When Gerri’s VampLycan stepfather died, her mother moved them far from his clan. As a teen, it was the most devastating day of her life, because it took Gerri away from Wen, the boy she’d loved since childhood. Fifteen years later, that boy has become a gorgeous man straight out of her wildest fantasies—and when he requests to meet her, Gerri suspects just seeing him will set her up for heartbreak all over again.

The petite blonde he fell for as a young VampLycan is still beautiful—and all human. Though Gerri’s always been the one he longs to be with, Wen can’t mate her. After the death of his brother, Wen was forced to assume the duties of firstborn, which include mating another VampLycan. But he needs a human to pull off his current mission for his clan, hunting a rogue Vampire in a human city. And he’ll take any stolen moments with Gerri he can get.

As the danger surrounding the mission mounts, so does their passion, until it’s equally perilous. It will take everything in him to keep Wen from claiming his mate…because doing so could mean her death.

I had a rather short area here telling a little about me but then I had more than a few people ask me to expand it so... here goes. LOL. I'm a full time home 'supervisor' which is a nice word for saying I'm a housewife. I'm married happily, I met my dream guy 20 years ago, and we have 4 children. I live in Southern California and I can't function without iced coffee. I believe in romance, I've always been a daydreamer, and I'm a HUGE fan of books, always have been.

No, I didn't know that I always wanted to write. I inhaled books as a child. I read entire series (Pippi Longstocking, Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys, Trixie Beldon, The Borrowers, etc) in a matter of days at a time. By the time I was nine years old I had an adult library card where I visited often. I moved on to John Saul, Stephen King, Richard Laymon, Agatha Christie, and then found romance. I was hooked. I wrote poetry in my teens and then moved on to short stories. My first book was started after I read a real bomb of a book that ticked me off with really horrible characters and a plot that was shabby at best and I thought... I could do better. LOL.

I wrote my first book which will probably never see the light of day in the early 90's. I wrote a series of a few books from it. I'm a series fan! I kept writing for fun, wrote MANY books and then in 2009 I decided to try to get published. I wrote my first Sci Fi romance and Ral's Woman came to be. I submitted it and with a little tweaking, Ellorascave sent me an acceptance letter. It was kind of a 'Cinderella' experience for me. It's been a terrific ride so far and I'm really happy that I finally had the time to commit to writing full time. It's a dream come true.

VambLycan Wen loved human Gerri since they were children, but then Gerri left with her mother and Wen broke Gerri's heart.
Then for 15 years he never tried to approach Gerri (although he had someone reporting to him about his childhood love) and he was living his life without any problems having casual sex and being an enforcer. His parents tried to find a mate for him (which I suppose it is normal for VampLycan parents who have lost one of their kids and they are scared that their other kid will end up alone in his life without a mate and children).
Then, suddenly after 15 years, Wen decides to visit Gerri, puts her in a tremendous danger just by visiting her and demands her to follow him in a life threatening mission - just because he misses her.
I DID NOT LIKE WEN!

Gerri on the other hand has been in love with Wen since forever, 15 years apart did not help. But she still had plenty of boyfriends and she tried to forget him. But when he visits, she nags a bit and she still has sex with him. And basically his wonderful sex appeal makes her following him. After that, she discovers that there are girlfriends around that he has not broken up with because their relationship is "casual sex", she understands that he is a mummy's boy and his mum does not want a human for her boy (thus what they have,it will be finishing soon) and she also realises that the mission (that Wen stupidly decided that he has to have Gerri with him) will possibly make her a dead woman soon (best case scenario) or a mindless vampire zombie (worst case scenario).
Still she stays with him without feeling used.
I DID NOT LIKE GERRI!

So, concluding I was a bit dissatisfied with this book.
The adventure was good, but the main characters were unlikable.

Ugh. I didn't like this book at all. In fact, lately I am not feeling Laurann Dohner's new series one bit.

I almost didn't finish this book. I am overtaxed of reading the same book over and over again. The world building in VLG has gotten tedios and redundant. The fantasy behind the plot is unoriginal and static. Thereupon, everything else is also repetitive, same romance, same problems, same plot, same characters, same dialogues. Furthermore, is it me?, or are these books getting more sexist every single time? I am tired of reading a series where all the females beside the heroins are portrayed as bitches, as irrational, as selfish, bad tempered and mean. Stories, where the main female has no good friends and family or even an actual life of her own, so she drops everything in a second for the male since she had nothing important before him. So yeah, leaving your entire life behind, easy, after all it was worthless. What kind of message is that? It is getting distasteful.
To make matters worse, in this particular book, the male protagonist is such a coward, that is incredibly hard to even want to root for the romance. To top it all out, he doesn't even grow out of that cowardice by the end, but instead he has the solution handed to him by other people so he can finally do what he wanted to without too much exertion. Ugh, unbelievable!

I loved the New Species series, I miss that style, those characters and romances. Now, I don't know where that Laurann Dohner went, she is definitely not in here. So disappointing.

VLG #1: Drantos - 3 stars.
VLG #2: Kraven - 3 stars.
VLG #3: Lorn - 2.5 stars.
VLG #4: Veso - 2 stars.
VLG #5: Lavos - 1.5 stars.
VLG #6: Wen - 1 star.

Yes, I liked it. But...

I wanted so much to smack Wen!!!

He involves Gerri in a dengerous mission, convince her that it's the best thing to do even if she's reclutant. She knows that he's pulling her on a almost suicidal mission, but she also know that as soon as Wen appeared on her doorstep he's already endangered! And still he insists! And he !!! And, obviously it's not very difficult because she's Always been in love with him..

But, when the situation gets hot, he wants her away.

Stupid idiot, she told you and told you that you'll be putting her in danger, but did you listened? Did you???

She's much, much better than him ! She's level headed and intelligent and give Wen good adivises and suggestions and also, when necessary, never obey his order quickly and without question.

Wen has another flaw: his submissivness to his parents. It is so exasperating to see a grown man blindly obeying everything his parents order! They said that he's not to mate a human and he obeys; they bring women in his cabin and throw them on him and he doesn't do anything else but ask the women to leave... He knows that they'll hate (and try to kill!!!) Gerri and therefore he just let her go away and live a shit life outside the clan...

All this is so NOT good!!!!

It takes the alpha's direct interference with his parents for him to be able to mate Gerri!!!! How sad...

So, for Gerri this book deserves 4 star, but for Wen only 2, therefore 3 stars!

VampLycan undercover!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: ❤️💙💜💚
Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙
World building: 🌏🌍🌏🌎🌍
Character development: 😠☺️😋😍
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Solo Narration

The heroine: Gerri - she is a human, but she grew up in a clan of VampLycans. After her stepfather died, she had to move away. As a kid, she worshiped a VampLycan named Wen and was sorry to have to leave him behind when she moved. Her mother didn’t like being human and got together with a group of Lycans, and Gerri didn’t like their lifestyle so she now lives alone.

The Hero: Wen - he is an enforcer for a VampLycan clan and is being sent into some cities in the lower 48 states on an undercover mission to infiltrate a Vampire master’s den who wants to start a war between Vampires and VampLycans. It is a dangerous mission and he might be taken hostage and tortured but is sure that he will be able to do what he set out to do and get information on the Vampire master.

The Story: Wen contacted Gerri and asked to meet her in Reno, Nevada where she lives. She didn’t want to since it hurt to see him. He tells her he is tracking a ghoul maker. A master vampire who makes soldier vampires who heal faster than regular vampires and their bodies and minds rot because they can’t eat enough blood to keep up. The master is also spreading lies about VampLycans to other Vampires to start a war.

Wen needs Gerri to help him. He is going to give the Vampires the impression that he is leaving his clan and going against them by mating a human. This is in hopes of going undercover so he can kill the Vampire master. He has to convince the Vampires that they are lovers. I have always love the fake relationship trope, and this was a fun twist on that.

I like this series, because the heroine’s are all strong and fierce. They aren’t whiner’s or easily scared. Gerri was feisty and capable from the start. She knows about the paranormal and yet she lived alone in a city and is able to protect herself. She even killed a rogue Vampire that came after her.

This book is told in multiple points of view via solo narration and was narrated by Savannah Richards. This is book number six for me in five days. I am loving the stories and the narration is great, despite the fact that I usually don’t like solo narration. I picked up a bunch more of Laurann Dohner audiobooks since I have been liking this series so much.

Theses two both got on my nerves. Both super whiny in different ways. This series seems to be hit or miss for me. This one was a miss, IMO. Happy reading.

HELL YES!!!!!!!!! I loved this book I love this series… I want MORE!!
It is no secret I love Laurann’s unique way with romance.  And Wen is no exception. I loved Gerri she was so Gerri! Ha I can’t explain her she is strong of mine and body and she knows Wen back in her life would break her heart.

I love that she put up a fight and made him see her for who she was and even though he messes up he fixes it. I loved his clan leader; he really put it all together for me. I loved that she had someone in her corner, she really needed that.

Seriously if you’re a paranormal fan you don’t want to miss out on Laurann Dohner’s work because she is fabulous, and her narrators are icing on the cakes. I swear I could listen over and over to her books and never get bored.

*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*

I just got off of a wonderful re-read of New Species. I love that series and I can't tell you how many times I have read some of those books, they are ones I will always go back to. After finishing them I had a choice between this one or another book from an author I love and I figured hey your on a LD kick why stop now so I dug right in. I love Lauran Dohner and not just the NS books I love all her books so reading this one was a no brainer plus I was looking forward to it.

Now that I'm finished I'm torn. I started this book and didn't want to put it down but I had things to do so I had to stop reading relatively soon. The second I had time I picked this book up and here I am. I didn't stop till I finished it in the early morning. I loved so much about this book but there were things I wanted to scream about. Wren for one, and I literally while reading started highlighting sections of this book and taking notes because I was getting so frustrated.

Did I hate Wren no but man he knows how to make one bad decision after another after another after another(you get the picture) so my review is going to have a little bit of a rant and be different. BUT again I didn't hate this book Did I want to hit Wren upside his head? Yeah that a big fat yes. So here goes I get it Wren and Gerri liked each other for years but she had to leave and they both "lived " their lives but Wren I(or Gerri) don't need to hear about all the woman you have had sex with, why would any man ever ever think thats something a woman who loves you and has always loved you wants to hear. And you won't come up with an excuse making that a good idea and never ever bring up one specific woman(Gah I hated Sherry) and try to make it ok would he want Gerri to talk about a man she slept with who has feeling for her. No(I hate when authors do this and I hate reading it) honestly after that Wren came off as very cold to me. Yes am I over dramatic yes I am and I know that and I'm ok with that.

Wren is an enforcer, big strong bad man, why is mommy and daddy controlling him, why is what they say more important than the woman you love, it makes the man seem weak and sad(sorry I did say I'm ranting here). I hate when I read this, especially when the man is an alpha possessive guy I just never like this storyline or feel like it fits with a man like Wren. And I'm going to say this now his parents are horrible.

For Gerri why if a man does all this would you not place some blame on him yes his parent are wrong but if he's a grown man it's on him I don't like when heroines won't put some (all ) that on the hero. I also felt like the heroine (Gerri) was the one giving and compromising and bending in this book and doing all the work because Wren "couldn't" I don't like that, the hero should be the hero and not forced into it. I also felt at times like Gerri was just willing to take scraps and that made me sad she should have known she was worth more but she was willing to accept whatever he would give her. It also seemed like everyone in the clan (besides his parents) had to convince him to be with Gerri sorry if you need that much convincing you don't deserve her she should be it period no one else and if your parents don't like it too bad.

And lastly Gerri made it WAY too easy for Wren after all he put her through he needed to grovel and work for it and I think he got off way too easy all around. Now I know this is a rant and some I'm sure of it is because I'm tired since I couldn't put this book down. But I couldn't put this book down. I didn't hate it either I know it seems like I did or should from all I said but I didn't. A lot was great including the storyline (and continuation of the storyline) the writing and lets be honest its Laurann Dohner and if she writes it I will read it. I love her and this series. Maybe it's coming off of NS anything after that has huge shoes to fill or who knows maybe I'm in my feelings too much right now but again(I know I said this ) I din't hate it I liked it but I wish it had been more. Will my feelings change after a few hours of sleep maybe, I wouldn't be surprised. And I hope my review does;t put anyone off because I am glad I read it and I will be reading the next book, and maybe the second time around I will have a different perspective.

DNF @ 25%

I don't know why but I really don't like it when the hero tells the heroine to shut up.

Ok, that was completely taken out of context but I just couldn't let go and therefore this was a DNF for me.

Fantastic book. Wen and Gerri are a fun couple. Gerri bravery match Wen strength and their sex appeal is scorching hot. Having Trayis as clan leader is outstanding with his matchmaking. There are so many more amazing characters Mitch and his family, Yern and his brother Tymber prove to be great friends. Can't wait for more books in this series!!!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

3 stars.

Human heroine Gerri left Vamplycan clan after stepfather died. Mum took up with another lycan clan that considers females there to be shared by all the males and so she left and has been surviving on her own for years.

Hero Wen is trying to appease his parents and turns himself into a carbon copy of his dead older brother. Parents keep pushing females at him to mate.

I sympathise with their situations but I did find Wen a bit callous about taking Gerri into a dangerous undercover assignment by indicating she was the only female human he knows when that wasn't true, especially since he's been having a sexual relationship with their clan's human lawyer for years whilst on assignments.

Not my favorite installment...I'm still desperately waiting for more New Species books!

I found Wen too controlled by what his parents wanted. Be a man, stand up to them and take your mate.

The dialogue was also quite stilted (even more than usual).

A mix of races, an impossible love.

Gerri's stepfather was a vamplycan, while her mother was human.
When her father died, her mother chose to leave, and from there all Gerri's life changed.
But one thing inside her would not die: her crush for Wen.

Wen always liked Gerri, but since he was the 1st son, he had an obligation to marry a vamplycan, someone strong within the race, and Gerri, as a human, was totally disqualified.

Years later, Gerri also left her mother because this one united to a werewolf, and by their laws, they share the females. Gerri didn't agree with that and left again.

When Wen needs Gerri's human help to hunt down a ghoul maker - the master vampire who's creating an army of soldiers - she is reluctant to help him because once they get together, she would be considered his partner, and then with his departure, everyone would think she was abandoned, making her easy prey for others.

However, he manages to convince her, and this closeness makes them both give in the attraction they have always felt.
While hunting the ghoul, Wen learns the whole story of Gerri after she left his clan, and he wants her more than ever.
Begins a fight of opposing wills, but Wen ends up prevailing.
The difficult thing now would be to convince his father that it was worth bleeding for that human.

Finally coming home

I just finished this book, and I’m ready to read it again. The emotions the author has been able to capture between the pages are truly amazing. You can feel the longing and passion between the two characters and all of the excitement as they go on their mission to find the enemy and make their way to their HEA. I really enjoyed how she created the dialogue between the characters and the details she put into the storyline. I am looking forward to the next book.

At first, I really didn't enjoy this series. The first book was seriously better than the second, but it still needed some work. The last few books, while not up to the caliber of the New Species series, are engaging and entertaining enough that I want to know what happens and I keep reading. Which is excellent. This had was a sweet, steamy romance, and it was a fun read, if a bit forgettable after you finish. But if you want to be entertained, and have read the previous books, then you won't be disappointed with this one.

So yeah, kinda agree with others that Wen isn't my fave H in the series.

Gerri grew up in the same pack as Wen, yet she is human. Her mother married/mated into the pack when she was very little. She and Wen were quite close as kids but his parents hate her 'humaness'.
His parents are racist a-holes.
But Wen is their second son and not their favourite. So he's got that complex kids like that get where they think if they are keeners for the parents who don't appreciate them, then the parents will learn to love him. Trouble is, he can never be his older brother (who died) and he really shouldn't want to be.

So Gerri left the clan-pack-whatever when she was 15 with her mother and Wen made sure to cut their ties because of his parents. Over a decade later, he shows up on her doorstep asking for her help in catching 'Horton', the evil vampire (from the previous book).

I liked Gerri's character except that she was too willing to accept Wen's excuses for being a spineless momma's boy...
In addition to my disappointment in Wen, I found the author hashed and rehashed his reasoning for his not choosing her, tiresome and repetitious.
AND LD really upped the level of descriptive violence in this one.

safety is meh.

This was the worst book in the VLG series so far. Both Wen and Gerri were so annoying! Wen was unlike any other Vamp-Lycans, he seemed selfish, cowardly and full of excuses. Gerri was impressive in the first quarter of the book but then took a 180 and turned into someone weak and pathetic, it just didn't make sense at all. She was basically begging him for it by the end of the book, just ewww!

Spoiler Alert ...
And don't get me started on the fact that Wen basically forced Gerri to go with him on this dangerous mission after she repeatedly told him she didn't want to go and that it would hurt her to spend time with him and then see him go. Aren't VLs supposed to never put their mates (mate-to-be) in danger, this guy basically drags her into the worst of it.

In summary, this book was a big fail for me and I wish I had just skipped it !

I know we all have a past and no one is perfect, but somehow in this book I got all cortisol-ed on several occasions because of our hero's behavior, so that's a 3.4 stars…
Now Gerri and Sherry are similar, it's true, but grrrrr…
And although HEA happend still…. Grrrr….
The whole feeling of this book is kind of more dark to me, what with her mother, the way things work in other pckes… But it's probably more similar to reality than fantasies, but still…
All in all, of the whole series, I like this on the least….
