I downloaded this boxed set because it said in the synopsis,
"this series has seven exciting books that readers have compared to other popular vampire romance novels such as: A Shade of Vampire Series by Bella Forest, the Immortals After Dark Series by Kresley Cole , The Sookie Stackhouse Novels (True Blood) by Charlaine Harris, The Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer, The Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead, and The Black Dagger Brotherhood Series by J.R. Ward."
An adult paranormal romance series, I was all for it.
Then this showed up ⤵
Popular Answered Questions
"Is there explicit sex in this book?"
Answer, "There is actually no sex in this book"
So how can it compare itself to the Kresley Cole IAD series and the J.R. Ward BDB series.
It CAN'T Compare to adult books if it is Young Adult.
Authors please don't compare your Young Adult books to Adult books in your synopsis, then cry foul when you get a review like this one.
I Do Not Read Young Adult & I take Offense to Authors who try to get that extra penny by being intentionally dishonest. There are more readers for Young Adult than Adult. Misrepesentation of your book gets you bad reviews.
I checked many reviews After I downloaded this.
Any reference to Adult Situations infer there are None.

I picked up this trilogy because I had read the first book only to have it end with a major cliff hanger. It was recently running free on kindle (Note this may not be free on kindle now), so I picked it up for some closure . The third book still leaves much unanswered, and although not a cliff hanger like the first book it still leaves you unsatisfied. So the story has some good elements (the Halloween Ball was interesting), but some story parts are mediocre, (such as Vicky's mother, Ann, and her vampire lover). I do love Zak the hell hound; the author is consistent with his character and Zak adds plenty of action and antics to Darien and Victoria's romantic journey. I also like the sensible Elliot, Sue, Karl, and Rupert, who makes me think of a terrier. There is minor profanity, which I would rather not read, but thankfully it does not dominate the story. There is plenty of sensuality without all the sexual details. This is a story about vampires, werewolves, and fairy magic, so there are violent episodes and some are a bit gory and gross. So, not a great read for me, but fans of paranormal should be pleased.

This was an entertaining read. It uses a few romance tropes with some paranormal ones. Usually they’re over done, but I found this one pretty good. It wasn’t the best ever I’ve read and it definitely wasn’t the worse. I read the first book when it was a freebie back in 2015 and grabbed this bundle when it went on sale for $0.99 and I don’t think I will get the rest of the series because it ended well enough for me. Plus I read some of the reviews for later books and they didn’t seem too promising.
I found the main couple cute even though it started out with the PA and the billionaire boss … but it was well done for me. I will say that the “friends” she had from college are bad, immature, and pretty much idiotic. I got tired of hearing them constantly tease her about everything, it got hella annoying. Another thing was that they weren’t reliable … at … all. I mean I look out for my friends, to the best of my ability, whenever I go anywhere. Her friends though … stunk at it. Maybe that age group most are pretty self-centered, who knows? She was way more mature than they were that is for sure.
I liked the paranormal/magic for the most part. It was really simple and the rules seemed a bit loose at times. It sure seemed like learning how to do magic was way too simple though.
The plots/arcs for the three books were interesting. I liked the main one for books 1 and 2. The one for book 3 was a bit iffy and seemed to be over pretty quickly. I did enjoy Vicky’s mom’s boyfriend, that part was a hoot. I also love her little hellhound, the most interesting interpretation for one that I’ve read in a while.
I might read this again if I were looking for a light, quick read, and a bit of a distraction.

An excellent set of stories which I highly recommend! I enjoyed reading about Victoria meeting Darian and his many friends. You have a series of mysteries, action, romance and plenty of humor. Read and meet Elliot, Clara,Rupert , Sue and many more. My third favorite is Zak, which you will enjoy reading about!

Got this for free on google books promotion
Considered dropping it multiple times, rather mediocre. Think I would've been better off if I hadn't bothered reading it. It feels like mid-tier fanfiction in many respects. I'd say the only thing that I am glad I read this for was the tentacled pet character, he's great. Though some odd recurring writing choices...phrases akin to he wriggled his ends are common throughout.

Of course, if a romance book has good chemistry between the leads, writing flaws are easier to overlook, but their main dynamic is:
Him: man she's hot/blood looks tasty, but I can't right now because:
- she's more valuable as an employee
- mystery needs to be solved
- one or both of our lives is currently in danger
Her: man he's hot, but I can't because:
- he's my boss
- does he even like me anyways
- I just want to do whatever will help him

And they don't really have a moment where they actually pay off the relationship becoming officially romantic. Like a dramatic kiss or first night or w/e. The first kiss isn't presented as particularly romantic so much as a plot device, and the first night together is a discretion shot. Feels oddly like a fanfiction where the standalone NSFW chapters were cut for publication. Also for a guy that's hundreds of years old, he has some intense insecurity and is really possessive. Like he's jealous of her pet...repeatedly and intensely, like he'd be willing to kill it if he thought she wouldn't be mad about it. And the root of plot driving problems are rash actions he takes because he's insecure/jealous and can't control himself.

There are a variety of grammar and spelling mistakes throughout. Even characters' names are misspelled numerous times. As could be expected of writing with such basic mistakes, there are also multiple instances of strange word choice and ambiguous sentence structure.

There's a random streak of Asian exoticism that left a bad taste in my mouth...
and the like. After the second multi-paragraph section of gushing over Japanese culture stuff I was already cringing.

And then there's the variety of "feels toxic/creep" stuff that had me
[image error]
There's also a reoccurring "she was unsure what to do, because she didn't want to do something that would get her fired" dynamic that was really NOPE for me, after 5 times I quit counting. Pretty sure IRL would be a toxic job for her.

He likes that she has no poker face, because he can tell what she's thinking. Pretty creepy when put that way...

And he decides she needs help

Then she's relieved he didn't fire her the next day. Thank goodness he isn't firing her for letting him do all that boundary pushing!

Don't feel like doing a whole book writeup, but that should be enough symptoms to give anyone a clear idea of if they'd like reading it or not.

Pros: Gathering Tinder started out strong. I liked the hero and heroine. The flavor vaguely reminded me of some of Amanda Ashley's vampire books that I've read, except I thought Wetzel's work was better. Smoke Rising picked up pace at the end and finished strong. My favorite lines in the whole volume came from Smoke Rising: "Zak had gone down with her on one of her first runs, but he had gotten his tentacle caught in the treadmill. It had been all Vicky could do to keep him from tearing the machine apart." That had me laughing out loud.

Cons: Flying Sparks and Smoke Rising had large portions that really dragged for me. I ended up reading in bits in pieces because these sections couldn't hold my attention for long. I could have done without the short story "First Kiss," as it didn't really add anything. A little better proofreading would have helped the volume too. The quickest example actually comes from the acknowledgments in Flying Sparks: "You have been there to help me feed plod [sic] bunnies when they need fatting [sic] up and chase them down then [sic] they got out of hand." Typos like this cropped up in Flying Sparks in particular.

Overall, I would certainly recommend this box set.

I picked this box set cause I had read the first book and liked it. It turned out to be a sensible choice.

Book two starts from the point where the first one ended and mark a good progression in the story. The supernatural world is rising fast, there is a hunger for power and the human world is struggling against it. There is devastation everywhere. Lives lost - human and supernatural. But who is responsible for it? What is their motive? How will they be stopped?

Though the series started off slow, the story picks up in book two. Several new characters come in, new alliances are formed and so too new enemies emerge. Victoria and Darien's feeling for each other grows stronger and they will stand together against the enemies out there to get them.

I loved book three. It is funny and engaging. There is so much happening here. A furious hellhound and the Wild Hunt... wow... There are quite a few stressful moments and I was unsure what would happen next, but that made it all the more exciting.

Worth reading. Will be picking up the rest of the books in the series.

What I liked about this book Vicky has so many people willing to die just to protect her. I love the fact she got a 900 hundred year old vampire to fall in love with her with even trying. I didn't like how so much bad stuff started happening to her after she started working for Darien. She was very excepting of all the strange things happening to and around her. It has a lot of action, humor and monsters. I love how the fae, vampires and werewolves were able to party together it was amazing. I felt sorry for her that the fae kept picking on her, doing all types of enchantments and spells on her. I love Zak, he was so protective and in love with her. The way him and Darien fought over her all the time was funny. Her and Darien in my opinion took to long to hook up. I wanted to learn more about Rupert and Clara. I don't like how this last book ended, I'm looking forward to reading the remaining books.

Good but lacks passion

I liked the story line of these books. It was compelling and kept me guessing. The only thing that annoyed me was the romance. The characters feelings aren't exactly explained. There's no passion between them. The author skipped over the first kiss and wasn't exactly described. Its really great when you read a romance and they build the passion and feelings between the characters but then build a great first kiss or first night together. All can be done really tastefully but I feel the romance was lacking in this book. The feelings between the characters were hardly explained and no progression for you to realise these characters love each other and will do anything for each other. You can't fall in love with their relationship as it's not described well enough. If it was I would have given this book a 5 star.

Not what I expected...

I kind of wish there were half stars available...this would be 3.5 stars. I expected three stories in a series, and this is three parts of a saga. There is no ending to either the first or second...I don’t know about the final because I didn’t manage to wade through it. Lots of interesting characters and side stories, but it has the slowest romance I think I have ever read. Sweet build, just not going reaching any results until the final book...at least I think it might be a “happily ever after” at the end of the saga. I simply didn’t have patience enough to find out.
For those who enjoy deeper stories with a wide variety of characters and twists...this could be the book for you. If you’re looking for a “love at first sight” story, this is not it.

I absolutely loved this set. I'm planning to read the next three books in the series as well. Alot of times paranormal romance books are all about how hot the sex is. They try hard to put as much of that into the story and spend way too much time detailing it. Thus the storyline seems week because it's just words around lots and lots of sex. This set wasn't anything like that. You are a great love story that took time to bloom. There was plenty of action and adventure and a well weaved storyline. I applaud the writer for writing a story that had me from the very beginning and didn't let go.

Interesting

My usual romance read is a bit more vivid, so this is not what I typically look for. I’m in debate as to what I think. I’m curious enough to pursue the other books, but at the same time, not that interested in continuing. She’s a good writer, but I don’t feel like any of the books stand alone well. You really need to read the books prior to understand what is going on.

missed the point

Where is the build up?!? Where is the big reveal of "i love you"?!? You left a big chunk of character development. ANNND why is she so cool about everything? She is either fainting or giggling. Vicky became annoying by the 3rd book. 1 & 2 alone deserve 5 stars; 3 just was just so wrong. 2 stars bc you didn't deliver another amazing adventure as in the previous books.

An enthralling read

Despite the frequent misspelled words "petted" (pet) and "then" (than), an entire chapter in book one that didn't exist outside the boxed set and seemed more of a prologue to book two, and other random but irritating errors, the story was excellent. I intend to buy the rest of this series as soon as I have the funds available, after bills are paid. I can't wait to find out what more needs doing, and why he is the way he is (keeping it spoiler free).

Surprisingly

I enjoyed this series, I felt like I learned a different vision of vampire and werewolf stories, including fay. However, I usually complain in my reviews that there is too much sex, I feel it is used as filler. I have to say for this story, it was exceedingly full of actual story. My only complaint (as I laugh at myself) is that this book could have had more sex.

The first three books in the series. The first was wonderful and complex with intelligent characters. The second seemed like the characters forgot how to think intelligently considering their ages, experiences and positions. The third had them making better decisions, although there were still a few that just didn't jive with their abilities. There were some great laugh out loud moments in the third book too.

You have to read it!

The Author did an amazing job of making you see the characters and the scenes in this story. You are automatically drawn in to the group of characters who are surprisingly different from what you might have read before! They take you on their adventures and if you want a love story you will enjoy this one! I'm looking forward to reading more of this story line and more from this Author.

Victoria is hired as a personal assistant for the mysterious Damien. She quickly finds out he is a vampire when he protects her from various attempts to harm her. She is immediately accepting of the information. The book, well it kept me reading, is sanitized from any emotion, violence or sexuality. Will not continue the series.

Great Read

I very much enjoyed the books. The storyline keeps you guessing.

I like that you get both characters as narrators and you really get to know them well. There is not a rush to romance and the author takes time to develop the relationship.

There are a lot of great characters. The humor balances the more dark actions and keeps the story fun too.

A Good Read

Three times the fun. I read each book separately with weeks in between to stretch out the reading enjoyed. Really liked the characters, but struggled with Vicky's unquestioning accepting of anything unexpected (almost airhead like). Overall I enjoyed the stories to continue reading the series. I hop there is more Zak.

I'd forgotten that I read these stories a while ago and quite by chance started reading book 1 again. I was hooked. In the past I read 5 of these Kindling Flame novels and now I can't put them down - again.

As an author myself, it takes a good story to keep me engaged and keep me there, especially to the level where one shed the odd tear. For what its worth - that's a good review from me.

I'm a sucker for a good, good-vampire story. Ultimately, age seems to be a factor in this one. I guess 900 years is more than enough time to allow for that to manifest.

Good

I enjoyed these book. Wish they had some juicy sex scenes but they didn't have any! Dissatisfied because that so they lost a star. But I loved the drama and character building. Loved the different characters and bonds. Loved Zak the hellhound.

Vampire romance

A wholly interesting start that caused me to read this absorbing tale way too quickly. Of course Victoria is also an exceptional beauty but very stoic in learning about the supernatural.
