Thoughtful book. I was a little concerned about some of the people was quoting at the beginning. I thought I knew what the author was going for in those quotes, but I wasn't sure if that's what those people he was quoting exactly meant given what I know about their teaching. However, despite the bumpy start the beginning, I was put at ease by the rest. Lots of interesting reveals as far as how the story would likely have played to the original audience. (The book is at its strongest as it brings in cultural expectations and conventions that were broken not only by the father but also by the eldest son.) By the last few chapters, I thought we had maybe scraped the meaning of the prodigal parable a little much. But overall I enjoyed it.

Very interesting book. The author takes The gospel of Luke; the three parables, but mainly the prodigal son and breaks down the chapters. I found this helpful to me as I do not know the Bible very well and the author helped me understand what the Bible was saying. Well worth reading if one is interested in finding out what the Bible is saying.

I always loved the parable of the lost boy. How he saddened his inheritance and was left with working as a pig farm, which had to be a blow to him, because where I read at the Jesus told us. His name was legion.
The symbolise of the father going to the boy he is running, much like our Father is going to run out to us and have a banquet.
