Wild Minds #3

Bad Rules

Rate this book
Feminist and all around world’s greatest best friend, Lily Philips-Thomas has a rule for everything.

Rule One

No matter how many proposals you receive (seventeen to be exact) don’t ever get married. Marriage is a tool of the patriarchy.

Rule Two

Speaking of the patriarchy, don’t fall in love with an alpha a-hole rock star that believes the sun rises and sets with him. This will only lead to heartache.

Rule Three

Let’s say the alpha a-hole does break your heart. Do not ever forgive him. God could be a woman but the devil is most certainly a man.

Rule Four

Chicks before d*cks. Never let your best friend down even if it means coming face to face with the alpha a-hole who broke your heart and wants you back.

Charlotte West writes romance about strong heroines and the sexy alpha males who love them. She lives in Washington state with her husband and very large dog (think miniature pony size). She spends way too much money on books, and way too much time reading. When she’s not reading, she’s feeding her reality television addiction, eating chocolate, or traveling. She's been known to eat her weight in Girl Scout cookies.

She has a degree in Science and a Master's in Education, neither of which she is currently using but is still paying for. Occasionally, she moonlights as a YA author.

I liked the idea of the book: strong independent heroine, who didn’t give in easily and made a man work for it. Amazing idea, the execution wasn’t what I expected it to be.

Feminist heroine. Cool.
I won’t go deeper and write my philosophical thoughts about feminism in general; but in my opinion a feminist is a woman, who doesn’t only use the line ‘I’m a feminist, as a feminist, etc’ in every second sentence, but the one, who acts like one.
Feminists are not women, who hate men and don’t wear bras, coz due to this statement I’m not a feminist -> I love my bras *lol* And in 2018 (as also 10-10-30 years ago) many feminists do get marry and have kids. It just takes a really strong man, who respects a strong woman.
and not a cartoon alpha-hole, who uses weak women to pimp his supposed manhood

The heroine’s behavior was slightly contradictable sometimes: on the one hand she abhors slut-shaming and support women in all their beginnings, on the other hand she makes fun of a girl with big chest. She is all for mutual respect and being independent, but she forgives the male protagonist all his rude and insulting comments.
Despite all this she was still an ok heroine; definitely better than the average in CR.

I guess my main problem was the piece of brooding male protagonist, who should have kept his mouth shut, all book long! Damn, the things he said sometimes… la-la-la.
He had abusive tendencies and strong alcohol problem. I like my booze and I would never bash someone for liking to drink, but he overdid, man, he overdid just fine. And no one cared actually, till almost the end, when they decided to send him to rehab all of a sudden. Huh? I mean good for him and he won his battle, but I definitely missed the ‘prelude’…

I debated with my self to click 2 or 3, coz the book is safe: both were celibate during their 3-years separation, but I can’t shake off the feeling, that the overall message what I wanted to hear wasn’t very clear. Anyway, the book was still much better for me than countless CRs I read.

Strong, self-confident women in 2018 are not just feminists – they are just strong, independent women with self-worth and dignity. Don’t use ‘labels’, just love and respect yourself.

Note for myself: if there are books about 2 remaining band-members, don’t read it. Both were abhorrent manwhores, who shared women.
Nope. Not in this lifetime.

I think I’ve read this before, so I just skim read it and it’s pretty good. Fuck buddies to lovers, to second chance romance.

Some problematic things, but all in all enjoyable. Wish the series had continued.

So, after reading book 1 in this series, Good lies, where I have cast my attention to the secondary characters Asher and Lily, a twin brother to the main character Warren in book 1 and a bestie to the main heroine in the before mentioned book.

Yeah, they gave a hard wibe of "enemies to lovers" full blown fireworks going on for them and I wasn't disappointed by their mishiefs, banter, bickering - all that was a result of the unsolved and unspoken issues, that were filled with hurtful memories of the past which they never got to resolve until almost 4 years later - again cause of the bad case of "NOT TALKING SHIT THROUGH", bad case of insecurities too...

throw the hawt sex into the mix and voila - fireworks all the way...

and yet it can't be finished until they get their shit together...

until they face up with they own issues and inner fears and accept the fact that they can't feel whole unless they learn to love themselves first.

and only then, they can fight for the love they have for each other.

so, yeah, this one was good...

The Wild Minds series has been a positively addictive reading experience for me, and Bad Rules was no exception. Ms. West hits hard with intensity, sexiness, and some emotional punches that I did not see coming, and I just gobbled this book up like the addict I am.

Lily and Asher are enemies with benefits. Their relationship is volatile, passionate, and hot as sin. It was also a little hard for me to connect with sometimes, especially in the flashbacks. Here we have two emotionally closed off people trying to learn to love each other, but I couldn't always get past their tough outer shells. I definitely connected with them more in the "present" parts of their story, but I feel like I'm missing that rich extra layer of loving who they were before they became who they are.

That said, who they are turned out to be pretty darn special. There were moments I felt it like a punch to the gut. There were moments that had me sitting with my jaw dropping hoping Ms. West didn't really write those words I'd just read (internally screaming Fix this! Fix. it. now!). Then there were moments that completely filled my heart up. The soft underbellies on these two aren't very soft, but the way they adjusted them to let each other in was a treat to read. Lily and Asher are perfectly unique and perfect for each other.

In all, this was perhaps not my favorite of the series so far, but there was still a lot of amazingness tucked into these pages, and I was glued to it from start to finish. And Lord, but if I don't get a Lix book - or dear God, a Kelly the Scot book - I'm going to be inconsolable. That is, the secondary characters were sometimes scene-stealers and this whole rough and rowdy group still rules over my heart.

If you're no stranger to the Wild Minds series, you will not be disappointed by the newest sexy and emotional offering. And if it's your first rodeo? Hang on to your feels, cuz Charlotte West is gunning for them. ~ Shelly, 4 Stars

***

Charlotte West has been a unicorn author for me as the Wild Minds series has been an exceptional ride! It was sexy, intense, compelling and filled with characters that feel like family. I have been waiting for Lily and Ash's book since day one as there has always been a sense of mystery surrounding them and their relationship and the consequent break up. And after reading it, it was definitely a great addition to the series!

I devoured this book and while it wasn't my favorite of the series, it was amazing being able to revisit the Wild Minds characters. I felt like Ash and Lily were sexy and intense and yet so volatile. It almost felt like they were two chemicals which almost always caused some type of chemical reaction upon impact. I think that was the source of my issue. They almost always seemed to be at each other's throats. Don't get me wrong, I am kind of infamous for loving the enemies to lovers trope. The meaner (the hero) the better. But there is always that softening on the couple's part that hits me in the feels. I didn't see that much in this case. Or even worse, Lily and Ash would show their vulnerabilities and then go back to lashing out at one another. It was borderline exhausting.

Please don't get me wrong. This author and her writing chops can outshine alot of veteran writers in my opinion as I am always lost in her passion and words. But in this case, I didn't love Ash and Lily as much as I loved Warren and Addy and Daisy and Billy. All in all, this was a great read and I look forward to more from this author in the future. 4 stars! ~Ratula

When they first met, the attraction and lust between Lily Philips-Thomas and Asher Price was instant. They couldn't get enough of each other. But they were both looking for something different.
Four years later, they're reunited and the spark is still there. But can they overcome their pasts?

I loved Bad Rules! I've been waiting for Lily and Asher's book for a long time and their story took me in an unforgettable rollercoaster ride of emotions. There's drama, laughter, and sexy scenes. But it's also a very deep book, dealing with a lot of serious issues.
I loved the then and now chapters showing how Asher and Lily's relationship developed.

Lily is a fierce, strong, smart, and sassy woman. She knows what she wants and isn't afraid to say what's on her mind. But she's also scarred by her parents’ negligence and she's afraid of letting people in. I loved how she always stood her ground, even though sometimes she made me really mad at her.
Asher is your typical bad boy rock star. He's hot and sexy, but he's a great heart. He falls deep for Lily but believes he isn't enough for her. So he ends up screwing things up between them. Although he shows the world he doesn't care about anything, he's very smart and artistic and cares about his friends and family.

Charlotte West did a phenomenal job with Lily and Asher's story. Bad Rules made me laugh, cry and scream. I loved these broken characters and their ups and downs. I can't wait to read more about the Wild Minds!

I think I may love Ash more than Warren now. Lily and Ash were great together. Sexy, smart, hysterical.... I absolutely loved them.

Charlotte West has some serious mad writing skills to boot! Her style is phenomenal. As a reader, I feel her writing is an indulgent treat because it's not something you find everyday.

I love this series.

I love these characters.

I love Charlotte West's writing.

I'm really hoping we get Lix's story next. He's absolutely hilarious.

Starting a book with your advertised as feminist main character thinking about how much she wanted to be owned by the love interest is fully bewildering.

Also the fact that the mcs exchange two cliches a piece each as far as conversations go (that you can tell the book thinks are deep thoughts), and then boom, they can’t keep their hands off each other. I’m supposed to buy into this explosive, out of control chemistry that is based on like two totally non-descript sentences exchanged.

While they are going at it in a club bathroom, the feminist lead is thinking all about how this manly alpha man cannot be stopped because he is just SUCH an alpha, he’ll ALWAYS get what he wants (her), also how hot and intimate it is that he seems to want to “tame her restless spirit”. #feminism. So weird.

I cant decide if the author was projecting the heroine as a feminist or making fun of feminism indirectly :D. Since its not dual POV its not easy to comment on the hero much. Also in the end its kinda sad and contradicting that the hero takes up the last name of heroine to honour her feminist views but that last name belongs to her parents who have completely abandoned her from the beginning!

I was fortunate to Beta Read this third book in the Wild Minds series.

I am so in love with this series and these characters and to be able to read this book before anyone else was such an honor.

This was Lily and Asher's book and it was a heart wrenching. The push and the pull just brought out all the feels.

Lily and Asher's story actually began the same time that War and Addison's began and also ended at the same time as well.

Bad Rules jumps from past to present in order to give the history\back story from both Lily and Asher's perspective.

When Lily and Asher finally come face to face once again because Lily's best friend Addison needs her, it's light meet fuse.

-Asher Price was my Achilles' heel. Once upon a time he brought out the best in me. Now I was the worst version of myself around him. Petty and blood thirsty. He pushed and I pushed harder. Some day one of us would go to far. - Lily

It's an emotional journey and Charlotte West does a beautiful job at tugging at your heart strings...

"I love you Lily. If I were a smarter man, I might walk away knowing you can't give me the same. But fuck, I can't. You got chains on me. That's why I'm asking you to cut me loose. You gotta tell me to fuck off once and for all." -Asher

I am so excited about this series! And I just can't get enough!! I cannot wait for Book 4!

From the very first book in this Series, I have had a love affair with Ms West's writing style, characters and wit and this one sure delivers. Lily joins the ranks of my very few book girl friends, from the first paragraph her snark is on full display, with some hilarious one-liners throughout. Asher is a mess, brooding Guitar God with a serious problem. I would have liked more insight as to why Ash had issues, but it doesn't take away from the fact that his is another great addition to the Wild Minds Series and really hope there will be more down the line.

Charlotte West is a new to me author and Bad Rules is book #3 in the Wild Minds series. I have not read the other books in the series so I can’t speak to how this one relates to it. I would give it a solid 3.5 stars for many reasons but overwhelmingly it just wasn’t written in a style that appealed to me. But keep reading because it surprised me after all.

Lily Philips-Thomas is a feminist, a very punchy, wordy, quick wit, and opinionated feminist. She lives her life by a set of rules she feels works and should never be broken. She had a brief, strong, passionate love affair with Asher and has worked every day since trying to forget he exists. Too bad he is the brother in law of her BFF and in a very popular band. Lily has absentee parents, a very pregnant bestie that needs her and she has very little desire to get near Asher again. Or is it merely that the pull toward him is just too strong.

Asher Price is a brooding, guitar playing, egotistical, jerk who was also sexy as hell. He was bad news from the beginning but Lily couldn’t stay away. He made her want to throw all her rules out the window. He is a pained soul, which draws Lily to want to help him, but she knows if she gets sucked in again she may not make it back out this time.

Now as for the writing style: beginning chapters were written as a Then/Now scenario that just didn’t flow right for me. I enjoyed getting some of the back story, though it was all from Lily’s POV very little to none to really dive into Asher’s personality and why he is the way he is. I read someone else saying maybe he was purposely written that way to have him blend into the background and not take away from Lily’s story. But I would disagree to that way of writing for the simple fact of in life we usually get both sides (whether true or not) of a story. So learning little to nothing about Asher was a disappointment for me. The glimpses into his personality via texts and letter were a good start but only really scratched the surface of what he was really all about.

The interlude at Addy and War’s house before they set out on tour was a good part of the story, it definitely had me chuckling out loud at a few parts. It showed perfectly the family like atmosphere that (in this case) bands end up forming while touring together. Though the male macho sparring got old pretty quickly. Around Chapter 17 an almost change in writing happened, well at least for me. I don’t know if it was because the Then/Now stuff stopped and it was all in the present but I enjoyed the book much better starting then. I feel like a got a better view of why Lily is the way she is, because honestly the sprouting ways women get the shaft (and not the fun kind) in life was grating on my nerves. Not because I don’t agree, not because it doesn’t happen, it was just too much to read in the context of the rest of the dialog between characters.

While this book didn’t grab me from the start I’m glad I stuck with it. It definitely got better at the end and while I’m honestly not sure I’ll grab another novel to read from this author because of Ms. West’s writing style, I did end up enjoying this novel more than I thought I would. I received an advance copy without any expectation for review. Any and all opinions expressed are solely my own.

Chapter Six

Evidenzia (giallo) - Posizione 785

“You’re a puzzle, Lily, and I don’t think you even know where all your pieces are.”

Evidenzia (giallo) - Posizione 813

I exhaled. He inhaled. His words pierced something inside of me, a secret longing I never knew I had: to love and be loved in return. There weren’t any declarations. It was too early for that. But it was there in the air, a promise that we shared something special. I don’t know what came over me, it was a combination of bitter and sweet, euphoria and sorrow— each emotion so overwhelming it could only manifest in tears.

Evidenzia (giallo) - Posizione 821

All I knew was Asher’s touch, which was like drawing poison from a wound, healing and hurting at the same time.

Evidenzia (giallo) - Posizione 829

“You don’t own me,” I breathed out. He chuckled, and it held just the barest hint of derision. “You’re right, sweetheart.” He licked my neck. “It’s the other way around, isn’t it?

Chapter Twelve

Evidenzia (giallo) - Posizione 1440

“wow, if I wanted to hear from an asshole I would’ve farted.”

Chapter Thirteen

Evidenzia (giallo) - Posizione 1594

I’d never done heroin, but if it were anything like the feeling of removing a bra, I’d be hooked.

Evidenzia (giallo) - Posizione 1697

It was like coming home. All these years traveling, and Asher Price’s arms were the best place I’d ever been.

Chapter Fourteen

Evidenzia (giallo) - Posizione 1767

I loved Asher. I wanted to be exclusive and have his moody babies. Well, maybe not the babies part, but I did love that grumpy son of a bitch. I couldn’t wait to tell him.

Chapter Sixteen

Evidenzia (giallo) - Posizione 2021

Everything that burns too brightly quickly turns to ash

Chapter Nineteen

Evidenzia (giallo) - Posizione 2407

Some people like to say behind every great man is a great woman. But that’s bull hockey. A great man acknowledges the great woman standing right next to him.

Chapter Twenty

Evidenzia (giallo) - Posizione 2513

Being married doesn’t mean a ball and chain. It’s someone constantly having your back. You’ll feel limitless with them, not limited.

Evidenzia (giallo) - Posizione 2519

I belonged to him. Not in a possessive way, but in the way of one soul calling for the other.

Chapter Twenty-Three

Evidenzia (giallo) - Posizione 2841

From the first time we met, you were familiar to me. I wasn’t sure if I was getting to know you or remembering you from a past life. I’ve loved you before and I’ll love you again in the next life (if you believe that cosmic bullshit).

just think, someday you’ll be rocking in this room, your little baby girl in your arms, Warren close by, and you’ll think, ‘Wow! Everyone here has been inside my vagina.’”

I was given an ARC by the author in exchange for an honest review.

I love Charlotte West’s writing. Her books are usually an easy read for me with great dialogue and thoughtful character development. Her books are a must read for me.

In Bad Rules (A Wild Minds Novel), Lily Phillips-Thomas, best friend of Addison Price, our heroine from Book One in the series, has been raised by nannies in lieu of her absentee parents, anthropologists who travel the globe. Lily and Addison at one point in the past followed Wild Minds, a rock band, across Europe, and Lily who was never shown love or tenderness by her parents, began to fall in love. Things didn’t work out, and she and Addison ran. In present day Addison is pregnant by her rock star husband and needs Lily to come with her on tour again, putting her in direct contact with her ex. Although this is a rock star romance there is little of the usual rock band part of the story. I forgot half the time what the hero’s “job” was.

I never once connected with Lily. She was a feminist, and that’s all she was. She was so one dimensional. I got sick of hearing her spout her vitriol about feminism and smashing the patriarchy and blah, blah, blah. It got old. And what was up with the seventeen marriage proposals? Every guy who meets her within ten seconds wants to marry her even though she’s telling him he’s a pig and all men are jerks. We kept hearing how smart she was, yet she was so stupid.

I get that she was abandoned and damaged by her idiotic parents, but why did she spend the entire book chasing after them still seeking their approval? Her mother was a true bitch yet Lily was just like her. Wouldn’t she have bent over backwards to distance herself from that nonsense? I didn’t “get” Lily at all.

I loved that the hero, Asher did, however. He was crazy about her. I spent the entire book feeling sorry for this man. From the video he had playing on repeat on his phone while he slept, to the women he had visiting his hotel room and the reason why, to his telling Lily “I’m into whatever you’re into”. He was so obviously in love with her and destroyed by the fact that she couldn’t love him back that he turned to alcohol. He broke my heart.

I would’ve loved to have had more of him in the story and less of Lily and her constantly interacting with other men. Ash deserved better. This read was worth it for me solely because of the hero.

Bad Rules is another 5 star addition to the Wild Minds series, and is just as addictive as the first two. Charlotte West pulls you in right from the start and you won't be able to stop reading. Asher and Lily take a very difficult journey together and you'll be there with them every step of the way. There's some laugh out loud moments when this couple take swipes at each other, but there's also moments that have you feeling for them both and unsure of what's going to happen. For me, chapter 22 onwards was the part that really moved me and I could see how much this couple had grown together, but also individually. There's nothing I didn't like about this book, and I loved how the author showed us ‘then’ and ‘now’ as this allows us to better understand Asher and Lily who are my favourite couple so far.

“From the first time we met, you were familiar to me. I wasn’t sure if I was getting to know you or remembering you from a past life. I’ve loved you before and I’ll love you again in the next life (if you believe that cosmic bull***t).” - Asher

I know some readers have struggled with Lily’s character due to how opinionated she is, especially when it comes to her beliefs about women's rights, but I could see that this was her way of keeping safe and not allowing herself to rely on others after being let down so much by her parents. She may appear tough on the outside, but really, deep under that outer shell, she's hurting and trying to protect herself. Asher slowly worked his way inside, but having never felt love like that before, he's unsure about what to do and makes a mistake in his attempt to give Lily everything he thinks she wants so she'll stay with him forever. Asher then finds a way to deal with the pain he's feeling, but it becomes his crutch and could derail the future this couple hope to have.

Bad Rules is a book not it be missed. It could be read as a standalone, but I would recommend reading all three books. This amazing series will have you hooked, and, like me, you'll be left eagerly awaiting the next book!

The thing that saved this for me was Asher. Bless him, he tried so very hard to find ways to connect with Lily and give her what he thought she wanted. This is told in alternating time frames - the past and the present.
Well edited.

We first met Asher and Lily in Good Lies. Asher and Warren are twins. Lily and Addy are best friends. Asher and Lily were together, Warren and Addy got married, and then everything imploded at the same time. Throughout the book, we slowly get to a place where we understand what happened in the past as we also see Asher and Lily moving towards a place of understanding. Wild Minds is touring, Addy is pregnant, and Lily has been asked to accompany her. It is quite apparent in the present that Asher is nowhere near over Lily. She, however, tries to put on the facade that she doesn't care about Asher at all. So very far from the truth. Will they ever be able to lay the past to rest? Will they find a way to move forward? Will there be forgiveness? Will there ever be love?

Honestly, I got through this for Asher. I felt for him - trying to be what he thought Lily wanted. He listened, he paid attention, he learned, and he tried to love. I just wanted to hug him. Lily? Lily I wanted to smack. I am all for being your own person, being independent, and standing up for yourself. But, that doesn't mean you should totally ignore and/or belittle another person's perspective, opinions, and feelings. Talking to her was a minefield. It seemed like she was just looking for a fight, seeking discord where none needed to exist. It was apparent that she had issues from having such sorry parents, but she was so self-absorbed that it was hard to feel for her. I know the heart wants who the heart wants, but surely Asher's could want a better person. Hopefully, Lily will grow as a person and leave all the anger and hostility behind. One can only hope - especially for Asher's sake. Enjoy.

Diehard feminist Lily Philips-Thomas has a lot of rules and the cocky guitarist for the band the Wild Minds, Asher Price, is set on breaking every one of them or at the very least bending them. When the two cannot resist their attraction a whole new set of rules come into play and neither of them is prepared to follow them!

For some people love is hard to embrace. They crave it, yet do everything possible to destroy it. If they are lucky they manage to want it more then they want to be without it and Charlotte West gives a wonderful rendition of ultimately wanting love more with Lily and Ash's story. Book three in the Wild Minds series, Bad Rules, is full of miscommunications both internal and external that run amok in this author's one of a kind take on relationships with a rock 'n' roll twist. Ash and Lily were determined to not admit they wanted more than a casual fling even as their actions proved otherwise. Full of Ms. West's angsty charm her well written words spoke volumes even as her characters muttered denials. This author always stays true to her portrayals even in their less flattering moments and you gotta love it. She uses humor as a nice device not to downplay what is going on but to move her story to the next level giving readers and her characters a little bit of breathing room in what otherwise could result in one big hot hormonal mess. Lily and Ash while seemingly incompatible yet complimented each other as characters. Theirs was a hot and stubborn romance full of extremes. Bad Rules continues this series strong trajectory of great writing and irresistible stories thanks to the wild mind of Charlotte West!

Lily and Asher are quite a pair. They have an interesting history together and it’s understandable that they don’t want to be around each other. So when Lily’s best friend convinces her to join Asher’s band on tour you know you can expect fireworks to happen. Neither one of them are prepared to own up to the feelings still between them so the band decides to take drastic measures to stop the bickering; if they get some entertainment along the way then oh well!

This was my first Charlotte West read – and let’s just say I am in love! I am so excited that this author wrote Lily’s character the way she did (and the brief glimpse we get of Addy and Daisy from book 1 & 2 are similar); the heroine of this story is a very strong female character. She is independent and assertive but also has her moments of softness and femininity; too often in today’s society are feminists painted as these harsh women but this character puts a positive spin back in the word. She is the type of character little girls will want to be like. And her relationship with Asher is different than what you typically read in a romance book; like I said I loved this book!

This is the 3rd book in this series but i think all can be read as standalone (I started with book 3 but have book 1 and 2 on my kindle to read next!); you’ll get a hands to reconnect with characters from her previous books as well as see a different view of the interactions. It’s not too long, but the pacing is also fast enough that it feels like a lot is happening in the book. I really enjoyed the flashbacks to show all the reasons why they interact as they do today.

**5 Stars - I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader copy of this book.

Lily doesn't believe in relationships, much less marriage, so she lives by some hard rules. No man has ever gotten close enough to her for her to break those rules, until Asher. He wants Lily badly, but she keeps putting the distance between them, so they barely got anything off the ground before it was over. Now Lily's best friend is begging her to join them (Asher's band) on tour, and she's tried everything to get out of it, but finally she just gives in, though she will be in close quarters with Asher. And that's all that I'm giving away. I have to say that it's refreshing that it's the heroine, Lily, who is afraid of commitment, and not the bad boy rocker, Asher. He's going through some tough times though, and all the emotional baggage that they have is coming to the surface. That's not to say that they didn't have serious chemistry, because it didn't take long before it exploded to hot sexy times that set anything they are near on fire. And the cast of secondaries that make up the band, and Lily's bestie, definitely added a hysterically funny aspect to the emotional story. Plus, there were a couple of twists to get the f-bombs dropping, which also played into the angsty drama which came off realistically painful in many instances. I really enjoy Charlotte West's talented writing style so much, and hope that there are at least 2 more books in this series! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I loved this book out of the series the most! I’m not sure what it was, but I just absolutely fell in love with the whole band during this book. It made me love the first two books that much more. If you haven’t read the first two books in this series, I would definitely start there. The author takes the time to weave the all of characters into this special friendship that is more like a family. We get to know everyone’s personality, and it was just amazing.
Lily was one of a kind. She had me holding my sides laughing out loud, and am pretty sure she’s every young woman’s spirit animal. She’s fighting against her moral compass denying herself to depend on a man-she’s fighting against herself to fall in love, and she’s fighting with a super hot alpha rockstar so hiliariously genuine throughout their relationship.
It does switch point of views, which I definitely was a huge fan of. I loved seeing both Lily and Asher’s POV and thoughts on what could have been/what went wrong the first time.
I would definitely add this rockstar romance series to your summer reading list-you won’t be disappointed! - By Victoria

3.5/4 stars.

By the end of Bad Rules I was completely in love with the story and characters. Lily is a fantastic written heroine with a lot of depth. I would have loved to know more about Ash, who, for the most part felt more like a secondary character than the hero of the story. Which brings me to this conclusion:

Lily is a feminist. West wrote her so convincingly that she's never preachy, except when it's important to her characterization. She's matter of fact with her feminism, sometimes a bit over the top, but it's who she is. As she matures, her beliefs mature with her, which was wonderful to see. So, based on who Lily is, I wonder if Ash's backseat in this story wasn't intentional. Did Lily need a full-blown hero? Not really, she needed to fall in love with herself and come to terms with her parents and how she was raised. Once she does this, Ash goes through his own awakening, which makes for a convincing HEA for these two characters.

A must read! This series was fantastic and it was all from the females point of view.
This is Lily's story with Asher who you can meet in Hard Lessons and Bad Lies. These two met and started a love affair with rules and those rules were bent a bit and then the the love affair takes a turn. There is pent up energy from these two and it is a roller coaster of a ride to read about. Lily is a strong feminist and Asher is a stubborn rock star, but they say opposites attract and you're not whole till you find your other half. Oh and the age old saying...if you love something set it free if it returns it was meant to be can also be said about Lily and Asher but in a different way, just read it'll make sense.
Charlotte you have fun and loving characters that kept me entertained and anxious. Once I started I couldn't put Lily and Asher down. Your writing flows with everything and the heart you put into your characters.
5/5 stars and one of my favorite series for the year.

Okay so I really disliked the first book in the series but I enjoyed this one much more. I liked Ash and didn’t have to many complaints with him. I did however think his “personal issue” ( I don’t want to spoil it) could have been focused on a little more than it was since it isn’t a topic that should be mentioned lightly and dealt with quickly. I thought Lily was a breath of fresh air however I didn’t love how opposed she was to relationships. I enjoyed the couples chemistry and sexy times. It’s 3 stars for me because I felt how the book focused a fair amount on the past. I don’t often enjoy when books have a lot of the Past and Present back and forth thrown in. Some, definitely, but a lot, no not so much. I did skim some of the book and I’m not too sure why. I think I may need a break from romances since I seem to be skipping a lot in the books I’ve been reading and not giving them the chances they deserve. I did love Lix and his crazy ways and I hope he gets his own book. I don’t want it to be a second chance romance though. That’s been done let’s move forward.
