Bound Duet #3

Redemption

Rate this book
One decision.
One horrific mistake.
One lifetime of hell.

Everything I got was justified, and all I lost warranted. No matter where I went, the hell of my past followed. There was no forgiveness, no reparation—I would spend the rest of my days trapped in purgatory. His pain was mine.

And then came Dan.
Followed by hope.
And possibly redemption.

"The past was best left where it was forgotten."

The storyline and writing was very good. I think the love connection and relationship needed more. Dan needed more to give him a real-feel for me. Perhaps a trip back to her hometown? Just not sure what.

5 ALL THE FEELINGS stars!!!!

"Goodbyes are final, and you’re my future."

Redemption by Stephie Walls
5 stars!!!

“Goodbyes are final, and you’re my future.”

Two five star reads on the bounce and two five star reads that have had me run the gamut of my emotions. Stephie Walls captured my attention from the first word and never let me go till the end and even then, I wasn’t ready to let these characters go. Sometimes a book just envelopes you and that is what this one did, the characters, the secondary characters and the plot, the complete trifecta. Every word had a purpose, every scene captivating and capturing those heart felt emotions that I crave in a read. Stephie Walls took a headline news story and made it her own, a story that happens time and time again, she took a risk and it more than paid off. Yes, at times this book had me in floods of tears, such was the emotional intensity that this author delivered, a tough topic but the author balanced this out perfectly with one of the most endearing and bewitching love stories I have ever had the pleasure of reading. I adored this book and it will be on my favourites list at the end of the year.

“Situations like these are never easy for anyone. There are no winners here…”

I believe in fate, I believe that everything happens for a reason, I believe that sometimes life makes it hard so that you appreciate it when it isn’t. Life is never plain sailing, it tests you, it makes you stronger and no one encapsulated this more than our heroine, Lissa. Lissa was a character I wanted to hug, to squeeze so tight, a woman that had experienced something so bad I wouldn’t wish it upon my worst enemy. My heart broke for this woman, my heart totally and utterly decimated, smashed to smithereens but she made it out the other side…just. If ever a person deserved a happy ever after, it was Lissa. Lissa’s past was tragic, but her future needn’t be, she needed to let go, forgive but never forget. Lissa was selfless, she wanted to be the best person she could, she strived for perfection, but sometimes perfect is overrated, you just need to be you.

“I can’t listen to people pull this apart and not remember that everyone lost – there are nothing but victims still standing…including you.”

Dan was an incredible character a man in the right place at the right time and as it plays out with the right person. A date gone wrong that put him in the path of Lissa, the stars aligned, fate worked its magic. Dan was perfect, he was resilient, he never gave up, he was forgiving, understanding, supportive and loyal to a fault. The reformed manwhore who had finally met the woman to settle him. He had found his forever and no matter what life threw at them, he wanted them to make it and he would do everything he could to ensure it happened. I adored him.

“The part of you that leads, that alpha male who protects, that man who calms my storms and eases my fears. For the first time in years, I feel safe in someone else’s company…”

Dan and Lissa were perfect for one and other, from their first meet to their histories, to their future. They just were so well suited. The chemistry between these was palpable and yet this side to their relationship was never the crux. The depth that Stephie Walls gave these characters was overwhelming and I felt I was living their life with them. The character connection was on point, the dialogue perfection, the plot gripping, the romance…be still my beating heart.

“…if I were lucky enough to be married to a man who believed I brought him life, there’s no way I’d go backward.”

While these characters have appeared in the Bound and Freed duet you do not need to have read this first. They were secondary characters and always had me intrigued. However, if you have not read Bound and Freed and intend to do so, then this book does contain spoilers for that duet.

“…I was just thankful I got a second chance, a do-over, a mulligan. Mother Nature smiled at me, Karma sent me her favor, and God gave me Dan.”

Friendship is a beautiful thing and none more so than the characters in this book. This book was all about a friendship that was so strong, so loyal…you can’t choose your family, but you can choose your friends and these two couples chose well. Such a stunning book, one I will never forget and one that I will re-read again. Seriously adored this book no matter how much it broke me at times.

I couldn't sympathize with the heroine. She was selfish from the beginning till end. She chose her job and other things over her son and lost him in the process. She didn't want to come clean till the end of the book which I just didn't get it.

Redemption by Author Stephie Walls is a standalone, second chance at love story. It does have characters from her Bound Duet. However, it is not necessary to have read that duet before beginning this novel.

I think I say this about all of Author Stephie Wall’s books, but it's the complete truth, she has a way of capturing her readers from the Prologue and not letting them go until long after The End.

“You’ll change your mind.” His confidence was humorous. “Women adore me. Guys want to be me. And you can’t resist me.”

I was first introduced to Lissa and Dan in this author's Bound Duet series. They were such extraordinary friends and secondary characters. It was a special treat to get the entire story of these two that inspired everyone they knew. Their special meeting was sweet and funny, endearing me to them all over again. Dan was a character your heart never had to warm to. It's like he'd always been there waiting patiently for you to show up. Lissa was one of the most selfless and beautiful souls. I wanted to put her in my pocket and carry her with me. These two gave us a love story that burned brightly. While there is never a lack in sexual intensity in this author's books, I am always fascinated that she is able to give a full story line that doesn't necessarily revolve around that aspect. It allows for us to know the characters on a different level and in a different way. There was one crescendo moment that was so entirely fantastic, I could feel myself smiling like a Cheshire Cat, knowing the significance of the moment. It made the story that much sweeter and the end result that much more grand.

Stephie Walls did it again with Redemption, bringing me to the verge of tears only to drop me in the lap of love.

How do you put into words the most wonderful and worse thing ever?
That's the crux of the story and I wished I'd loved it as much as my friends.

I guessed what happened pretty early so all the cloak and dagger/skipping through time didn't do this story justice for me.
The concept should have worked but the H felt really creepy to begin in how close a relationship he had with his friends which made me wonder was I was reading a thriller? No.
I didn't feel a connection or get an emotional feel for/from all the characters which I'm gutted about because this deserved to be epic

Two things!

Omg HOLY FREAKING EMOTIONS.

Omg DAN!

If you have never read a Stephie Walls book before you are MISSING OUT. Stephie has this magical ability to rip out your heart and tear it to pieces while breathing life into your soul. Her books are emotional, so, so emotional. They touch on every nerve ending, they make you feel almost as much as the characters do. Her words are like poetry formed in breathtaking verses that sing. Her passion to not only her words but her characters and their stories is clearly visible at all times. How Stephie writes these books I'll never know but I urge her to never stop.

From the start of Redemption we are thrown into heartbreak and devastation. The suspense of the past claws at you while reading, it pulls on every internal string, enveloping. The flashbacks make you wonder and hold your attention so vividly. And when it all becomes clear it's a shock. So brutal and it makes you fear for Lissa’s future.

Meshed in with this past is the present. A stunning, highly charged present filled with hope and love and redemption. Dan & Lissa are truly mesmerizing, they come together so well and they are HOT. They are raw, carnal and intense. They breathe hope into the most broken parts. They are amazing. Dan is amazing. A love that fierce is what every person dreams of having.

Through it all, the pain, the past, the love and the present, something fierce grabs onto you and DOES NOT LET GO. Everything pounds into you and just holds you captive.

Redemption is a raw tale of life becoming what you make it. There is always love, always hope. You just have to go out and find it.

5 emotional, intense, inspirational stars!

Lissa Jackson is a music teacher and also has a probabtion officer from an accident in her past. She is trying to move on with her life by moving and starting over. When a knock on her door one night brings her face to face with a chance at beginning again.

Dan Hadley thinks he is meeting a blind date when he knocks on a door only to find out that he has been given the wrong address. Yet fate sometimes plays a funny role and soon he discovers he has met someone who could turn his life onto the right path.

As Lissa and Dan begin a new relationship they realize how perfect everything seems. Yet Lissa still holds secrets from Dan that she is afraid if he discovers he will leave her. When Lissa volunteers to help Brett and Annie with a problem they have, she understands the true meaning of giving back.

This was such a beautiful book on forgiveness and moving on from tragedy. I loved meeting Lissa and Dan first in Bound and then Freed but this book looks into Lissa and Dan's relationship and the past of each of them.

Through the book you get pieces of Lissa's past but never get the full picture until the very end and it completely breaks your heart. I can't imagine how much her heart went through and how it would have completely broken me to have to go through what she did. I was so disappointed with her parents and their reaction to it. How they treated their own daughter was so disgraceful and I am glad that she no longer has them in her life.

Lissa managed to slowly put the pieces together and I do understand why she was reluctant to tell Dan about her past thinking that he would leave her. I did want her to tell him though as I knew he would forgive her but I can't believe how long she waited to tell him. That honestly scared the heck out of me!

Stephie Walls has become one of my favourite authors from books like this that contain so much heart and really difficult subject matters that make you think that no matter what you are faced with, you truly deserve a chance at redemption, happiness and love. - By Rebecca

Stephie Walls has a way of pulling me into a story in a way that not many can. From the first page, I'm hooked. By the third chapter, I'm emotionally invested. These characters are real to me. They're my friends. I NEED to know what's going to happen. It's almost like I can't breath until I know.

Redemption is no different. It was raw, beautiful, and heartwarming.

Lissa had such an incredible journey. I cried for her. I wanted to hold her. I rejoiced with her.

This book is so much more than a love story between two people. It’s a love between friends. And most importantly, it’s about finding self love and redemption.

A MUST read!

Stephie Walls is fast becoming one of my go to authors. After reading Bound and Freed, I knew I wasn't done reading more from this author, especially when I found that Redemption was about Dan and Lissa, characters that were also important in the Bound & Freed series.

We get a woman who is broken beyond repair and does nothing but blame herself for something tragic that happened to her in the past and she's ashamed of what happened. She has left her hometown and has moved as far away as she possibly can to find redemption for what happened.

Lissa and Dan meet accidentally and within a matter of a short period of time, Dan has fallen head over heels in love with Lissa, something he never thought would happen. He met her by mistake and he's glad she was the biggest, best mistake he could have made that night he met her.

As Lissa is trying to cope with herself, her feelings and her past, she's looking for redemption, or more like finds it in love once again.

This story has touched my heart just as much as Bound & Freed has. Ms. Walls has a way with words that will leave your emotions reeling.

This whole series has been one of my favorites thus far this year!

I absolutely loved this story and was so happy that Dan and Lissa got to tell us their story.

I was a mess because of the last book that I've read. A mess because I loved it so much and I didn't want it to end. You know that feeling of wanting to keep reading and reading??? Well if you do you know how I was feeling.
Stephie Walls has an intense and heartfelt writting that can put you into tears in a sec. She has the ability to put herself under your skin and make you feel things that you don't want to.
Every single book of her made me dream, laugh and cry at the same time. She's amazing and that reflects on her books.
Redemption tells the stories of Melissa "Lissa " and Daniel.
But before I continue I need to say one thing. You should read the Bound series first because despite Redemption is a standalone you can meet the main characters on those books. Trust me... You really need to...
Lissa is a selfless girl that offers herself to help her best friend. She's funny and kind but behind that hides a girl that is hunted for her past. In order to have a future she hides that past from her boyfriend but that can end so wrong.
Daniel is a funny guy with a big heart. He was severely hurt in the past and didn't want any commitment but when he sees the beautiful Lissa he knows only one thing. He wants her so he fall in love head over heels...
Can her secrets tear them apart? Can Daniel help Lissa heal? Can they find their happily ever after?
That's it, I'm speechless. This woman has a way with words that can take me from my comfort zone and toss me into some kind of twilight zone because one minute I'm happy and in the next I'm crying my eyes out.
Jesus I thought that the first books were intense and dayum I didn't saw this coming.
The story unfolds in a way so intense, so amazing and sometime so painful that I thought I couldn't handle it. How could I?
There were parts that I wanted to toss my Kindle down and scream until my throat hurted.
Amazing, simply amazing.
Once I started to read this book I was so hooked that I couldn't put it down, I simply couldn't.
The fact that the book tells the present but also let us know the past made me love this story even more. It made me see why things were the way they were. It's amazing, simply and entirely beautiful and superb.
Stephie what are you doing to me? Why do I need to suffer like this? Dayum woman I love your books. Every single one of them and I can't even imagine what's about to come.

Let me start by saying you're in somewhat of a catch 22 with this book. If you read the Bound & Freed Duet, you'll recognize Dan and Lissa and the bones of their story from the second book, Freed. And while I was hoping that Stephie Walls would give us Dan and Lissa's story, I found myself skimming some of the sections because they were redundant to what I already knew about them. However, I felt that repeating some of their story was essential to understanding their relationships and journey to happily ever after. On the other side, if you read Redemption first, you'll learn details about their best friends that would take away from Bound & Freed. That being said, this book can be read as a standalone, but I would recommend reading the duet first if you are so inclined.

Dan and Lissa intrigued me when I met them in Freed, and I wanted to know more about they're histories and how they found their happily ever after. What I didn't expect was how much heartbreak I would experience along the way. Ms. Walls has a special way of pulling the emotions out of not only her characters but her readers as well. I loved how she incorporated pieces of Lissa's past throughout her love story. It provided the reader a way to connect with her emotions without fully understanding the depth of her pain. When all is revealed, it is truly devastating. I couldn't imagine internalizing the hurt and trauma as well as withstanding the hatred from everyone around Lissa. She struggled throughout the book to rid herself of the demons that haunted her and believe that anyone could accept her knowing about her past. I believed that she had found unconditional love in Dan and in her friendship with Annie and Brett, but I needed her to believe it, too. This was truly a story of loss, love, and redemption.

I really wish I could give this book 10 stars! I can't even begin to explain how amazing this story is. I devoured this book from the first page. It's no secret that I love Stephie Walls writing but this book has taken it to a whole new level for me. Redemption has just knocked many books out of my top read list and this is easily of top 3 of all time for me!

This book is everything! Dan and Lissa's story had me hooked right away, the story of how they met was so unique and their relationship is one that you could only dream of.

I love how the book is written in the present taking you back to the past in pieces to unravel Lissa's story. Lissa's past was a tragic one, one that will have you in tears & your stomach in knots feeling for this woman who lost it all. She is an amazing woman, always giving to others and never allowing herself to move forward.

Dan is the ultimate, he's big and sexy, but sweet and caring. Dan is searching for the kind of love his best friend has found with his wife and while looking he mistakenly stumbles upon Lissa who turns his life right side up.

This story will have you laughing and crying but also wanting to root the characters on while they have their ups and downs.

This book is a MUST READ for all romance readers! I'm so glad I got to read this book!

Stephie Walls had given readers an emotional story about allowing yourself to have a second chance at finding happiness. Told in alternating first person I felt I could truly immerse myself and be friends with Lissa and Dan. Lissa is a character I enjoyed getting to discover. With flash back chapters interspersed, readers are strung along to get to the bottom of Lissa’s tragic past. Walls did a great job of building the anticipation, then to give readers the emotionally devastating events that have Lissa stuck on her own self imposed purgatory. Dan is a notorious player who sees what his best friend has with a beautiful wife and realizes how empty his life is. During an accidental encounter with Lissa, Dan finally sees hope for himself. Walls takes us on the adventure of new love and more importantly, self love and realizing everyone can find redemption.

I fell in love with Dan and Lissa in Freed (while both side characters, they play an integral role in the plot in that book), and couldn't wait to find out their secrets, especially Lissa. Stephie Walks tackles a very difficult subject, which forces the reader to reevaluate their thoughts on the matter (bravo, it was done extremely well!).

The writing was done very well, the plot was complex, and the characters were well-developed. I'm so glad that Lissa found her redemption by the end! A definite reread!

I really enjoyed Stephie Walls' latest book, which is very appropriately title Redemption. Great writing as usual, including something I never saw coming, this story was a painful but hopeful journey. I was happy to see Lissa's character's journey from rock bottom and how she finally found her way out of her grief.

I didn't read the series this book spun off from and had no issues reading it as a standalone. If you're a fan of emotional stories, this one is for you!!

A broken soul finds redemption through love, acceptance and forgiveness!

Redemption by Stephie Walls is a rollercoaster story of highs and lows, laugh out loud moments then sudden cry escapades; giving you a MUST read that will not disappoint!

Even though Redemption is considered a standalone novel; both Lissa and Dan are found in Bound & Freed, previous books of Ms. Walls. I would advise to read those since you are able to learn their characters beforehand.

Lissa is strong, giving, loving and puts others before herself. She comes from a tragic past which has left her stabilized in the now and can’t seem to move forward. Within the chapters, glimpses of her past are brought forward and the story unravels… Ms. Walls is a genius on how she wrote this romance. Lissa’s character is surreal. Her past is gripping! It’s like your heart is being tugged and you're on the edge of your seat wanting her to have the most positive outcome in life! Enter Dan…

As we have seen Dan in the previous books, he is your manwhore, but in Redemption we see his other side especially when him and Lissa come together. He has a heart full of gold and when Lissa’s secret is revealed, he is non-judgmental, he stands by his love no matter the situation. Can we say SWOON?!

This book deserves more than 5 stars! Its unbelievable!

Always killing me with the prologue!
She sucks me in until I'm on the edge of my seat and keeps me there, wondering and waiting for the pieces to fall together. Such a beautiful story of, well, redemption. Finding your way through the ugly and learning to live again. There is always a message in Stephies books, and this one is just as powerful.

Bound, and then Freed, left me wanting in only one way. I NEEDED to know Lissa's story. Redemption did not disappoint. Although it certainly isn't necessary, I'd absolutely recommend reading the Bound and Freed duet before embarking on the soul crushing path that is Redemption since the time lines and characters overlap. Ok, soul crushing may be a bit extreme, but the transitions from past to present caused both ugly crying and laughing out loud with their lows and highs. Reading Redemption was like nothing I've ever experienced in a literary sense. It's not your typical romance novel. Lissa's past is so very agonizing that she can't see the future through the pain. Dan is so different with Lissa than the man we see in Bound and Freed. He's still a great friend, but now we see the man who loves with all he has. Lissa's secret could destroy everything and the author reveals pieces of the puzzle along the way, but don't read ahead! There's a purpose and Stephie Walls writing is brilliant. The moment her secret is revealed to the reader is a mind numbing, nausea inducing, heart shredding event. Like everything this author writes, it's real. That's what I love about about her writing. She writes about love, but includes messages about overcoming real struggles that are often swept under the rug. All of this angst from the past intertwines with Lissa and Dan building a relationship looking toward the future. The moment they met was one of my favorite parts. I'm a sucker for witty banter and Redemption included gems like:
“Are you always this sweet?” It was a line, but I was okay with him feeding it to me...“Not usually, no. I’m normally quite snarky and sarcastic. You caught me on a good night.”
So, in short, READ REDEMPTION! Just don't start it late at night because you won't be getting any sleep.

When I started reading REDEMPTION, I wasn't really sure what the story was about. Since I had already read BOUND & FREED, it didn't take me long to realize it was Dan & Lissa's story. They were secondary characters in FREED. Best friend's of Brett and Annie.

Lissa was kind of a mystery in FREED, and this is the telling of how she ended up where she was, without family or friends. And the cute way that Dan and she had met. How she and Annie were instant friends, and the connection between the four people were destined for life. How you think you know a character in one book, to find you don't know them at all in the next. Great writing skills I guess!!

Lots of love and heartache in Redemption. Lissa Jackson is one haunted soul. Thinking she would never find love or forgiveness or that she even deserved such. Dan Hadley walks into her life and even braves his drastic allergy to her cat Cosmo to win her over. A stroke of serendipity. He was more than just good looks. He had a brain and fantastic personality. An answer to a prayer.

Dan's bestfriend Brett Ryann is just too perfect, so I'll skip over Saint Brett. Annie has had her share of disappointments and heartaches, so I guess she deserves Saint Brett. And I wish Annie's ex-bad-boyfriend Gray Dearsley could have been saved. This can be read as a standalone, but if you want to met the characters from the beginning read BOUND & FREED first.

Redemption was a captivating tale that had me hooked until the end. Full of intense emotion, this book will leave you wanting more, page after page, chapter after chapter. This is Dan and Lissa's story and how they met is definitely a tale for a romance novel. However this story is more than just a romance. As the title suggest, its a story of Redemption as least through the eyes of the person who believes they need redemption.
Stephie Walls gave us developed characters in this novel. Dan, the previous manwhore, was totally committed to Lissa after they met. He was sweet and caring and always so attentive that you can't help but love him. Lissa on the other hand was strong and giving, even though she had a tragic past that haunted her and we see it in many of the flashback and current decisions she had to make. However together they made the perfect couple and I loved watching their relationship develop throughout the story.
This novel while tragic, was also one of hope, love, healing and forgiveness and will have you rooting for all the characters. You will experience a range of emotions as you go through the chapters and Lissa's story, while told in bits and pieces through flashbacks, will definitely break your heart.
This well-written heartfelt novel was an excellent read.

Description: Redemption is a standalone novel!
However, characters crossover from the Bound & Freed Series.
Melissa Jackson - looking for the ultimate forgiveness.
Daniel Hadley - Forever the playboy, Dan falls for the red head with the jaded past.
Wow! Where to begin is difficult. I am having a world wind of emotions right now. My heart is breaking & I am in tears. The premise of this novel is very intriguing & the prologue will capture your heart. Beautiful & endearing piece of literature that reflects the title & blurb perfectly. With seasoned characters that are audacious & articulate. Supporting characters are engaging & a intrical part of the story & well interwoven into the story. Throughout the novel I was in tears & had to stop for a few moments. A gripping plot that interlaces showing glimpses of Lissa's past are brought foreward & living in the now as the story unravels. This author create's stories & character's that you can relate to & touch your heart. You will need two tissue boxes next to you while reading. This novel is about tragedy, love, second chance's, forgiveness, friendship's, selfishness, & sacrifice. I highly recommend reading this novel & check out this authors other masterspieces because that's what they are. I volunteerly reviewed an advanced reading copy of this book.

Redemption is written in a unique way and really liked how Stephie Walls brought in a refreshing story line albeit a sad one , when we find out some certain things my heart just went out to the characters and the pain that they must have went through . This book will be my first read by the author and it wont be my last I plain to read her past ones too if they can pool me in like the way redemption did there will be no doubt that I'll enjoy it . Right at the first meeting for the hero and heroine I was just giddy they are super adorable and it was a quirky way for a first meeting , loved how kind Dan and Lissa are to one another it's like they are made for the other and were there when they need someone . You will go through so many emotions and that is what really draws me in is when a author shows great talent to make their readers feel something .
