The Wicked Vampire

Rate this book

The world melted away. Nothing mattered but this moment. His mouth on hers, the heat of his kiss, her own lightheadedness, and the way he awakened her.
If she had it her way, reality would never barge in to interrupt them again.

Sasha Ivanov is a vampire party girl, living life on the edge. Drinking, dancing, and hooking up--she’s tired of playing it safe. But when she finds herself tethered to a mortal enemy, she realizes she’s about to play the most dangerous game of all.

Liam Brún’s existence has been steeped in violence. A berserker, he is viewed as nothing more than a mindless fiend in the supernatural world, and Liam has no qualms with perpetuating that myth. Until he finds himself thrown into the company of a gorgeous vampire who claims he’s her mate. The stunning beauty is able to soothe the beast in his soul like no other ever could. But Sasha is his clan’s nemesis, and Liam and Sasha must decide: is loyalty most important? Or could their budding love trump all?

Wild child vampire, Sasha, goes to an extreme supernatural fight club only to find, Ewan, her sworn enemy, and her mate. The chemistry fries as hot as lighting and might just destroy them both. Because The Wicked Vampire is a modern day, paranormal, Romeo and Juliet. Two opposing faction, sworn enemies, a vampire and a berserker, are destined to be mated for life. Can they overcome their paranormal family and survive? What will they have to lose to keep this bond that can’t be denied?

This is my first read in the Last True Vampire series, but it won’t be my last. The Wicked Vampire could be read as a stand-alone but I will be back reading this series. Finding a new series that engages, entertains and submerges you in its fictional world, its worth a prized place on your shelf, and judging this series by The Wicked Vampire this is just that kind of series.

I received this ARC copy of The Wicked Vampire from St. Martin Press. This is my honest and voluntary review. The Wicked Vampire is set for publication Dec. 5, 2017.

I’m a fan of the forbidden and what can be more forbidden than finding your mate in the species that is determined to wipe out your race? A Romeo and Juliette story vampire style.

The Beserkers are interesting to me and the author just amped up there appeal through Ewan and changed the way I would like to see the outcome of this series. I no longer hope for the Beserkers to be wiped out.

I’m really curious now what Gregore did to bring the wrath down on his race from the vampire he was working with all those years ago. If it was mentioned in a previous book, I don’t remember but I’m thinking it will be one of the reveals towards the end. I would love to see Gregore’s downfall and for the rest of the clan to break free from him.

There are a lot of characters to this series. A lot of pieces to the puzzle and you will want to read this series in order or you’re gonna be lost. This was another great addition to the series. ARC provided by NetGalley.

DNF @ 60%

I think it’s time I parted ways with this series while we are still on almost friendly terms, I loved the first few books they were focused, fast paced and riveting to read, whereas it’s taken me two days to get to the 60% mark on this one, and almost nothing has happened. I think the problem I have mainly is that we are on book six, and with the amount of couples that are now involved, not to mention the plethora of secondary characters, all of whom have their own POV’s and separate plots which are playing out as well, the actual basis and original points for the story when it originally started back with Mikhail have been completely lost. So much so that I can’t definitely remember what started everything off, or why there are so many people now involved in it.

Everything is still very much unresolved (apart from people pairing off) and with every new character addition even more secondary plot points have been included along the way, so that over six looooonnnnnngggg books nothing really feels like it has moved along at all for quite a while. The original point of the story seems to have now been pushed far, far into the background. And I feel I have lost momentum as much as the books have because of it. Lots of sex in this one though, whole chapters of it in fact, and I know it’s time to call it a day when I am skimming through it.

I love this authors writing, I just think this series may have been better being dealt with over a shorter number of books, then maybe everyone else’s stories be incorporated into it as secondary books, or a spin off series. I am in the minority in my feelings, and it’s likely to be more of an ‘it’s not you it’s me’ type of scenario, because I struggled with the previous book as well for pretty similar reasons.

ARC generously provided via Netgalley, I am sorry I cannot provide a more positive review on this occasion.

I’m coming into the series without having read the other books and while there were obviously some history there that I didn’t fully understand, the author did a great job of making it pretty easy to catch up.

Sasha and Ewan shouldn’t work because they are mortal enemies but somehow they do. As much as they try to resist, they can’t. The plot was interesting and I even liked that even though Ewan was one of the strongest men, he was different with Sasha.

The writing was strong. Good characterization. An entertaining read.

The Wicked Vampire brings together two people that are part of clans that are lethal enemies, there is hardly any chance that they will find a way to be together.....or will love find a way....

The Wicked Vampire is a stimulating and on the seat of your pants type of reading, I never know what to expect from this author when I pick her up and I made the mistake of not reading the blurb so I got pulled into a story this way and that and was pulled into one hell of a ride that Kate Baxter writes. I was really intrigued because I haven't read books 3-5 so I was hoping that I wouldn't be too lost and I really wasn't. The author does a decent job of relaying some background information on this world that she has created and we deal with some intensity of the plot and more dramatics when it comes to the relationship between Sasha and Ewan....so lets get down to the good and dirty details that had me addicted....

The Key players for the Wicked Vampire are:

Sasha Ivanov, she is our heroine of the story, and is a vampire but is a bit of a party girl....she loves to drink and dance and get loose. Since losing her soul from being turned, she is looking for any way to "feel" something even if it means living on the edge
Ewan Brun, our cunning hero, and is part of the most powerful Beserker clan who hunts down vampires and dhampires. He tends to fight in underground fighting rings to get money for himself and his cousin.

Sasha is out with her closest friend, and looking for something with danger and edge and attends an underground fight not having any clue that she has just found her mate who has brought back her soul to her. Only there is one problem....he is a beserker, fierce and unstoppable and her enemy but they can't stop having sex with each other. Even though Ewan knows he should kill Sasha since she is a vampire and their people have been at war for hundreds of years, there is something more to Sasha and he will do anything to protect her. At first, there is a powerful chemistry that is like lighting for them, but soon the sexual moments turn into something stronger between Ewan and Sasha and they know that their future is bleak.
She owned him. Body. Mind. Soul. And even...his heart. Ewan was in love with Sasha, and the realization shook him to the core.
There is no way that their clans could ever understand how they could mate, and their relationship could come at a high cost. I would say that this book had a hint of a Romeo and Juliet retelling, especially with these two groups being at odds and when I mean odds.....they see one and they kill. it's so ingrained in them, so the fact that these two could come together and form such a strong bond is remarkable and seeing the way they fight for each other and fight for a way to be together is pretty impossible but I adore the way they find their "way" and it's not an easy path for either of them. Kate Baxter just lit a fire under my booty with this story and I just didn't want to put it down and stayed up late reading it because the intensity of the plot was so overpowering I just didn't want to be free of it. Definitely not your conventional vampire romance so buckle your seat ladies and gents because you are in for a wild time!!

The Wicked Vampire was a on the edge of your seat, thrilling and raw and full of edges you never anticipate and SUPERB!! I can't wait to read more of this stunning series.

The love/hate star crossed lovers tale between recently turned vampire Sasha and berserker, Ewan was a good addition to the series that provided a bit more backstory to some of the other fractions and also moved the main plot along. It still leaves some unanswered questions and hints at other possible couples but the series continues to move forward.

The jumping between POVs and the different stories going on simultaneously reminded me of Kresley Cole’s IAD series.

The romance between Sasha and Ewan was definitely slow in coming out. There is insta-lust but the emotional ties, the romance and love, that had to grow between them through shared experiences and time spent together. I was’t sure how I’d be able to follow the story since I skipped the last book about Saeed but I’m glad that I did since his connection to Sasha would have put a damper on this story. It was hard enough reading through Sasha’s hurt and broken heartedness over him in this one (that was thankfully short-lived and brief) but a whole book about it would have been too much for me.

Ewan was a jerk in the beginning and I hurt for Sasha even though she sent her own mixed signals but it made sense that a berserker and a vampire would have to jump some hurdles to accept their bond and these two had to jump their fair share. There is a lot of dark and bitter history between them that is something that can't be easily brushed off or forgotten.

Even with the deception, the lies and the pushing away, the author steered clear of overly dramatic angst. It still packed a punch and delivered on a believable couple that learned to love and trust again. Although not my favorite in the series, Ewan and Sasha did grow on me and I has happy they were able to reclaim their chance at a HEA. I’m still curious to see what the end game is in all this so I’ll definitely be checking back in!

Don’t let this being the sixth in series put you off reading this. I hadn’t realised it and haven’t read any of the earlier stories but I still found this a very enjoyable paranormal romance with quite a few twists to make it a delightfully different read.

In this paranormal existence, the powerful berserkers have eliminated most vampires and Sasha Ivanov is one of the few still surviving. She’s very much a loner, but still party girl out for the next thrill. When she discovers a supernatural fight club she discovers one of the fighters is her soul mate - Ewan Brún. The only problem is he is a berserker . . . . Their attraction is mutual, hot and forbidden! Can they resist each other? Can they trust each other?  They should be mortal enemies but will love find a way to bring them together and breakdown barriers that will thwart them?

What an exciting - and steamy - read this proved to be. The angst and turmoil of going against all they’ve been brought up to believe is portrayed brilliantly. The scene building is brought to life in the descriptions, making the reader feel like a witness to the unfolding events. This is a Romeo and Juliet type romance, bringing together two people from opposing forces. There’s much still to be resolved in future but this worked well as a standalone - I need to read the earlier books once I’ve got my tbr pile down to a more manageable size! Meanwhile, I’ve found another author I need to keep an eye out for!

I requested and received a copy of this novel, via NetGalley. This is my honest review after choosing to read it.

My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!!
***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!! Yes, I got a review copy of this book, but no one tells me what to think, feel, or write about any book!

This is the 6th book in the series, and it is for adults only due to the violence and steamy content. While it is not mandatory to read the series in order, it does make it more if you do! I hope you know what I mean!

I couldn’t put this book down. I was already feeling for Sasha in the last book, so I loved that this was her story. She had to have a unique mate to thrill her and cause all sorts of trouble for both of them along the way. They both had some communication issues and trouble figuring it all out while both resisted along the way. So they had vampire trouble, berserker trouble, and don’t forget demon trouble. This is an action-packed book, and I loved every moment of it!

I highly recommend to any vampire fans who love mixed worlds (fae, vamp, shifter, demon, berserker, and mage included) that are full of action and intrigue to keep you enthralled in the book!!!

The Wicked Vampire is the sixth book in the Last True Vampire series. With that being said, this is the first book I've read in the series and I've had no problem following the story though I do wish I started reading from book one.

I enjoyed the storyline, pacing, and characters of this story. The story started right off the bat with a great amount of action that continued till the very end of the book, leaving me at the edge of my seat wanting to know more. I adored the romance between Sasha and Ewan, their chemistry and desire for one another was absolutely off the charts.

I throughly enjoyed The Wicked Vampire and plan to start this series from the beginning, book one, because it really is an amazing read and also due to the fact that I would like to know what happened between other characters in the previous books. This is definitely a book I recommend checking out.

4.5 Stars.

I've missed a few of the previous books in this series so I was very much looking forward to starting this one and returning to the exciting paranormal world that Kate Baxter has created. "The Wicked Vampire" did not disappoint. It contained all of the elements that I have come to expect from this series. I loved this passionate tale of Forbidden love in the underworld.

"Aren't we supposed to establish some sort of safe word before we get started?"
"Safe word? Oh love, there isn't a word in existence that will keep you safe from me."

The story of Sasha and Ewan sure was a bumpy, but thrilling ride. Their relationship was filled with drama and danger and I feared what was in store for the couple. Sasha and Ewan's love was forbidden, they were supposed to be enemies-never to fall in love, but they did and what followed was a book that I read with my heart in my mouth for the majority of the time. I was scared to turn the pages, knowing that Sasha and Ewan were taking so many risks being together. I had a whole lot of bad feelings about their romance.

"He could never, ever let her go.
And his selfish want of hers was bound to destroy them both."

Despite all of the problems that Sasha and Ewan faced, they did make a gorgeous couple. Every step of the development of their relationship was just beautiful to watch. So much passion, so much chemistry and so much heart. There was no way that Sasha and Ewan could resist each other even when being together wasn't going to be easy. I loved both Sasha and Ewan. They were strong and stubborn characters with enough courage between them to face their obstacles. Because Sasha and Ewan were both stubborn there relationship made for some heated arguments and banter but it also made for some steamy scenes. This couple were insanely hot together. I loved everything about their relationship.

"He touched her as though he'd known her body for centuries
and spent every single night learning it's secrets."

If you love paranormal romance that contains a sexy alpha and a gutsy heroine, I highly recommend picking this standalone story up. Now, I need to catch up on the stories that I have missed.

I always love reading Kate Baxter's vampires. She writes them very well. Each book in this series just gets better and better. One second you are wondering what's going to happen next, and then the next thing you know what you thought would happen didn't and what did happen surprises the crap out of you.

How could you not love that in a series?

I think we've all been waiting for a berserker to be a hero in a story. Come on, how could you not want them to have one. They are so bad...you just want them to realize that everything (life) isn't always black and white.

Because of the fact that I really wanted this story I couldn't wait for it yet I was also worried about how it was going to turn out. I shouldn't have worried. I ended up loving it! It's one of those books you want to go back and read again because as you were reading it you felt like you were on a fast moving train and knew you had to have missed something!

I know I didn't miss anything, just being a bit dramatic in my way of telling you have fast this book moved. You'll love both Sasha and Ewan and their struggles, more so for Ewan then Sasha, it's the berserker thing. I so didn't want this story to end I was enjoying it that much.

Of course it did end but I will say that even though I hated for that to happen the ending of the book cleared up so much for me. I'd love to mention more about it but...who wants to ruin a story for someone else. Just believe me when I say this, if you enjoy vampire romance this is a series you'll really enjoy.

Oh my...it has been quite some time since a supernatural romance has hit the pages with THIS much steam! Kate Baxter's latest vampire/berserker romance will have you begging for more of Ewan and Sasha.

Sasha's had a bit of a wild streak. The vampire she loved has found his mate. Now that he's returned and taken back the coven, she's got time on her hands and stress to burn. When supernatural clubs become boring, her friend leads her to a dark world vampires never dare to enter. But this dangerous path leads her to a future she NEVER would have considered.

Ewan has spent centuries under the thumb of the berserker clan's leader and he's tired of trading one pair of shackles for another. To release his anger and make some cash to escape, he's been fighting in an underworld underground fight club...trick is it's to the death and he's currently undefeated. His focus is unwavering until a spitfire little vampire walks in to the club and sets his sense ablaze.

Their chemistry is hot, their tempers hotter, and when they get down and dirty...oh my...you'll wanna read this in a very air-conditioned room. And if two hot-headed immortals isn't enough to strike your fancy....well vampires and berserkers are mortal enemies so this is just a Romeo & Juliet with more fangs and claws. Throw in some demons who are not too pleased that Ewan is winning fight after fight and this is one story you CAN'T put down!

Wicked Vampire by Kate Baxter features Sasha and Ewan, a vampire and a berserker. Two enemy factions for centuries. One with a crazy leader who even treats his own kind with violence and fear.

Sasha went a little wild after being turned and having Saeed leave town and find his mate. She gets to the point where the bar scene is getting kind of boring and her friend decides to show her some underground fighting in hopes of getting rid of Sasha's boredom. First step into the building and she finds herself tethered. Her soul returned. Her surprise turns to dread when she realizes it is a berserker that has tethered her. Up until this point Sasha just thought she was being trouble. Now she's in BIG trouble.

Ewan is already defying his master. He's fighting in he underground fights to earn some money to try and get free of Gregor. Gregor hoards all the money, making the berserkers live in squalor to further his cause against the vampires. Ewan and his cousin Drew are sick of it. However, Ewan does get caught when his fascination with a vampire is shown publicly and word gets around as to where he has been. Now he needs to do some smooth talking to keep Gregor from catching onto his plan and taking all of his money. He offers to use Sasha to gain information on the vampire covens so Gregor can make plans for attack.

The two start seeing each other and try to balance the inner turmoil of a berserker who does not know how to show love and a vampire who is desperate to be loved. Their feelings get tested when some demons get tired of losing money in the fights and want Ewan to throw a fight. In other words, let himself be killed. Now the two must figure out what they are willing to do for each other.

I went into the story thinking I was going to like Sasha. And I do. But she wasn't as sassy and sarcastic as I thought she was going to be. She was more hurt from everything she's gone through and is tired of being disregarded. She's strong, don't get me wrong, but she seemed more sad and hurt. Ewan is a great hero. I know berserkers are supposed to be like, the most hated species, but Ewan and his determination to get away from Gregor made him different. He took shit from every direction and kept a smile on his face. He was frustrated with himself when he couldn't express his feelings, but I fell in love with this berserker.

There was some good action with the demons, and the mystery surrounding Gregor and his plans is continued through this series. I definitely recommend reading The Lost Vampire first. It will help to understand a little of what is going on with the characters in Gregor's storyline. It has been awhile for me since I read it so I was a little bit lost in that area. I actually wish I had of done a reread of The Lost Vampire first, or maybe that Gregor's part in the previous book was explained more. I remembered Saeed and Cerys and Rin's parts, but not Gregor.

I was also disappointed that we didn't get to see many of the other vampires from the previous books. Lucas does play a part, but we don't even get to see Mikhail's reaction to Sasha and Ewan's bond.

I'm definitely glad to see Sasha and Ewan get their HEA. Their romance made the story. I didn't feel like the demons made very formidable enemies, but really, they are fighting a berserker and a vampire. They really didn't have too much of a chance. It seems Gregor still has some deal with Saeed, that I can't remember, going on and I think that will continue on into our next few books. This review was originally posted on Rantings of a Reading Addict

I received this book for free from Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Kate Baxter wrote a Wicked take on this Vampire Romeo and Juliet.  Sasha and Ewan are not only opposites as can be, they are also of different species and to boot.  You see, their kinds are of mortal enemies.  A relationship between a Vampire and a Berserker is unheard of, and most definitely frowned upon because, well, they would kill each other first before having any kind of contact with the other.  Of course, Fate, aka Baxter, has other plans for them, and it’s a whirl of a ride for these two.

Newly turned vampire Sasha is on a wild streak but her partying days will come to a quick halt after being tethered to a berserker.  Unwillingly and unexpectedly, these mortal enemies actually like each other and I was amused with their helplessness.  It was entertaining to see them try to refuse the brewing romance, but as a reader, you know it’s a losing battle.  Like I said, it was fun watching them try.

I didn’t think I would like Sasha.  From the last installment, I just didn’t like her position in Saeed’s coven. I thought she was a bomb waiting to happen.  At first, her childish outings and thrill-seeking were annoying, but Baxter showed a whole other side of Sasha that left me liking her in the end.  Sasha showed growth and strength that is likable and even lovable to Ewan.

Ewan, on the other hand, is so easy to like.  First of all, he’s a badass.  He can fight and kick ass like there’s no tomorrow. He’s broody and scary, but as you get to know him, you know he’s just a big teddy bear in a sexy bod.

Overall, I thought it was a good read.  A slow start, but if you hang tight, it will get really interesting and it will be a nonstop action.  When the rest of the clan joins in on all the fun, it gets even better.  I like that there is more progress in what’s happening in this world.  There are alliances forming and foes brewing up trouble.  Now, that’s intriguing.  Not that the romance bit is not good, but I hope Baxter expands on the world a bit more.  I want more of it.

New to me author, Ms. Baxter blows me away with this story. When I see the word "wicked", I'm intrigued. Vampires are a plus to read about. This book was completely unexpected. I may have not have read the previous books, but now I want to read them all. This story was still quite easy to get into even without reading the prior ones. My guess is that it would be better with the background. Even without the background, it is clear how much Sasha hurt.

Sasha Ivanov has been the responsible one. She's been the loyal one who has always taken care of her master. She even held his coven together whilst he was out "searching" for himself... searching for a mate when Sasha was waiting right there for him. Having not read the previous books, I have to say, I'm all with Sasha. She's been taken for granted. It appears, good girls finish last. They are relegated as a "best friend" status forever. Or worse, a buddy. Fed up, Sasha takes a walk on the wild side when her master comes home with another woman. She cuts loose by from drinking to underground cage fights. Sasha is going to experience what she's missed out on. One thing she's always looked for was her soul mate. The last thing she expects is to find one... and one that is her sworn enemy. And why does he have to be so sexy hawt?

Ewan Brún is disenchanted and ready to leave his leader. As a Berseker, they used to be the most feared. Now they are just feral dogs without a master and with no money. Instead of respect, people scorn them and treat them like garage. How did it come down to this? Revenge. Ewan wants a better life and when he finds it, he doesn't want to let go.

This story is a souped up Romeo and Juliet in a bloody MMA style. I loved it. I enjoyed the violence and the recklessness between two lovers who have nothing to loose. They tried to do what they were bred for and after being taken for granted, these two coming together is a category 5 tornado of destruction. If only they would turn even. Unfortunately, they both are good and they even though there are probably better benefits going evil, they still side with good. Their chemistry is rough and erotic. They like it hard and bloody which is arousing for me. I also hurt seeing them together because Sasha is so damaged, she tears Ewan apart when all he wants to do is be there for her. He still has a heart and wants to care for her. She is in a "devil may care attitude" and keeps him like a dirty secret. For Ewan, it is trading one shitty master for another.

There are several conflicts in this story that are just depressing. It seems evil and the crazy hold the good cards whilst the good guys keeping holding the losing hand. I enjoyed the despair and gloom throughout the story and how hope seems to constantly be ripped away. Just when it feels like it is completely hopeless, Ms. Baxter is able to find a solution out. This keeps a reader on their toes and makes for a riveting read. This paranormal romance is recommended for readers who enjoy enemies to lover themes with complicated relationship.

This book contains adult themes.

This book follows Sasha who is a vampire living on the edge with her nightlife habits and Ewan who is a berserker, which are vampire hunters. Ewan has been fighting at night to make some additional money and Sasha randomly meets up with him at a fight.

The author does a great job creating the chemistry between Sasha and Ewan. The chemistry felt almost instant from page one between the two characters. I enjoyed that we got POV of both Sasha and Ewan during their relationship. The big conflict is that berserkers are supposed to be killing vampires not getting into a relationship with one. Sasha and Ewan must get past a lot of their chemistry to establish a deeper relationship.

Sasha wasn’t trying to get to invested in Ewan in the beginning and most of the book since she had her heart broken in the past. I loved that she tried to remain as rational as possible during the relationship. She knew her limits and what she was expecting out of the relationship. Sasha stayed very level headed during the entire book and her insight during her chapters helped establish her as a strong character. I loved that we got to hear about Sasha’s life in the past as well as how she became a vampire.

Ewan was a completely different male lead. Ewan’s temper could get the best of him in a lot of situations and it was hard for him to control what was going on. I felt most of the book was centered around Ewan’s complicated life and the decisions that he had to make. I enjoyed being able to get Ewan’s perspective during his chapters because it gave a lot of insight onto what was going on with him. I enjoyed getting to learn more about Ewan’s world as I read and what he wanted to run from.

My major complaint would be that I read this as a standalone novel and felt like I was missing bigger pieces of the story. I could follow along what was happening between Sasha and Ewan, but there are chapters in between from other perspectives that I was not understanding at all. I get that this was building to a bigger picture so I would suggest reading this series from the beginning. The story switched to many POV’s so it was hard to follow when a random character was introduced with little to no background information.

I would suggest this as a great nighttime read. It was easy to get transported into this book and want to read a little bit each night. There were portions that were harder to put down, but I did find some natural stopping points when we were switching POV’s.

This is the first book I've read but the sixth book in this series. I had no problem following along with the story, but I truly wished I had started with the first book. There were things mentioned in this book that I missed from not reading the previous books in the series. I enjoyed the characters, the storyline and the flow of the story a lot. There was never a dull moment in this story between the characters. The action started from the very beginning and lasted until the very last page. It left me wanting the next book in this series because there will definitely be more; there's still a lot of unresolved issues and problems between the characters within this story. I loved every moment between Sasha (a vampire) and Ewan (a berserker). Their sexual chemistry was off the charts and they had no problem with their sexual desires for each other. I will say that this was one hot read! As forbidden as their love was, they were so right for each other, they just had to realize that in their own time. I enjoyed this book a lot, and I plan on going back and staring this series from the very beginning because it was a great paranormal read. I want to know what happened in the previous books between some of the characters in this book, because this story and this series has a lot more going on than the characters just finding their mates. I recommend everyone giving this series a try but I would also recommend starting this series from the beginning.

The latest book in the Last True Vampire series is a fantastic addition to the series. Ewan and Sasha are vibrant characters that has some wickedly absorbing chemistry that is full of energy that reaches out and grabs reader’s attention and their relationship is full of turbulence and hot, steamy passion. Stories where enemies becomes lovers are always interesting to say the least but The Wicked Vampire takes it to the next level with violent pasts, alpha leaders and a couple that keeps reader guessing throughout.

This fast paced story is full of twists and turns along with lots of exciting action that that gives readers quite the adrenaline rush including delicious shivers of anticipation which keep them glued to the pages awaiting the next excitement that this couple seems to find themselves embroiled in. Not only is the berserker alpha up to his full itinerary of schemes that is mysterious and complex but this couple find themselves on the wrong side of some nasty demons that want things their way.

Kate Baxter’s Last True Vampire series is well written, unique and full of fabulous characters that readers can’t help but fall for and find themselves caught up in their lives. The Wicked Vampire is no exception as I was completely captivated by Ewan and Sasha and I can’t wait to find out what happens next in this exciting world.

This is a new to me author; just one question, where have you been all my reading life? Even though this is the sixth story in the “Last True Vampire” series I felt it could be read as a standalone. With that being said, I will be reading the other books in this series. This is a very well written story. I enjoyed the heroine Sasha, but who wouldn’t like a reckless, feisty, party girl vampire? Sasha is bored and decides to go to an extreme supernatural fight club only to find, Ewan, a berserker, sworn enemy, and her fated mate. The chemistry is off the charts with Ewan and Sasha. Which takes us on twists and turns filled packed with action, hot sexy scenes, and a dominate berserker. Can a vampire and a berserker, two sworn enemies learn to love or will they betray each other for the sake of their families? You will have to get this and read for yourself, you won’t be disappointed, I know I’m not. I give this book 4.5 stars.

The minute I read the blurb to The Wicked Vampire I knew I had to read it. I love a good star crossed/enemies to lovers story and that is exactly what we got with this book. I lived Rwan and Sasha's passion and need fir one another and their driving force to be together despite obstacles keeping them apart.

I will admit there were times I was lost in the story as there was so much backstory and information the previous five books in the series, which I had not read. But I was more enthralled with Ewan and Sasha's story of two fated enemies in the past, a vampire and a beserker and the new ties they have due to their (unexpected and sometimes unwanted) mating bond.

I loved that Sasha was able to feel wanted and accepted and finally loved by someone who was devoted to her instead of feeling unwanted and second best. In addition I loved that Ewan's feelings for Sasha helped him regain his emotional capability to love and cherish someone. All in all, I really enjoyed this story and can't wait for the next one.

I would like to thank NetGalley and SMP Romance for an advanced copy of this book for an honest review. 4 stars! ~Ratula

**My thanks to NetGalley and St Martins Press for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**

Another epic instalment into the paranormal world where vengeance is common, lust is always there and finding your mate is the norm.

Sasha is one of Saeeds head of security and since his turning and return with his mate, Sasha has decided that she needs some her time and goes out in search of some excitement, pretty much leaving her duties behind her. It is following the excitement she craves that she first sees Ewan, a berserker trying to forge his own path.

Through the tether they soon find that things may not always be as they seem and that by trusting each other and talking to each other they are stronger and can accomplish more.

Both find a new sense of family and security that they never felt before, especially when it comes to being loved. A new sensation to both of them.

I really cannot wait to see what happens next in the series and who will get a HEA next.

This was my first read from this author and I really enjoyed her writing style. However, i just admit I was a bit confused as to some of the characters and the storyline. I think it’s cause i started with Book 6 in the series. Regardless i did enjoy this book. It was the classic tale of forbidden love, a Romeo and Juliet type of love.

Ewan was a sexy wild berserker!! And he met his match with the feisty vampire Sasha. Now the problem with these two bring true mates is that berserkers and vampires are sworn enemies, so that’s going to make for an always family dinner.

All an all I really did enjoy this series and getting lose in this amazing world spun by this creative and talented author. I will defiantly be reading more from this series and author!

You can follow along all right with this book, so it can be read as a standalone. In my opinion, you would enjoy it more if you read the previous books in the series first. Still an enjoyable read.

I really enjoyed this story. From the unimaginable to the absolute devotion in this story it brings you right along with the characters. A whole other world with vampires, dhampirs, demons, fae, and berserkers the cast is wonderful (both the good guys and the bad guys) and is very entertaining.

I gave this a three star rating because there were quite a few spots that seemed to bog down and lull in this book so I would switch to another and then come back. It is a beautiful story though and I would still recommend a read of it, where I got bogged down doesn't mean it would happen to someone else. I love the story of Sasha and Ewan.

REVIEW: THE WICKED VAMPIRE is the sixth instalment in Kate Baxter’s contemporary, adult LAST TRUE VAMPIRE erotic, paranormal romance series. This is vampire Sasha Ivanov, and berserker Ewan Brun’s story line. THE WICKED VAMPIRE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading the series in order as there is an ongoing premise throughout the series.

SOME BACKGROUND: Six hundred years earlier the Sortiari and the Beserkers had all but wiped out the vampire race from existence as retribution for the vampires killing most of the Beserkers female population. The Beserkers became the mindless killers, enslaved by the Sortiari, and are now seeking retribution for sins of the past.

Told from several third person perspectives including Sasha and Ewan THE WICKED VAMPIRE follows the building but forbidden relationship between newly turned vampire Sasha Ivanov, and berserker/underground fighter Ewan Brun. For hundreds of years the berserkers have been at war with the vampires-mortal enemies who have all but wiped one another off the face of the earth-only to come face to face with the unlikeliest of matings between a vampire and a berserker.

Sasha Ivanov knows that Ewan Brun is her mate when the male ‘tethered’ our heroine, returning her soul but the berserker species has been without females for hundreds of years, and the likelihood of Ewan recognizing his mate is a very low probability. As the relationship between our couple begins to build, threats against our heroine find Ewan willing to give up his life to save the woman with whom he is falling in love.

THE WICKED VAMPIRE follows several paths including the ongoing struggle of the berserker warlord Ian Gregor and his need for retribution and revenge, and his imprisonment of Rin, the mage. The Demon nation intends to control the berserker population by destroying our hero, one slice at a time.

The relationship between Ewan and Sasha is fated by DNA and blood but Ewan is unaware of the reasons why he is sexually and emotionally attracted to our story line heroine. Alpha and over-protective Ewan intends to keeps Sasha away from other males or outside threats to their growing relationship. The $ex scenes are numerous, erotic and intense.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including Sasha’s cover leader Saeed Almasi and his mate Cerys Bain; fellow vampires Diego and Bria; werewolf Lucas; Ewan’s cousin Drew self-proclaimed kind of the berserker clan Ian Gregor, as well as his cousin and second in command Gavin.

THE WICKED VAMPIRE is a fast paced, spirited story line; an imaginative tale about mortal enemies pushed together by fate and love; about the tragedy of betrayal and hundreds of years of retribution and revenge. The premise is energetic; the romance is emotional; the characters are passionate and hurting.

So far, this is my least favorite book of the series. And that's saying something because Jenner and Bria's book was also not a favorite. I hated what Sasha had become and was seriously hoping she would redeem herself for me like Saeed did. But she didn't. At all. If anything, she made me dislike her even more here. The worst part, though, was that there wasn't any Mikhail or Ronan! Not a single page. So sad considering they're my favorites.

Like I said, I hate what Sasha had become so honestly I wasn't looking too forward to her book. But I felt the same way about Saeed and I ended up really liking his. So fingers crossed, right? Well, that failed me. Sasha acted like a spoiled BRAT the entire fucking book. Like a petulant teenager who only cared about themselves and thought that the world owed them everything. I couldn't stand it and it really took away a lot of my enjoyment.

As for Ewan, I liked him a lot more in the beginning than I did at the end. I like a possessive man in my books, but he just got increasingly worse, to the point where it even annoyed me. I did like how he wasn't just some mindless berserker following Gregor, and was determined to find his freedom.

So Sasha has grown bored of the usual party scene and sleeping her way across the city, so one night her friend tells her of another supernatural gathering that just might excite her again. It's pretty much a supernatural death ring where two go in and only one comes out alive. The last thing Sasha expects is to get her soul returned to her by one of the fighters there...and by a berserker no less. Ewan feels a pull towards Sasha as well, and literally right after his fight he drags her to the bathroom and screws her there. Because that's totally hot and has Sasha lusting after him even more. Can you see my eyes rolling at this? All her life Sasha has been told that the tether is absolute, so she knows she can't fight against it. But I guess she tries. Maybe not. Because it's not long until she's seeking Ewan out at the fights again.

Ewan has been fighting for a little while now without Gregor's permission. He's trying to earn enough money to gain his freedom because he doesn't believe in this war and hates how they are being forced to live by their self proclaimed king. From the first moment he lays eyes on Sasha he craves to own her and that's a complication he doesn't need. Too bad for him he can't stay away from her. All too soon his secret is out but Gregor lets Ewan have his fun with Sasha as sort of a double agent.

And that's pretty much all this story is. Ewan and Sasha having sex and or fighting. I'm baffled that we're supposed to believe these two have fallen in love with each other when they never actually spend any time doing anything except those two things. They never even really talk. Also a big part of their story deals with demons. See, because Ewan always wins, this big shot demon has lost a lot money. Because, you know, why wouldn't he just start betting ON Ewan then. Instead, he decides that Ewan owes him all of his losses and he'll use Ewan's attachment to Sasha to get what he wants. It's all very ridiculous.

The main story of this series hardly moves forward at all. The most it did was thru Christian's actions (I think that's the wolf's name) with his spying and meetings. Which did bring about a realization to me that makes some things make more sense now. But there was just so little of it.

I do not know who the next book will be about, but I sure hope it shows us more of the bigger picture than this one did. I'd love to know how Mikhail and Claire's child is doing...

The Wicked Vampire is a brilliant paranormal suspense novel that is truly Kate Baxter at her finest in my humble opinion. She teases us with a partial glimpse at some devastating yet shocking secrets that just prove to intensify this already high stakes, high roller poker game. No punches are pulled as we watch two utterly shocked and completely baffled enemies that are brought together by the twisted plot of a ruthless Fate. Nothing could be farther from normal or quite as breathtaking as we watch this magnificent journey unravel before our eyes. It is truly like watching a caterpillar transform into the most stunning butterfly. Hold your breath but don’t close your eyes even for a second, or you will miss a brilliantly complex and beautifully superb plot play out to utter perfection!

Sasha is desperate to find herself after losing everything to the lie that she lived for centuries. In order to dull the overwhelming pain and brutal truth that is her shell of a life, she launches herself full force into any and every destructive behavior she can find. Whatever new flavor can dull her senses and blur her mind if her newest best friend. Nothing could have ever prepared her for the force of nature that obliterates her life and her heart. His name is Ewan, and he is the last creature that she would ever consider as playing any part in her sad excuse of a life. However, his role is one that will both shock and rock her world in so many ways. They have the Mount Everest of issues to overcome if they are to work together in order to figure things out. With their families and the world pitted against them, they are most definitely heading into complete and utter disaster. There is nothing on the face of the Earth that could make things between them work, or is there?

What a fantastic couple! There are few words to describe the utter magnificence of Sasha and Ewan. They are the most unlikely and in my opinion one of the most powerful couples in this incredible series. They have the most to lose, and in the midst of everything, they have the biggest and most sincere hearts. Only a love this pure will be able to bring about a change that will rock their world with powerful ripples that will be felt for a years to come. This is the perfect next step for this wonderfully extraordinary series! What a brilliant setup!

Kate Baxter is a true dream for the paranormal genre. She is a true word smith, and a fantastic creative force to be reckoned with! I have loved everything that I have read by her, and I am ravenous to read even more. She enriches this genre and proves with each amazing masterpiece that she creates that this genre is not fading away any time soon. In fact, she is proving just how much of a powerhouse she really is. Get ready world because I have a feeling that we haven’t seen anything yet!
