If I'm being honest, Mizu Sahara could illustrate/write anything and I'd probably consume it, as her illustration style makes my heart skip multiple beats, or that could be just a heart problem of mine, that happens to coincide with looking at this art style, who knows???
I mean I could go on for paragraphs about how Mizu Sahara draws the most wonderful hair, or the colour on her covers, or the way she draws hands, but I think the thing that stands out in this series is like how she draws the perfect stills of people dancing. I mean it's really hard to like communicate someone on their own dancing, in just one or two images, but Mizu Sahara like nails it perfectly, and even gets down the emotions and flare of flamenco.
Additionally, I really like how Sahara Mizu throws gender roles and gender expectations into trash.

What a suprising read!! Very weird but at the same time charming.

𝗧𝘄: 𝗯𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗮𝗻𝘅𝗶𝗲𝘁𝘆, 𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘂𝗺𝗮.

This manga is about Ichinose Kimitaka who taught his friends how to play basketball. Despite his experience with the sport, his friends quickly outmatched him in skill. Due to his frustration and jealousy, a big incident happened. When he realised his fault, he trying to visit the hospital only to overhear those same 'friends' discussing how they wished he'd just kill himself.

As he decided to get rid of his special basketball shoes, he met a girl who was just as frustrated, throwing her own dancing shoes away. She was so tall, and her hands and feet are so large, that she had been rejected from her chosen hobby of Spanish dancing. He urged her to give basketball a try, and the two exchanged their shoes instead of throwing them away. Entering high school, Kimitaka learns that meeting him have changed that girl's life for the better, and she is now a happy, social basketball player. This make Kimitaka to questioning about his own life, and would he be able to find the courage to make new friends and pursue his own talents?

This is very unique storyline. Of course at first I did not think much about this manga. But it exceed my expectation. I love how this manga shows a realistic feelings of teenagers. Its shows how teenagers can be insecure, can have a trauma, envy and jealous of someone that better than them. It was normal for them to go through this. But it also highlight that, a person could regret their action and they want to change. Change to be a better person.

Kimitaka blame himself a lot, i mean of course he does considering on his action toward his parents. He was blinded by his own feelings that he could not control his action. By this, it affect him a lot emotionally, even make him socially awkward. As the story progressed, we get to see him finally have a courages to do something. Pretty interesting on how he and the girl exchanges their goals. The girl with basketball, Kimitaka with Spanish dancing. Hoping for these two to meet and talk.

Also love some of the words in this volume <3

--- Tetsugaku Letra 1-6 ---
Gambar: Simpel tapi sangat menggugah.
Penokohan: Saya menyukai nyaris semua tokoh^^ Terutama tiga sahabat.

Vol.1-6 (Completed series)

I said I wouldn't put the manga I read on my Goodreads list, but I read so many of them lately that I thought I should at least talk about those I liked the most.

Basically, Tetsugaku Letra is a coming of age story about teenagers with issues and isn't it the most unoriginal theme ever? But it's done in a very sweet, sometimes funny, heartwarming, making-you-want-to-be-brave way. Also, the main character, a teenage boy, grows up while learning Spanish dancing and that's something I've definitely never seen in a manga before.

Besides, there're only 6 volumes, so it's a fast read.

Tetsugaku letra is a hidden treasure. Unfortunately it isn't as popular as it should be. It includes original plot and relatable, well rounded characters.
I highly recommend reading it, even if you're not very into slice-of-life mangas. It's just amazing, please give it a try.

North American manga publishers are (finally!) starting to cater to the manga fans who were young during the Bubble and have since grown out of, say, Arina Tanemura and Tite Kubo. Unfortunately, there is still a shortage of good josei and seinen titles, so I sometimes resort to French stores to support manga artists whose work I am unlikely to find in American stores any time soon (looking at you, Chica Umino's "March Comes in Like a Lion").

Mizu Sahara is another manga artist with insufficient exposure in the anglophone market (although I believe she is fairly popular in the josei/seinen readership). In this story, she gives us three protagonists who are (a) awkward teenage boys (b) who want to challenge themselves to grow and become better versions of themselves and (c) who throw themselves head first into... flamenco. Because why not?

The other, more subsumed plot involves the first teenage boy, Kimitaka (who abandons basketball after a sour experience with jealousy, frustration, and loss of confidence) and a teenage girl named Takara (whose tall, lanky looks and large feet make it difficult for her to meet traditional female expectations or excel at dancing). At their lowest points, the two kids meet by accident and exchange the items that torment them: Kimitaka's red basketball shoes in exchange for Takara's red flamenco pumps. Each one leaves the encounter without trading contact info, and each decides to pursue a new life using their newly obtained goods. Kimitaka takes a bit longer to leave his comfort zone, but ultimately he decides to search for a flamenco teacher and the story rolls forward from that point.

I'm about four volumes in now, and I love how the author manages to show how each character evolves from despair to aspiration with the help of their friends and maybe a little bit of fearlessness (well, that may not be the right word, because they're clearly very nervous, but they're putting themselves out there anyway, so maybe "brave" is a better fit). Some characters begin to find new purpose in the things that once filled them with shame; some characters learn to put bad memories in the past and move forward; others rekindle their passion for things they thought they could no longer enjoy. It's a wonderfully human and compelling story with fleshed-out backstories and a lot of heart.

Recommended for anyone who enjoys slice-of-life stories that also have a larger story arc to explore (or in this case, multiple story arcs).

VŨ ĐIỆU GIÀY ĐỎ (TETSUGAKU LETRA) – MIZU SAHARA
Rate: 4.25/5

The psychological narratives of the characters are on point. This coming of age journey is about the rediscovery of the self: what does it mean to build trust in oneself again? What does it feel like to realize you have always been cared for by important people in your Life, and that you are not alone like you thought you were? And that despite self perception as a failure, you discovered that you actually were someone’s inspiration, who gave the person a good reason to believe in twhat they already have?

I love manga about niche stuff, and this one is about a high school dude who takes up flamenco dancing, so I felt pretty confident going in that I would dig it. But it's not just about flamenco dancing. In fact, so far no dancing has actually happened. It's more about the fear of putting yourself out there. Which is great, I love a good moody teen boy story, but I am eager to see some dancing happen.

The art is incredible, especially all the color illustrations. I would love to see this title get brought over to America.

Dan saya suka kedua-duanya (perlu dicatat, saya lebih suka baca shonen/seinen dibanding shoujo, jadi I'm pretty much picky kalo soal shoujo)

Tentang keluarga, bagaimana mereka saling mendukung satu sama lain.

(Review for all the serie)
A wholesome, beautiful and peculiar story about finding a place and becoming happy.
Actually it's not a romance, but a story about frienship: the three main characters are losers with issues, they then become friends and start supporting each other, bonding and growing together, finally starting to enjoy life. The girl is in the background as a plot device, and it was the perfect decision.
The story feels like seeing broken pieces being glued back together: healing and calming and satisfying.
That’s it. That’s what is all about: it doesn’t talk about special people, or something special they make, but it talks about what becomes special to them and how it has worth, even if it’s not something outstanding. The point is saying that everything, if it makes you happy and it’s done with good intention, has a value within it. Even if it doesn’t end up being the best among everything and even more if it makes you smile with the people you feel good with.
At last, I really adored the characters, their problems and quirkiness, the diversity, and overall how good the story flowed. It felt so right for the time and place I'm with my life right now.

Also, “a person worth is decided based on how considerate they are of a stranger’s pain”.
That is something I want to quote so hard, and I’ll keep with myself to remind for a long time.

I read through all that they have so far of this series. I think it's weird that he wear's women's shoes, but I still enjoyed the series. In particular I liked the friendship aspects and that it shows some realities in humanity such as our weakness, struggle to live and to move on, and how painful it is when bullying is involved.
