Android Assassins

Rate this book
Max Chase, FBI special agent, is sent to witness a murder. He’s not to stop it, merely to film it so they have leverage on the killer. With his target’s skills, the FBI is far more interested in wielding him as a weapon in their employ than imprisoning him.

But the setup goes all wrong. The elite assassin is himself murdered by not one but five assailants. When those attackers turn out to be androids, who turn towards Chase and smile when the murder’s done, Chase is marked as the mastermind behind the crime.

Now he’s on the run for his life, the most wanted man in America, not just to the FBI but to every intelligence agency in the country. And once his face is sprawled all over the media, there isn’t a cop or a fireman or a Good Samaritan who isn’t looking to turn him in.

For Max it’s all a game. Literally. Because this is his initiation into the FBI-FD, the Futurist Division of the FBI. Tasked with keeping those wielding breakthrough technologies from causing an apocalypse, or the next closest thing, the department is on a tight budget, understaffed and overworked. Their solution: the Setup. If Max can survive the frame AND bring in the actual mastermind without being killed under the ever-watchful eye of an angry nation, he can pick up his FBI-FD badge. Until then he won’t get one iota of help from the department.

They won’t even acknowledge that he exists.

And that last part is definitely a problem, since his genius wife and prodigal twelve-year-old boy are caught up in the dragnet. If he thought they were estranged before...

Join the hunt for what is sure to be your favorite marked man and dysfunctional family!

While action-packed sci-fi/techno-thrillers set in the near future are my forte, I also stray into other genres from time to time, such as space operas, paranormal fantasy, and detective stories. All my novels can be described as action-thrillers, no matter the sub-genre.

You can sample my writing with a free sci-fi e-book set in the near future by visiting my website https://deancmoore.com and signing up for my email list.

I live in the country where I breed bluebirds, which are endangered in these parts, as my small contribution to restoring nature's balance. When I'm not writing, or researching my next book, I may also be found socializing with friends, or working in the garden.

If you'd like to know what compels me to write, it's simple. I write as a force for peace. Fiction has a way of engaging our whole minds, not just our intellects, but various layers of our conscious, superconscious, and unconscious. Novels also encourage our left and right cerebral hemispheres to get in sync and, with just enough magic and wizardry, can help to transform people into more enlightened souls (the writer included) better than a hundred years of therapy or rational arguments to the same ends.

I've remained a lifelong student of philosophy, spirituality, psychology, science, and the arts.

This is one the most original, adrenaline full, conspiracy, mistery, thriller, roller coaster, witty, gritty, funny, and also sometimes down to earth scenarios I've ever read! It has everything, and more! I was exhausted by the time I finished reading it! And, Yes, they are coming! too!

This one wastes no time setting up the high-octane action, with our hero, Max Chase (cool-cheesy- on the nose- name) is framed for the murder of an elite “fixer (by Android Assassins of course),” effectively turning Chase into America’s most wanted fugitive. All he needs to do now is stay one step ahead of the authorities whilst working out just what exactly is going on.
His investigation soon leads to him uncovering a container of androids at the L.A. docks, and he ends up enlisting three of them, an adult male, an adult female, and a 12-year-old child —as his security detail. As he’s the first to activate them, they respond to his orders. The android family Chase creates for himself doesn’t just end up assisting with his investigation, but also helps Chase’s relationship with his own estranged wife, Carmen, and equally estranged son, Donny, as well. They in turn help to humanize the androids. Both families benefit from the exchange even as Chase closes in on the bad guy. Of course, this is a rocky ride, as both families resist being unduly influenced by one another.
A last point I should make is I really enjoyed the villain, a tech genius who introduces a pseudo-science element to the tale. He channels chi through his chakras, works with Ley Lines crisscrossing the Earth, and is building a computer that can help him influence the chi grid for the entire planet.
This one has lots interesting ideas and enough action and thrills to keep the reader entertained.

Dean C. Moore is a fantastic science-fiction writer, his skill equal to Michael Crichton in language and knowledge, but he's not as well known, probably because Dean's work is a bit...weird. Fortunately, I love weird! His opening scene hooked me and didn't let go, the frenetic pacing taking me on a breathless, imaginative ride through a theater of quirky characters. Each one witty, brilliant and disturbed in their own way. If you've ever watched the amazing "Archer" series on Netflix, this is a similar over-the-top thrill ride with characters you're not sure you like at first, who soon become a joy to watch. The story is set in a near future where the good guys are hard to distinguish from the bad guys (wait that could be nowadays) with impressive androids stirring up chaos. I won't ruin it for you, but let me just reassure you there are a few breathers in there, as well as an over-arching theme of family and devotion (or at least tolerance). This is set in the same world as Dean's "Futurist" series, but I enjoyed it even more. It's an acquired taste worth cultivating!

Well what can I say, Dean C Moore writes the coolest, 100% action filled futuristic books out on the market. It feels more like this guy has been transported back here to give a report on what is in store for us in a few years time. I just love it.
So meet Max Chase a FBI special agent, a pretty cool dedicated bloke to his job, which has really cost him his marriage and 12-year-old son. To say that this three-way family relationship is a bit strained would be a massive under statement I mean how stubborn can you get. HEY LADY YOU AND YOUR BOY LAY LOW OR DIE. No, still not listening. This is a fiery family that stoked me and had me in stitches on every adrenaline rush page that they were on.
When Max is sent out on a case it ends in mass destruction in a big way and Max being set up as the Most Wanted man in the world, Yep the world, he just doesn’t do anything by halves. This is one all action movie type read with explosions and the wickedest arms technology that I couldn’t have dreamed up. Now Max and his family are well and truly up the creek without a paddle and the only way to get out of this situation is to pull together. Now it really steps up. Donny, Max’s son, is just super cool, how can one kid get so intelligent? Then there is Carmen, Max’s ex-wife, the dry humour between them just had me laugh every time they spoke to each other. It is just pure gold!
The thing is it all flows so darn natural, there is so much futuristic everything and yet as I read each sentence it was like I knew it all then as my memories, like stuff I had known for years. I wasn’t lost in the jargon or effects, I could just enjoy the plot which was total entertainment. This bad guy is one real fruit loop with a wish to rule to world, he has the brain but he hadn’t planned on the crazy unpredictable Chase family, no-one had. This is my second book by this author and I am glad to say that there is already more for me to read. Our future is safe, well for the moment anyway!

What can I say? The Futurists of the FBI have a strange way of recruiting. Max Chase has been set up and is now a wanted man. Problem is, his wife and son are being pursued too. They are accompanied in their journey to foil an evil genius by another ‘family’ of three androids. These three are made to resemble Chinese domestic workers but have massively useful powers. It looks bad – but it could be worse.

Dean C Moore has a vivid imagination – I’d hate to be in one of his dreams! The story here is long but the action never lets up. It’s set in the near future and there’s the horrible suspicion in the reader’s mind that some of these things could really happen. Not too many, I hope! This is an exciting, action-packed romp with a huge body-count but seasoned with a great deal of humour. I’d love to see a film of this. It’s vivid and thrilling – and probably hugely expensive in special effects!

Android Assassins is the first installment in Dean C. Moore's new series SETUP. One book, several conspiracies...Once again the author has taken a thought and created an intricate weave of multi topic, page turning, action and destruction. Social satire; environmental, current politics, humanity. Gifting the reader with a thrilling and UNPREDICTABLE book. This is not a quick, cozy read. It is a reader consuming, head scratching, belly laugh, what the ...., great read !!! There is also some 'give the reader food for thought' masterfully added. Sooo...Android Assassins is about how FBI Agent Max Chase, his high IQ family, wife Carmen, son Donny (a whole new dynamic to dysfunctional) and androids Fac, Sac and Tac (who lovingly become known as The Family Grim) 'handle' possible global domination. What is happening,? Who is involved? Does the why even matter? How do ANDROID ASSASSINS factor in? Is it a real world multi level video game? Some oligarch, the upper 1%, further fleecing the masses? The Chinese? ALEINS ??? "Very Douglas Adams meets Dean C Moore meets Quenti Tarantino" about sums it up...I received this book as an ARC for an honest review. Can't wait for the next installment to SETUP. I love the 'How to devise a weighting and integrating system to know which world (any) view is worth buying into' thoughts...

I was sent this book as an ARC and I'm very glad I was because this has to be one of the best books I have recently read. In fact we are in the middle of moving house and I kept being sidetracked from my task of packing to 'just read a bit more'!

Although some of the ideas seem a little implausible in terms of the science (but maybe I'm way out of touch with progress) I was gripped throughout. However, I can't see us having androids in the very near future that are as realistic as the ones portrayed in the book but I love the interaction between androids and humans and the way the androids developed more human characteristics e.g. a bit of sulking and humour.

This was a very fast paced and action-packed book and although this level of activity would not work well without a bit of sleep etc, Dean has thought of this (unlike many other authors) and used a natty technique on the part of the androids to counter any human failings.

I can't say a lot because this would become a spoiler but the way the plot unfolds is insightful and at times quite believable.

The main characters are great given that one is a child of 12 with an IQ of over 200 and a predisposition to be (understandably) quite full of himself. However, he does have a realistic side that recognises his errors and this makes him more likeable.

The language used in this book is better than your run of the mill Sci Fi and a real pleasure to see. One reviewer likened this to works by Michael Crichton and I would certainly agree with that.
But, don't expect a clean-cut conclusion and your typical happy ever after ending because (and I have hopes raised here) there may be a follow up...

Fast, furious, funny and ferocious. This was a top notch piece of entertainment for me. I should have guessed it from the title. Android Assassins… What’s not to love? I returned to Dean C Moore because of his ability to entertain. This might not be for everyone but I doubt anyone who picks it up will be disappointed by this clever and stylish book. It does exactly what it says on the tin. It had one additional ingredient, one that this author has aplenty and that is originality. What more can I say five stars from me.

I was given an ARC copy of this book from the author, on the promise that I would submit a review. I won't bother repeating the words of the other readers regarding the story contained in the book.

I must admit that Dean C. Moore is a good story teller. He uses a variety of methods to combine together a single philosophy. He covers interactive relationships, good vs bad, futurism, theologies or spiritualistic avenues and (a definitely quirky) wit.

Highly recommended.

Very fast start and then gets faster, Max Chase arrives to witness a murder but quickly realises that he is being set up, but by whom when the original set up is himself murdered and the androids who commit the murder look to Chase as the boss. The story then gets frenetic as we are introduced to his wife and son, both of these hate him, but his help comes in the shape of three Chinese androids. A bit silly but good fun.

The Matrix meets James Bond meets The Simpsons!

This is an action packed adventure, with the intrigue of The Matrix, the larger than life characters of James Bond and the humour of The Simpsons. The characters have walked straight off the pages of a Marvel comic with big personalities and a good deal of tongue-in-cheek humour. I loved Chase and his estranged family: genius wife, Carmen, and whiz kid son, Donny, who, despite resenting Chase, have to outwit their android opponents to save themselves and help him, after he is framed for murder. The androids, Sac Tac and Fac, whom they commandeer to assist them, are brilliantly conceived. A robot equivalent of the Chase family, they were by far my favourite characters. I could see this as a fast and furious film or a full-length cartoon. I would highly recommended it to fans of techno-thrillers.

Dean C Moore has a vision of the future where technology replaces humans with super-strength, super-powered androids and you’d better hope they’re on your side! The leading man, Chase, has a lot on his plate to out-wit those who set him up, not least in dealing with his estranged family, who are far from helpful. I do wonder what happened between them before this story began to make them want to vex him so!
Moore pulls no punches in this action packed techno thriller that’s got the pedal to the metal from start to finish. If you like your fiction futuristic and your battles blazing then this is the book for you.

You know where you are with Dean’s books!
Plenty of action and tongue in cheek humour, they sit on that line between the near future and the now, the question is, as always, which side is this one on? I started out thinking that it was overblown and far-fetched; as I read on I could see that the basis is there in the science of today and the (very) near future.
So the plot, is it a double cross, a setup or just a very comprehensive job interview, live and you pass? Finding out which is Chase’s function and he’s just got to work it out as he goes along.
I was pleased to see that he’s toned some of the more graphic elements in his previous work down a bit, without cutting back on the all-action approach. I think and hope that this will give him the wider audience he so richly deserves, the plot hums along and as it’s as clever as they all are. Nice to see the nods to the world he created in The Futurist as well.
There’s plenty of great action and a few unforgettable characters, not all of them what you might expect. The story goes global and really just shows us the inter-connectedness of everything that we have and do. And how the ruthless and savvy can take advantage of it.
The vision of the future that he projects, well it might not be nirvana but it as sure as hell will be exciting!
In the end, a great read which I thoroughly enjoyed, as a bonus, there’s some interesting stuff at the back.

In my opinion, this is Dean's best book to date. Max Chase witnesses the assassination of a super-spy by androids and immediately guesses he's been setup up by the notorious FBI Future Division. He attempts to warn his family to hide and stay clear, but given neither his wife nor son like him, his warning falls on deaf ears, at least until they uncover part of the plot themselves.

In Setup we are given a near perfect mix of cutting edge science, sardonic wit and family dynamics. Dean likes showing the ultimate technology as spiritual, but in this book, he makes that work in a way which feels natural and satisfying.

If you like interesting characters, humour and out there science and conspiracies, this book is definitely for you. If you enjoy a good thriller romp around the globe, you'll like Setup.

Dean as always provides you with a haunting future! It's Bladerunner mixed with I Robot and Minority Report!
Max Chase has been set up and if his family wasn't so deeply estranged and hateful they'd get through it better.
After being asked to tape an assassination he is then framed and pulls his family and some androids into the equation while figuring it out and trying in his own twisted way to protect his wife and son!
Words were a bit overwhelming at times and got lost in the descriptions but as always with Dean a good journey.

The book starts with a soon to happen murder. Who starts a book with a murder? They usually start out with some droll beginning of it was a dark and stormy night or some such over worn cliché.

The first page starts it off with the main character set to witness a murder. Let me use an analogy from this point since I have no intention of ruining the story for you by giving spoilers. You get on this roller coaster of a book by opening it. The pace is set by how fast the plot starts on the first page. By page two your into the action. Yes page two. Not twenty or thirty pages of endless, useless, descriptors about clothing or houses or stage prop settings. And from there the action never really stops until the last page.

Just like a roller coaster some sections move fast and furious but thankfully there are sections that slow the action enough to catch your breath before your thrown off the edge again into another high speed plunge. And just like a roller coaster there are surprises that will shock you, twists that you didn't expect, sudden plunges into action that is unexpected only to have it slow down to give you a small chance to catch your breath.

Rarely do you find a book that has the diversity that is shown by this novel. There is action that seems unending. There is surprise comedy that will catch you by surprise making you laugh moments after holding your breath. There is some science fiction, after all we are talking sentient androids that make marvelous assassins. There is mystery, intrigue, and adventure. We all know a really wonderful book has to have drama in it as well which this novel contains.

I cant recommend this novel highly enough. Of all the books I have read this year, and I read two or three a week, this is the best I have read to date. The plot flows and is not jumpy. The changes in scenes is done so you don't get lost in the transition. The characters are full bodied and display personalities that are consistent. If you only read one book this summer it should be this one. If you dont ever read it you will be missing your chance to experience the writing of a novel written the way a story should be written.

On a final note on this novel. In comparison to the standard “novel” put out there today it is massive – truly epic in proportion. This is a complete story. Not a cliff hanger like some serial television show. It is easily twice the size of any other novel I have read this year and considering it doesn't fill page after page with useless description that have no bearing on the tale it is easily three times the size of meaningful reading.

Another mind-blowing experience from Dean C. Moore which races along faster than a hijacked spacejet, there is so much in this book that's it difficult for a simple review to do it justice. But you've got to try, right?
So we'll start with the plot, which twists and turns down a million-and-one dead ends which are never quite as dead as they might be, and uncoils into something surprisingly straightforward. That's a major plus, because with everything else that's going on in this book, you need the plot to actually take you somewhere, and it does that in spades.
The characters are great - FBI Agent Max Chase, his wife Carmen and his son Donny form a formidable and frankly terrifying family unit that fractures and reforms and fractures again, just like a normal family would. Only there's nothing normal about the Chases. And there's even less normal about their mirror-image assistants, about whom I'll say no more for fear of revealing too much.
But best of all, and following the model set by Moore's other work, is the sheer volume of STUFF in this book. New age philosophy, genetics, AI and robotics, law enforcement, a history of conspiracy, astronomy, architecture, weaponry, contemporary politics - all of this flows from the page without any of that tiresome exposition with which a lesser writer would have burdened it. Instead it's part of the plot, part of the knowledge the characters have got because without it they wouldn't be who they are, and it doesn't slow things down for a second.
There's something wonderful about getting absorbed in a story that doesn't so much invite you to suspend your disbelief as rob you of it entirely. You won't care whether ley lines are real or chi energy actually does anything any more than you'd care whether Avada Kedavra works in real life, because what Rowling did for wizards, Moore is starting to do for a hypnotic blend of science and mysticism, with quite (if you'll excuse the pun) spell-binding results.
Android Assassins is a big book, and it deserves to be, because everything in it works. Highly, highly recommended.

"We don't yet live in a police state, Clemens ...give it a couple of weeks."
Max Chase is about to be recruited into the FBI-FD (Future Division) though he doesn't know it yet. He thought he was just an observer, a witness. The recruitment tactics are somewhat unusual ...

I seriously underestimated how long it would take me to read this 560 page book of crammed, action packed, humourous, non stop imagination and ideas as Chase, his wife and son and their three android helpers attempt to save the world, or at least stay alive. it is a ginormous mind blowing enterprise and the cast includes, in no particular order, android assassins, robot paramedics, self piloting drone fighters, biotoxins, mutant dogs, let lines, futuristic weaponry, time travel, life extension, Chinese eco-terrorists, self protecting plants, megalomaniac psychopaths, genetics, space planes, atomic explosions, nuclear submarines, fishing, butterflies, volcanic eruption, tsunami, telekinesis, terrorists, zombies, Chakra energies, and even a dragon. And much, much more.

As the world explodes in dazzling scenes of devil may care visual effects, there is still time for laughter. How can one author pack so much into one (admittedly lengthy) book? Some wonderful throw away lines here and really memorable scenes - a particular favourite of mine is the ice hockey match at the end of the world, ' the game brought to the floating ice barge at the North Pole,' and, of course, the zombie apocalypse. Just try out the introductory first pages and you'll get the idea.
Definitely recommended for crazy, futuristic action officianados. But remember to give yourself plenty of time.

Max Chase of the FBI was there to witness and film a murder! He was not to intervene. They just needed it documented. The idea was that this would give leverage to the FBI over that person for future “missions”. As he watched, five assailants came at Wayne Miller, caught on film by multiple cameras, having blended into the woodwork or surroundings like pieces of furniture! Chase was getting the feeling this had all been staged and choreographed to perfection. But why?

The victim, fueled by anger, was able to overcome his attackers. But as he tended to the wound on his neck, the “bodies” began to get back on their feet like zombies! The victim released a spray mist of acid from the ceiling to dissolve their skin – yet they kept coming. Not zombies, but ANDROIDS! As Miller, the victim, backed away, he set off a fiery explosion in the house – but the androids just walked through the flames! One of them turned toward the camera and smiled at Chase, as if delighted to have pleased its master! Chase realized he had been set up!

This was a wild and crazy ride! Needless to say, the action was non-stop and the mystery of why this was all happening was compelling! Why was Chase set up? Was it the FBI doing it to one of their own? Or was there some other master plot going on that was yet to be discovered? Definitely, grab yourself a copy of this book. You won’t be sorry!

I received an ARC in return for an honest review.

I had Soooo much fun with this book.
It's RED mixed with Mr. & Mrs. Smith, by way of the Terminator, being both Shaken & Stirred as told by Donald Westlake amped up by a truckload of Monster drinks!
Chase works for a Super Secret division of the FBI that no-one has ever heard of. He's staking out the home of a guy who easily outdoes 007 in every way possible.
Only things go bad, in a sequence that has more action flowing through it than the starting intro mini-adventure from the beginning of any Bond film, leaving Chase on the run. He's now become the most wanted man in the US!
His wife, who can topple entire Governments between "Meetings" seems more than happy to help track Chase down. Especially if it will help to tone down on the amount of torture her Government kidnappers have planned for her.
And his teenaged son is equally happy to sell Dad out. Just for the fun of seeing Dad getting the crap kicked out him!
Chase's first bit of luck comes from Granny, a Hollywood "B" lis... THUNK! Excuse me, I've been reminded, he is aided by a 90+-year-old "A" list actress, who is also a serial masturbater.

This is Big with Action bursting from every page.
It's funny - at times even silly - but I couldn't leave it alone.
It's a rocket boosted roller coaster ride that's headed towards a solid block wall!
I'm looking forward to having MORE Chase in my future!

Max Chase, FBI special agent, is sent to witness a murder. He’s not to stop it, merely to film it so they have leverage on the killer. With the killer's skills the FBI is far more interested in wielding him as a weapon in their employ than imprisoning him, bu tthe setup goes wrong and the elite assassin is murdered...by 5 androids, who when done all turn toward Chase and smile, so he is marked as the mastermind. The real mastermind is going after America's heroes, the people fighting for truth, justice, and the American way, or at least what’s left of it that hasn’t been entirely engulfed by corporate-sponsored greed.

For Max it’s all a game. Literally. Because this is his initiation into the FBI-FD, the Futurist Division of the FBI. Tasked with keeping those wielding breakthrough technologies from causing an apocalypse or the next closest thing, and the department's solution is the Setup, which if he can survive the frame AND bring in the actual mastermind without being killed he can pick up his FBI-FD badge, BUT until then he won’t get one bit of help from the department. They won’t even acknowledge that he exists, which is a problem since his wife and 12 year old son are caught up in the traps.

This is one of several books by this writer, and intend to go through the ones I have and see if the other ones are on ku, which I have. Not exactly my 'genre' but enough.

So, after reading and digesting this tome, and trying to get a grip on what the heck I just read, I had to agree with Tac, a very smart Android: "...Enough conspiracies to fill ten novels, twenty by the time we through, but far too many for one movie." And he's right-this could easily turn into a whole T.V. series on it's own. Maybe that's why Chinese Androids can easily take over the world - they're smart and say the cutest things.

But what is this book about? Androids? A zombie apocalypse in Montana? Dinosaurs? Dragons? The FBI? Assassins? Most hated transnational corporations? Aliens? Car chases? Living life like a video game? Hitching a ride in a submarine? Conspiracy? Dodging lava from an erupting volcano? An elusive mastermind with an agenda? Yep. All of the above. And humor, my kind of humor: "Carmen didn't just come to a stop on a dime; she came to a stop on a one and a half penny piece from Great Britain circa 1836, the smallest coin in the world." Gotta love it!

So, your mission in all of life: read this book. Simple. After all, Tac and Donny rode a dangerous 'Pirates of the Caribbean' type-tour (without waiting in line), using ripped off arms from floating dead bodies as oars, so why can't you just read a gosh darn 500-something page book? Sounds so easy now, doesn't it?

I will be checking out more of Author Moore's stories.

Very bad ending!

I thought this was going to be a high tech spy type novel. It was not. It was good at the beginning but by the time the climax came I was so confused. There was some really lazy writing as well. One character is described as smoking a Sherlock Holmes pipe, then two sentences it's a cigar he's puffing on! There are points in the book that are so lazily written and plotted, even the characters switch so fast from scene, they ask each other how they got through an impossible escape situation,(because the entire description of the "How" was missing from the chapter), only to be informed by their android companion the ins and outs of how it all came about. Presumably, all the action took place while the humans where unconscious, ( without explanation), also not in the plot! The strategies these characters think up to save the world from a mad scientist hyphen Dr. Moreau, are all over the place, difficult to follow, confusing, overly
I've ever read. I pray this is not their day job!

What a hilarious story. I thought it was well written and all the scenes written just that one step further then usual that just made the story great. Instead of 1 android attacking, there had to be 5 for example. I loved that both Chase's wife and son were all geniuses, and when add the android family to their team, Chase the FBI profiler was the most average. I loved that the team of 6 had to work together to save the day. And that it was not just one plan running but multiple plans within plans that seemed connected yet not. I received a free copy and my honest opinion is that this was an amazing, addicting book 1 in a new great series that made me laugh and groan as the plots were re veiled. This book was full of great characters that made me have to finish the story to see how it ended. Hint - the ending was great.

I've read a few Dean C Moore books now and feel they should all begin with a starting pistol or the words "on your marks, get set, go..." fast paced isn't the half of it! Action packed from the first sentence, Moore catapults you into the near future. Big screen stunts that make the opening of James Bond films look amateur send you headlong into a fantastic narrative. At times humorous, always at a break-neck pace, the reader barely has time to catch their breath between chapters. Yet despite all that, Moore is a master of characterization - even with his cast of thousands, each one is carefully drawn and well developed. He is also a master of world building, for those who love a techie sic-fi with a well drawn futuristic society, this is something you can sink your teeth into.

This was a very difficult book for me to get into. The first half is very disjointed, jumping back and forth with no warning, and hard to follow. I actually gave up on it for a couple of days, but decided to give it another shot because it wasn't the story I didn't like, it was the way it jumped all over the place out of nowhere. Once the story solidified and quit making random jumps, it was actually a very solid, well written story. The last 40% was the best part of the entire book. The action scenes were well written and detailed without being overburdened with descriptors, and other than a few very minor spelling and grammar issues, was very enjoyable!

Most things I choose to read when I awaken in the night take about an hour's reading to ready me for sleep again. Not this writing; this is a real yawner taking a mere 10 to 15 minutes to put me to sleep. I know it's easy to critique and a skill to create so I am not looking askance at the authors industriousness. I am puzzled however by the rationale behind the author's choice to repeatedly give vent to the his/her political leaning in what masquerades as a sci-fi thriller.
I don't soon see myself reading further of these rants.

I waited to review this book until I read another book by this author. To me this book lack continuity and it did not excite me to want to read more. I still don't understand why the chapter about android hockey players was in the book. I started to stop read a third of the way through and again half way through. I just kept hoping it would get better. I know a lot of people loved this book and after reading a second book I can only conclude it is his style.
