A national debate continues to rage in regard to 2nd amendment rights in contemporary society. This collection will deal with concerns about domestic violence committed by guns, the ramifications of a widely armed citizenry, the governments failure to pass comprehensive gun legislation, as well as police brutality, strong gun lobbies, open-carry laws, home-grown terrorism, fatal shootings of black men by police in Louisiana and Minnesota, and the Orlando massacre. From domestic terrorism, to the Black Lives Matter movement articles in this title will reflect differences in policy views on the subject in the longstanding debate around gun rights and gun control.
This book is a collection of short articles, mainly from newspapers, on the issues surrounding guns in America. The quality of the articles is very uneven. Some are plain rants, composed of imperatives ("Ban guns! ..."), thereby giving some credibility to Alistair MacIntyre's thesis in After Virtue that the breakdown of moral and political dialog in modern society results from widespread acceptance of emotivism as an ethical theory. Others offer extended, reasoned argument and appeals to data and evidence. Many are simply too short to make a reasonable case for or against anything. Overall, this volume did not provide enough rational argument and evidence to help me come to an informed opinion about the issues.
