The Unexpected Affair

Rate this book
Love doesn’t fit any preconceived guidelinesDetermined to avoid relationships that will only end in painful breakups, Whitney Talbot makes a checklist of everything she wants in a life partner. Construction worker Lane Martin possesses a few of these traits—especially the tall, dark and devastatingly attractive part. But Lane has unavoidable baggage… He’s divorced, with a teenage son. So why is Whitney still fantasizing about taking their mutual infatuation to the next level? It takes an accidental encounter at a new condo development to open Lane’s eyes to the possibility of second chances. On a trip to Whitney’s family’s B and B in the Bahamas, their friendship transforms into something richer and much deeper. If only the beautiful kindergarten teacher and aspiring songwriter didn’t have such firm ideas about what makes the perfect husband. Now Lane could lose her to another man…unless Whitney opens her heart to the one thing she left off her list—love.

You cannot make a list for love

The story hit the spot for me this 2017 Labor Day. As I see the controversy as a result of Whitney and hers girls Man Menu, it shows how certain good intentions blow your overall blessings.

Lane and Whitney are that couple that one paper one may not thinks match but once you peel off the layers you see they are just what the other needs.

My favorite parts of the storyline were the interaction between Lane and the Talbot family, as well as, Whitney's interaction with Lane's family. For me you can tell a lot about a person via their relationship with their families. Lane nor Whitney put on any faces when interacting with family. It was then that I knew the relationship would surpass their insecurities.

I will say two things that I had pause with, the ability for Whitney to accept Lance invitation to Galveston. It was a naivete that I didn't think she possessed and yet that is what screamed out. The second was Lane's reaction to Melvin and the scene at Max's.

Love doesn’t fit any preconceived guidelines or ‘Man Menu’… Determined to avoid relationships that will only end in painful breakups, (schoolteacher/songstress) Whitney Talbot makes a checklist of everything she wants in a life partner. (Construction worker) Lane Martin possesses a few of these traits—especially the tall, dark and devastatingly attractive part. But Lane has unavoidable baggage… He’s divorced, with a teenage son. So why is Whitney still fantasizing about taking their mutual infatuation to the next level? It takes an accidental encounter at a new home development to open Lane’s eyes to the possibility of second chances. On a trip to Whitney’s family’s B and B in the Bahamas to celebrate her brother reuniting with his wife, their friendship transforms into something richer and much deeper. If only the beautiful kindergarten teacher and aspiring songwriter didn’t have such firm ideas about what makes the perfect husband. Now Lane could lose her to another man…unless Whitney opens her heart to the things she left off her list, trust—love.

Loved it!!! 😍❤

Lane and Whit are the most stubbornness people, I've ever read about. They both wanted each other and found ways to make it seem like they didn't! But it was obviously they did, Kenya let her friends ruined her relationship as well as that Men Menu. I'm glad Lane was the one for her and they were able to work out their differences. This book was definitely a five star read. I'll most def recommend it to others.

Whitney thinks that a man list (made in college) is the way to find a man. Lane is a construction worker, divorced and has a teenage son - none of these things earn him points on Whitney's list.
It's when she takes him home to the Bahamas with her that she realizes that the thing not on her list is Love.

While in College, Whitney and her friends make a man list. Whitney is the only single one, and she's still keeping that list, until she meets construction worker Lane Martin, who has several marks against him according to the list, including being divorced and a dad. You would think Whitney would ignore her feelings since he's not "right" according to her list. Good story.
