When childhood best friends Griff and Dean meet again, sparks fly…
In Oceanport, New England’s most gossipy small town, people wonder about Griff. Such a cute omega can’t possibly be satisfied without a proper mate they say. Yet he’ll be thirty soon and as far as they know he’s never been with anyone! The truth is that Griff has given up on finding love… that is until his childhood best friend moves back to town and sets his heart on fire.
When Dean’s firefighter career is sidetracked by a tragic accident, returning to his roots to mend seems like a good move. It gives him a chance to breathe, as well as a chance to reconnect with his oldest friend, the omega who stole his heart when they were young. For some reason though, Griff keeps shying away from him, and it takes Dean a lot of patience, and a ton of cupcakes, to lure the sugar-addict out of his shell—and into his arms.
But Dean’s memories are still seared by the tragedy that sent him home and Griff is afraid of giving in to his omega instincts. Can they win through their personal walks of fire or is their flame bound to burn out?

The book was decent but not my favorite in the series. It was too slow-paced and very low on smut. Griff is a 30 years old virgin omega who’s afraid of having sex and alphas. And Dean is an all-round perfect boyfriend. And as expected, Griff parents were asses. I knew I’m not going to like them from the first book but this book just confirmed it. This is sappy sweet, very slow-paced and this could have even identified as a YA if there wasn’t the only two sex scenes which are very low on heat. As always, John Solo narrated the hell out of this book though. Love, loved his narration! Always spot on. Enjoyable but not memorable.
4.25 Dean bakes cupcakes for Griff stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨
While I liked this book its not my favorite of the entire series. This book was a more on the sweet and sugary side than book one was. Absolutely no angst or drama in this book, just a really cute story overall. And the award for the most Patient and Understanding Alpha goes to.... Dean, Alpha, firefighter, baker, Sweetest most understanding, patient guy on the planet. lol. Taking a break from his job, he comes back into town to help his cousin with his business after moving away when he was a teen where he ends up reconnecting with his teenage best friend Griff. Griff, Omega, Photographer, Sugar obsessed, Virgin and Afraid of the attraction he still has to his teenage friend and crush Dean. I was really happy with the way this book turned out. To see a couple, Dean and Griff turn from friends into more and have actual conversations about their feelings, and making sure they each both feel comfortable about where they are in life and where they are headed together was refreshing. There relationship together just had a natural progression to it and wasn't rushed at all. The way Dean took his time to make sure Griff was happy at all times was really sweet. Also, I really hate Griffs parents, they are horrible people and I wish they would have stayed out of the story, but I do see why the author added them in. I liked that we also got to see more of Griff's brother Eli (from book 1) and that we got to meet Shane and his kids, who we should be seeing in the next book 3 of this series. Audio - John Solo is doing great with this series and I really hope the Author sticks with him for the rest. He really made sure that Griff and Dean both were unique characters with his narration and I really enjoyed listening to this book.
They acted like 14 year old girls. I could not find any testosterone in here - it felt juvenile. Disappointing given the last one was great. I rarely DNF - but I ended up skimming this til the end. It just didn't work for me at all.
4.5 stars for me. I was so happy to know that Griff was going to get his own story. We met him in the first book of this series, and when this story starts we find him now living on his own after his brother moved out and married his mate. He’s best friends with Dean, his childhood friend who has moved back home, although everyone thinks that they should be more than just friends purely because of their nature.
I loved Dean and Griff. I love that they could actually talk to each other, rather than hide their feelings for each other for like the whole book, and I loved how patient, caring, and supportive Dean was with Griff. I also love that we got more of Eli and his family and kids, and that we got to see more of their parents. Yes, they made a horrible mistake in how they treated Eli years ago, but I’m glad they are all trying to work things out.
This was a great story. I love the whole feel of family and friendship in this between everyone, and how we also dealt with some issues like anxiety, PTSD, and how to manage and cope with that. I do wish that there had been a bit more depth to both Griff's anxiety over sex and Dean's PTSD and recovery, as it seemed to be quickly dealt with.
I definitely recommend starting with the first book since this definitely continues on from that, and if you like non-shifter ABO (which, I know so many people are used to it being werewolves and shifters, but I have read PLENTY of regular human ABO-verse stories in fanfics and e-books) then you will love this series. Ann Katrin-Byrde is one of my favorite authors these days, everything she writes is fantastic!
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
What a delightful series this is. These book have the HEA with no cheating or backstabbing or any of the other typically drama most books have. No these books are alpha/omega mpreg worlds that has a lot of family drama, small town gossip and good old fashion in turmoil.
The author has a way of making you connect with her characters, even the secondary characters. I enjoyed the cousin so much that I am going to read that book next.
Book was painfully slow, and the dialogue was bland and didn't advance the story. I would prefer a paragraph of explication to three pages of banal dialogue. Sex scenes were boring to boot.
The first book in this series was my introduction to a relatively new trope called “omegaverse”. It's a world where men are either alphas or omegas… but not shifters. In fact, nothing paranormal or supernatural except that omega men can get pregnant and have babies. I found the whole concept to be very interesting. I am already a big fan of this author’s work so I was excited to read this next installment, especially since I already adored Griffin from Eli and Matt’s story.
“I could look and fantasize all day, but truth was, as soon as things got intimate between me and any alpha, the hormone rush became overwhelming and I ran.”
Griff is Eli’s younger brother, and just like Eli, he is an omega. He is also still a virgin having never “succumbed to his omega nature”, as he thinks of it in his head. His very first kiss - with a total schmuck, by the way - Griff could feel his omega side being influenced by the alpha and just wanting to submit, and give it all up. It scared him so much that he's never allowed himself to get close to anyone for fear of being taken advantage of by an alpha while so inundated by his hormones that he can't fight back. His own needs tend to swamp him as well, so his fears are certainly justified.
Griff and Dean are disgustingly adorable together. Seriously. Griff has his fears about physical intimacy and Dean has his own secret fears about his ability to still be a firefighter. Dean is so patient and wonderful with Griff that it brought a smile to my face. Everyone who has ever struggled with their virginity and having sex, should be lucky enough to have a Dean in their life. Now, if Dean can just realize that sharing his own fears with Griff will not have Griff seeing him as weak. Just because he's an alpha doesn't mean that what happened at his previous job shouldn't scare him and make him worry about whether he can still do the job.
This is a very cute installment in the series. If I had to classify the series, I think I would say it's Ann-Katrin Byrde light, as there is some drama but it's an easy read with a very definite happy ever after. This author does a great job with mpreg and I always like that! If you like sweet, loving, fun, and puppies, then you'll feel right at home with this book.
I love this next book in the series. It was great to see Griff get his chance. He was such a support for his brother in the past. We see him figure out the way to overcome his issues is to find the right person to share it with. I also appreciate how Griff can be strong for Dean as well. I love how these guys work through things together and find out the best way to move forward together.
OK. The mc is a virgin. An omega. Lots & lots of baggage. I skipped forward a few times cuz Hey! Fireman!! I'm at 50% and I'm calling it quits: if I wanted this much talk about sex and not doing IT, I'd revisit my teen years when I read books about sex becuz I wasn't gettin' any but I'm older now and... I digress. I'm so over this. Going to try sports next. [BTW, baby?? WTF?!]
4.5 rounded up. As always Ms Byrde delivered a sweet and interesting story filled with great characters, a thoughtful plot, and adorable babies. I knew I'd love Griffin from what I saw of him in the first book and I wasn't wrong about the caring and funny photographer. And I adored Dean! He was so kind and considerate. He never pushed Griff's limits and respected what he said. I think the development of their relationship from friends to lovers was handled well and believably. Also, I liked that this book forced Griff and Eli to face their relationship with their parents and I thought that was important for them and for the story as a whole. This story was so fluffy and sweet while also confronting real issues (anxiety, PTSD, social pressure, etc.). And the epilogue!!! It was the perfect sweet, funny end to a lovely book.
I did have one small gripe, though. *Possible light spoiler* I'm not sure I like that Dean went back to being a firefighter, purely because it didn't seem like he really wanted to. It seemed more like he was lovingly pressured back into that career. Everyone assumed he would go back, and he felt he would be less of an alpha (less of a man) if he admitted to having nightmares about the job. He thought the people he loved would think less of him if he stopped being a firefighter and that's just not true. He could have stayed as an aide working for his cousin or he could have gone for opening a bakery with Matt or anything really. There was no real need to force him back into a career he dreaded, at least not that I could glean from the book. This was a very, very small part of the story and so it was a very small gripe that I feel strongly about.
3.5* This series is REALLY SWEET!!! I love the characters, they are su cute omg... The only downside in this one is that I feel is too long... there is not enough plot so I think the author put a lot of stuffed scenes... But I will try the next book!
As with many stories in this genre, this A/B/O romance had plenty of cheesy fluff. Those who appreciate slowly resolved virginal steam may enjoy this the most.
We got to know Griffin as the caring uncle and super supportive brother in the first book of the Oceanport Omegas series. When his parents kicked out Elias, his pregnant college aged Omega brother Griffin went with him. Knowing how devastated his older brother was at being abandoned by his parents when he needed them the most. Griffin stepped up in a big way. Because he primarily worked from home Griff was able to watch his nephew Jake while his brother sought out employment.
All the work he did from his heart for his brother, nephew, and their sweet Labrador retriever, Fiona was rewarded when Elias once reunited with Jake's father, the newly married couple purchased the house for Griffin to remain. Despite being able to now concentrate on his career & self, Griffin felt very lonely in the empty house. His nephew and brother visited, but it wasn't the same. Until the inspiration to have friends over suggested by his young nephew changed the direction of his friendship with his long time Alpha friend & firefighter, Dean who had recently returned to Oceanport.
Dean had been hurt and returned home to recuperate & get over having PTSD from being trapped in a deadly fire. He felt he needed to take additional time, so when his recently widowed cousin Shane needed help with his young daughter and withdrawn son, so Dean went there to do whatever was needed. Ever since the death of Shane's Omega spouse things have been very difficult for the surviving family members. Dean was really helpful working at Shane's Nursing Home. Something his cousin's spouse had been integral in assisting with. Dean was very happy to renew his friendship with Griffin, but could wished there was more. Though it was better to have Griffin's sweet tooth friendship despite wanting more, than no relationship at all.
A traumatized Griffin wants more too than his friendship with Dean, but his own demons keep him from moving forward. It takes wine, jealousy, and a date open both Dean and Griffin's eyes to what could be. But it's going to take a lot of work including communication and advice from more experienced Omegas and Alphas.
I really enjoyed this book. It showed a nonshifter Alpha in a different light: insecurities, nightmares, indecision, and who took excellent care taken of not only his cousin & his baby/younger cousins, but of elderly patients at a care facility owned by his cousin Shane.
Griffin and his brother Elias had a tumultuous relationship with their parents. It is in this story that we finally meet them. Is it possible to overcome ten years of anger and unresolved emotions?
The sweetness in this book was at an all time high. Griffin loved sweets and Dean loved making cupcakes for him. Griffin loved watching cartoons as much as his young nephew Jake (and so do I :0). For all you mpreg fans you get your wish, as well as the dog lovers. If you have been searching for your shining knight you'll find him here. Book Three was just released and I'm starting in 5-4-3-2-1... (I just wonder who it's going about?! Can't wait to find out)
Ann-Katrin does sweet stories so well! This is a gentle story with some characters that have some personal struggles but no real angst. This is just the kind of sweet fluff that I needed after my recent spate of more serious, somber books. I was so glad to see sugar loving Griff get his own story! He made a very loving, kind character in the first book of the series and I loved what a good brother and uncle that he was. Now all alone after Eli and Jake have moved out into their new home with Matt and little Olivia, he is feeling a bit out of sorts. He's limited in his friends since he's been devoting all his time to Eli and Jake, so he decides to reconnect with his old friend Dean who's back in town. Alphas and omegas can be just friends, right? Well the problem is these two feel more than friendship for each other. For Griff that's a little problematic. He's still a virgin at almost thirty because he panics at his biological omega impulse for sex that he feels around alphas. It feels like he's losing control and, after a disastrous early experience, that scares him. Dean, on the other hand, was crushing hard on Griff when they were still young, before his family moved away. Now he's back and picking up his friendship with Griff, wanting more but afraid to press for it and drive Griff away. It's a common story but makes for a slow and gentle courtship. Of course things like strained family relations and an unplanned pregnancy pop up to add a few surprises to their story. The mpreg was well done and (I hate to keep using this word) sweet. Some adorable animals play a tiny part as well. There is also a cousin of Dean's who has been widowed with two kids who comes into the story and who, I suspect, will make for the subject of the book. Just a nice romantic and relaxing read.
This is the second book in the Oceanport Omegas series. It is a wonderful story, written in true Ann-Katrin Byrde style about two men who have both been burned. In it the author answers the question: “Can they win through their personal walks of fire or is their flame bound to burn out?”
Griff, an Omega was emotionally burned in his young past and because of this has gone into a shell that even his omega instincts can’t break through. A thirty-year-old virgin who has given up on love! Unheard of! Dean, an Alpha, is a firefighter who was injured on his job. He returned home to Oceanport to heal and help his brother whose mate recently die. Dean has immersed himself in helping to maintain the business they started.
As fate would have it, Dean and Griff are the oldest of friends who have never admitted their true feeling for each other. So when Dean sets out to gain the man who stole his heart, he appeals to everything, including a sweet tooth to break through Griff’s shell and into his arms.
This is one of those stories that just hits you in the feels. I loved Griff and rooted for Dean. There are cameo appearances by Eli, Matt and little Jake. Plus, for those of us who roost in the Byrdehouse, we learn more about Elias and Griff’s parents. It’s a quick well developed book. The kind you take to the beach, or sit on your deck with your feet up and a cool glass of your favorite beverage to read.
No trigger warnings are noted in the audio opening or book blurb, so a caution that this story literally begins with a $€xual a$$ault. It's an MC's on-page recollection of a high school incident, and used to explain his hormone-fueled tendency to flee from alphas that subsequently affects his forming lasting relationships, but the incident itself is largely glossed over.
As for the story itself, it focuses on omega Griffin and alpha Dean, lifelong friends who become more after Dean moves back to town. Griff is hyper-focused on losing his virginity but has self-described "hangups," aka intimacy issues and fears (obviously!) he's struggled with for years. Firefighter Dean is also trying to heal from his own work-related trauma.
The progression of their relationship from friends to lovers moves at the slow end of a slow-burn, and Dean is ever-supportive and understanding of Griff's hesitancy. They move past it, of course, but it was all a bit too flowery and easily resolved for me.
Narrator John Solo delivers a good performance overall. Some of his female voices leave something to be desired, but there aren't many female characters in this story.
I haven't yet read/listened to Book 1, which focuses on Griff's brother Eli, and it felt like a disadvantage given the apparent continuing family drama storyline regarding the strained relationship with their parents.
This book is Griffin's romance, the brother of Elias from the first book. He's an omega like Eli and he's been I n love with his best friend from school since they were teens.
There's an element of second chances in this one but not because of disagreements but because Dean moved away with his family. When he comes to help out his cousin, the two men reconnect.
Again this is a low angsty, moderate steam romance with good communication and no unnecessary drama. Gruff has fears about his omega reactions to his alpha friend overwhelming him and Dean is suffering with a mild case of PTSD over a fire he was involved in. But, gloriously, both men talk it out and try to find solutions and get help to deal with their issues! There's another sweet epilogue for this which jumps a few months ahead and reinforces the HEA.
I really enjoyed this book. Griff, who we met in the first book, starts to see his friend Dean in a different light. These two characters were well-rounded. Griff is a fun character with his incredible sweet tooth and his cartoons. Honestly, he sounds like a great uncle—adult but still acts young enough to play with his nephew. Dean and Griff were best friends growing up until Dean’s family moved. Years later, Dean returns to Oceanport to help his brother and realizes that he still has feeling for Griffin. Dean is dealing with some issues from his job as a firefighter. I like that they don’t just fall into bed and the author gives them time to know each other again. The book does mention Dean having what might be PTSD from being hurt on the job and Griff has a memory of a prom date trying to force him to have sex—in case it bothers you.
These books sometimes seem to have a political statement sometimes that marriage isn't a valid/appropriate symbol of commitment in a relationship. While I certainly don't believe that a piece of paper equates to emotional commitment, I personally don't buy the argument that having an emotional commitment negates the value of the outward symbol of that commitment by getting married. It just seems to me to be an easier way of getting out of it when things go south.
I know that both Eli and Griffin both did get married at the end of their books, but in both cases, I felt that it was more a desire of their respective alpha whom they were willing to please rather than a desire on the part of the omega.
I don't know what my deal was but I kept getting confused with the details of the two MCs. Both were close to their brothers and dealt with their nephews quite a bit so I had to keep reminding myself who was who. I hate when that happens. Dean is a firefighter, kind of. He used to be but is currently on a break because of an accident at his last fire. Griff is his friend from childhood who he reconnects with when he comes home to recover. Both Griff and Dean have these personal demons that they spend a majority of the book angsting over and neither problem seemed all that awful to me and definitely not this taboo embarrassing thing they both made them out to be. Kind of ridiculous. The story itself was cute but nothing all that exciting.
Cute little ABO story where the two MC each have a trauma they are working through. Griff is Eli from The Omega's Secret Baby brother. He helped Eli when their parents threw him out and helped raise his son. Now he is living by himself for the first time and his best friend from childhood is back. Dean is hot and a total Alpha but has some PTSD from his job that he needs to work through. the two together were sweet. I did want to shake both of them a few time and get them to open up to each other.
🎧 I didn’t really connect with these two. I wish Griff would’ve told Dean about the SA so that they can work through it together. Instead Griff went from being scared to feeling safe and wanting that D in one shot. Like you didn’t wanna work up to it? BJs or some other stuff? Nope you just decided today I will get over my fear that has been wreaking havoc on me for decades because I want to lose my V card.
I don’t think these omegas are my type of reading material. I live that they are independent, unfortunately, there’s still something lacking in the character development for the main characters.
