Rowan: Woodsmen and City Girls

Rate this book

Money, consumerism, companionship... I left it all behind years ago. I didn't have to, with my looks and drive I could of had it all.
But I knew, deep down, that wasn't what I wanted. I needed fresh air in my lungs, grass under my feet and sweat running down my brow as I built my own life.
So I left, I left it all behind and built what I wanted.
But one thing was missing, something the seductively dancing fire reminded me of time and time again.
I was missing... her.

I've worked hard, damn hard, to get myself to where I am today. I make good money and use it to enjoy life to it's fullest.
When a gruff and mysterious woodsman rescued me after getting lost, I didn't expect to fall in love.
Not only with him, but with his life, his simplicity.
Is this a man, and a lifestyle, I can spend my life with?

Woodsmen and City Girls Book 1 is a full length HOT AND STEAMY standalone romance with NO CLIFFHANGER and a HEA. Rowan is a bearded, sculpted specimen of a man who falls desperately in love with the city girl he saves from the woods. Intended for 18+ audiences.

It was ok

It was ok. The speech of the girls was ridiculous, like this and like that. Wow, it wasn't a book set back in the 80's. The author depicted the H with many tattoos, and that's fine, I love me some tats, but everything was his tattooed hand, his tattooed chest, his tattooed this and his tattooed that. It's ok to say that occasionally, but constantly made me as a reader feel like the author thought I would forget. Just several annoyances like that. Oh, and the end fell FLAT! Was just really rushed and then The End!

All in all a good book. The characters took some time for me to warm up to, but eventually I did and I grew to really like them as a couple. A few minor things bothered me, but overall I enjoyed the book. I was gifted an exclusive copy.

Super steamy!

This was a super steamy read about a city girl getting lost in the woods and the hot lumberjack type of guy who rescues her. After reading this book you'll want to get lost in the woods and be rescued too!

Lucky Nina.

I enjoyed this book. Also the bonus books are great. Rowan finds Nina lost in the bush. He takes her to his cabin & looks after her. A lovely story. Thanks.

Rowan lives alone in the forest. As he stares at the fire one night, he sees the form of a woman with flaming hair dancing amidst the flames. (I think it's a setup for a nice, mystical-type love story. No.) Through his memories, we find he left a high-paying job just as he was being offered a huge promotion. He left the office on his Harley, never looking back. We don't know how long he's been living alone, but he's had time to build his cabin-house, plant a garden, etc. At one point we are told that he hasn't "spoken to another human for over a year".

Nina works at a high-paying job and loves her life in the city. She and several of her friends decide on a weekend picnic in the forest. One thing leads to another and Nina is separated from her friends and gets lost. Rowan finds her and takes her to his place.

I won't be giving away spoilers because the description of the book says, "HOT AND STEAMY" [not so much, though nice] "standalone romance with NO CLIFFHANGER and a HEA."

That being said...
Rowan was a likable character. Nina, however, was a bitch/brat. I don't know if we're to see her as a spoiled city girl or an airhead. She, like, suggests the picnic in, like, the woods, but wears Louboutin stilettos to hike to their picnic spot. Really??? I don't think city girls are, like, that stupid. The whole trip to the hiking spot she, like, snootily argues with her "friends."

God knows how far they hike into the woods (with her whining all the way), but when they stop to eat, they find Nina left the food behind in the car. She whines, but after telling her "friends," like, the only reason she even, like, invited them is, like, her mother told her to have, like, girls weekends with her, like, coworkers -- real nice -- she and her Louboutins start the hike back to the car to retrieve the meal -- yes, alone --...and she, like, gets lost...and she gets frustrated...

Rowan hears her cries and finds her. He begins the trek back to his cabin with her following -- still in her Louboutins, one of which has lost a heal by now. He keeps her from coyotes and bears. While on the trek that seems to last hours and hours she hits her head and suffers a concussion. Rowan cares for her and that's when the insta-lust/love happens. Plus, Nina becomes a different person. (Maybe it was the head injury???)

Okay... I can't say this book (novella?) was b-a-d bad, but there are things that keep it from being good. If I wasn't a person who finished what I started to read, I would have stopped reading a couple of chapters in. The Nina character just turned me off.

Also, it seemed disjointed to the point that I wondered if I'd missed things as I was reading. I backed up only to see I hadn't. Nina is a spoiled airhead, but holds a high-paying position? Some of the dialogue seemed "off" at times -- hard to explain. Then, there's Rowan falling for this bratty woman. That was somewhat believable from the point of view that he had "seen" her in the fire, so maybe he thought it was destiny, but with the way Nina acted around her friends and her initial run-ins with Rowan, I couldn't see her falling into insta-love with Rowan. There was never really a build up to their romance -- lust, yes; romance, no.

I will read future entries to this series to see if there is improvement. Again, this was okay, it just wasn't "good" for me. And, it's not one I'll read again.

Spoiler-type questions/observances. Read at your own risk...

Nina who is rich and used to the good life, gets lost in the forest. Rowan who gave up his life in the city to live in the forest finds Nina wandering the forest. Rowan takes her to his cabin where she'll be safe. Lots of things happen and Nina ends up with a concussion and has to spend time recovering. They spend a few days together and end up falling for each other. What will happen to them when Nina returns to her life in the city, or will she stay with Rowan? Although I liked the concept of this story some things just didn't do it for me. I didn't understand why Rowan left the corporate world there was no explanation given other than he didn't want a promotion. My other complaint is that after days missing Nina's car is still waiting for her and no search party is looking for her. Did no one notice she was missing? The writing was good and I enjoyed the storyline so I was troubled with a star rating for this book. I give it 3.5 stars for believability and 4 stars for storyline.
