Wrong Question, Bree-Ann Carver Suspense Blog, Bk1by Edita A. Petrick Review When did blogging become so dangerous????

When she confronts him, she expects his denial but not his offer to help.
What did I like? Caution this is a cliffhanger! This started out a little slow but for what it lacked, in the beginning, the ending hits with force. For the first book of the series, there will be growing to be done but this has all the bones for a great series.
What will you like? Mystery, Murder and double murders, Action, Slight romance and Undoubtingly interesting! The storyline concept is amazing and as it grows with the double mystery it will pull you into the last page. The main character becomes a fighting machine and when she takes off so does the storyline. The author has several other series and I have not read all of them, but she has been added to my TBR author list. I look forward to the next book in the series. I received this from the author for an honest review with no other compensation.
Bree-Ann recently graduated from Columbia’s Graduate School of Journalism, and won a two year internship with the New York Times. Imagine her surprise when she is sent to a satellite office in what she calls nowhere land, Idaho. Her assignment is to write a weekly story about a fictitious murder. As soon as she posts her first story, she draws criticism from her one and only follower. She didn’t mind the criticism as much as the dark undertone it presented. Later she starts getting pictures and sounds, along with evil messages directly on her computer. Then her car is stolen and wrecked by whomever is taunting her. Now knowing how close the culprit is, it leaves her not knowing who to trust.
I had mixed feelings about this story. While the plot was interesting, I thought the characters were lacking. With all that was going on with Bree-Ann, it didn’t make sense that she would keep it a secret. Also, I didn’t think the true murders made sense even when the possibilities were deduced. As far as the writing style, it felt stinted, and didn’t flow smoothly. I did like the story and felt it had potential, just needed to be pulled together more.
Bree-Ann was one of the finalists in a prestigious award competition run by the New York Times. She has been awarded an internship with the paper – but NOT in New York. She and all the other finalists have been shipped out to satellite offices and she has ended up in Idaho. Her new job is to get one million subscribers to her blog before her internship ends. She put forward the idea of writing a blog about fictional murders, but is finding out that it isn’t as easy as she thought.
It seems one of her first subscribers has a lot more criticism of her first post and has suggestions they want her to include in her future post. She suggests they unsubscribe if they don’t like her work, but they don’t take the hint. They take over her and her colleague’s desktops and even her laptop. It seems this is someone, probably a seasoned criminal, who she should have reported as soon as she realised he had hacked their computers, but she has left it too late to be believed, or so she thinks.
The murder scenarios they come up with seem far too real, with the police having closed them as accidents. She tries to look up some of the scenarios they suggest, to find out if there is any trace in the news and that’s where the story get intriguing. If she uses their suggested scenarios then the police will be questioning her, but if she doesn’t the cyber-criminal has told her – there will be consequences!
The actions ramps up as Bree-Ann struggles to do what her job requires, especially as deadlines get closer and closer. Consequences for her actions and details of real life crime are closing in and the location of the office in a portakabin near the woods in a remote small town is more suggestive of certain horror movies and books. Why would you stay there after dark on your own? Especially after the threats seem to become more real by the day.
This quite a short book from this author and can be read easily in a short time. It covers the some aspects of a horror tale in the suspense and events that occur to the small group of interns in their remote office, as well as those of a good mystery. You will try to work out who could possibly be behind all the things that are happening to Bree-Ann and the murder scenarios she and the subscriber come up with. But you will probably be wrong about who is behind all of this and why. A good little story that keeps you reading to find out what happens.
I received an ARC copy of this book from Hidden Gems and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
3* ARC Review – Good premise but just Part One This is the story of Bree-Ann Carver who has received a prestige position with the New York Times, but has been sent to a strange, experimental town in Idaho. She lives there with several other interns on similar assignments. She begins writing a blog about murder and finds it attracts some questionable followers whose comments start to make Bree-Ann question where their materials are coming from. We are also introduced to her co-workers and Ben, who runs a bar nearby. The premise of the story is interesting and would have drawn me in more, except I found Bree-Ann an unlikeable character. First, she complains constantly about the “bait and switch” of working for the New York Times but being in Idaho. This is her first real job and she does not seem to have any prior experience in writing or anything. I felt she was lazy and not creative at all. It seems that everyone else is helping her complete her work. Then her addiction to cold medicine, just added to her inability to do anything on her own. I received this ARC through Hidden Gems in exchange for my review. I have been a fan of this author in the past so I think I will stick to her police procedural stories going forward.
Bree-Ann is a Nyquil addict working in a barn in small town Idaho as an intern with the NYT, writing a weekly blog. A murder blog. A fictional murder blog. However, one subscriber—her only one to start—brings follower to a whole new level. One that makes Bree defensive, confused, and then fearful.
Enter Ben who may or may not be trusted for reasons you’ll have to read about.
Then, things take a deadly turn. A real one.
While I usually don’t like cliffhangers, I’m eager to see where the story goes. The fictitious murder options were entertaining as multiple viewpoints came into play. Bree has personal and professional challenges to overcome that I can see flowing through the series. Tie all that together and this starts off a series strong.
Bree-Ann Carver is an addict of Nyquil. She earns on internship with The New York Times. Dream come true!....not so fast. She is then sent to some small town in Idaho with the other interns. They are there for two years. Bree-Ann decides to do her blog on murder. She writes a murder story one week then the next week she blogs the answer. All is fun and games until it she gets a response from someone who wants her story to be more realistic. That's where things get really strange and her life ends up in danger. Oh this is Book 1, so yes it is a cliff-hanger, which I do not like! That's why it's only four stars instead of five. I voluntarily reviewed this book with a free copy from Hidden Gems.
Bree-Ann has just been given an amazing internship with the New York Times, only it's not what it was made to seem. Now she is stuck in their "remote" location in Idaho. She has been bitter ever since. Now, after her first blog has been posted, she has her first subscriber and they are trying to get her to do write about murders that are ruled as accidental. But specific cases. When things don't go the way he wants, things start to happen and increasingly worse. Will she fold under the pressure, will she figure out who it is, or will she gives up on her goals. I voluntarily read a ARC of this book for my honest review
Bree-Ann Carver, an intern at the New York Times writes a fictional murder blog, posing a scenario and a solution the next week. Part of her contract is that she lives in Idaho for two years in a trailer. When her first subscriber starts to send her suggestions, which turns into real cases ruled as accidents, the intrigue starts but when this subscriber starts to send suggestions as other people, hack her computer, private chat room and then threatens her to do his bidding it turns down right deadly. I really enjoyed the book and look forward to answers.
Wow. I was finished with this first book in the Bree-Ann Carver series by Edita Petrick before I knew it. From opening troubles to semi-final conclusion it was a battle of mental wills between Bree-Ann and her online tormentor. The pace of the story was simply outstanding as blog by blog it continued to pull the reader into the story, making them start wondering what was real and what wasn't. Definitely looking forward to adding book #2 to my TBR. This is a voluntary review of an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from Hidden Gems Books.
First book I have read from this author. Something different than what I normally read. Crime thriller involving social media, blogging and cyber terrorism. I have to say this was written well and covered the subject with great interest. It was a good book and does get you interested in the subject. If you like a good thriller this would be a great book to read.
Edita’s story telling is concise and straightforward. I’ve stepped out of my usual genre to try something different. I’m intrigued to see how this progresses in the next volume.
I received a free copy of this book to review. OMG I LOVED THIS BOOK!!! I read it all in one setting! It is the first in a series that I intend to look for and read!!! Great twists and turns!!!
