Who doesn't want to be more happy? I mean isn't that your true life's goal...to have more moments of happiness in them? I found this book to be extremely interesting with some cool concepts I'll be incorporating into my life. Sure I didn't agree with absolutely everything in the book but there are some great tips and resources mentioned for how to turn down all the bullshit that is happening in your life and spend much more time being truly happy.
The two things in your mind that your brain compares to create every emotion you have are (1) your Expectation/Preference about [something], and (2) your Perception about that same [something]...
The severity of any emotion you experience is determined by the importance of the Expectation/Preference, and seriousness of Perception, combined.

Sean Webb puts together some real life stories mixed in with some science and stirred with a spoon of understanding and empathy to really touch on why some things upset you while others don't and how you can really start to work on being more aware of what is happening inside of your head so you can spend much more time on the positive emotions of life.

I think there is a little bit of something in this for everyone. My husband and I listened to a lot of the audiobook together when we went on a road trip and discussed some of the topics after each chapter. Each of us were able to identify with parts of the book in different ways and our takes on each of the concepts.

Your brain is an every growing muscle if you work it. Just like exercise is good for the body, mental awareness or working your mind through mental exercise, meta awareness, meditation etc all help it grow and stay active. I really like this as I feel smarter and like my mental awareness grows more everyday as I get older.

Sean explained emotions and how emotional IQ works in various situations along with how to really let go of some of the baggage you are dragging around. Both my husband and I really liked the concept of moments in this book and time (past, present, future). We loved how Sean explained negative emotions you are holding onto from your past. In a small snippet he says
Whenever you think about past negative events, whether they happened five minutes, five hours, or five years ago, you’re taking up a present moment by recalling a moment that is now gone. It’s in the past. You’re stealing a present moment to think about some other moment and reintroduce some past Perception. This Perception then runs through your Equation of Emotion again, thereby creating negative reactions in your present moment from things that happened in the past. In doing this, you’re basically allowing a past moment to ruin this moment. And sometimes you do this over and over again, ruining numerous present moments with negative Perceptions about moments that no longer exist.

Since it is January and people are found of making resolutions this time of year, the hubs and I are going to work on some of the ideas generated from this book. We are incorporating multiple concepts. I really like meta awareness and becoming better at it along with understanding what is on my 'self map' and how that is dictating my reactions to things around me. It has been fun. We also started meditating at least 10 min a day to start off with for mental exercise and help our mind declutter some stuff.

Sean wrote a very interesting book that I think could really help make your life better if you are willing to be patient, work on the concepts and really understand who you and who those around you are.

Highly recommend. Easy and fun read based in science. This is not a think positive type of book. It actually helps you figure it out why your brain does what it does. I personally received instant relief from some obsessive thought patterns and some reactive responses I was having around other people. Now I understand why something upsets me and recognizing it does help. Communication with others has been easier feeling like I understand more how someone’s mind may be working helps me have more compassion for their situation. The book ends with more than a few easy mind hacks and some deep mind hacks. It’s not a quick fix you still have some work and practice to do. I am also started the free class on YT and then moving on to volume 2.

Look, I’m not sure this is the be-all, end-all book that finally leads to clutching elusive happiness. However, it is a quick and easy read that provides, at the very least, A LOT to think about. Sean mentions many other sources to look into, which is always valuable. Clearly, he has figured out something that works. If you’re at all looking to maximize happiness in your life without all of that over-promise, under-deliver that is common in self-help books, give this one a shot first. You get a bit of neuroscience, ancient wisdom, and practical tips to help you tame the parts of your mind that are an unhappiness engine. Definitely worth a read or two.

A very interesting perspective, presented in a conversational way, with a great balance of woo-woo, science, and personal stories that help you understand how the brain works, why it reacts the way it does, and how to gain more control over your emotions to help you lead a happier life.

This is the first book in the series; the second book picks up right where this one leaves off and takes the training to the next level.

This book left me feeling light and on top of the world. It’s much more than “mind hacking happiness”, it gives you a newfound clarity in life.

I went from feeling overwhelmed and confused in my day to day life to now understanding why my brain works the way it does.

Everyone in the world should be required to read this as it would make the world a better, more compassionate place.

I love deepening my emotional intelligence and this book really helped with that.

Very easy to read.
Uses common language and laymen’s terms to describe very complex topics.
Good read, good lessons, and very systematic structure.
I enjoyed the personal stories from the author through the chapters.
Not five stars just because it didn’t leave me with profound or enlightening thoughts.
But it was definitely dope tho. 👍

An Amazing Set of Tools

I’ve been intermittently studying happiness since college and loved seeing the way this book connected to things I’ve learned in the past as well as providing useful tools and new insights. As an educator, I look forward to the ways I can utilize what I have learned as well as share with those around me.

First I saw him on tik tok, I did the audible version and this fella is just very interesting and it falls into researched antidotes that are kind and relatable. It isn't all a rosy posey life and I like this so much!

Will get the next book.

He solidly makes me think, and want to do a float tank!

A straightforward and accessible guide to improving your mental well-being. The book provides practical tips and techniques that are easy to implement.
I'm sorry, but the author's comedic style seemed too much at times and wasn't too my taste, but the core message of the book remains strong.
