Established 3 of Jake, Ally, and Max and I honestly enjoyed each character! Jake struggles to believe he is worthy of them. Ally and Max navigate and show Jake they are his true family.
For most of this book, I wasn’t sure about how I felt about any of the three main characters. Bound to Them follows an established BDSM menage a trois/MMF relationship. Max, Jake, and Ally are in a committed relationship. Both Max and Jake have military pasts. While Jake and Ally run their family farm, Max is a college professor who commutes from campus to their farm. Usually I like these types of books because the relationship is firmly engrained throughout the story. However, the foundation of the couples’ relationship is shaken by the machinations of Jake’s family. His family is in politics and apparently the best way to throw a reporter off the trail of his governor brother’s affair is to set the reporter on Jake’s relationship. I’m still unsure of how a menage a trois relationship is less scandalous than a married politician having an affair but I went with it for the sake of the plot. The pressure on Jake from his family drama drove a hole into his relationship with Ally and Max. Max is the Dom to both Jake and Ally in the relationship while Jake also tops Ally. The success of their relationship is solely based on honesty, which is even more important in BSDM and MMF relationships. By hiding his family drama, albeit to protect Max and Ally, Jake destroys the threats of trust in their marriage. My biggest problem with this book is the classic “so much of the plot would be solved by simple communication.” While I understand it is people natural instinct to shut down and deal with problems themselves, Jake is in relationships in which honesty and trust is paramount. That lack of honesty was my main issue with the book.
Jake finally has the life he wants with both a husband and a wife. But when his past comes roaring into town will Jake lose it all? This is my first time reading Peyton Brittany Clark and I must say Bound to Them was a good first choice. Jake has left his powerful family behind and is living a simple one with Max and Ally. But when trouble enters his world Jake forgets all the lessons learned within his new family. I really enjoyed meeting Max, Jake and Ally. Jake is surrounded by love. Jake has a Dom and a Sub but struggles to believe he is worthy. I loved that Ms. Clarke gave us a story that was clear. You could see the pitfalls as Jake met each one but you so wanted him to find his way back to Max and Ally. And Max and Ally knew something was wrong but getting Jake to spill his guts was a lesson in patience. I enjoyed the twists and turns Ms. Clarke gave us as Jake navigated his way home. And I am looking forward to reading more from Ms. Clarke in the future.
This BDSM MMF story causes me to have some reservations. BDSM should be honest & open as well as safe sane & consensual. Jake’s secrecy & lies broke the trust he had with his wife and husband. I found it difficult to believe that a BDSM MMF marriage was such a shocking lifestyle that a reporter would find this a better story than a “family values” politician who cannot keep it in his pants...but I suspended my disbelief for the sake of enjoying the story. However with these quibbles set aside, I enjoyed the characters and the story. I really liked Max and his take no prisoners way of protecting his submissives. Overall this was a sexy fun read with HEA for the triad.
