The Devil's Poetry by Louise Cole is a Kindle Scout book I won and is very intriguing. I love a good fantasy that is mixed with suspense and an urban setting. This is fast paced thriller that is pretty good for the most part. I had a few issues with her being true to her characters but that maybe just me. About half way through the book it lost focus a bit then got back on track. I really enjoyed it overall, except the character thing.

Ok before we do the review I have a huge bone to pick with the synopsis of book 2 which is at the back of this. HUGE spoiler so if you buy this book and really like it - stop before you get to that page. It really could've been done worded just that bit differently. I don't understand the need to stick a great big plot point so visibly for all to see. It just spoils it. Now there's no air of suspense for what happens next.
Anyway... this book. I really enjoyed it. It lulls you with its charm. It starts with a bred teenage girl seemingly getting caught in a bar brawl before being handed a mysterious book by a handsome stranger. Can't say that ever happened to me in my drinking teenage years. If it wasn't for the fact the book is an artefact that helps control peace or create violence dependent on how it's read that would be my perfect romantic scenario. Ok well, without the nightclub and fighting. Hmmm ok if a handsome guy gave me a book in a coffee shop then... where was I?
Oh yeah the backdrop to the story is potential World war 3. The powers that be are meeting for a peace conference. The idiots with their fingers on the nuclear buttons are itchy to press and it's up to Callie to stop impending disaster while all the while dodging death from evil demony types. One of the more scary thoughts I had from this book is ignoring the demons, this could so easily happen in the present climate.
It's fast paced, everything happens in just a few days so there's no let up in the action. I'd highly recommend it

“I won’t fight for one side or the other. I fight for them all”
Let me just start by saying that I was pleasantly surprised with The Devil’s Poetry. I received a Kindle ARC of this book and loved it! This book is definitely more powerful than it seems which is why I was so surprised. It follows Callie, a seventeen year old girl who is given a very powerful book, which apparently has the power to restore peace in her world. At the time, World War 3 is going on, taking young males from their home to the war field. Callie, after given the book, is now being hunted and therefore turns to The Order for help. But not everything is black and white and she struggles through this whole adventure.
I genuinely really loved Callie. She grew so much in this book but it was still kept very realistic. She didn’t all of a sudden have super fighting skills, but she adjusted at her own pace. And the fact that Callie can produce power from reading a book! That is amazing! It reinforces the fact that words are powerful and a reader can determine just how powerful these words are. This book gave me warlock vibes a bit too which just makes me like this even more.
This book had a very interesting writing structure as well. It was in multiple points of views. From Callie, to Jace (her bodyguard and part of The Order), to those who were hunting her and even the government officials. But in my opinion, it was executed really well because I was never confused. I actually like the different points of views because it gave you a better understanding of their world.
Jace and Callie. I actually really liked how their relationship was executed. This book did not focus too much on the romance and it was rather the plot that was more prominent. Although there was more adventure than romance, the romance still worked really well.
Louise Cole’s writing was incredible in my opinion. I really enjoyed her style of writing which made the book even better. It touches on a lot of moral issues and I’ve never read a book quite like this one. It is different and definitely worth the read!

Seventeen year old Callie's world is at the brink of WWIII. She and her friends, Gavin and Amber, watch as their classmates over the age of 18 join the mandatory conscription in case the peace talks between India and Pakistan fails, as England prepares for a nuclear war. While Callie's world is falling apart, she is still a normal teenager with somewhat normal teen problems. Her dad acts like she doesn't exist, the boy she spent the summer with is ignoring her, and every piece of technology she tries to use either blows up or just stops working!
Callie and her friends go clubbing to take their mind off everything that's happening around them. All of a sudden a fight breaks out, causing a stampede. In the chaos, she feels like she is being hunted by two men with glowing white eyes. A boy saves her from a violent attack and shoves an ancient book into her hands and tells her not to read it. Of course, she's a bookworm and can't help herself from reading the book!
She finds out a bunch of creepy white eyed men, Cadaveri, are looking for her because she's the Reader. The words in the book are "Devil's Poetry" for the Cadaveri as the energy created from the reading causes great pain for these creatures. Cadaveri reminds me of the soul sucking Dementor's from Harry Potter. They bring out your worst emotions and turn people against each other. The boy from the club, Jace, is a soldier/agent for a secret society that stops catastrophes before they happen using the book.
Devil's Poetry is a glimpse into our future with a fantasy twist. Just imagine what it would be like if all the wars and conflicts we have in the world became 100 times worse. Only a girl who has the power to project the words in the book can bring peace and balance into the world. Of course, there is the whole special snowflake thing going on. The girl wants to go back to her normal life and has to accept her special status. There are lots of YA fantasy book with similar themes, but what makes this book unique is that the main character gains power through reading, so it was pretty cool!
Okay, my problems with the book is VERY spoilery so DO NOT READ IT, unless you want to ruin the ending for yourself.

Louise Cole writes like a dream (sometimes a nightmare, but in a good way!). I loved this book, especially the heart of the story, told by the 17-year-old protagonist, Callie. Her voice seamlessly transformed from typical teenage whininess or boy-crush angst to timeless, fluidly omniscient philosophizing. Her words, and the images they created bloomed beautifully in my mind's ear and my imagination. Okay, all this flowery, poetic stuff aside, the plot flows like a waterfall and rumbles downhill like a rollercoaster, life or death action so intense, you forget to breathe and keep turning the pages. Rarely have I come across a book that's such an incredible combination of lyrical description, and skilled character development, with an exciting plot. There's also a message, a theme woven throughout: the universal truth that humanity is at its strongest when we connect with each other through love, to achieve peace. I can't wait for the next book in the series to come out.

Where to start with this book?!
I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!
Now i could leave my review like that but i wont!!
Now don’t let the title put you off, it isn’t a poetry book or a book about the devil but a beautiful story about Callie. Her life has never been easy, loosing her Mother at a young age, felling like she never fits it and a Father that’s very distant with her on an emotional level.
Callie has always found comfort in her books, much to her Father’s dislike, so when a book that's been thrown into her hands calls to her…… yes, really calls to her, she grips it with both hands, and it doesn’t matter that an army of the Cadaveri will stop at nothing to have the book or that Jace has warned her NOT to read it, Callie just cant help herself and suddenly finder herself having to save the world!!
I loved the sweet relationship that blossomed between Callie and Jace throughout the book, Jace’s passion and dedication on wanting to do whats right for the Order and doing whats right for Callie is tested all the way through (think that’s what makes me love him as a character) and the test of friendship between Callie and Amber. Have to say I’ve never disliked a character as much as i disliked Ella, she's rude, pigheaded and thinks she knows everything……i did have a pang of guilt for disliking her so much towards the end of the book.
This book is so action packed it could give Jason Bourne a run for his money! Its fast paced, with twists and turns galore. You think its going one way then the author swiftly spins you around and into a whole new direction, which i loved! Its gripping, entertaining, and with just the right amount of romance to keep you hooked! Louise is a new author to me and if her books that follow are just as good or even better than this she’ll have a massive following in no time, with me in the front spot!! Now whens the next book out?!?

Greatly entertaining
I liked the style of writing very much, the story was different and not entirely explained but there's more in the series so I guess we just have to wait. Again , very well written.

This book had war and destruction and put the weight of the world on a seventeen year old's shoulders. it was a terrifying world! It was a great book and I am glad I took the time to read it.

First I'd better say that the author is a colleague. Notwithstanding this I cherish this book for so many reasons. In particular the ending which is as near to aerobic reading as is possible to get. Louise is an exceptional writer and brilliance shines from her work. I am so glad to have this book in my collection. Whatever age you are, sit back and be sucked into a whirlwind adventure.

Louise Cole's new book introduces the reader to the story of a young woman coming to terms with her own demons as well as those lurking all around her in the world she thinks she knows. Callie is a very bright, very inquisitive, book-devouring seventeen year old. She's as conflicted by the emotions she can handle as she is by those she can't. Yet. Thrown unexpectedly into a terrifying chain of events, Callie must confront who she really is. The development of the other characters that she interacts with, some friends and family and some enemies, is honest and complex. I find this makes for engaged reading. The author's synchronized pacing kept me immersed as my understanding grew. A well-crafted use of alternative points-of-view in successive chapters tells the story in a more complete way than a single one. The book was alternately deeply moving and as gripping as a thriller; often all at once!
The world longs for miracles and peace, and the author's brought to us an idea of how such a miracle might take place. Of course, as we draw nearer to the end-point of Callie's quest, we are reminded that not all is as it seems and every good deed has its price. I'm looking forward to the next book in this series.

Can reading save the world?
I loved the opening paragraph which was so evocative.
“I’d never realized war could be so quiet. The National Service letters had whispered through our doors that morning. It seemed such thin pages should have torn under the strain of such a heavy message.”
Initially because of this I thought this was going to be an historical novel - I’d read The synopsis ages before - but then the horror dawned. It was set now. In the days of Facebook and terrorism - National Service - Involuntary Conscription for those eighteen and above was back.
Callie is seventeen so it’s not her time yet but instead she has another battle to face. One night she is handed a book and told not to read it but keep it safe. Then the ‘men’ start coming for her. The Cadavari with haunted eyes.
This reminded me a little of Buffy which I love. There is definitely a chosen one vibe. The book switches between first person POV from Callie and third person exploring other character’s points of view from the Cadaveri to Jace Portman the man who gave her the book and then turned up at her school as a supply teacher. Callie has two close friends Amber and Gavin who are quickly pulled into the action and her ex Alec who she’d prefer to be far from it.
I really enjoyed Louise’s writing style and the book is quite fast paced. We get into the action quickly. I liked the mix of an almost dystopian near future with the threat of war and National Service with the Supernatural elements. As I said before fans of Buffy and of Cassandra Clare should enjoy this. And it is great to see a UK based fantasy too.

This was a really interesting concept that intrigued me from the start – it was very original, and I really liked how it combined fantasy with a war in a semi-contemporary setting (as in, Callie had been living in a normal world). I also loved reading Callie’s point of view as she found out more about the book and the Order, and how her confidence visibly grew.
The Devil’s Poetry is told from multiple POVs, and almost every perspective possible was shown. As a war is taking place, it was really interesting to see this, and I thought it added a lot to the dramatic, thriller aspect of the novel.
There were also some really lovely relationships in this novel, which I enjoyed watching develop. I loved Callie’s friendship with Amber, and found the dynamic within the Order so interesting! I did find Jace a little too macho a lot of the time, and his love with Callie a tad unrealistic, although I know that his over-protectiveness of Callie was necessary, and I grew more fond of him as the novel progressed.

In many ways The Devil's Poetry follows fairly standard themes for Young Adult books: Callie lives (and has a complicated relationship) with just her father after the death of her mother when she was six. She knows nothing of being a reader until seemingly random circumstances thrust her into a life she didn't know existed. And there is a very handsome young man that comes with that new life. But things aren't always what they seem, and you soon realize, along with Callie, that her new role as a Reader isn't as simple as it appears. Read from the book, save the world. Not complicated, right? Except that it is, and there are many twists and turns throughout the story as Callie tries to figure out who she can trust, just what her powers may or may not accomplish, and whose side is the right one.
There is nothing so simple as "right" or "wrong" in this book and it is the gray areas that kept me intrigued. Callie wants to do the right thing if she can, or at least the best thing, but finds that it isn't always so easy to determine what is best and for whom.

The Devil's Poetry is set in a dystopian near-present with the world on the brink of World War III. Louise Cole has created a suspenseful, exciting read at the heart of which is an ancient book. But this is no ordinary antiquity. It possesses powers to change the course of history - but only in the right hands. Needless to say, there is an evil group - in this case the Cadiveri - who are hellbent on insuring that global catastrophe takes place. Wrapped up in all this is a girl, Callie, and her connection to the book is unique. Her friends are about to be sent off to fight - and she is in mortal danger. Great plot, great characters and as many twists and turns to keep the reader guessing right up to the end.

The world tips on the edge of WWIII. Sounds somewhat familiar and how I wish someone like the main character, Callie, were here, in our wold, with her gift of Reading. Very imaginative book with a host of characters that keep the reader on the edge of his/her seat wondering what's coming next. The evil Cadaveri (people...demons? who are bent on creating havoc and war - remind you of anybody?) know that the only thing standing between them and their plans for chaos is seventeen year old Callie.
There are many themes running through this very readable book (it is YA but an adult will also devour it): friendship, loyalty, coming of age, bravery. Smoothly and intelligently written, the plot twists and turns with memorable characters. The author has a winner, I think.

Callie thought she lived an ordinary, complicate life. It just became much more difficult when she is pulled into a secret order. How does she know what she needs to do will benefit the world rather than hurt them? Through her adventures and discovery about herself and the order, she falls for Jace, her guardian.
I enjoyed this story. It was unique and engaging, making me want to continue reading. The relationships between various characters seem believable, not forced. The epilogue makes me anxious for the sequel!

This story was more powerful than it first appears. The writing takes you deep into the world of free choice and tackles a lot of moral issues. Is the sacrifice of one acceptable for the salvation of many? Although magic is involved in this story, the message was still clear about how the masses can be easily swayed by the words of a charismatic speaker. It's well-written and an engaging story, and well worth reading.

One girl can really change the world
Overall I really enjoyed this book. I was invested in the characters and the fact that a book holds that much power was a really interesting concept. Though I have to admit I'm still not quite sure why that is. The caldevari (spl) are a bit of a mystery to me still as well especially after reading the ending and finding out what happened to Alec. I can't wait to read the next installment and finding d out what happens.

This is not my usual genre to read but I absolutely loved it! It only took me 2 days to read, goes to show how much I didn't put it down, I also read in the car, which I don't usually do as it gives me a headache bit I needed to see what happened.
I really enjoyed the story line, found the characters relatable, had a couple of smirks and NOOO! moments which is always a good sign.
Loved the fact it was based in Yorkshire (Yorkshire girl here 😄) only thing I'd say, and I did tweet the author, remove the section of what's to come in book 2 because OMG! don't do this to me!!

One of the things I liked best about The Devil's Poetry was the futuristic historical details (such as the draft) that provided context and insight into the state of the world. The range of political players were interesting, at time even quite unique. The book felt clearly young-adult, so at times the teen-ness of the characters could be irksome, but overall the story was full of themes for all ages.

3 chapters in and this book was unputdownable. I fell in love with Callie and thoroughly enjoyed this incredible journey of self realisation that Louise took her on in this book. Callie is truly unaware of the powers she possesses and as we learn more about her history, her character grows magnificently. Her strong relationships with characters around her are phenomenal to read and I truly enjoyed getting to know Jace along with Callie (I am rooting for these guys!)
This books touches on all emotions and it really pulls you in as a reader. We feel scared for how the war will pan out, we feel friendship and love when we learn about Amber & Jace, we feel heartbreak when we learn the truth about her mother and the relationship Callie has with her father and most importantly, as a female, we feel empowerment that one young girl blossoming into an adult can be so strong in a time of need!
Louise is a fantastic author and if her debut book is anything to go by, I am beyond excited to read more of her work in the future! The Devil's Poetry is out now and you can get your copy over on Amazon.

Hello and welcome to my first ever review as part of a blog tour! I would like to thank Faye Rogers and Louise Cole for letting me participate in the blog tour for this book. And so on with my thoughts…
I really enjoyed reading this book. It has a very unique concept and story that I was just into from the start. I loved the idea of the order and a book full of poetry that might somehow be able to help bring peace to our world.
Firstly, I will talk about the world. The world itself was very similar to ours. The only change was that basically World War 3 is about to break out. Young adults from the UK are all being sent to the war effort in large numbers to try and help. I liked this as although it is fantasy it was very close to our actual world making things seem more realistic and true. As if this could be us a few years down the line. This really adds to the thriller aspect.
The characters were overall enjoyable to read. I especially loved how down to earth Callie and her best friend Amber were. A lot of the time in YA a pretty boy comes along and sweeps a girl off her feet into some mystery and the girl never questions it, or her friends and family for that matter. In The Devil’s Poetry Callie and Amber question everything that is going on. They argue back and do research for themselves and I really enjoyed reading about two very headstrong young girls. Also the fact that they take no crap from boys was also a highlight for me. An issue I had with the other characters is that I would have preferred to have a bit more background or for them to be a little bit more involved.
If you are new to my blog you won’t know that I am not the biggest fan of romance. And with the romance in this book I didn’t exactly like it but it also didn’t bother as much as other romances have in the past. It was a little bit insta-lovey but also kinda realistic. I’m sure if you’re a romance fan, you would love the romance in this story.
My favourite part about this book was the book… I loved the vivid imagery that came from the book whenever Callie read from it. The descriptions and the emotion were so intense I loved every bit of it. If anything I would have loved to have more of Callie reading, just because it was so beautifully written.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book and I am so glad that I was part of the blog tour!

Nothing was abnormal about Callie's love for books. However, the fact that reading from one particular powerful book was to determine the fate of the world certainly rang peculiar...
Young people left, right and centre were being called up by the National Service to fight in the ongoing oil wars and conflicts in the Middle East. There was nothing Callie and her friends could do about it. That was until a secret order sought her out and informed her that reading from an ancient manuscript will bring peace. That sounds simple enough but, with the order being every bit as malicious as the evil Cadaveri, who can Callie trust?
Cole has such a way of crafting a unique and imaginative plot that it kept me on edge pretty much the entire time I was reading. Structurally, I admired how she would end every chapter with suspense or a shocking revelation, which made me struggle to stop reading - much like Callie's infatuation with the book!
My favourite aspect of The Devil's Poetry has got to be how the title is certainly reflective of Cole's writing itself. Her wonderfully poetic descriptions were what made the book so gripping.
"I could still feel my heart beating, but it was a funeral march, slow and steady, the rhythm of hopelessness."
The story has a very action packed plot; it really kicks off at the halfway point, which caused me to enjoy the second half so much more. However, the pace of the plot towards the beginning of the novel did give me whiplash! There was such a strong beginning that immediately drew me in because of the undertones of impending doom. Shortly after that, I felt like I was plunged into a mess of mixed narratives I could not comprehend. Consequently, I was uncertain as to who was speaking and in what time. In terms of structure, I believe that this would have worked a lot better if these narratives were separated by chapters - which signposted the current narrator - or if the mixed narrative was introduced later in the novel after getting to know the characters better.
I loved the contextual relevance of this book as it touches on terrorism and questions whether collateral damage is ever acceptable if the ends justifies the means - both very pressing issues that affects us today.
"She is their instrument. If we find a bomb we destroy it, do we not?"
Disillusionment is a recurring theme in the plot as we are constantly left questioning who the real protagonists are. It is this that gives The Devil's Poetry the thrill of being unpredictable. On the other hand, this could be confusing at times as it would have been preferable if Cole had delved into the backstory of the villainous Cadaveri a little more so I could be sure of their origin and motives.
An outstanding novel from Cole, whose enchanting poetry will certainly have you under its spell.

In the midst of World War III and watching her classmates carted off to war, Callie discovers that she’s got a magical power: a connection to an ancient text. When she reads the strange poetry, she can project her feelings of peace to anyone who hears it… and with enough practice, perhaps she can save the world. Now, everyone wants to control her and angst ensues.
2.5 stars.
This book is pretty frustrating because there are parts where it is so very clear the author is a good writer. Honestly, it felt like she started with a lyrical and dazzling short story and then chopped it up and interspersed it with a mediocre urban fantasy. Here’s an example of Callie -Reading-, and these scenes are all beautiful:
“I already knew it by heart, each serif letter, each self-important capital. Even the images glistened in my mind, every golden apple, snarling lion and curling snake sliding through the grass. It was a mosaic of life, and all that went with life, all the harsh truths that made it possible. Evolution and extinction, hunger and prey, power and terror, consciousness, and the terrible loneliness that walks at its heels.”
I LOVED those scenes. When Callie Reads, she experiences these dreamlike visions and it’s like looking into the Heart of the Tardis.
I wanted more of this type of writing, but the rest of the novel falls short. We have some Baddies (who are also albino, so heavy Ableism there) who want the Book, and an Order that doesn’t communicate enough with our Protag. Been there, read that. Also, the UN is involved and there’s a priest, so this is like Inkheart meets the Da Vinci Code meets World War Z.
In every part but the Reading, the author is devastatingly guilty of Telling, not Showing. Here’s my favorite, which made me chuckle:
“I’d gone less than twenty yards when I heard yelling. It didn’t even occur to me to run the other way.”
Also, the relationship between Callie and her bodyguard is underdeveloped Instalove and just feels so predictable. I can’t even.
All in all, a frustrating read. Unfulfilled potential. I could see myself using excerpts of this book (uh, The Reading) as a mentor text for my students in a writing workshop, but I wouldn’t recommend the whole novel.

I had no idea what to expect from this book when I started it. I didn't even know what genre it was. However, Louise's beautiful writing quickly drew me into her story. It turns out that it's set in a near-future, where wars are breaking out around the world, conscription is back and causing turmoil in a Yorkshire high school, and the fate of the world rests on some upcoming peace talks in London. It's a really interesting setting and one we don't see very often in YA. Not quite contemporary, but definitely not dystopian.
Callie is a wonderful heroine. From the start it's clear that she's not your typical teenage girl, but the reasons for this, and her family history, unfold slowly through the novel. There's a lot of emphasis on the relationships in her life, with her best friend Amber and with her father, through to her crush and then developing feelings for the incredibly heroic and swoonworthy Jace. I really liked the fact that she had doubts and fears, and has to somehow face them. Her vulnerability and uncertainty make her feel all the braver.
There's also a strong supernatural element to the book. It's hard to define exactly, and I believe that it's been kept deliberately vague, either to deepen the sense of mystery or for exploration in further books. There's an ancient, semi-religious power at work, though it's exact purpose and how it works is shrouded in myth and mystery.
One of the things I particularly loved about The Devil's Poetry is the way there's no clear good or bad sides at work here. There are different sides, they each have their own beliefs and their own objectives and they each believe that they are right. This is mirrored very effectively in the ongoing peace talks, where both India and Pakistan are firmly convinced that they are in the right. Louise Cole approaches this with great subtletly, initially setting it up so that it seems clear that the Cadaveri are the evil monsters and the Order are the heroes, and then throwing other characters into the mix that will leave you questioning everything.

Where to start with this book?!
I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!
Now i could leave my review like that but i wont!!
Now don’t let the title put you off, it isn’t a poetry book or a book about the devil but a beautiful story about Callie. Her life has never been easy, loosing her Mother at a young age, felling like she never fits it and a Father that’s very distant with her on an emotional level.
Callie has always found comfort in her books, much to her Father’s dislike, so when a book thats been thrown into her hands calls to her…… yes, really calls to her, she grips it with both hands, and it doesn’t matter that an army of the Cadaveri will stop at nothing to have the book or that Jace has warned her NOT to read it, Callie just cant help herself and suddenly finder herself having to save the world!!
I loved the sweet relationship that blossomed between Callie and Jace throughout the book, Jace’s passion and dedication on wanting to do whats right for the Order and doing whats right for Callie is tested all the way through (think that’s what makes me love him as a character) and the test of friendship between Callie and Amber. Have to say I’ve never disliked a character as much as i disliked Ella, shes rude, pigheaded and thinks she knows everything……i did have a pang of guilt for disliking her so much towards the end of the book.
This book is so action packed it could give Jason Bourne a run for his money! Its fast paced, with twists and turns galore. You think its going one way then the author swiftly spins you around and into a whole new direction, which i loved! Its gripping, entertaining, and with just the right amount of romance to keep you hooked! Louise is a new author to me and if her books that follow are just as good or even better than this she’ll have a massive following in no time, with me in the front spot!! Now whens the next book out?!?

Callie has always found comfort in her books, much to her Father’s dislike, so when a book thats been thrown into her hands calls to her…… yes, really calls to her, she grips it with both hands, and it doesn’t matter that an army of the Cadaveri will stop at nothing to have the book or that Jace has warned her NOT to read it, Callie just cant help herself and suddenly finder herself having to save the world!!
I loved the sweet relationship that blossomed between Callie and Jace throughout the book, Jace’s passion and dedication on wanting to do whats right for the Order and doing whats right for Callie is tested all the way through (think that’s what makes me love him as a character) and the test of friendship between Callie and Amber. Have to say I’ve never disliked a character as much as i disliked Ella, shes rude, pigheaded and thinks she knows everything……i did have a pang of guilt for disliking her so much towards the end of the book.
This book is so action packed it could give Jason Bourne a run for his money! Its fast paced, with twists and turns galore. You think its going one way then the author swiftly spins you around and into a whole new direction, which i loved! Its gripping, entertaining, and with just the right amount of romance to keep you hooked! Louise is a new author to me and if her books that follow are just as good or even better than this she’ll have a massive following in no time, with me in the front spot!! Now whens the next book out?!?

The Devil’s Poetry is properly one of my favourite books I have ever read! I sure have read a lot of books, just look at my bookcase. From the first moment of reading, I knew I would fall in love because I was hooked from the very first chapter. I would call it an unputdownable book, every second I had, I was buried in the mystery that surrounds Callie being a ‘Reader’. When it ended, well I was disappointed!
It’s crazy how many different emotions Louise was able to capture in the book, one moment I would be feeling scared for Callie‘s and the world’s future, then heartbreak for Callie when she finds out the truth about her mother. There’s also that small part of you that feels hope, hope that everything will turn out okay. Not just for Callie but her family and friends, as well as the rest of the world.
I was able to connect with all the main characters, Callie, Jace and Ella, I felt like I knew them well. My favourite part was how you didn’t just read Callie‘s point of view, you were thrust into the lives of the other characters! You knew exactly what was happening for the other characters. Including the Cadaveri, the ‘white-eyed’ guys and knowing what was happening with different countries Defense Ministers.
