I have it all. Money. Fame. Women But now – I only want her.
As a star linebacker, I’ve had my share of fun. Girls throw themselves at me and until now I’ve been happy to let them.
Until I met her…
Tammy Rose. She’s gorgeous. She doesn’t know it. She gets my jeans bulging and my head spinning. And the best part? She has no idea who I am.
It’s hard for a guy in my position to find a girl I can trust. A girl I could make mine forever – and until now I’d given up on the idea. But after the night we spent together, I knew she was the one.
But I screwed up. I made a mistake and I don’t know if I can make it right. It’s been two years… Two years since I felt her, smelled her, looked into those gorgeous eyes. But now I’m back, and I’m not letting her go. Not this time – not when she’s the mother of my child.
The Longest Game is a stand alone instalove romance with no cheating, no cliffhanger, and of course – a HEA, and plenty of steam to keep your Kindles hot! Disclaimer: not responsible for undergarments that need replacing ;)
Again, just another mindless read for the weekend where not a great deal of thinking is involved.
I didn't enjoy this one as well as I did the previous one from the author, Coming off the Bench. I found the heroine a bit annoying. For reasons unknown to her, the hero took off after they slept together (the first day they met), she got pregnant, he shows back up, she's mad at him and when he comes to her apartment to explain to her what happened, he immediately kisses her and the two of them go out like mad. It's like she lost all her brain cells when the hero is near. (Seems like most of her heroines do, but this one was definitely more so.)
Anyway, it is a quick read but not as enjoyable as the others I've read of her books.
I've noticed that the author is pretty formulaic in the thoughts of the hero, the heroine and the c*ck size of her heroes. Apparently the men are huge, author uses the term as large as the females "forearm", (um ok), the hero wondering if the h is shaved downtown. Those are the main points I recall. Legit in every book it's the same theme.
Oh and this one was a bit different to the others re:
I have problems with characters, and story. But first and foremost, if you are going to write about a sport do your research!!!!!! No starting NFL player takes off 2 months from the season for the death of a parent!!! Not going to happen!!!! Too many unrealistic things happening for this story to be credible.
Needs editing, badly. The characters also could use a bit more development rather than falling instantly in love and instantly into bed. The "simple folk" aspect drove me bananas, and I'm not sure what the author was trying to get out of that, but they ended up sounding and acting more like country bumpkins than southerners.
The story was good. A typical sport romance with a twist. A secret baby a little drama everything in moderation. Two things though: #1 I hate bad editing. Beta readers are there to catch things like mixing women's names. #2 (and this is all on me) I really don't like reading "cum" instead "come". I know there's no difference between the two it's just a quirk on mine.
I’m on a run of cute books that I read through quickly. I like them, I like the characters, and they give me some nice feels. The Longest Game by Autumn Avery is another book that falls into this category for me. It is good. It is fun to read, and it makes me mentally note the author for the future.
I like sports theme books. I like when the cocky jock gets hung up on a girl, and she wins his heart. I like the unplanned baby. The Longest Game has some of these qualities; it is a sweet story, and it uses the typical romance tropes in a typical romance way. Don’t get me wrong that isn’t a bad thing; the old tropes are still used because they work. This is a good romance novel with real characters that I enjoy reading it.
What I like:
Tammy Rose--The main character. I like her strength, her ability to love the people close to her, she takes responsibility for her actions and doesn’t blame anyone else. These are qualities I like in female characters. Tammy changes her long-term plans because her mother is fighting cancer and needs her close. Instead of going to college Tammy takes a job at the local diner to be available when her mother needs her. Her boyfriend who she thought she has a future with decides that he wants to try again with his ex. Now it is time for her to live again and what is better than to accept an invitation from a local football hero.
Derek—At first, I’m on the fence about him. He seems like a good guy. He protects Tammy from a jerk who is harassing her. There is instant-lust-love on his part for Tammy that is returned. His inner dialog convinces the reader that he feels something special for Tammy although he does have baggage from an ex. Then Derek makes a dumb jock move that makes me hate him for a time. I know it sounds crazy, but I like the character even though he burns me up.
Georgina- is an enviable “best friend” character. She inspires and stands by Tammy. In the beginning, she urges Tammy to get a life and have a little fun. After Tammy’s life changes again, she helps Tammy protect her heart. She is often the voice of reason for Tammy to bounce off her frustrations.
The basic storyline is a good one. I like the jerk who doesn’t know he is a father and then comes back onto the scene again.
What I didn’t like:
I didn’t buy the reason for the long disappearance. This would work in the sixties or seventies but my goodness Derek is a big football star. He makes a lot of money. If he really wants to make contact, he could hire a private detective…do a Google search…something. It doesn’t work. Are you telling me in the off-season Derek couldn’t find any time to look for the girl that is so special to him?
It doesn’t wash that he couldn’t get information from the people at the diner. I see sports celebrities talk people into giving them information all the time. Fans will give anything up to touch celebrities’ lives even if it is only for a second. A little more research on the plausibility of a scenario would help. There is an attempt to explain his actions because of an emotional upheaval, but it didn’t click completely for me. I’m sure the extra time is to give the baby time to age, however, for me, a shorter separation would work better.
Overall, I like the story, and willing do a little eye roll and hand wave to get over the part that doesn’t feel right. The couple has chemistry and the ending is satisfactory. I will continue to look for books by Autumn Avery in the future. She is a good writer.
I enjoyed the latest from Autumn Avery. When Tammy Rose and Derek cross paths for the first time both of their lives will be forever changed, but neither know the extent of it just yet. Tammy works as a waitress at a diner and is in the process of being accosted by a drunk guy when the hottest guy steps in to save her, that guy being none other than Derek O'Toole, the star lineman from the Ohio Bulls. Derek is used to the instant gratification that comes from being who he is, but Tammy makes him work for it. One night of incredible is all they have when life forces them in different directions and it takes two years and a bunch of misunderstandings for them to find their way back together and getting the happy ending they both want to find with the other. Derek starts off as foot in mouth and cocky, but quickly wants to change in order to be what Tammy deserves and Tammy is the opposite of gold digger that Derek deserves as well. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. I really enjoyed this book. I found Tammy and Derek to be great characters even if they seem to have a communication issue for a little time. Tammy is a young lady who drops her plans of going to college so that she can be able to take care of her mother who is undergoing treatment for her cancer. Derek is a star football player who comes into the diner Tammy works at. He comes to her rescue when she is dealing with an unruly customer. She has know idea who he is. He actually likes that. He asks Tammy out. Sparks fly from the beginning. Everything is going great for them. Until outside circumstances happen and Tammy leads Derek to believe she wants to end things. There is a length of time that they are apart. I would have liked to have seen the time apart be less. They do get back together and realize they are meant to be and love one another. I rally loved this story and the HEA. Can not wait for another wonderful read from Ms Avery.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book Wow, from the first moment Linebacker Derek O'Toole saw Tammy Rose, he knew she had to be his. She wasn't like any other woman. She was warm, caring and she just had to be his. Tammy was working late, was hot, tired and just wanted to get home , so didn't need drunken men hitting on her. Meeting Derek was an godsend even though he was cocky and good looking. Going home with him would be a decision she would regret but not for obvious reasons. It makes you wonder how life or fate could be so cruel to them both. Tammy was left with a little bundle and Derek had to deal with family dramas. A brilliant story that keeps you gripped from page one and just as fate seems kinder.....well there you go, a crazy ex steps in. A beautiful story, loved it.
While I enjoyed this book, I didn’t get any of those emotional feels for this book that I love getting. It was an enjoyable read, but it just fell a little flat for me. I liked reading about how Derek and Tammy met. I enjoyed getting to know them. Derek was a professional football player who loved to party and Tammy was a waitress at a roadside diner just trying to make ends meet. They meet one night while Tammy is working and Derek takes an interest in her, inviting her to a party at his place. They spend an incredible night together and the next day she wakes up alone. Years later they meet again and Tammy isn't happy about seeing him. Where had he been, did he even care? I enjoy books by this author but for some reason this book didn't hold my interest. I still think she did a great job writing it though.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. The Longest Game is another great story very well written by Autumn Avery. It's a stand alone sports romance with no cheating, no cliffhanger, and of course an awesome and happy ever after. The main characters are Tammy Rose and Derek O'Toole. Tammy Rose and Derek cross paths for the first time when she's working at the Northbend Diner as a waitress and Derek the star lineman from the Ohio Bulls helps her from being bully by a rude customer. Derek ask Tammy out on date, the chemistry between this two are breathtaking red-hot. One incredible night, lots of misunderstandings force them apart for two years. They reconnect and...... GO BUY THE BOOK!!!! I highly recommend reading it if you love to read secret baby sports romances!!I was hooked from the beginning!!
Dude, honestly... I get it, life gets in the way, and you're busy for a while. But that's the key word, a WHILE. 2 years of nothing, nothing! You want me to believe he was dealing with his father's properties and whatnot for that long, and in between those 700+ days he couldn't, not one single day, grab a phone and call?
Make all the excuses you want boy, but if that had been me, I wouldn't have allowed him to 'pass go' and collect his money.
And the sex scenes. God, the awful sex scenes. It wasn't enough with rolling my eyes and skipping the pages. It's like... it felt so tacky, that it left a bad taste in my mouth. Even as I write this, I'm making that expression. You know the one? The one of disgust. "Tammy I want another baby with you" "We might have just made one" Seriously, who TALKS like that!!!!!!!!
I have mixed feelings for this book. I liked Tammy Rose and Derek, but then I didn't as well. I felt like Derek saved her from that jerk and then treated her similarly. I think Tammy was quite dumb for not using protection with Derek twice. That kind of makes me cringe. I get it was needed for the story but she foolishly does it again even with their history. I understand the gaps in time but I cannot wrap my head around a big, rich, famous football player not being able to locate her. He clearly did not try hard enough. I felt that they had a lot of miscommunication and the added troubles with his ex just made me want to bang my head on the table. Overall, it was a good read and I liked the way it ended.
Tammy Rose is a waitress trying to take care of her sick mother. Dealing one night with a handsy, obnoxious customer, another customer speaks up for her. It is Derek, the Star Linebacker of the Ohio Bulls. Also the most gorgeous guy Tammy had ever laid eyes on. One thing leads to another, a mutually acceptable passionate night occurs. Then life happens, assumptions are raised, feelings are hurt, anger sets in. It is two years before Tammy & Derek find each other again. Their story has its share of challenges, including misunderstandings and an ex wife's interference. Delightful experience watching how they work through all the problems. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. Four stars.
"I am voluntarily reviewing an advanced copy of this manuscript" Any athlete/alpha male/secret baby/romance lover who thrives on happy endings will adore this book!!!! Interesting, with a very high sexy factor and adorable characters, this emotional rollercoaster filled with testosterone but funny and witty at times is a sweet read!!! Autumn Avery goes a bit wilder in this one and gives us Dereck! The ultimate alpha male who takes what he wants and who in certain scenes can be a little "too much" for certain readers, but please take it with a grain of salt and remind yourself the context of their relationship... That been said, i really enjoyed Dereck and Tammy's story!!! Red hot, enthralling and passionate it will keep you on your toes!!! Two Thumbs Up High In The Air!!!!!
3.5 Stars This sport romance starts out strong with Derek the famous football star coming to Tammy Rose defense when she is being maul by another customer at the diner she works at. After the best night of her life Tammy wakes up to an empty bed and with a baby on the way.
The story fast forwards 2 years before it picks back up. I did not care for the long separation and instant reconnect. The sex scenes were well written though a little unbelievable. They had a lot of issues to work thru before they can reach their HEA.
I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy provided by the author.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. I really enjoyed reading this book, as I have all books I've read by this author. Loved the characters and the storyline. Derek and Tammy were a perfect match even though it took them awhile to figure it out. I was hooked from the beginning and was sad that it had to end. Even though this is a sports romance, it's not heavy with sports references, which left more for the development of their actual relationship. I would highly recommend reading it!!
I voluntarily received an ARC for a honest review.
Tammy Rose is a waitress at a diner where she is saved by the one and only famous linebacker Derek O'Toole when she is being harassed by a rude customer. Little did she know that her night was gonna get better.
Derek O'Toole is the sexy linebacker who has no problems getting women. Once he laid eyes on Tammy he was hooked. Now will he be able to get his hooks on sassy Tammy??
During this journey Derek is dealt with something difficult in his life that keeps him away from Tammy. Will he find his way back to her?
Derek comes across as a total womanizer, and I have to say I did not like him at all in the beginning. Tammy is just your typical ordinary girl, that life keeps throwing her curveballs. She so deserved to find happiness. This book is very emotional with twists and turns. You will literally be sitting on the edge of your seat the whole time. If you are looking for a book that will have your attention from page one, and will have you panting then look no further. I highly recommend this book.
I volunteered to read an Advanced Readers Copy of this book
Derek is a cocky linebacker for the Ohio Bulls, and Tammy is a waitress in a diner. When Derek invites Tammy to a party at his house, she is apprehensive. After a one night stand, they go their separate ways; but there are unexpected results. No spoilers, you absolutely need to read this for yourself, you will not be disappointed. This is a well written and fun read, and hats off to this talented author. I was hooked and enthralled from the very beginning. Cannot wait to read more of this author’s work. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book!
I loved this story. Derek and Tammy are very likable characters that you really care about. They have an instant connection from the moment they meet and it's not just sexual attraction or chemistry, although they have that in spades. (The love scenes are smoking hot!) Derek knows instinctively that he has found the person he is meant to be with and Tammy knows that too, although circumstances lead her to think otherwise. Their romance is sexy and sweet and touching, even with it's ups and downs.
I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
This is a quick sports romance read. It's the story of Tammy Rose and Derek, they meet at her place of work where he steps in to protect her against a handsy and rude customer. They experience instalove, but miscommunication keeps them separated for a couple of years. When Derek locates her again he discovers that their time together had consequences. What ensues is their journey towards a second chance at love.
"I Voluntarily Received and Reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy"
This is charmingly sad story. Derek is captivating, he's a jerk, but he has enough good guy charisma to make him likable. Tammy is sweet and strong. The night they met was amusing, the circumstances that followed were not. The storyline and characters are interesting and the story enjoyable. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This is my voluntary and honest opinion of it.
Football star Derek meets and falls for ordinary girl Tammy. They very quickly fall into bed and then two years go by before they reconnect. Meanwhile, Tammy had Derek’s baby and never told him. I thought it was pretty unrealistic how he just happened to run into her again after 2 years when all he knew was where she worked and she changed jobs in that time. It was an ok book… typical sports star meets girl next door type. It was a quick and easy read.
This book was just okay. I was hoping for something a little more & even though the book took over 2 yrs time for the story it just felt rushed all the time. The characters felt like they were rushed together & their first meeting was somehow sweet but nasty at the same time. But what set me off the most was the excuses used for the time spent apart. I’m not completely sure why the author thought that it would fly & this made the female character seem wishy washy.
If you're a fan of secret baby sports romance stories, then you will enjoy The Longest Game by Autumn Avery. With plenty of steam, instant lust, misunderstandings, heartbreak, characters that become real, an intriguing and interesting storyline, love and a HEA, you'll be turning the pages to see how the story unfolds.
I volunteered to review an advanced readers copy of this book.
3 1/2* Tammy meets Derek when he & his friends visit the diner she's working at. Derek rescued Tammy from a customer groping her & invites her to a party things get hot quick. The next morning she wakes to an empty bed & no explanation or note just a roll of money. Fast forward 2 years and they meet again! I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book Lovely story
I enjoyed Tammy & Derek's story. Second chance romances are one of my favourite tropes, and this book did not disappoint. Though Tammy & Derek's drama could've been easily solved with some straightforward communication, the story is light and enjoyable.
I voluntarily read & reviewed an ARC of this book.
I can't believe I actually managed to complete this book. What I thought was going to be a really well written sports figure/secret baby/second chance romance book...ended up being a huge letdown. It was so disappointing on so many levels. This is one you're going to need to read and make your decision about it. After all, it does represent an author's blood, sweat, and tears...
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy, The chemistry between Derek and Tammy is there for the start, a sweet story so fi you want to no it they get a HEA your going to have to grab a copy out you can pre-order it now.
This is a quick and easy read. A fun story but nothing special. I still want to know if he slept with other women while apart. And the ex wife thrown in was boring and knew it was coming. Should have used the stripper/stalker instead.
