At the end of the corridor was the ICU. Crashing through its swinging doors, I stood still for a while. Hands on my knees, I waited to catch my breath.
As I straightened up, I felt a chill run up my spine. I hoped it was simply because of the hyper–cooled AC of the ICU and not an omen of things to come….
Come, let's hide in here, tucked away quietly in the middle of a doctors' mind, and watch from up close, the heavy traffic of tiny, short-lived electrical action potentials crashing into the consciousness and changing into long-lasting memories and life-changing philosophies.
For that is where this book will take you – right into a doctor’s mind.
And watch Death from up close. And admire the pristine innocence of a child, the pride of the poor and the phoenix of Man rise from the ashes of defeat.
And watch Life from up close. And marvel at its intricate alignments and infinite hope.
Witness from up close the gladiatorial battle between raw human emotion and cold clinical logic.
Hold on tight as the pendulum swings from death to life, from defeat to victory, from despair to joy.
Come, let's watch a Bipolar Life and the many short stories that make it.
Come, let's watch it all from here.
From inside the doctor's mind.

Bipolar is a collection of short stories and anectodes telling about the life of doctors in India, the extreme happiness and despair they face as part of their life. It starts with the life in medical college, and the describes the hectic life of a doctor, who has very less free time due to the coursework. Though the doctors are supposed to save lives, their extreme busy and stressful schedule in medical college as students, interns, leads to addictions and other health problems, due to which the doctors often die a premature death. It also describes the way doctors handle death, illness of their close family members in particular, how it affects them professionally. Highly recommeded for those interested in studying medicine and dealing with doctors in any way.

Bipolar made me keep dictionary handy while reading it due to medical jargons used by the author. This book does not have story, it's memoirs of author divided in chapters starting from his start of medical career. He has elobarated those which have been attached to his memory. The best ones were the chapter no religion and life cheated. Person with medical knowledge can read this book with ease but a common man would find it rather difficult to read. Overall this is a ok Goodread... 😊

.

The simplicity of the book really got me started and thereby just could not keep it down till the end. It was the last chapter which left a lump. Kudos to Dr Kumar. Every doctors family should read it to understand the doctor in the family
