This discipleship booklet guides new believers as they take their first steps on the Christian journey. It addresses key issues for all followers of Christ, such as regular Bible reading, coming before God in prayer, witnessing to others, and meeting with other believers. It also offers resources that can help a new believer continue to grow closer to God daily.
When “introduction” is included in the subtitle, exhaustive shouldn’t be the expectation.
This does what it claims to do, briefly studying in section one the core areas needed for growth of a new believer, even as a starting ground for someone who hasn’t yet believed: eternal life, assurance, God’s Word, temptation, prayer, witnessing, church attendance, and dedication. Each study is limited to two pages, with questions to answer based on listed Bible passages.
Section two is additional helps: “a plan for daily quiet time with God” (solid, strategic, and doable); “verses for victory”—assurance, Christian walk, courage, evil thoughts, forgiveness, tongue, worldliness, etc.; “Bible reading schedule for the New Testament”—commendable plan, not flimsy, still manageable; and memory verse cards for 8 verses, which besides easing the first step in memorizing Scripture also equips the reader to know how to continue forward in memorizing and, as importantly, meditating.
I have been looking for something to use with a very interested friend who is not yet a believer but with many questions. This is the perfect fit. I also plan to get a copy for each of our kids as a simple Bible study, reinforcing these core areas clearly.
