. GOOD AND telling but one that would have been banned for sure LOLn In case you are wondering YES There is HEAT!!! I am really looking forward to his clan leader, who happens to he is oldest brother's story next...AND I am so hoping she gives us all the brothers. Another really great thing is author Selina Coffey has given us other books to read and enjoy after you read Kane. So more bang for your buck!!!
When Damesha, a psychic who lives in New York City is called to Kansas to research a Civil War figure for a book. While in Kansas she meets Kane in a coffee show their attraction in immediate and she is instantly pulled to him for some reason. Paranormal secrets and shifters Lots of drama for Kane as he is not supposed to get involved with someone who is not in their clan. Lots of family drama and suspense. this is not like any other shifter story I have read, but it was interesting. Well written with enchanting characters. I received an arc copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
WOW! Definitely a different shifter story, and a great page turner. Damesha, a writer from New York, found herself chasing after answers to a slave who disappeared, rebelled, and fought for her freedom to live how she wanted and settled in Kansas of all places. Not but a few minutes in Kansas and Damesha finds herself already being treated poorly, until her knight in shining armor, Kane Alexander, shows up to protect her. They both have secrets they are trying to protect, but an unexpected pregnancy has them confiding in each other and fighting to protect their relationship. Not a fan of cliffhangers, but can't wait to continue reading this series!
